Report by Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper

Paddy McCartin
Paddy is doing well in the early stages of his recovery. He still has some residual symptoms which are not unexpected. He will be monitored closely in accordance with the AFL’s HIA protocols.

Tom McCartin
Tom is also doing well in his recovery but will miss the match against Richmond after entering the AFL’s HIA protocols. He will continue to be monitored closely.

Lance Franklin
Lance completed the game against Port Adelaide but suffered a knock to the knee in the last quarter. He has been unable to train this week due to his knee soreness and will not play against Richmond this weekend.

Lewis Melican
Lewis is progressing well in his rehabilitation from a low grade adductor strain. He is completing introductory team skills, and we expect him to train fully next week.

Ryan Clarke
Ryan completed full team training last week and is expected to be available for selection this week.

Sam Reid
Sam’s rehabilitation has failed to progress over the last fortnight due to pain in his hamstring tendon. After further investigations and consultations with external specialist, Sam will now not run for 4 weeks and we don’t expect him to return to play before the midseason bye.

Tom Hickey
Tom completed modified team skills last week, and will reintegrate in to match play this week. We expect him to be available for selection in the next 1 – 2 weeks.

Jacob Konstanty
Jacob was reintroduced to team skills last week. He is planned to commence full training this week with an expected return in the next fortnight.

Sam Wicks
Sam is now 8 weeks after his shoulder surgery. He has increased his gym based strength exercises and will aim to recommence contact drills in the next fortnight.

    1. Yes, Docherty will miss 4-6 weeks after scans revealed a meniscus tear in his knee.

I posted this update in the Coaches box earlier but thank you, Tim for posting it here.

  1. Fremantle: Luke Ryan looked really sore with a right knee issue and appeared to be doing a fitness test with knee heavily strapped. One to watch ahead of Friday.

Uncapped tall Josh Draper his likely replacement if he doesn’t get him.

  2. According to the injury report on Melbourne’s website, their injury list states Max Gawn is estimated to return in 1-2 weeks.
    Slight concern for Grundy owners

    1. Gold Coast website: “Witts was a late withdrawal from the Round 4 match against St Kilda after battling general soreness and will be a test for this weekend’s Gather Round match against Fremantle at Norwood Oval.”

      1. Stuart Dew on Jarrod Witts.

“It’s one of those things that’s hard to put a timeline on,”

“He’s been a bit sore all year and it’s just managing that.
“Some games he’s felt really good, and other games he’s worked really hard to get through.

“We were just trying to get a bit of a circuit-breaker last week, give him that week off and see what impact that had on him.

“We anticipate when we bring him back in, he’s at a really good level and not as sore as he has been.”
“We know it’s a long year … we won’t risk him.”

Dew said having last week’s debutant Ned Moyle available made any decision to rest Witts much easier.

  3. why ldu on injury list here and on afl site not there has he got a calf or is that from last week
