It seems the Stretch has done his job. 22k coaches have moved Lachlan McAndrew on in the upgrade process and with a BE of 73 it’s not a bad time to pull the plug. However, if you think he can or will handle the dual ruck set up at the Power in this week’s Showdown and reach his BE, you could hold out until he hits up against the Tigers next week where he should score enough to get his cash gen flowing again. Has made over $240k so your call and if he’s a way to a bigger dog then don’t be shy, especially if you have him as R2 .
Jagga Smith is number two on the list with 20k coaches deciding that no score over 70 since round 3 is not good enough. I won’t be one of those however. His BE is 47 and that is still 28 under his average despite the recent floor scores. He will still make money and he’s a reasonable bench emergency and is coming upagainst the Saints who will not put much work into him. $180k is a good profit if you want to use him to better your team so it’s not a bad move overall.
Tom Blamires is suffering from being dropped and I suspect coaches are not wanting to have dead rookies in their sides. BE is still low enough at 28 but he needs to get back in the side. Has made over $180k so will not be a wasted trade if you decide to punt him.
Tanner Bruhn is one of those that needs a little more thought, I believe. Pending team structure and where your upgrade targets are, he’s one that probably should go, but as a player capable of scoring hundreds and averaging 86, he is better on your field than a rookie who may or may not beat his score. Plays North this week at home and historically scores pretty well against them with a high of 127 and average of 87. At the end of the day you will have to weigh up the scoring ability against the potential price drop whilst your potential target may increase in price during the same period.
Lachie Jaques is number five on the list with 8k trades but he hasn’t set the cash flow alight with $140k profit thus far. Will more than likely beat his BE and rise a little more, albeit against a Freo side on the march. His spot seems assured and I am ambivalent to trade or not. If he’s a way to a good upgrade, then go for it.
Kiddy Coleman is moving on from more than 7k teams, mainly because his BE of 78 is now higher than his average. He has not proved to be the keeper many had hoped for, and he has not made enough cash ($140k) to be a comfortable sale either. My take is try to get a NAS type if you can, especially as the Magician is expected back this week.
Even though he is listed as the tenth most traded, Colby McKercher fits into that Tanner Bruhn bracket of being a potential high scorer and do we trust him more than the myriad defensive rookies on our lists. If we could get a role set in concrete down back, we would absolutely keep him, but as a Mr Fixit we cannot trust his scoring and with a BE of 117 it should be a no brainer before he losses too much more cash. Not likely to reach his BE on the narrow confines of GMHBA so turn him into some one else whilst he still has some bankability.
The other three on the list are all rookies who have not reached the theoretical $150k profit margin to make them a profitable trade. Deven Robertson has to go at some stage and I can only assume folks are prioritising other trades as Deven is not affecting their team structure. Leo Lombard is a slow burn but seems to be best 23 at the Suns and is playing GWS at home so should easily reach his BE of 32, so not worth trading yet. Sam Grlj has a higher BE of 43 but it is still 25 lower than his average. He’s got potential to hit a spike score and that could be against West Coast this week, so I don’t reckon this is quite the time to sell him, considering he was a high draft pick and his profit is only at the $130k mark.
MOST TRADED: IN
Geelong discard and new Tiger, Patrick Retschko, has been traded in by well over 50k coaches, and with good reason. On the bubble with a minus 84 BE should make upward of $60k this week alone against The Weagles. Even though the mid rookies are plentiful, this bloke has scored 74 and 82 in his two matches so far and should top that on the wide open spaces of Optus this week. Best of the rookie buys by far.
Can’t say I’m a fan of the second most trades this week, despite the large amount of cash on offer for picking up Liam Reidy. The ex Docker did OK against his old side with a ton to follow his only other game 31 low earlier. Not so sure he scores so well with Pitto back in the side, although last week’s game should ensure he gets another crack this week in a dual ruck set up against the Saints at Marvel. For those cashing in McAndrew it makes some sense to plug that gap with a DPP but I wouldn’t be confidant he stays longer term.
Great time to snare NAS at a $50k discount, even if his price isn’t set to spike quickly with a BE of 121. Looks to be getting his mojo back and will surely enhance that against the Hapless Blues at Marvel under the roof where he has tonned up in his last two against them.
