Fix My Team – Round 3

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on April 2 2023

We’ve of course got Trade Talk up for this week but thought we’d get a Fix My Team thread for those who feel their side is in need of a wholesale rework. If you feel you’re in that category, go ahead and post your full team and ITB and any areas, issues or pain-points that you need of shot of SCT guidance injected into.

  1. Posted in Trade Talk but will try here too as my team fkn sucks…

    DEF: Dawson, Doch, Daicos, Ridley, Gibney McKenna (Wilmot, Cowan)

    MID: LDU, Green, Bazlenka, Setterfield, Hopper, Calla, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Baker, Davey, Constable)

    RUCK: Marshall, Cameron (Madden)

    FWD: Dunks, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Sheez, Flanders (Long, Greene)

    – Kinda regret going balls dep in DEF and my MID sucking ass
    – Traded S.Darcy out for Cameron last week to get Ldu in (Capital L there)
    – Probably need Flanders and Calla out
    – 43k ITB
    – Send help

    1. Hey Dick
      Pretty simple Cameron to Grundy then Flanders to Chandler
      Nice looking team though
      Good luck

    2. Gday Dick
      Never given advice before but when I read your post last night there were no replies,so here’s my go at either fixing or f£§king your team.
      I’d look at Ridley > Day =137500 ITB.
      Cameron > English leaves you 14700,not much to play with for Flanders/Callaghan (or even Bazlenka).
      Cameron > Grundy leaves 122200,a good amount to move any of the above 3 on.
      May I put Nank into the equation? Ave 118,BE 75.Has 3 toughies next 4,the other being Sydney,then has a run of WC,Geel,Ess,Port and GWS.Cameron > Nank leaves 78000 after Ridley trade.
      I would go Ridley > Day,Cameron > Grundy and with a boost Flanders > Chandler leaving you 166,700 ITB to further improve your side next week.
      Another suggestion,if I may is keeping an eye on Liam Baker D/F,remembering that both Ziebell and Sheezel will both be D/F come round 6.
      Hope I haven’t made a fool of myself on this brilliant site and good luck.

    3. Cameron > Grundy
      Baslenka > Jelly
      Callaghan > Philips
      $29.5k l/o.
      Hold Flanders for loophole / price not altering.

  2. Def – Dawson, Daicos, Ginbey, McKenna, Wilmot, Cowan (Constable, Chesser)

    Mid – Miller, Bont, LDU, Cogs, Green, Setterfield, Ashcroft, Cmac (Baker, Davey, Uwland)

    Ruck – Romo, Cameron (Madden)

    Fwd – Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Ziebell, Sheezel (Caminiti, Greene)

    Need to to trade Cameron. Was thinking Cameron to either Grundy/Goldstein? And maybe Uwland to Phillips? Thoughts?

    1. Yeah, that sounds good.

      No real path to Tingles so Grundy will do.

      And, yeah, you will need to freshen up your rookies. If Phillips holds with LDU back, then grab him.

      Your DEF is an issue with Wilmot and Cowan both being on field. That’s your #1 priority once you’re able to make some moves.

      2

  3. DEF: Sicily, Doc, Daicos, Ginbey, McKenna, Wilmot (Cowan, Gilbee)
    MID: Neale, Bont, LDU, Green, Setters, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillipou (Baker, Constable,Chesser)
    RUCK: Witts, RoMo (Madden)
    FWD: Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Gulden, Sheezel, Davey (Greene, Sinn).

    30 trades and $2,700 ITB.

    As much as I’d love to get Tingles in (Doc to Day, RoMo to Tingles), I know it isn’t a smart move. I’m also loving the ability to rookie loop DEF, MID, FWD with Gilbee and Sinn but, again, I know it isn’t worth the potential cash gen I’m losing.
    Would love to get the opinion of the SC brains trust.

    Cheers.

