Game Chat – Western Bulldogs v Brisbane

Written by Motts on April 10 2021

Where and when: Mars Stadium, Ballarat, 1:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: R11 2020: Brisbane 14.12 (96) DEF Western Bulldogs 11.6 (72) at The Gabba.

ERIC Hipwood kicked five goals and lead Brisbane past the Western Bulldogs with an powerful 24-point win at the Gabba. The lanky forward was a match-up nightmare for the Dogs, with recalled defender Ryan Gardner unable to contain him in the air and panicked into giving away free kicks. While Hipwood shone, he was the beneficiary of some silver service from a Brisbane midfield that outplayed their much-vaunted Bulldogs counterparts. The on-ball triumvirate of Lachie Neale (36 disposals and 12 clearances), Jarryd Lyons (26 and eight) and Dayne Zorko (24 and nine) had field days, being hugely influential when the game was up for grabs. Jack Macrae (40 disposals and a goal) produced another wonderful performance, while Marcus Bontempelli (30) also tried hard.

Match Preview: These two teams come into this game off two very different wins. The Dogs sit atop the ladder after crucifying the Roos by 21 goals last week. While the Lions eked out their first win of the season with an after-the-siren kick that netted them a 1-point win over the luckless Pies. Look for a hard tag to go to Neale – Bevo’s no idiot, he would’ve seen the results from the first few weeks and will be wary of Lachie carving his side up again.

Motts Watch:

Western Bulldogs
The usual suspects here: Dunkley, Macrae, and Daniel (who I have) and Bont (who I don’t). Also watching Ant Scott to see if he can jump up into the 80’s (unlikely in that midfield I know but we live in hope).

Brisbane
How is it that I don’t have any Lions in my SC squad? I guess it’ll be Neale to see if he can break the chains and return to form but without him in my team, I’ll be secretly hoping he doesn’t and his price drops again.

Mottsy’s Tip: Bulldogs by 30. (Current tipping record 8 from 11)

  1. LATE CHANGE

The Dogs have brought in defender Lewis Young in place of Pat Lipinski, who is the medical sub.

      1. One of many Ch10, sports news reports last night, still has “slight” back soreness and interview with coach “He’s feeling much better” and should be fine….IMO.Murphy’s Law take a guess.

  2. Down to 24 trades… injuries… corrective trades for rookies I missed out on,

I’ll be down to 23 or 22 next week.

It’s gonna be a long season!

    VC on Macrae.

      1. 3-4 weeks
John Longmire: “He’s got a crack in his hand, so it’s three 3 or 4 weeks, I guess. But I’m not sure what the official diagnosis is.”

        1. Sadly looks like long enough for a trade, so that probably means he buys me Grundy next week.

        2. Thanks CT – gotta feel for him, seems he can’t get a good run the past 2-3 years. Also sucks I’ll have to make another injury trade.

    1. Vc on Dunks. I wanted to take the punto on Walker again but have no guaranteed donut for that yet.

Looking like it’s paying off so far.

    1. I think I started with him last year but he only got the round 1 start, so here’s hoping he can solidify a spot so we have another downgrade target.

  3. I know Daniel is small but hardly seen him! Gotta post a 100+ otherwise you’re on the chopping block!!!

  4. The way this game is going, my supercoach team is looking to retire. Coming into half time Daniel only just reaching double figures in SC points and Daniher in negatives. Really hoping they fix this in the 2nd half

    1. Actually he is on -2, so currently losing money
Fanfooty gives all SC scores plus 1 as you can see the sub appears to be scoring 1 yet hasn’t stepped on the field

      1. Oh no -2 that’s twice as bad as I thought. If he actually does something constructive ie take a mark, kick the ball etc etc he may possibly make his break even.

  5. Any reasons for the Daniel no show 2 weeks running??
Need a lift Caleb you’re supposed to be a lock for top 6 scoring defenders!!

      1. Not really. Score flattered him last week.

He was my last premo into the side and one I’m regretting. I almost tossed him this week. Wishing I had.

It was him or Houston. Geez I got that wrong.

He’s looked completely unconvincing so far this season.

  6. Caleb Daniel may be my first premium trade next week .
A score of minimum 85 required fie me to hold

    1. Daniel to Macrae
Top 10 defender ? to top 3 mid next week puts trade in perspective .
However would need to trade Chapman to Dow this week to facilitate trade .

  7. Neale isn’t even a must-trade because of his decreasing price anymore, you genuinely don’t know if he’ll average 110+ this season. Looking like a Cripps 2019 to 2020 type scoring drop.

  8. Daniel and Daniher with their lovely 20 and 25. Just need them to keep it up for the next 3 quarters…… Oh wait it is full time! Ah my luck this year is dreadful

    1. Just woke up to see their scores, at least I don’t have them…………..in my tech team.

      Sigh, back to bed!

  9. What would you do?

TU- take Macrae’s VC score (127)
    TD- Captain Grundy against GWS.

    Cheers.

EDIT: sorry for the double up question. Just realised the same question has been asked above.

  10. The Game may not have been played on Mars, but I think Joe Daniher and Caleb Daniel were there.

  11. Dog’s defence is steady, however their Mid unit is ripping teams a new one & pumping it up forward mostly & they pepper at goals. Caleb is getting limited kick-ins, can’t see it changing anytime soon, rotations are second to none.
