Game Chat – Port Adelaide vs Essendon

Written by Thommo on March 27 2021

Where and when: Adelaide Oval, Saturday 27th April 2021 at 4:35pm (AEDT)

Last time they met: R17, 2020: Port Adelaide 11.13 (79) def Essendon 4.5 (29)

The rain saved the Bombers from an even bigger flogging! Despite the rain, Port kicked 5 second-quarter goals to put this match to bed early. Rockliff, Boak and Wines dominated the clearances while only Ridley could hold his head up for the Bombers with 23 possessions and 4 marks. We know Port pushed deep into the finals but this match nailed the final coffin into Essendon’s season.

Match Preview: Despite both Geelong and Brisbane suffering upset losses last week, I still can’t see any way the Bombers can repeat the dose and upset Port. The Power are playing like they are in a mood after coming so close to a Grand Final in 2020 and they are laden with enough talent to record another big win at home. This will be big home win for Port Adelaide.

Thommo watch:

Port Adelaide
Congratulations if you selected Boak – it looks like he should clean up again today for you! Bergman gets another chance to lock down his spot in the team while a few thrill-seekers will be hoping for another 4 goals by Orazio against his old teammates.
Essendon
They might be a disappointment to their fans but they certainly have some Supercoach talent! Merrett, McGrath, Ridley, Caldwell and even Draper feature in many Supercoach sides who will be praying for a decent score in a tough match-up.
Thommo’s Tip: Port by 50 points.

  4. Wighty – you and “your boy Harry Jones” – seriously, it looks like he is afraid of leather poisoning.

Barely on the field and when he is, no intensity, no effort at all. Looks lost on the field.

  6. Had a shocking start to the round with maynard and then neale as captain. But geez its turning around today. Loving what butters has produced for me so far. Could of had a great score if I nailed the captain choice. Still looking to be around 2200 which is alot better than i was expecting prior to todays games.

  7. I don’t feel sorry for anybody who fell into the draper trap. It’s only his 2nd year so it’s their own fault

  8. I wouldn’t be jumping the gun on Butters. No doubt he is a great young player but Essendon are going to a make a lot of their opponents look elite this season.

  9. Sam Draper and Scott Lycett both being checked for injuries at the third break.

    Lycett good to go
Draper still has his boot off OUT of game. Ankle iced up.