    1. Honestly it might be worth just sitting on your hands and saving some trades for a week. The loopholing definitely helps your infield score so can be very valuable in and of itself. If Tylar Young is named you could trade Chesser to him to make about $30k and then whatever cash Young makes but I think you just have to be patient and trust your premos to come good. Docherty is much more likely to be in your final team than Day while Marshall isn’t losing money and will have a ridiculous game at some stage to start going up in cash. He’s more than serviceable and May as well take the advantage of an extra trade compared to everyone who has had to mess with their ruck line with Gawn and Cameron.

    Mid: laird, Bont, green, setterfield, hopper, Callahan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (baker, Davey, chesser)

    Fwd: Dunkley, rozee, toranto, gulden, ziebell, sheezel (Greene, long)

    But can’t afford getting Phillips in for Callahan so will need to go a week early on a rookie or boost

      Cameron to Grundy or English (If you prefer) then Callaghan to chandler via DPP

  5. Break the bank and use up my 300k midpricers now (who aren’t making much money)to get in laird and Oliver slowing down progression.
    Or just take it slow targeting Stewart, bont LDU, Merritt,Sinclair. One after the other skipping Oliver and laird till much later.

    4

    1. Who are the midpricers you speak of ToF?

      Clarry is a must he has an easy fixture ahead dont think hes dropping alot.
      Laird may (depending on his next two scores) drop 20-30k in the next fortnight. Not sure he’s worth throwing the kitchen sink at yet.

      1. Worpal, setterfield, Powell, JHF, NWM, Callaghan, ziebell.
        Was hoping for 75+ from them but only 2 delivering so far. May keep setters and Ziebell most likely not.

        0

        0
        1. Powell, Callaghan and NWM are the only ones not giving you the 75+ so they’d be the only ones to cull. Be patient. Bad games happen and you just have to remember that all of Worpel, Setterfield, JHF and Ziebell will make you cash and will have better scores compared to other teams fielding rookies against them. Maybe they’re not all keepers but you don’t have to cull them while they’re still increasing in value

  6. Got a few “premiums” that need to lift this week, or do I start the culling early? Looking at you Docherty, Brayshaw & Coniglio…

    Or do I bring in some more cash generation in Ryan for Madden?

    1. GnR structure is nice to see! How’s your rank overall, Blvckboard? I’m curious to know how it’s stacking up against all the midprice madness out there.

      Brayshaw BE 139 & Dochs BE 166.
      If your going to axe them this is probably the week before they potentially bleed another $30-40k each. Cogs should finish top 6 forward I wouldn’t worry about him he will be fine. Personally brayshaw to LDU looks an easy move.

      1. Gotta agree with Mav, that’s a great team structure there so you could even get away with just holding. Brayshaw is a gun and will have some ridiculous games this year so could be good to hold off but LDU is the player I’d trade him to

    Liking Stewart and Day here

    Currently considering:
    Young to Day
    Bont to LDU
    Cameron to English

    Leaves me with about $40k

    Trading out Bont is not something I would usually consider and Callaghan the more logical trade out but leaves me short..

      What about:

      Young -> Day (100k)

      D. Cam -> Tingles

      1. Yep was thinking either those two, only problem went Anderson to Warner now ldu.
        Ldu will atleast make cash.
        Had three of them in mind at the start of the year, so guess I’ll just keep burning those trades. Oh well, it’s only a game.

    1. I’d try and get Happy Grundy for Draper now and then get english witts during byes
      If you drop hopper for Noah Long or Tyler Brockman you will have enough
      Brayshaw also bleeding cash with 84 ave you could pull the pin on that loss and generatge some points and cash

    2. Ooof. Yeah, you can’t get Draper up to anyone in 2 trades. Hmm. Let me think.

      McLean -> van Rooyen/Brockman
      Brayshaw -> LDU
      Draper -> Flynn

      Those first two trades should jjjjjjust get you to 486k.