Jason Horne-Francis loves a showdown scoring 118 last year. Plus he’s looking really pleasing on the eye at the minute and with a handy DPP will surely be in the top eight forwards. A BE of 65 probably ensures this is the last time you can snaffle him for under $500k. His last two tons have come against some pretty handy oppo in Geelong and Hawthorn so I think you could buy with confidence given his next five are teams he should handle easily in Crows, Dogs, Suns (maybe), Carlton and West Coast.
Christian Petracca is a buy at some stage although the Suns have stumbled into a bit of a roadblock recently so it is not a case of getting him in at all costs just yet. Modest tons in his two games on return from the hammy, a BE of 115 and being in the guts with all three big dogs means you could wait. However his fixture is a little more open in the upcoming games against GWS, Saints, Port and North. Also factor in and consider the JHF deal at $60k cheaper, whatever suits you structure more.
I Picked up Jacko last week and put the C on as a new recruit. This week Luke Jackson potentially comes up against a ruckless Dogs side at Optus where he love chopping up. I say potentially, so keep an eye out for a team that just may include Tim English this week which may have a bearing on your trade decision. Pretty expensive but with plenty of upside whilst Sean Darcy stays out of the side.
On the other side of this coin is Tristian Xerri who hits the most traded list this week at a pretty hefty price of $686k and an even heftier BE of 192. Not doubting coaches think he will chop up against a rookie Mitch Edwards, even with the possibility of a Rhys Stanley recall to help in the trenches. He did last year with 151 but he fronts up against an in form Brodie Grundy the following week where he might just be eligible for a price decrease before hit outs against McAndrew and Witts. If you still have Stretch as R2 it would be OK but I’d consider Jackson first at $60k cheaper and look at the big X in a week or two unless you fear missing out on big points this week.
Kozzy Pickett comes up against a potential James Jordan tag this week, so buyer beware. You will probably want him at some stage sooner rather than later but that tag could be a deal breaker. Stats show he scored 148 against the Swannies last year, so I don’t figure he will be left alone to do that again. With a BE of 89 he should remain fairly static in price where you could look at getting him next week before an encounter with The Weagles under the roof. Also, JHF is $50k cheaper this week against a Dawson less Crows midfield.
Archie Roberts is at the top end of the defender range, and has a SC friendly role that is sure to keep on keeping on. A lot of the action will be down his end, he kicks the pill a lot and racks them up, and takes kick ins, all ready made SC points additions. Like the idea but might be worth waiting one more week as he fronts the Lions this week, and thanks to the Crows, are back in top form. He has not fared well in his few games against the reigning premier, not getting close to his 101 BE. Similar ownership to NAS but a bit cheaper so it really depends on your structure and bye set up as to which way you go. Personally, I like his style.
Number ten on the list is the Giant’s Brent Daniels. Can only assume it’s because he scored well last game and has a BE of -16 which should see him pick up a cool $40k this week all going well. But why? Is he going to be a keeper, probably not. Is he going to be a cash cow, probably not, especially at this stage of the season when we are starting to concentrate on upgrades. A little stat that has me thinking this is a move by average punters chasing cheap points is that no one in the top1%, top 5% or top 10% of coaches made this move this week.
Anyway, that’s my take for the week, thanks for reading and I hope it is of some use to you. As always, I encourage you to put some comments down the bottom to engender some healthy discussion on the trades and what your plans are.
Great writeup.

While Retschko is an obvious in are the other 2 going to be keepers for you?Can you save the boost and upgrade one of McAndrew or Blamires to a premium
Who goes first?
TU Jagga Smith
TD McAndrew (flex)
Rucks are Gawn Jackson
Jimmy I wait for your thread each week what a difference a week makes procrastinate on Kossy last week let it slip to this week. dumb. I have already traded. Painted the fence out Mc Andrews . Greijah IN Jackson .Retschko. NOTE you didn’t mention Arthur Jones on the bubble this week your thoughts use a BOOST this week for a fattened rookie that’s made $150 leave me 3 build the bank ?
Hi Spike, only do the top ten trades in and out and give them some analysis. Rookie review should cover the bubble boys. That said, FWIW I’d probably save the boost given the contrasting data of an 82 and a 21 is hard to gauge plus his highest scores against his next two are 33 (Freo) and 23 (Port) although these may have been sub affected (I haven’t done that research).
If English wasn’t back to create some clearance opportunities, I would say a definite no, given the Dogs depleted backline will have trouble propelling them forward often enough for him to get the pill a lot.
Trading out
TU: Blamires
TD: Jagga
