Game Chat – Essendon v Adelaide

Written by Motts on July 9 2021

Where and when: The Docklands at 7:50pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 8, 2020: Adelaide 8.11 (59) DEF BY Essendon 9.8 (62) at Adelaide Oval.

Last five: Essendon 2-3, Adelaide 1-4

Match Preview: When Tex went down early against The Lions last week, the Crows’ targets up front became Thilthorpe and Frampton. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Essendon faced the unenviable task of heading down the highway to play Geelong and were duly touched up to the tune of 7 goals. They’ll be better at Marvel and if Tex doesn’t play, you’d think they’d do this pretty easy.

Mottsy Watch:

Essendon
Merrett, Parish, Tippa
Adelaide
Laird, Crouch, Sloane
Mottsy’s Tip: Essendon by 20 points (tipping record 32/45).

  2. Evening all, I hope that you are travelling well and if you are in Sydney, stay safe and we are thinking of you.

Laird, Ridley and Langford in this. Just hoping Langford can surprize here. Like a lot of my team, just pray and hope.

All the best for the weekend.

    1. Hey, CT, and evening all.

Got Langford as well, along with Zerrett and Laird – agonizing over who to VC out of the latter. Leaning Zerrett just on the strength of the Dons and the venue, but could Keays give him a look?

      We’ll see.

Hoping for a close game either way.

      1. G’day GD.
Langford looked as though he would have scored well.

        Who did you eventually VC?

        Have a good weekend.

        1. Went with Zerrett, CT.

Looks to be slowing down, hoping he can power through to 140.

  3. Evening CT.

Yep I’m in Sydney lock down.

No time to complain just, looking forward tonights game.

So..I have Laird as VC ( Limited loops this week) and Ridley.

Without Tex as a focal point, the Crows look very young up front.
I think Ridley can really dominate tonight. 120 not out of the question.

I’m a little worried by Parish as a non owner. If Oliver went 200 on the Crows, on current form Parish could do anything. If its not Parish its got to be Merrett. He hasn’t really gone too crazy yet this year , maybe tonights the night.

Thanks again for all the current updates on the coaches box and Team news.

    Best of luck tonight.

I hope Langford can pull out a decent score for you.

    1. That’s no good FT. Stay safe then for you and yours, avoid any crowds, keep the mask on if have to go out and hopefully we have some good footy to focus on for you! … this Delta strain is no joke from what I’ve seen and you just have to walk through air that people may have breathed out in 5-10 mins earlier … so stay safe!

    2. Thanks FT, I hope everyone gains something from the coaches box.

Look after yourself during these worrisome times.

Langford was going well but injured.

I hope Laird goes huge in the last quarter for your VC selection.

      Have a good weekend.

    1. Dons need to sub you on, Wighty! Inject some zest and passion into the game!

In all seriousness, you guys should be murdering the Crows. They’re chronically short at both ends, idk how this isn’t a blood bath.

      Boring to watch.

  6. At the game and this is one of the flattest crowds I have ever been in.
It’s about 5 degrees outside and I think all the crowd know we should be about 10 goals in front by now.

Crows are not flash at all tonight and their effort is poor too

    2. Yeah, had tickets and was going to go with a Dons friend but we decided it was cold as balls. Pass.

      Happy with that decision lol.

  8. Langford subbed off. Hamstring tightness, don’t want to risk anything. A reverse Jeremy Cameron.

    1. They said it was precautionary as a result of tightness.

We’ll know more post game. CT and/or I will update.

8 day break, should be fine (fingers crossed).

    1. Yeah, wrapped with Zerrett.

Night dampened by Langford, but he got scaled nicely and should be alright.

      Also had Laird, tick.

Ridley 120 very nice for you, good stuff.