      Waiting a week won’t really help. Dirty but has to be done. Draper a horrific pick that needs to be off your books.

    1. I would think of Cameron to Grundy otherwise your bank disappears.
      So you can spend some money on L Jones, Callaghan, Flanders.
      Wilmot, Cowan and O Baker are being used on field by some teams.

    2. Passes on Tingles but given your sizeable ITB and need to move Flanders, I think this could work quite nicely:

      Cally -> Rowston/MID rookie (326k)
      D. Cam -> Grundy (311k)
      Flanders -> FWD premo/LDU (via Davey DPP)

    2. Yeah, Cally to Hopper is good.

      You could do Doch to Day if you want to jump on the bangwagon and build some bank, but that’s totally optional. Cally to Hopper an easy one.

      Cameron to Grundy and Callaghan to Bowes (via Constable)

    Def: Daicos, JClark, Cumming, Ginbey, McKenna, Wilmot. Constable, Chesser

    Mid: Neale, Trac, BCrouch, LDU, Warner, Holmes, Ashcroft, MacKenzie. Baker, Long, Davey

    Ruck: Cameron, McInerney. mcAndrew

    Fwd: Dunkley, Cogs, Rozee, JHF, Sheezel, Chandler. Phillipou, Greene

    Obvious problems are

    J Clark (81.3) Cumming (78)
    Warner (84.3) Holmes (81.7) will be traded
    McInerney (77.7)

    And obviously Cameron being injured and potential problems with Chesser being hurt (although I think he could be a solid loophole guy) and Constable if he can’t get back into the side

    Potentially looking at Holmes to a bubble rookie then fixing Cameron with his injury problem

    1. Oh dear. Probs have to ride McInerney. Has ruck-less Pies this week.

      Don’t know your ITB, which makes it a challenge, but off the rack:

      Cumming -> Day
      Warner -> Cripps/Green

  15. Sorry all. Reposting because I am about to do something rash.

    DEF: Sicily, Doc, Daicos, Ginbey, McKenna, Wilmot (Cowan, Gilbee)
    MID: Neale, Bont, LDU, Green, Setters, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Phillipou (Baker, Constable,Chesser)
    RUCK: Witts, RoMo (Madden)
    FWD: Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Gulden, Sheezel, Davey (Greene, Sinn).

    30 trades and $2,700 ITB.

    No major injury concerns but, as always, I’m contemplating stupid moves early in the week involving underperforming premos:
    Doch to Day, Neale (looks like leaking for the next few weeks) to Clarry (awesome draw next few) and Sinn to N Long.
    Leaves me with $26000 ITB.
    I’m loving the ability to VC/rookie loop DEF, MID, FWD with Gilbee and Sinn but I know it isn’t worth the potential cash gen I’m losing. Probably should only be looking at rookie corrections.

    Would love to get the opinion of the SC brains trust. Can someone PLEASE talk me out of my knee-jerk premo trades?

    0

    1
    1. Hey, Gulp.

      The premo moves are honestly fine but don’t like this Sinn/Long nonsense. Your bench/CG is already dire. I’d be looking to freshen that up.

      0

      1. Thanks GD.
        You mean Constable/Chesser? My reasoning was that Sinn and Gilbee won’t make a cent whereas Constable will if he gets back on (and has the same facility as a loop until then), so I assumed they’d be first…
        I’d love to hear your suggestions, if you get a moment.

        0

        0
        1. Yeah, just mean that you’ve got 4 dead rookies rn. Chesser, Constable, Gilbee and Sinn. I’d be looking to freshen them up for playing/on the bubble rookies in the coming weeks.

          Obviously, yeah, you’d sack Chesser, Gilbee and Sinn before Constable.

