  1. This week:
Will probably look at Murdock (WCE) this week as I already anticipate at least a couple of moves next week.

    Next week:
    Windsor & Blakiston > Houston & Cook.

  2. Is Luke Jackson legit?
What was his role? Didn’t get to see the Freo game, I was worry about him sharing ruck load but didn’t seem to matter

    • Each quarter Darcy would start as ruck with Jackson in the guts. Darcy would go off after about 5-6 mins and have a rest and Jackson would then stay in the guts but do the ruck work and Reid or Young would be the other mid. Jackson would go off about 15 min mark and Darcy come back on to ruck for about 5 mins and then jackson would swap with Darcy as ruck for last 10 mins.

Neither Darcy of Jackson went forward much, that was usually Young.

      • Rankine is going to take someone’s place and it won’t be Neal-Bullen, Keays, Ah Chee or the talls. Cook played well but has been in and out before, Pedlar could be the one, or Toby Murray might be unlucky.

Just saying, watch for the teams.

Cook is going nowhere, but don’t expect scores like that every week.

  6. Blakiston is one I have wrong for sure, price to score potential is all wrong as Derek flagged. I don’t have Grilj and am running an all rookie def + Rozee so I’m comfortable doing that. Errol depends on how long he is out for. My options seem to be Serong or Dawson. Phillipou would have been good except a) Ross decided he is the tagger, and b) he’s made of glass. There will be a rookie I can get on for him. Running Three premium rucks(Jackson,English and flex Gawn ) so Mcandrew is pure bench gen.I didn’t want to trade for weeks this year so I’m disappointed but it is what it is I guess….

    • Blakiston started really well, especially in the center ball ups. but against the two rucks of Hawthorn he got tired and in the end he was seriously under-sized. It was always going to be a struggle against the ‘big boys’.

Talking of Big Boys, after this week where he has Port, it is followed by Xerri (nth), English/Darcy (dogs), Gawn (mel), Witts (suns) and Cameron (col).

he needs to score at 74 to be value, round 1 of 62 wasn’t good

I won’t be surprised to see him get some help from Vigo Visentini

        • I’ve got the same dilemma, i also really want to go down to Grlj (found the cash to upgrade him to Parish just before lockout). This gives me the cash to get Toby Murray up to Cook.

I do think Blakiston will bounce back with an 80+ this week, but he seems like a 80 guy and I don’t think that is good enough. Grlj looked better and could’ve easily finished with 90+.

I think I’ll be pulling the trigger.

Might even use a boost as well and go Walsh to Serong.

          • Probably matches Grilj for scoring , but is 115k dearer. It does mean that points wise you can put out other fires before dealing with this one next week. Which is what I have chosen to do.

              • I need the money to put out my only real fire which is Murray over Cook, so I think I’ll have to take the risk and go early on Blakiston > Grlj. It’s definitely a fair call to wait and see if you have some money in the bank to put out your fires.

In terms of Walsh to Serong – the extra game, cash generation and 10-15 points per week is worth it I think. I’ve also got 3 other MIDs with the bye this week so it would be nice to have a 23rd player (who should be 110+) on the field.

These are the two most important weeks for trades in my opinion, and I’ve got all the other good rookies so happy to fix a fallen premium when i can.

He was getting tagged at times and still managed 30 touches, 8 clearances, 13 contested possessions and 6 inside 50s. In a loss as well.

He was also in my team pretty much all pre season, I thought Walsh would outscore him given the far easier fixture and I need to correct that mistake.

  12. I’m wavering on McCarthy. Even though he’s playing mid WCE might struggle to get any decent points and he’s priced as a keeper. There’s cash to be made with Fonti and seems to have reasonable scoring potential

TU: Save the trade, stick with McCarthy, he’s a mid and he’s only had 1 week
TD: Go with Fonti, might make decent coin early season and should score reasonably well

Scores definitely boosted by 3 and then 2 goals though – am I crazy?

