Fallen Premiums – Round 12

Defenders

Holmes 568.9k -31.1k 117 AVG 107 BE

Holmes has had another amazing season for the cats thus far, bumping his average up to 117 across half back and midfield roles. As a result he has now gained defender status, which simply makes him a must have player. He’ll compete to be D1 with Sinclair from here on out and provides much more dependability and scoring potential than all the other defenders. Seeing as he’s also not unreasonably priced at the moment, it seems to be the perfect storm for non owners to bring him in this week. I’ll be one of them.

Wilkie 437.7k -62.7k 100 AVG 67 BE

Wilkie is one of a couple of key defenders that have broken out as premium options this year. He’s been rock solid for years in the saints defense and now has the scoring profile to be SuperCoach relevant. Outside of his injury affected 24 a couple weeks ago, his lowest score is 86 which is outstanding consistency for a big fella. He provides great value this week at 437k and should capitalise on a good run of marvel games for st kilda. If you can get past selecting a key back, there’s no other obvious issues here

Midfielders

Ed Richards 522.5k -79.8k 106 ACG 113 BE

Up and down season for Ed so far as he’s been battling some soreness and lingering injuries. Despite those issues, he’s still averaging 106 and hit form with 140 against the dees last week. Gun player who proved he can be a premium last year. If you’re confident he’s turned the corner with health, he could pay dividends as he helps the dogs make a September push with their troops back. Good option if, like most, you already have the next bloke.

Nick Daicos 515.8k -112.6k 112 AVG 94 BE

Kind of crazy how such good scorers can get this cheap at different stages of the season. It happens to almost everyone at some point, even the guys we happily pay $600k+ for at the start of every season, like Bont a couple weeks ago. This time around it’s Nick Daicos who is unfathomably almost under $500k due to a couple tags, some soreness and Collingwood’s inconsistency. Most coaches already have him, but if you don’t then I shouldn’t have to explain this one. Lock in and don’t look back. He’ll get tagged, he’ll drop 150s and he’ll be a top mid anyway.

Ruck

Darcy Cameron 412.6k -189.7k 85 AVG 44 BE

I’ve spent the last couple weeks ignoring the ruck section, but this week has presented an interesting option for any coaches looking for some value. Steene’s ACL tear, while devastating for the team, thrusts Darcy Cameron back into a solo ruck role. We had almost forgotten that he averaged 111 last year in that role and certainly has the capacity to do so again, as he tends to ramp up in the back half of the year. Many are looking at him as a stepping stone to an uber ruck, but I’m actually planning to put him in the flex and go with the 3 ruck setup most want, at a major discount of around $200k. That’s certainly no guarantee to happen, but if it works out it’s amazing value. As a slight concern, watch to see if there’s rumours about bringing in one of the mid season guys to give him a chop out. I doubt that will happen for a while but given his age and the bench rules it is a possibility. It’s a pick that’s pretty dependent on structure, so sum up the risk vs reward and go from there.

Forwards

Kysaiah Pickett 469.8k -33.1k 99 AVG 120 BE

Kozzie has been brilliant as a full time midfielder this year, which has been integral to melbournes surprising success. He finally had a couple of the lean weeks we expected more of, leading to this healthy discount. Back to 100 last week and should go on to be a top 6 forward. You can also afford to wait as the BE is still high, but I reckon we’ll all want him at some stage with the consistency and ceiling he’s showing us.

Jason Horne-Francis – 443.3k -67.9k 92 AVG 78 BE

Up and down year for the horney one, much like almost every forward option this year. Looked great a few weeks ago with tons against the hawks and cats, before of course dropping stinkers against worse opponents. Had a great performance last week to intrigue us again, given his extremely low price. He’ll be up and down, but I’d seriously doubt that you’re not gonna get what you pay for at the very least. Just about at the bottom of his price range so a decent option if you already have kozzie or want to save a couple bucks.

That’s another week done and dusted. I’m already sick of the byes and we haven’t even started them back up. Good luck all.

  1. Cameron looks a great option at flex as you say. Anyone brought in this week will miss at least one bye so thats irrelevant, and Rankine/Whitfield both can be held due to bye structure, then a decision made.