          0

          0
    2. I’d actually look at just trading 2 of the dead rookies. Chesser and Gilbee would probably be my picks cause it still leaves you with the loophole options in each line by holding Sinn. Then bring in Tylar Young and one of JVR or Brockman. You picked Docherty and Neale for a reason, they’ll score you points but you really need to fix up your cash gen

    DCam -> English/Grundy (can’t decide)
    Callaghan -> WPhillips

    Now this is what I’m torn with.
    Doch -> LDU (pending fitness)

    Doch just leaking cash and it hurts. LDU looks to be a top 8 midfielder and won’t get him any cheaper you would imagine. Can’t make the same argument for doch being a top 6 defender anymore… Just feels sketchy trading doch though I’d be back to a 2 premium defence til I can swing sheeze and ziebel in 2 weeks. Thoughts?? Happy for other suggested avenues to LDU

    1. #1) Rioli -> Day
      #2) Ridley -> Stewart
      #3) Zerrett/Neale -> LDU

      Trade #1 makes itself. Done. #2 does go early on Stewart and miss getting him cheaper (BE 161) but he’ll be a huge POD this week, you’ll be ahead of the pack and he could go very large v Hawks @ the G.

      The third trade is entirely optional. I started Neale as well – he’s been very frustrating and contemplating the LDU move myself. HB happy, deferring a lot, not taking the game on. With the Lions season at a crossroads and North next week, I think I’m just gonna hold. LDU has Blues and Lions next week and that could easily be Curnow tag and Berry tag. For those getting someone UP to him, it’s fine but there’s a case for holding premos ahead of him.

      On Zerrett, I have more faith in him than Neale tbh. Tagged last week and had looks previously, just needs to build into some freedom and form.

      1. Hot damn GD, thank you for the suggestions!! – Rioli out for Day is solid. I’ve played around and although I love the idea of T Stewart in now, I could gamble that Ridley doesn’t get too far away and Stewart goes down in price next week so I can make a swap with the cheddar generated from the following.

        And the trades for this week being.
        1) Rioli into Day
        2) Neale into LDU
        3) Marshall into Tingles

        …is this nuts?!?

        0

        0
        1. I think you could also just do Rioli to Day. As GD said, Neale has some easy games coming up that you’ll expect him to go big in and Marshall is definitely not a problem but I get that English would be better to have so I’d understand that luxury trade. I also like holding Ridley for another week. He’s only really had the one bad game and even then it was 70 which isn’t terrible for a worst case scenario

      Think that’s a pretty huge move if you’re willing to weather not owning Tingles. I’ve been saying Tingles and must have and everyone should ball out for him, but those trades perhaps the scenario where I’d depart from that.

      Good luck, Jack. Up to you.

  21. Hey Gunboat & lads, if you could just suggest me some ideas if you have time , unsure if I’m going mad but considering this trade

    I do feel as if Docherty will come good but just struggling with my team at the moment

    Docherty – Day
    Callaghan – LDU
    Philpou – van rooyen

    Is this a waste? Should I just be focusing on maybe downgrading Callaghan to Phillips or chandler?

    Current team (61k ITB)
    DEF – Sicily, Docherty, daicos, Gibney, Mckenna, Wilmot (constable, Cowan)

    MID – Oliver, Laird, Bont, Green, Hopper, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mckenzie (Uwland, Baker, Chesser )

    Ruck – Witts, Marshall (maden)

    FWD – Dunkley, Coniglio, Taranto, Sheezel, Philipou, Long (davey, Greene)

    Please comment any suggestions

    1. Hey, Hugh. Hope you’re well.

      Hmm. Tricky.

      Philli with a BE of 9 but, yeah, I see how it gets you LDU.

      Yep, I’d roll with those moves. Good stuff. You will need to freshen up your bench at some stage though. Constable, Uwland, Chesser all dead.

      1. i still see Docherty as a top 8 defender

        Do you think day just had a field day against a non existent north Melbourne midfield?

        I’ve already used a boost aswell (33 trades remaining, unsure if that changes your suggestion to me)

        1. Doch is still a Top 8 DEF and Day isn’t going to match him LT. Totally relished no LDU and Simpkin.

          But it gives you path to LDU.

