GOLD COAST

GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull-

Charlie Ballard has been cleared of injury following a pair of incidents in the Round 8. “Charlie passed his concussion test at halftime, then had another collision in the final quarter with contact to his neck,” “We wanted to be cautious with Charlie’s neck taking him off the ground, but after further assessment he has responded well and we expect him to train fully this week to be available for selection for Friday.”

Jed Anderson missed the VFL match on the weekend with hamstring tightness but is expected to train fully this week and be available for selection.

Ben Ainsworth Quad Test “Ben missed the game on the weekend with a corked quad but is progressing well and will be tested later in the week before a call is made on his availability.”

Nick Holman Toe Test “Nick has been managing a toe injury over the last week which we will continue to monitor before deciding his availability for Round 9.”

Lachie Weller Knee TBA “Lachie has been experiencing some discomfort in his knee after the Richmond game, so we’ve taken a conservative approach given his ACL injury last year and won’t risk him this week, but will continue to monitor his progress,”

HAWTHORN

Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge-

Josh Ward is set to miss at least a week after experiencing some soreness in his foot during training on Tuesday.

“Josh today reported some soreness in his foot during the middle of training and subsequently we sent him for scans,” Burge said.

“We’ve since got the results and he has got what we call a ‘bone overload’, there was a little bit of signal on his scans, but certainly nothing too significant.

“We’ve caught it very, very early and what that means is he won’t play this weekend, but we’re in a position where we can reassess next week.

“It’s not a long-term injury by any means, more short-term.”

Emerson Jeka is also set to spend at least a month on the sidelines after he sustained a hamstring injury during Box Hill’s game last weekend.

“It’s unfortunate given that he’s just come back from a similar injury. But it’s his other leg, not the same side as the most recent one,” .

“He’ll be back into a rehabilitation phase, at this stage we’re not putting a timeline on it, but it would be no less than a month I would think.”

Jai Serong is expected to return next round to be available for selection after being diagnosed with pericarditis.

“He’s going fantastically well, he did full training today and the end of last week,” Burge said.

“He has been doing some extra conditioning to progress quickly back into game play.

“If there was a VFL game this week, he would most likely be available.”

NORTH MELBOURNE

Head of performance Kevin White –

Tom Powell ankle sprain “He (Tom) was sore last week but has turned a corner over the weekend and has had two running sessions with direction changing,” “We’ll assess his function at training on Thursday, but he’s looking likely to return this week which is good news for Tom.”

Josh Goater hamstring strain “He’s cleared all this testing that we had from a strength measurement point of view with his hamstring and as long as he ticks off his speed metrics and fully trains Thursday, he’ll be available to play this week,”

George Wardlaw “George was probably a day or two shy of getting up for the VFL game on the weekend,” “He was still pretty sore with that knee bruising he suffered last week. He had a good session on Tuesday … and he’ll fully train on Thursday to be available for the weekend.”

Aiden Bonar quad “Aiden had a bit of quad tightness in his kicking leg on Sunday during the VFL game,” “We took a conservative approach with him and he had a scan which showed a really low-grade strain, but he had a really good function session on Tuesday out on the ground.”

Jackson Archer“Jackson had some groin soreness couple of weeks ago that we were managing, and we felt from a high performance program that it would be best that he took two or three weeks out just to get some of his strength measurements up in the gym.”At the minute, ‘Jacko’ will probably remain in a conditioning program over the next week or two to build that strength.”

Callum Coleman-Jones will be available for selection after progressing through the concussion protocols.

PORT ADELAIDE

Kane Farrell – cheekbone (test)
Scott Lycett – back (test) was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s SANFL match after failing to complete a full training session on Friday. The ruckman was experiencing lingering lower back pain following an incident the game prior, and will be assessed further this week.

Tom Jonas suffered a blow to the chest during Sunday’s game, left the ground during the third quarter after enduring a knock to the chest and was subsequently subbed out of the match with ongoing discomfort. The backman is expected to be available for selection this Saturday
Orazio Fantasia – quad (2-3 weeks)  is back running, with his quad strain progressing well.
Xavier Duursma – PCL (7-9 weeks)
Mitch Georgiades – ACL (season) has undergone a successful surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament

Zak Butters suffered a corky in the final term, but was able to return to the ground.

RICHMOND

Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan

Josh Gibcus, hamstring

“It’s been a long time, Josh has had a few setbacks with his wound. Things have been really good the last four-to-six weeks, he’s put in a really good block. All things being good and he trains this week, he’ll be available for some minutes in the VFL this Saturday, which will be exciting.”

Ivan Soldo, foot

“Ivan’s dealing with a pretty tricky foot problem. He’s a test for later this week. We’re hoping things progress really well, and if he gets through some work later in the week, he’ll be available. But, we’ll have to see where it’s at.”

Toby Nankervis, ankle

“Toby’s going really well which is great. He’s working really hard, as everyone would expect. We’re hoping to get him involved in a little bit of football this week, and all things being good, available next week possibly, but definitely the week after.”

Maurice Rioli, hamstring

“He’s going really well, it’s been a couple of weeks now and he’s running really well. We have to be really careful, everyone knows how explosive Maurice is. So, we’ll make sure we get this right, (even) if we have to take a little bit longer than we expected when we started, but he’s going really well at the moment.”

Tom Lynch, foot

“Tom’s moved out of his moon boot which is really pleasing. He’s going to see his specialist next week. Once he sees him, we’ll start to formulate a plan for his return to running and then eventually football, but he’s still a while away unfortunately.”

Robbie Tarrant, hip

“Robbie’s had a really good couple of weeks. Last Saturday in the wet out here he had a great session, so he’s putting together some good work. We’re going to ramp up the football and see how we go, but it’s really positive at the moment and we’re hoping to get him back into some footy soon.”

Mate Colina, back

“We’ve actually seen some specialists outside of the footy club with Mate. He’s in a period now where we haven’t been doing any work, we actually gave him some time away from the club. He’s coming back in this week, so we’ll get our eyes on him and start formulating a plan back from there.”

Kaleb Smith, ankle

“This is a tricky injury, things stagnated a little bit with Kaleb. But, he’s a really positive kid and working really hard. We’ve seen some specialists outside of the Club and we’re hoping to get him going again in a couple of weeks. We’re a little bit unsure with how it’s going to go, but he’s working really hard and hopefully we’ll see him soon.”

Seth Campbell, adductor

“Seth’s had a really stop-start year unfortunately. We made the decision a couple of weeks ago to take him out of the footy program again and really work on his strength and things have progressed really well since then. We’re hoping after another week or two of de-loading, we’ll get him back into the program.”

Tom Brown, wrist

“Tom’s been working really hard. Obviously, he’s been able to run the whole time he’s been injured and he’s been working really hard on his fitness. He goes to see a specialist next week and hopefully gets the all clear to resume footy after that, and we’ll be seeing Tom really soon which will be pleasing.”
