Cow Talk R 4–> 5

Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows

Hi Everybody!

Well, that was a week….

I generally don’t like to talk about my own team, but this week was special. So, I will note that I started with Naicos, English and Richards, and just this week took a punt, for reasons, on Finn O’Sullivan. The issues with the premos was frustrating enough, but O’Sullivan get taken out for a few weeks as well? Very Demoralizing.

I’m not even giving him a hard time about it.

I’m not either, although doesn’t mean I have forgiven him for the cats

While very bummed, I am keeping going. I realized a while back that the only way to get better at Supercoach was to play Supercoach. No amount of theory and reading and listening to stuff is as valuable as actually going through a season. So, no matter how far back I get or badly I have done each week

Like your tech team?

Oh, do not mention the tech league…..

Why because he’s 30th out of 35 and had done, like, near everything wrong?

And because his main team, if it was in the tech league would be 36th.

Yes, fine, let us say last rites for both my teams, ok? That’s partly my point. I am not giving up, if nothing else because I’ll learn from all this. Besides, if I work hard and get lucky I might end up at least a bit better off.  Maybe more than a bit, but if I give up, I will learn nothing and I’ll end up mad at myself for giving up. So, I’m gonna keep going.

Well, you have been here before.

Yeah, so to try and be useful, having real problems is a chane to do some real thinking. The kink that will help in the future.

Oh, you can be more useful. Give some advice, dodgy or good.

Ok. Firstly look ahead at trades. Try and see how many you will need to get to full premium. We’re all likely close to needing to be way careful with them. We will need some for injuries.

Don’t spend trades on nice to haves, only spend them on must haves. I have Caldwell, and I’d like to upgrade him but no way can I afford a trade to do that. I can and will live with him.

Don’t trade out players who have money left to make unless you really, and I mean really have to. Budarick, for example, had a BE well under his average, and is certainly capable of a ton that pushes his average up.

Figure out what cows you are just going to keep because they are not worth cashing in and aren’t worth a trade to fix. Going sideways on a cow can be worse than going sideways on a premium.

Do not overspend on anyone. Just don’t.

Pay close attention to the rule of three and who is due for price drops.

The rule of three?

He was going to write about that before he got the sads.

Oh, fiddlesticks! Yeah, ok. Quick explanation. Each week’s score will affect a player’s price for three weeks. So, if a player had a really bad score this week, it already lowered his price once, and will lower it two more times. So, if someone goes 100, 100, 50, 100, 101, after that 101 his price will be at its low point and probably start going back up. So, that lets us plan when we can best bring in a fallen premium. High breakevens help with that, but the rule of three helps planning past next week.

Same things applies to high scores and prices. Huge score, price goes up for three weeks. If they are a cow good, if you already own them good, if you do not own them and want to, bad.

Hey, speaking of cows and price changes….?

Ah yes. Next week, I begin with the numbers. Not enough time for me to get them done with the round closing late this week, but the plan is to have those for next week.

Dodgy Advice:

We are only four weeks in  so no need to go mad, but if you are trying to catch up, it is a good time to consider players who are not expensive but might score as or near keepers. Those guys are hard to spot. A role change that is working, and, AND looks like it is not temporary. Job security is good too.  You might end up with a barely tolerable D6/M8/F6 or you might end up with a solid D3-4/M6/F3-4 at a discount. I like to look at players I think are good long term prospects who might be upping their game this year. I may, for example, just get in Freijah for Richards. I liked Joel pre-season but he was not a good enough option to start with. Now, he has had 2 tons in a row, one with Ed in the team and one without. So hard to say if he can really go at 96+ for the rest of the season, or if he will end up too up and down and just score 80ish. Breakout candidates are hard to predict. If you feel confident in someone, go for it. If not, then stick to players you are confident in. No need to force guys like this.

Remember the Cow Talk guarantee: “All predictions wrong or triple your money back!”  (Offer not valid if money is actually involved.)

I am time zonally challenged.  When Cow Talk goes live, I’m probably asleep, so replies from me may take a while.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Caldwell

    I share Father Dougal’s pain.

What’s another three games, another fourty grand down the gurgler you might ponder?

Think last year coming back from hip surgery he went amiss scoring an 80….off the scene for weeks….came back for two stinkers his price tanked from over 500k to less than 450k….then after six very good scores his season was over at round 17, his price up to around his starting price.

I’ll be seeing him off, but that raises questions.

    N. Daicos from cripple to top flight in one week?

I can’t see that, and rushing him back could lead to further injury or discomfort and reduced agility and speed.

So I might put faith in C. Lord, bank the $180k+ leftover, put him on the bench until his return, I’ll only be losing ten to twenty points by playing a sub and he’s predicted to rise $80k by round nine or ten just in time for a bye round upgrade ~$580-610k

    • You could, if you really want out of Caldwell, go right to Clarry. Even gets a few dollars back. I’d much prefer that to Lord. I’d prefer Coleman to Lord too.

I really would not bring in someone not playing.

Just off the top of my head, Rachelle, Reid, T Kelly, Freijah…

I like right to Clarry the best of those, or Rachelle if you want a forward, Coleman in defense. Lots of options going from Caldwell.

      • You was on the ball suggesting Rachele F.D.

I was out of Caldwell for Nick Daicos then it was reported he wasn’t fully mobile at training Thursday in Adelaide so swapped him for Steele.

        Time will tell.

        • I started by trading English, Richards, and O’Sullivan for Rachele, Gawn, and Farrow. But, with Richards named, I’d rather keep him. And I can do that by yeeting Caldwell for him. So, turns I I did trade out Caldwell! Not sure what I would have done has I know Riached would be named before trading, but an either or of Richards v Cladwell seems easy.
