Game Chat – Hawthorn v Essendon

Written by Father Dougal on June 20 2021

Where and When: 3:20pm at the University of Tasmania Stadium

What it means for the Hawks:   A win probably makes their draft position worse.

What it means for the Bombers: A win should see them in tenth, and that is within striking distance of finals. A loss makes finals a lot harder.

Supercoach Watch:

Hawks: Impey, Jiath, Titich,  Koschitzke,  Phillips still maybe.

Bombers: Merrett, Ridley, Not Waterman, Cox, Nick Hind, Heppel, Jones, Perkins and Parish!

Father Dougal’s Watch:  Jai Newcomb. Will he play. Gosh we hepe. How will he play?

Father Dougal’s Tip:  Well, Hawks are tough in Tassie, but bombers by 6 anyways

  1. Afternoon, all.

Zerrett, Langford, Nuke and Bramble to close it out for me. Will hit 1700 if they combine for 356.

Also, if Ceglar could play terribly so Reeves could come back in, that’d be great.

    1. Hey GD.

Ridler, Newcombe and either Impey or trade him to Langford.

I’m not sure if its worth pulling the trigger.

If Merrett and Mitchell both pop off, I’m likely to sink hard in the rankings this week.

Good luck with getting to 1700 plus, With 15 on field, I’m hoping to make my projected 1554.

      1. Hey, FT.

Yeah, I voted T.U on the Impey -> Langford trade. You’ve had your eye on him for a bit.

Good luck which ever way you go.

        1. Thanks mate.

I ended up going Haynes and Hall. I just couldn’t trade in Toby. He would have been fun to watch with that torp though. Hall started very slow but showed late what all the fuss is about. Haynes also looked good. If Ridley doesn’t improve in a few weeks, and no one else goes down. I may look at trading him to a fallen Premo Mid.

Yeah I think I will trade in Langford. I can’t see Impey returning to his old role with Day back, and Scrimshaw doing quite well.

          Welcome to the team Kyle.

          Best of luck.

            1. Wa-oh.

Yeah, like I said below Dons just feeding the Hawks HB line. Need them to clean up their use for Impey and Jiath to pipe down.

  2. Debating as to whether I should trade out Waterman for Bramble at the last minute. Doesn’t really do much for my leagues and I anticipated a ranking hit in this round regardless (only the 15 playing). I’m inclined to just leave it and see how the new kid goes. If he fares well I’ll bring him in next week for 1 up 1 down.

    T/U Do it
T/D Hold off and assess next week. Cheers

  3. Impey to Langford ?

Impey projected 74 and likely to lose >$25K this week.

Langford projected 104 is most likely going to go up $30K.

    So its now or never.

This will leave me 6 trades and just the one Forward upgrade.
    ( most likely Danger )

    would you do it?

T/U Hell yeah , Impey is no longer a good pick.

T/U Hold fire. Trades are gold and Impey will come good.

    Thanks folks 🙂

  4. It’s a 50/50 game for me. But should win if I trade Jordon – Merrett. It also completes my team – but with no decent mid bench. Do I go for it, or wait a week and keep Jordon on the bench?

  5. Any hawks fans with any insight on where O’Brien and McEvoy will be playing? O’Brien forward and McEvoy back? Or the other way around? (Asking for a mates multi lol)

  6. Dons just feeding Jiath and Impey with their heinous use.

Ham and Stringer seem to have dislodged Langford from a few CBs. Hopefully he still gets a decent load (15+).

    1. Dislodged because not a good footballer as far as AFL is concerned he’d be very good at VFL and an absolute gun in QLD suburban leagues but at AFL he just isn’t good enough. 16 disposals to 3/4 time 5 of them clangers and 6 of them turnovers. Glad you traded him in 🙂

  8. Man this just tops off a bad weekend for me in SuperCoach. Nobody getting their projected. So long top 5000. Bye rounds suck! lol

  9. Langford looking like a trap for those that bit and brought him in.

Newcombe this week is exactly why you wait the extra week to wait and see on rookies. Luckily he’s only a $100K rookie so going early on him won’t hurt too badly but he looks completely lost this game compared to last week and wouldn’t be surprised if he gets axed back to the VFL.

  10. I did not want Draper to have such a great game as I was looking to him to fix my ruck issues.
Was looking to trade Treacy or CCJ to him in a couple of weeks as they have more $’s to make but I think this plan is stuffed.
Maybe trade out Reeves without him playing a game.
    The conundrum that is Supercoach

  11. Glad I stayed away from Langford this week. Hind is looking like a good upgrade option, not sure why he doesn’t get talked about more here.

  12. If you couldn’t guess already Stringer is out of contract at the end of 2021 and is rumored to be seeking $750k per year over 4 years

    1. Was very surprised wighty with the crowd, never seen us been booed in tassie!

Congrats on a win (perhaps a bit fortunate) but when you kick straight it makes a difference!

  13. Collectively my 17 players this week went 300 under their season average with L Jones the only injury. This is a tough first year.

  15. Devon Smith will be a flag winner one day, just watch. Unfortunately it will be for the opposition with his lack of discipline 🙁