  20. Is it stupid to go Gulden > Bruhn this week, even though he has the bye as well? I think Bruhn is a must have after watching him vs Freo.

Preemptively gives me $300k+ to use on fixing players later that we will know more about after round 2 (ie Oliver, Young, missed rookies) without burning a boost.

Just dirty i did not start Bruhn, as i wanted another look at him after his poor defensive effort in opening round.

    TU: L. Jackson
    TD: C. Serong

I liked the look of them both over the weekend, however I already started English in the ruck and I think Gawn will end up R1 and a must by seasons end. Which makes me think if I bring in Jackson, I am committing to running 3 rucks (flex) unless he gains mid status. Does anyone know the likelihood of this if his current role were to continue?

  22. I would hold Windsor, played with a cork (late report) and butchered at least 10 pts. and if he kicks that second goal he score 90. I started him, give me a 80+ average until his bye round. Also throw Bruhn into the mix for DPP after round six, join him up with Budarick and you have a solid D4-D6 until the midseason bye rounds.

    Blakiston > Grlj
    Murray > Cook
    Walsh > Serong

Serong gets his own footy whereas Walsh is more of a handball receive guy, I got tempted by the Richmond matchup and it didn’t pay off. Serong also had a tag, which was a big red flag but if he is now mature enough to handle it and still get bulk contested possessions and clearances (13 & 8 on the weekend), I think he’s a must have

Let’s say I run Jackson & English, my ruck line is already full without having any of Gawn, Xerri or Grundy.

Does anyone know the likelihood of Jackson gaining MID status based on his role over the weekend? I know this would need to continue of course, no reason it shouldn’t.

This would give me more clarity as I think long term Jackson could make the ideal flex candidate if he were to be a RUCK/MID.

  49. Worried about ongoing OUTs for Young and managed minutes when he does return.

Trading Young -> Fonti. Pocket $90k. Swing Grlj into midfield.

Fonti should make ~$50k this week, assuming he keeps up his scoring. My team should be fine for his BYE.

Next week, once Sellwood (~+35k) has likely banked a small price upgrade, I’ll go Sellwood -> Murdoch (re-using Grlj DPP), pocketing a further ~$50k.

This gives me $230k in the bank…

If Fonti is a flop, I can use that cash to trade to J. Daicos / D. Houston / N. Blakey (or use it elsewhere).

Feels like a reasonable use of 3 trades over 2 weeks. Gets me a very early premo upgrade.

TU: Good plan, trade Young -> Fonti and see how next week plays out.
    TD: Hold Young

  51. Is it worth trading Watkins to Murdoch this week or hold this week and see what happens before price change on them both

    T.u – trade this week
    T.d – hold and wait

  53. TU: Young direct to Fonti this week
TD: Hold Young for a week, see timeline, if bad, downgrade to a bubble rook and turn Blakiston into any premo (Other than Bont)

    • Or I could just do Gulden > Petracca, hold Young and move him next week as I should be able to cover with Best 18 (would have $134,600 ITB in this case)

  55. I have $185k cash ITB. Hayden Young has to go. There is something wrong with his legs. One week he has calf issues, and the next its a hamstring problem. Time to build my team without him.

TU- Trade out Young straight up to Caleb Serong. One trade. OR

TD- Trade out Young and Phillipou(If he misses) and grab Luke Jackson and Murdock.

    Decisions decisions….

  56. Need to trade Young out

    TU: Murdock
    TD: Fonti

If TD, still have time to bring Murdock in next week, but bit of an awkward price to move Fonti if he is a bust

  57. I have Young to deal with and now Gibcus has been dropped. Currently thinking those two out and bringing in Fonti and Murdock. Helps keep cash gen going and hopefully solidifies a pretty leaky defence. Leaves enough in the bank to target Bont next week too, all going well.

    TU/TD?

  58. Is there any value in the option to hold Young? Fair chance everyone will want him back when he comes back, but with 40 trades maybe that’s not a big deal. Is he worth holding ?