          Say Doch snaps back into 110s:

          Doch (110) + Cally (65) = 175

          LDU (115) + Day (90) = 205

          I’m a fan of your proposed moves. If you’re not feeling it 100% though, don’t do it.

        2. I reckon it could be worth doing Callaghan and any of Uwland, Chesser or Constable (Maybe Chesser cause at least the other two have a chance of a game) out for Phillips and then one of JVR or Brockman. It’ll get you some cash and help out that dead bench. Hold Doch if you think he’ll finish top 8

    so…

    Cameron to English (Im so off starting Gawn then trading to Cameron. Thought of Grundy for a path to English but it has risk)

    Callgahn van roo

    Bont to Saad (yes I know..however def is chalked only other option is constable to Buckley with a path to saad)

    0

    0
    1. Bont to Saad costs you points and a C option.

      Cally -> van Rooyen (321k)
      Chesser/Constable -> Day
      D. Cam -> Grundy

      Get the appeal of grabbing Tingles but think taking dead rookie to Day is huge for your backline.

      2

      1. Thoughts on grundy after gawn returns? Do you think Grundy can average more than English and make 100-150k in the next 6 weeks? Because that would be an awesome option to then sideways trade to English

        0

        0
        1. Won’t average more than Tingles, no. But at 500k he’ll score well enough to be sideways-able to him when Gawn comes back.

    Looking at trading out Docherty and Cummins to Day and Buckley. Maybe Chesser to Phillips.

    I had a poor week last week. Thoughts?

    1. Cumming to Day and freshening up Chesser sounds good.

      Doch to Buckley only viable if you have an immediate plan for the cash. Doch can snap back into action and go back Top 6 scoring easily.

  25. Bit unsure which way to go here. Advice appreciated. $118900 itb.

    TU – Macrae > LDU (is his calf ok?)
    Cameron > Tingles
    Chesser > Phillips

    TD – Macrae > Oliver (I have Laird and Bont but no Oliver)
    Cameron > Grundy (Scores well until Grundy returns)
    Chesser > Phillips

    1. Not sure I’d still be trading Macrae so just depends how much cash you’ve got after Chesser to Phillips on whether to get Grundy or English

    No real injury issues. I’ve missed ziebell so far and was thinking of moving constable or worpel on but if may be too soon. I’ve used 4 trades so may just hold this week?

      Worpel and Brayshaw your real pain points.

    Thinking S.Darcy to English in one trade this week (Shrek just scares me now!). Unsure I want Grundy to then have to trade again to English in a few weeks during upgrade season (might need to Boost). English’s price is rising at the same time so that makes the cash grab from Grundy less attractive. Then Worpel to JVR next week. Need Oliver asap.
    Want to field Chandler this week v WCE. Who to bench – Worpel, Ashcroft or Mackenzie?
    Many thanks!

    1. I don’t really get trading Darcy out this week after he just put up the 132 if you held him after the 40. Wait for that to cycle out so his price isn’t completely flat then maybe trade but there’s a chance he just took a couple of weeks to get in rhythm

      1. Thanks for that Johnno.
        I had other priorities last round otherwise I would have traded Darcy. Very favourable match up against WCE helped my decision to hold. He had a great 1st half but I wasn’t convinced with the 40 point 2nd half against BJ Williams

  30. Fell off the pace last week due to my trades!
    Traded
    In Setterfield for Callaghan, Davies Uniake for Macrae & Cox in for Ridley.
    Wasn’t to know Setterfield & D-U both carrying a corkie- with Setterfield still touch and go this week.
    Decided Cox as I didn’t want to be like everybody else and get Daicos!
    Do I just bite the bullet- get rid of Cox and bring in Daicos-
    TU- yep- get over it- smart move
    TD- Stick with Cox- he’s cheaper and still might be top 5
