Out: A.Peace (Leg), C.Pearce (Concussion), Clarke (Omitted), Hughes (Calf), Mundy (Calf)

Game Notes: Just as North Melbourne had to lose sometime, doesn’t Freo have to win at some point? You would think when they do it’ll be at Domain Stadium though. The Saints have been playing some good footy this season, despite winning just the three games thus far. I’ll back another loss to the Dockers here.

The 6 Points

1. The Dockers’ midfield was the difference last time these sides played. Lachie Neale had 36 disposals, David Mundy 33 and Stephen Hill 29.

2. St Kilda will be aiming for consecutive wins for the first time since the first two rounds of 2014. Fremantle has lost its past 10 games, which has not happened since the first half of 2001.

3. St Kilda and Fremantle meet for the 32nd time. The Saints hold a narrow advantage, winning 17 games to 14. Under Ross Lyon though, the Dockers have won three of five clashes.

4. Fremantle is the worst side this season for taking the ball inside 50, averaging only 45.2 entries per game. St Kilda is ranked 11th, with 51.6 per game.

5. In the Saints’ favour is their record against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium. Of the 10 matches between the two clubs at the ground, St Kilda has eight wins.

6. Saints midfielder Seb Ross was the competition’s third-highest scorer in the Schick AFL Player Ratings last week, with 27.2 points.

MJ’s Tip: Saints by 18 points.

    1. He’s been on the bench for more than half of the first quarter, and when he was on Freo weren’t touching the bal.

      1. Wasn’t watching the game but if Barlow wasn’t injured and if that’s not tanking, then I don’t know what is.

        1. Just bad luck, started on the bench then came back off at the 20 min mark and couldn’t get on cos the quarter was almost over. Spent a lot of time on in the 2nd and scored well

  3. So Barlow is off the field in the first quarter and Freo are getting nailed
Barlow is on in the second quarter, gets ten touches and Freo are down by only a point at half time?
Can I be an AFL coach?

  4. Who to trade in

    T/U Boyd +43K
You wouldn’t think Boyd will get another rest after the bye???
    T/D Bartel +100K
Bartel fits my bye stricture better but isn’t as consistent as Boyd plus Bartel will probably get rested at some stage

Game Chat – St Kilda v Fremantle

Written by Thommo on August 9 2015

On paper Fremantle should win this game by lots. However in one of the quirks of AFL football, Fremantle do not match-up well with the Saints and it doesn’t seem to matter where the teams sit on the ladder. This culminated in the Saints handing Fremantle a 58 point hiding at Etihad Stadium last year.

With the return of St Kilda’s captain, Nick Riewoldt and the persistent groin troubles of Nat Fyfe, this match is looking likely to throw up another upset. The loss of Zac Dawson will further weaken the Dockers’ back-line (I just managed to keep a straight face).

Congratulations to one of the most underrated defenders Sean Dempster on game 200.

Thommo’s tip: St Kilda by 12 points.
