  1. Any day of the week Rioli’s hit on Rowell should be more than 1 week. He intentionally jumped off the ground to hit Rowell front on, in the head, collarbone and shoulders with his hip, and had no eye on the ball, and hands not even attempting to spoil or mark. I am surprised Rowell got up at all without concussion or a broken collarbone.

  2. Willie Rioli’s ban has been overturned.

“The Tribunal is not satisfied the player engaged in rough conduct. Incidents such as this, where the question revolves around whether and how the player is contesting the ball are not easy.

“The Tribunal will be astute to uphold any charge where a player was initially intending to contest the ball, changed that intention and in doing so breached his duty of care. That is not this case.

“Willie Rioli had eyes for the ball as he entered this contest. There is no doubt he braced for contact a split second before contact, but when doing so, did not cease to contest the ball. The way in which he did so was not unreasonable.”

  3. Mitch Robinson’s one-match ban stands.
The Tribunal finds that Robinson committed the reportable offence of forcible front-on contact … the Tribunal is not satisfied Robinson was contesting the ball at the moment of impact.
