Game Chat – Adelaide vs Geelong

Written by Thommo on March 20 2021

Where and when: Adelaide Oval at 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R13 2020: Geelong 9.11 (65) def Adelaide 5.7 (37) at Adelaide Oval

The Crows surprised the in-form Cats early, leading the centre clearances 6-1 at half-time and holding Geelong to just 45 points and a 9 point lead at 3 quarter time. Guthrie and Menegola settled the ship and guided the Cats home with a 3 goal-to-none final quarter, but this game showed there were signs of life in Adelaide.

Match Preview: Geelong will be seeking a fast start to 2021 after gambling on ageing stars, Smith and Higgins, and they should have little trouble accounting for a Crouch-less Adelaide. Barring a miracle, the only interest in this game will be Supercoach scores and watching debutants James Rowe and Sam Berry play.

Thommo Watch:

Adelaide
In their second year under coach Matthew Nicks, the Crows will be hoping for some improvement in their young guns. With no Matthew Crouch, the Rories, Sloane and Laird will need all the help they can get. We Supercoaches will be busy watching popular rookie Rowe along with the gun ruckman, Reilly O’Brien who looks primed to take the next step in 2021.

Geelong

Despite their dominant 2021, the Cats haven’t had a lot of fans in Supercoach. Dangerfield had a setback in the preseason but remains a relatively common selection after playing in the single preseason match while the underpriced Tom Stewart and Jordan Clark are also popular.

Thommo’s Tip: Cats by 30 points.

    1. Haven’t seen too much of him on ball for a lot of this quarter. I’ve only seen him for a small stint and grabbed a couple of disposals

  1. Jake Kelly looks to have copped a massive head knock and has concussion.
This was due to a head clash from Danger and he went for a bump so this may not be a good sign for Danger with the MRO

      1. He also didn’t leave the ground and hit shoulder to shoulder, with a head clash the issue. It will be interesting how this is adjudicated.

        My best guess 1 week….

      1. who was your original loophole Freo? I have Fyfe in DEF – and Fullarton on the bench with Rowe in the FWDS … hmmmm

          1. did you move clark to def before the game started? Otherwise if he is in Mid already, you cant swap him back to DEF, which means you still have Fyfe??? I’m confused otherwise??

          2. Make sure you attempt your trades well before a lockout.

It will only take the system to be flooded and you’ll be banished to the public.

      1. yeah I was running an NPR in defence and have Rowe with the E on the bench. Fullarton is my other bench.

Trade him down to a NPR as well?? Looks like Rowe will crack the 100!

Pity there is no one else that is playing in Def??

          1. yeah I have all of them with Fyfe as my NPR loophole at D8. There is no other rookie DEF that is playing that I can bring in I think.

So I either just live with the fact that I miss his score, or drop fullarton and have two NPRs this week … unless Ziebell, Jones or Brockman somehow miss out …
