Captaincy Candidates – Round 5

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

NEALE v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 88, 89, 113 (97 av.)
  • L3 @ G: 105, 100, 133 (113 av.)

We all thought he’d have been condemned to a sub-ton on account of an impending O’Connor tag but Neale was fantastic last week: fought through it for 30 touches and a whopping 21 contested (67%). Low MG and more handballs than kicks a result of the tag but won’t have that problem this week. In top notch form, Lions to devour the Pies and Neale to stroll to 140.

MACRAE v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 108, 138, 90 (112 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 92, 142, 113 (116 av.)

Bar those who drilled Gawn, you weren’t playing SC last week if you didn’t VC/C Macrae last week. Did exactly as expected and shredded the Tigers leaky midfield even in a loss. Roos at Marvel another juicy match up, Macrae a lock for his customary 130 and could be another 160 if the Dogs really get to work early.

DUNKLEY v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 132, 130, 106 (123 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 129, 97, 66 (97 av.)

Would have been frustrating to have rolled with Dunks last week. While he was well amongst it with 37 touches, 11 marks and great ground coverage, he butchered himself (67% DE, 5 clangers) out of score deep into the 130s. 125 at a minimum this week in what should be a much more low octane affair.

Captaincy Candidates

STEELE v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 110, 124, 115 (116 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 121, 87, 155 (121 av.)

Despite the Saints continuation with a diversified midifeld mix, Steele’s team high 30 touches and 15 contested signaled a return to captaincy viability. Despite a really strong synergy with Ryder, 120+ won’t be a problem for Steele this week.

MILLER v Saints

  • L3 v Saints: 115, 109, 101 (108 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 148, 155, 142 (148 av.)

Consigned to a low-ton last week with standing attention last week but still managed 32 touches and a ridiculous 21 contested. Much like Neale, the attention at stoppage denied him to space to take the meterage by foot he’d normally opt for but the man is still insane. Important game for the Suns to tilt their season to 3-2, so expect Miller to fire on all cylinders for 140. Also has a ridiculous 148 av. at Marvel somehow!

PARISH v Dockers

  • L3 v Dockers: 134, 53, 61 (83 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 121, 110, 96 (109 av.)

Finally had a game somewhat resembling his 2021 form last week. 38 touches, 17 contested and 8 clearances despite 78% and a still messed around with CBA load. Great fall back option for 125 if you need him.

Steer Clear

SATAN v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 87, 67, 87 (80 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 146, 112, 93 (117 av.)

Giants now back to running a tag and they’ve deployed to to Satan with great effectiveness many times before. Not worth the headf*ck. Sub-ton to low-ton.

Smoky Pick

GAWN v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 100, 163, 150 (138 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 117, 92, 100 (103 av.)

Played a phenomenal game last week against an undersized Port which let him go vintage. This week the Giants main man in Preuss is doing it tough in Cell Block B for one week, so Gawn should feast on an alternate ruck setup with very little match exposure for 120. That said, there’s only really one combination this week…

Verdict

It’s just gotta be Neale into Macrae.

  1. Hey GD great work as usual. Going to put the vc on Neale but tempted to try a Smokey and put the C on English. Up against Xerri this week I just reckon it could be a 150+ Good luck to you and everyone this week. I fear my beloved pies will start the round with a big loss…….

  2. I think a lot of coaches will go Neale for the V and Macrae the C and enjoy a nice relaxing Easter weekend.
    That’s what I’ll be doing.

    1. With Cripps as the perfect ‘C’ loophole as was Stewart’s role last week. Some things just write themselves.

    1. Don’t have Neale, Pete? He’s a must VC if you’ve got him.

If not, those 2 combos are still great.

Would probably prefer Brayshaw at home, but should still carve up the Dons.

      Here are his stats:

      BRAYSHAW v Dons

      L3 v Dons: 126, 66, 53 (82 av.)
      L3 @ MRVL: 110, 126, 66 (101 av.)

  3. Macrae into Gawn for me
Gawn against Flynn/Keefe or Flynn/Briggs with his record is too hard for me to pass up

    1. Wouldn’t pass on Neale, Tom.

Will be highly VC’d, looks to be back to his best and the Pies at home is an irresistible match up.

Up to you though. Good luck!

  5. Rowell to O’Driscoll (rookie M8, either O’Driscoll or Josh ward until Cripps back) then allows gibcus $294.3k ($512.8k total) to either Saad or Sicily?

  6. Ive got ROB at R2 and noticed that in his 3 games against the tigers so far, he has averaged 152!! Is he worth a thought this week? Comes with risk obviously but great numbers.

    1. Maybe by K Turner – but I think Bont and Bailey Smith will also get some attention from any North taggers, and they can’t tag them all

Macrae also works through a tag pretty well – although if Coach Noble is listening, no tag for Macrae definitely sounds much better for our appointed Captain
