The Match Review Officer has decided on four charges for round one. (excluding Sundays games, which will be updated if anything arises)

Kysaiah Pickett has been offered a two-match ban for his bump on Western Bulldogs  Bailey Smith on Saturday night.

The Match Review Officer graded Pickett’s bump as careless conduct, high impact and high contact, leading to the two-game ban.

Lance Franklin‘s bump on Gold Coast Sam Collins during the final quarter  was adjudged careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, triggering a one-game ban.

West Coast’s Tom Barrass has escaped suspension for his striking offence on North Melbourne’s Charlie Comben, which was graded careless and medium impact to the body. The Eagle can accept a $2000 fine with an early guilty plea.

Port Adelaide’s Darcy Byrne-Jones has copped a $1500 fine for tripping Zac Bailey during the Power’s win over Brisbane on Saturday, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early plea.

  1. So if you run flat chat at someone and jump at their shoulder head region, tucking your arms in, turning your body into a battering ram without any thought of tackling or smothering, its careless conduct? That is complete crud. It was a deliberate act and should be adjudicated as such. Picket got off two weeks light.

And McAdam? No report? Or is that still in the pipeline?

      1. The hit was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact, which means McAdam will face the Tribunal and faces a ban of three matches or more.

  2. Ah round 1 and MRO continuing on with its inconsistent decisions.
Something needs to be done about this, but nothing will sadly

  3. Shane McAdam suspended for 3 Games.

The hit on Jacob Wehr was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

Tribunal Chairman Jeff Gleeson said McAdam’s decision to bump at considerable speed was unreasonable. He described the act as careless and refuted any notion the contact was not high.

“The potential for injury, and serious injury, was very high,” Gleeson said.

“We regard this as severe impact. We impose a sanction of three weeks suspension.”

  4. so the NRL gives Kaufusi 4 weeks and the AFL gives McAdam 3 and Pickett 2 – there is something seriously wrong with the AFL tribunal somewhere

    1. Exactly – you can imagine the plaintiffs’ lawyers in the concussion suits giggling all the way to the bank!

  5. Shane McAdam’s attempt to have his three-match suspension overturned has failed.

The AFL Tribunal Appeals Board has agreed with MRO Michael Christian and the Tribunal’s decision on Tuesday night that found him guilty of rough conduct on Giant Jacob Wehr.

The Appeals Board said there was no error in law and the grading of impact as severe was not “manifestly excessive’ as argued by the Crows.

He’ll miss matches against Richmond, Port Adelaide and Fremantle.
