Game Chat – Adelaide vs Geelong

Where and when: Adelaide Oval at 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R13 2020: Geelong 9.11 (65) def Adelaide 5.7 (37) at Adelaide Oval

The Crows surprised the in-form Cats early, leading the centre clearances 6-1 at half-time and holding Geelong to just 45 points and a 9 point lead at 3 quarter time. Guthrie and Menegola settled the ship and guided the Cats home with a 3 goal-to-none final quarter, but this game showed there were signs of life in Adelaide.

Match Preview: Geelong will be seeking a fast start to 2021 after gambling on ageing stars, Smith and Higgins, and they should have little trouble accounting for a Crouch-less Adelaide. Barring a miracle, the only interest in this game will be Supercoach scores and watching debutants James Rowe and Sam Berry play.

Thommo Watch:

Adelaide
In their second year under coach Matthew Nicks, the Crows will be hoping for some improvement in their young guns. With no Matthew Crouch, the Rories, Sloane and Laird will need all the help they can get. We Supercoaches will be busy watching popular rookie Rowe along with the gun ruckman, Reilly O’Brien who looks primed to take the next step in 2021.

Geelong

Despite their dominant 2021, the Cats haven’t had a lot of fans in Supercoach. Dangerfield had a setback in the preseason but remains a relatively common selection after playing in the single preseason match while the underpriced Tom Stewart and Jordan Clark are also popular.

Thommo’s Tip: Cats by 30 points.

  1. Jake Kelly looks to have copped a massive head knock and has concussion.
This was due to a head clash from Danger and he went for a bump so this may not be a good sign for Danger with the MRO
