A great many Gawn owners are currently shopping for a replacement. If you’re one of those who either doesn’t have him or is planning to hold him, just pretend you have Gawn, and that you have decided to trade him. Who do you think is the best replacement?

  1. I’m planning to bring Gawn back if/once he is fit and has played a couple of games so his price bottoms out. Meanwhile, I am running with Grundy and the rookie combo of Draper and D.Cameron. I have a non-playing 123k Ruc/fwd so I can swing Cameron and loophole on either line. Using the funds from Gawn to bring in another premo mid to minimise point impact.

    1. Great strategy. I swapped him to Goldy and still have Grundy cause I’m in a big cash league but if he plays a couple of rds ok, bottoms out, Goldy bye, he’s back. Bye rds have been kind for this strategy.

  2. Problem trading out Gawn is there isn’t really many ruck to bring in that have had their bye. Nic Nat is an option, but have to hope his body holds and isn’t rested. He has spent more TOG% in his last few games which is positive.
Trying to have a rookie cover for Gawn, takes on the risk Gawn plays next week and plays at 100%
Trying to bring in Goldy or English just adds another to the Rd 15 bye

    1. Even if he returns next week, it is likely his workload would be managed over the next set of compressed rounds so wouldn’t count on his usual monster scores. His BE is 240 so his price will drop significantly for at least 2 weeks after he returns. Hoping he could be a juicy upgrade target for Rd16 when Grundy has his bye. Just another twist in this crazy 2020 season!

    1. 8 games with 6 under 70, but his last 3 is 138,64,97 with the 64 against Grundy. Big risk going with him

      1. Yer definitely a big risk but I think the price and upside could be worth it. He is by far the cheapest option that could give reasonable scores for the year

  3. If you’re smart you trade Gawn out for The Chol Patrol, use the money to buy Dustin Martin and Baker and you’re set!

  4. I plan on holding gawn. This will be a week to week assessment. Im first and third in my leagues so If I start to lose games and ladder position then I will be forced to trade. For now I have Grundy and Draper in the ruck. Hope the big man is back next week.

  5. Gawn cannot go down in price if he does not play is that correct, if that is the case might save the trade a rotate D Cameron into that spot, trade Gawn when he returns. What round does the SC finals start.

    1. I thought it was rd 14, looks like rd15 now although no h2h matches available for rd14. Just sit back and wait for the answers I guess.

      1. yep makes it a bit harder to trade or not trade if we don’t know the bigger picture, just sit back and wait as you say.

  6. R15 is confirmed as a non H2H round finals starting round 14.

Does this make nicnat more valuable if playing for leagues? I believe this puts nicnat and Goldy back on a level playing field.. Nicnat still #1 if your playing for rank but I am not this year

    TU : Goldy

    TD : nicnat

  7. I haven’t had much sleep and now I’m thinking of going McInerney, which would allow me to get Fyfe instead of Merrett as originally planned.

O’s low BE means he should make plenty of cash over the next two weeks in the absence of Stef Martin, and then I can go back to Max after his price drops OR I can move O forward and get rid of, say, Bailey Smith…

    More thinking required I think.

    1. Don’t do this Chillo! Just when I was thinking Gawn to Goldy..

Out of interest, what is your other trade (if you have one to get Fyfe)

      1. I like Goldstein but that round 15 bye bothers me. McInerney has averaged 110 in 3 games since he became the lone ruck at the Lions, and has DPP status! Poll time: Gawn and Starcevich out, and bringing in either:

        TU Merrett and NicNat, or
        TD Fyfe and McInerney

        1. Take out Fyfe’s injured scores and he is hitting his normal targets, think it’s worth the extra money considering you get some serious cash gen, less injury concerns and solo rucking from Big O

        2. What’s your take on Big O playing against Goldy Marshall and Grundy in his next 3 games as well as having to take a bye? Compare that to NicNat who plays McEvoy Jacobs and Soldo and has had his bye, so helps cover in round 14 with Lions/Crows bye.
Does playing Fyfe over Zerrett cover playing Big O over NicNat?

I’d go NicNat and Zerrett as I can’t trust Big O against his opponents and if he isn’t in the ruck he has scored <40 3 times this season

          1. I agree Nato, a lot to weigh up. As you say, going up against Goldy, Marshall and Grundy is going to be a tricky one. I haven’t paid close attention to McInerney throughout the season, but the past two games with Martin and Archie Smith out he’s had 128 v Soldo and 113 v English. Also fairly decent around the ground in terms of marking. 100% agree with you about the advantages of Nic Nat, just trying to convince myself this is a good idea!

Depending on what strategy you’re going for, the round 14 h2h bye means that the nic nat advantage isn’t as meaningful

The only difference between Nic Nat and McInerney for me is having 177000 vs 93000 itb for next week to upgrade Simpson

    2. Sorry to copy your plan but..

      Gawn to Big O

      Pickett to Fyfe

Rivers to Sholl (worried about Def cash gen)

Gives me 177000 itb for me to upgrade S. Simpson next week to Parker etc. and complete mids

      Any thoughts?

    3. Chillo – would you consider Cameron? low price, getting games, low BE and can be used as a stop gap for the 2-3 weeks Gawn drops in price

      1. I’m still salty about Cameron after I had him in my team all pre-season and then switched to Xerri at the last minute for no particular reason.

I guess the advantage is that McInerney is a potential keeper as a F6/R3 swing, whereas you will probably have to trade Cameron out again – although the extra cash would be useful….

            1. Done, that was the encouragement I needed. Good luck to us – at least it gives me a good excuse to watch North v Bris

  8. I’ve gone totally left field this week
Ranked season high 785 so gone aggressive .
Traded Gawn , B Smith and Pickett
for Lyons , Merrett and Wicks
R1 Grundy R2 Draper R3 Cameron ( not sure who scores more )
Also have B Williams who had been emergency last 2 weeks who could relieve Nat at some point
Have bank of 257 which can be used for Lloyd but will wait and see after he had icing at end of game
    Cripps my no 8 mid
    McPherson no 6 def
    Rankine no 6 fwd
Reluctantly tested b Smith instead of D Smith
But with breaks evens , rd 15 bye and inclusion of Hunter Kept D Smith so do something .

  9. Just putting it out there because I haven’t seen anyone mention it..what about bringing in Preuss? From memory, he’s scored decently in the past, won’t have Gawn or Jackson either. Only concern is that he will be underdone and going up against Grundy

    329k, ruc/fwd

  10. Hey FOS
I think he could go ok but JS still shaky as not sure he will play with Gawn back as not a forward ruck
