Game Chat – Hawthorn v Fremantle

Written by Motts on July 10 2021

Where and when: UTAS at 1:45pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 4, 2021: Fremantle 13.18 (96) DEF Hawthorn 12.9 (81) at Optus Stadium.

Last five: Hawthorn 2-3, Fremantle 1-4

Match Preview: Despite some of their recent results, I really like the look of this Freo outfit. They’ve got a good blend of age/experience & youth/enthusiasm. They had one bad quarter against The Mighty Blues last week and were punished for it. The rest of the game they were great. They’ll need to bring that A-game for the full 4 quarters against The Hawks who lost to Port in Adelaide last week but knocked off the Giants at the MCG the week before. And we all know how much they enjoy playing on the Apple Isle…

Mottsy Watch:

Hawthorn
Tension in the coaches box.
Fremantle
Fyfe, Cerra, Sean Darcy (193 pts last week – Wow Wa Wee Wa!)
Mottsy’s Tip: Fremantle by 15 points (tipping record 32/45).

  1. Late Change – Blake Hardwick (hamstring tightness) has been replaced by Damon Greaves.

    Hawthorn Sub : Oliver Hanrahan

    Fremantle Sub : Connor Blakely

  2. Looking forward to this one.

These teams actually have quite a few SC relevant players.

On top of the one’s Motts named .( Tension in the Coaches box.. classic. )

    There’s..

    Brayshaw and Ryan

Titch and a few own Big Boy

As well as Jiath and rookies Brockman, Bramble and Walker.

Just Brayshaw for me today.. and Captain Saunders 😉

Freo really need to start kicking straight if there any chance.

At least I can watch, and not have to cheer on any non Freo players.

Good luck to all this wet and windy Saturday.

    Go Freo!

    1. Morning (well, early afternoon), FT.

No SC players for me here, just looking to enjoy a close one – but definitely wanting Darcy to go 150+ for Abs.

Have tipped the Hawks because its in Tassie.

      1. Cheers GD!

If he keeps it up for the run home will be very interesting to see who everyone starts next year!

  3. Fell 50k short of my planned Treacy/Thilthorpe trade to Grundy, and stupidly held Thilthorpe last night. Trying to finally fix my R2 nightmare.

    TU: Treacy/Sidebottom to Grundy/Sharp
    TD: Treacy/Heeney to Marshall/Sharp

  4. I’d like my hawks to win today but think Darcy with freos midfield might be a bit too strong for us. We normally play well in tassie however so think it’ll be close, go hawkers!

  6. Darcy FIRMLY in consideration for next year.

Traditional tap ruckman, works both ends, doesn’t have a second fiddle to contend with, surrounded by an elite midfield.

    1. He has been amazing, doing it all!

Dependant on the run home, think a Grundy / Darcy starting R1/R2 is looking very tempting

        1. Your partial to blame for me putting the VC on him ahaha! Hoping he keeps it up

Both nailed the VC this week it seems!

          1. We’re killing it!

Part of me feels like I VC’d Darcy too for co-signing your choice lol.

            Great stuff, Abs.

  8. Been forced to keep Cripps cause of always having another priority. If Bramble raises the bat, I’m hoping Cripps is a late out.

  9. Come on Brayshaw..

Big second half would be nice.

Can we hold our nerve in Nat’s 200th ?

  10. I’m not one to go the early crow, not after last week.

I can tell you as well as Darcy there’s some one I may start as a Cheap M5..

If Cerra leaves… welcome to my 2022 starting side.

    Calab Serong.

    He should be around $400K

Keep it up boys, we may need the percentage.

    Oh no I said it.

  11. CJ subbed out.
Two games in a row where I have had a player injured and subbed out, when they were doing well. Langford last night.

What a cruel game is supercoach.

  12. How the hell can I get Brambles Emg score!
I would have to bench Walsh or Jelly which is probably not the greatest idea lol.

      1. That did cross my mind.
If Bramble gets up to 125+ I might look at it. Will be a short window to make the call although I can’t see any post game scaling going too much in the Hawks favour from this one

    1. In the exact same situation. Walsh or Kelly?
Points on the board are points scored.
Walsh upside is what maybe an extra 20? Plus the O’Connor
      Ill be looping Walsh personally

  13. well – here’s an even bigger question – would you bench Dusty to take Bramble’s score??

    1. I absolutely would if I had the swing to be able to do it.
Brayshaw is my weakest Mid so would have been him if he wasnt playing already

      1. yep same here – sitting with Brayshaw on field – I can swap Danger and Dusty to bench Dusty … kind of seems unheard of!!!

  14. I think I need a drink, was tough to watch in lockdown…

Only plus is I’ll be getting brambles score at m8

  15. So i buggered up and set up jiath and bramble both for loophole but i only have 1 non playing rookie to be able to loop just 1 of them.
So obviously its gunna be Bramble, but that means jiaths score is stick on the bench with highmore on field.

Heres hoping highmore can hit a nice 90+ to make me feel better.

  16. Thanks for all those who put the TU on Darcy! Absolutely loved his first game in my side. Will be a great POD though still think Grundy could outscore him this week matched up on Chol.

Wasn’t as smart as Abs though as I’d put my vc on parish last night.

  17. Who would’ve thought bramble would go 119! Looks like Taranto is taking a seat on the pine this week and AFyfe is getting a crack onfield.

Watch the supercoach gods laugh in my face and let Taranto go 140+ haha

  18. Can we all collectively admit there’s something very funny going on with sc scoring this year?

Brayshaw: 32 touches, 9 marks, 3 tackles, 81% disposal efficiency, 9 contested possessions, only 1 FA and 2 clangers … for 91 points??? Wtf

    1. I’d love to know what has happened here Jimbo. I’m also a brayshaw owner. Something very fishy going on here and who at supercoach HQ owns Darcy??

    2. Most of his disposals came in the second half (last quarter) particularly when the game was well over. Didn’t have an impact on the game at all really from what I saw.
