Fallen Premiums – Round 5

Finally a proper round of football… and some nice discounted premos.

Defenders

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera – 568.1k, (-54.2k), 93 AVG, 119 BE

Spoke about Nas a couple of weeks ago. Now he’s had his bye and an extra week to prepare for a big one against Port on Sunday. The big question is whether he’ll continue to be tagged every week. Either way, he should end up a top defender and he’s received a healthy discount on his starting price. Reckon he could break through for a big score this week. Any of the big 4 GWS/Saints premo defenders that you don’t have are a great option this week.

 

Lachie Whitfield – 547.5k, (-51.7k), 99 AVG, 103 BE

Whitfield is another who will cost you less after a slow start to the season. Fresh off a nice 128 against Collingwood and a week of rest, he should be right to be a top 6 defender once again from here on out. Him and Ash can both co-exist pretty well SuperCoach wise and he rarely gets tagged. Nice matchup with the Tiges this week, great buy.

 

Archie Roberts – 478.4k, (+25.7k), 98 AVG, 50 BE

Most coaches looking for a defensive upgrade will go for one of the above options this week, but I thought I’d give Roberts a quick mention for anyone looking for a slightly cheaper play. He’s had 3 tons on the trot after a strange Round 1 where he had low time on ground and played a variety of roles. He’s back to accumulating across the bombers back half, as one of their few bright spots. Riskier pick, but if this is what he’s going to provide going forward, the price is right. Colby McKercher, who I highlighted last week is still in a similar boat and provides value.

 

Incoming: 

Rory Laird – 559k, 181 BE

Jordan Clark – 546.4k, 146 BE

Midfielders

Lachie Neale – 528.7k, (-44.6k), 101 AVG, 129 BE

Neale is at a very attractive price after copping a tag against St Kilda. 114 against the Pies, with a potentially juicy matchup against North this week for prospective buyers. He is prone to opposition attention, but it really should become less frequent with the emergence of Will Ashcroft and the imminent return of McCluggage. You can also wait a week if you don’t think he’ll go huge, as his BE is still at 129. Getting such a proven scorer this cheap is always a great option.

 

Caleb Serong – 567.5k, (-4.2k) 118 AVG, 86 BE

Outside of being tagged by Melbourne, Serong has had a ripping start to the year, averaging 118. The threat of a tag will always be there, but when it results in an average of 115+ it makes it much more tempting to ride out the lows. You can pick him up this week for lower than his starting price, and he has some good matchups coming. His teammate Brayshaw has also gotten a nice discount and is a good option.

 

Jack Steele – 540.2k, (+30.2k), 115 AVG, 67 BE

Jack has found a new home at Melbourne and he’s playing like it, with solid scoring leading into a big 147 in the upset win over the suns. With the absence of Viney he’s been really important as the reliable ball winner in that new-look midfield which is a great role. The options above are probably safer but he’s got proven scoring history and is definitely still value at this price. Could be a POD at just 6% ownership.

 

Incoming:

Noah Anderson – 584.7k, 169 BE

Jordan Dawson – 580k, 143 BE

 

Rucks

Brodie Grundy – 661k, (-16.9k), 130 AVG, 76 BE

A lot of owners will be looking for an English replacement this week. Grundy is a great option if you have the cash. Went massive against Flynn on Saturday night and has Briggs in a couple of weeks who has also been giving up good scores. With his work around the ground, he’s a pretty safe bet to average over 120 and be a top ruck once again. If you’re strapped for cash and you don’t have Jackson, he’s the play. If you have plenty of cash, big Max just keeps delivering year after year that he’s expected to take a step back. He’ll be a top 2 scorer with the Bont again.

Incoming 

Jarrod Witts – 528.6k, 182 BE

Darcy Cameron – 499.4k, 181 BE

 

Forwards

Josh Rachele – 407k, (+37.4k), 90 AVG, 22 BE

Rachele has been given more responsibility in the crows midfield the last couple of weeks and that has been reflected in his scoring. It’s clear he’s got great ability and if he continues this form he could present great value for our sides. He is new to this role though and if the crows decide to mix it up further, he could easily get sent back to the forwardline in favour of Rankine, Soligo etc. As of now he’s averaging a respectable 90, has performed well in the midfield, and still has plenty of cash to make. He’s one to consider this week despite the risk he presents.

 

Kysaiah Pickett – 518.4k, (+23.5k), 105, 49 BE

All 3 of the options I highlighted last week (Kozzy, Bailey and McInerney) performed well, but Pickett was absolutely electric for the second week in a row. He’s starting to look more like a natural midfielder than just a pinch-hitting impact player by the week and is a big reason for the Dees’ bright start. He may still be inconsistent however, and you have to think a tag will be coming in the near future. But if he keeps having games like this, he’ll probably be a top 6 forward anyway. The other 2 and Sam Darcy are still solid options as well.

 

Incoming

Izak Rankine – 475.4k, 183 BE

Jeremy Cameron – 445k, 170 BE
