Game Chat – Gold Coast v Richmond

Written by Motts on July 1 2021

Where and when: Carrara at 7:20pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 12, 2020: Richmond 8.5 (53) DEF Gold Coast 4.8 (32) at The Gabba.

Last five: Gold Coast 1-4, Richmond 2-3

Match Preview: Anyone else questioning whether the Tigers Dynasty has run its course? They’ve dropped games to teams this year that the 2020 version would’ve smashed culminating in last Friday night’s humiliation against The Saints. Dusty has now become the only man in history to have more Norm Smith Medals than his team has kicked goals in a game. They’ll be very happy to be playing The Suns this week but with Miller in great form and Rowell back on the park, Gold Coast won’t be a pushover playing at home.

Mottsy Watch:

Gold Coast
Miller, Rowell, Ellis (against his old club)Not
Richmond
Martin, Short, Lynch (against his old club)
Mottsy’s Tip: Richmond by 20 points (tipping record 31/42).

  2. A must win in my H2H this weekend… First trade locked in: Weightman to Dangerfield.

Had planned on doing Poulter to Bramble, but with the Neale news I looked to shift him to a fellow premo to maximise my chances of a win.

    First question:

TU: Poulter to Bramble. Keep Neale, bank coin for next week.
TD: Sideways Neale to one of the below premos in the comments

    10 trades remaining

    1. Maybe hold onto Neale, FT?

Named v Crows, not officially ruled out. Even if he is a late withdrawal (as I’m expecting), shouldn’t be that long a turn around.

VC Miller, Short and Dusty for me here.

      1. Hey GD

        I actually don’t own Neale.

If I did I would be holding for sure.

Even if he is somehow a late out, I still think it can’t be to serious if they named him. He’s a tough little bugger and will probably play.

Short, Dusty and CCJ in this one for me.

God I hope the Suns give it to the Tigers.

Nothing personal with Richmond, I just wanna make finals 😉

  3. Either feel like suns eek out a close win in this one or lost by 75 points, should be a wacky thursday night.

  4. With Greenwood out Richmond Mids will run Amok – is Dusty worth a VC?
Richmond are desperate for a win and %

    1. I thought before the match whether to loophole CCJ but didn’t.
I fully expected him to comfortably outscore Treacy
Mmmmm…..not looking real good at the moment.

      1. That’s a harsh way to learn a valuable lesson.

        If you can loophole, loophole.

        No reason not to.

  6. Lynch has destroyed any opportunity for CCJ to be impactful. He’s a must trade now as long as Lynch is dominating the Tigers fwd time.

    1. Even when they put CCJ in ruck he looks terrible. Fingers crossed he might drill a few goals in second half to score something resembling respectable.

  8. Geez I’m so over supercoach this year, starting to just want my season to finish so I can just enjoy the footy again.

  9. geez Miller is certainly a favourite with CD this year isn’t he … getting some very good effective scoring …

    1. I was hoping to keep CCJ with limited trades left.
At least we have footy to watch in covid lockdown. Strange lockdown here on the GC. Stay at home orders & only essential shopping, food, medical etc but surfshops & even a gel blaster shop is open!

          1. There he is!

Congrats though, great performance. Tigers at the G, irregardless of form, always a tough task.

            1. Yeah, amazed by that performance, only wish we could kick straight and have won by 10 goals.

Btw, is it still mathematically possible to make the eight from here?

              1. Argh, probably not.

Even if you win all of your remaining 7 games (+28 points), you’d end up on 48 – and still need heaps of results to go your way.

Cut off for the eight either 52 or a high percentage 48.

Would love for it to somehow happen, but think next year you guys will finally have a good run at it.

    1. nice GD … and its a bonus that CD are giving him some Bont type effective scoring at times too … been a good pick up for those that have him.

Every year there is a player that CD love to reward … Miller seems to be that player this year.

      1. Respectfully disagree – and not just because I own him:

36 touches, 15 contested, 9 clearances, 7 tackles, 7 marks, an intercept, heaps of score involvements and 77% DE.

        Those stats are a 150.

True his scoring kept ticking up, but CD were likely catching up and was getting involved.

        1. that’s my point though … he got some favourable calls on CP’s at times … whilst “doing the Bont” thing and “just near the ball …” … not what I would call a CP. Similarly some of his disposals recorded as effective, yet other players throughout the year they go down as ineffective for the same sort of kick / disposal..
          and FYI – clearances aren’t scored …

    1. Great thanks CT, this was the one i needed. Was basing my last upgrades with CCJ worth 25-30k more, not down 5k. Makes a lot of difference.

      2. Yeah, I was hoping to bring in Danger and Grundy with one downgrade – I needed a couple things to go my way (Grundy and Danger don’t go off, plus my three rookies make some cash). It now looks like I’ll be about 25k short and have to make two downgrades.
