Excellent point, Daze. To take the 133, you need to field a non-player which means you forfeit the cash generation you could be making on a rookie who plays. But not having a non-player going forward means you won’t have the option of taking your VC’s score weekly. So you could be sacrificing a lot of points for that cash generation.
It also means that you could execute a variation of what’s come to be known as The Motts Manoeuvre (named after some flog) whereby you draft in a non-player this week that you know will play next week (such as Preuss) which then provides you with a POD in the immediate future.
There is a LOT more to this decision than meets the eye!
I’m giving some consideration to still starting Hollands and using him as a loop. I figure he is another likely to get games when fit. Does anyone know what his injury is and the likely timeline?
I’m torn, would love to take the score and it is good to be able to use the loop every week but I’m sure 1 rookie will be dropped in the 1st month to be used as a loop anyway.
TU – Start with a loophole
TD – No loophole
Yeah the original poll could be misleading as in any other round you’d take the 133. Because it’s rd 1 we have an option to have 30 players playing which is the real issue for me.
I had a look at the Preuss option. Thats a no for me atm as i i’ll need Preuss to make rnd 4 at least .
Def rookies look motley so thats where i’ll put a dpp nuff. Casting the mind back the better late nuffs are from Goldy or Hawks
My algo -163 pts vs def rookie with dodgy Js and scoring in rnd 1
and have vc option for the future
If Maxy Satan Macrae pull a 170 next week as vc please tell you wont take it
If you had Petracca VC you’d be crazy not to take it. Macrae its a toss up but if you are looking for a loop it’s simple.
For people wondering who to loop. Just park Josh Sinn at D8. Sure he won’t play but he’s DPP and if he hasn’t played by round 3/4 then you can use his funds to rookie correct to any decent rookie across all 3 lines (thanks to SDK/McCartin DPP)
I’ll see how the rookies play out tonight and make a call but at this stage I think I’ll roll the dice on touk to go huge against the Eagles so I’ll outright captain him and take 8 playing rookies on the bench. No doubt one gets dropped in the next fortnight anyway and I’ll then have a loophole.
And if that loophole player has early games each week ?? Thats why someone like Worner or Ned Long is worth having as loop for first 9 rounds at least.
A loophole is an integral part of my game. It is as important as selecting my Captain and the byes planning. For that, I am happy to sacrifice a cash generator. Also remember not all the rookies who started R1 will be steady cash generators so you have to correct anyway. Last year I couldn’t take few Vc scores as my loophole became substitute and it made for nervous weekends. Loophole for me.
I am picking Worner from Freo. Great late fixtures, DPP and cheap.
As for Macrae, I normally take 115+. Except when there are juicy, popular fixtures. I will take 133 any day of the week. Imagine you waited for Touk. he scores 150.
Macrae Captain: 133×2 + 150 = 413
Touk Captain: 150×2 + 133= 433
20 points difference. In a game of football, many bad things can happen and in a time of Covid, not worth it.
A lot are forgetting about Wilmot ($139k DEF). Suspended R1, could play R2. Mitch Robinson had him in his AFL Fantasy team so could suggest he’ll get games early.
Definitely in my considerations AJ. Was a bit of hype about him early preseason.
Coleman out for that two months will only help his chances to get back in as well.
Pretty straight forward to me. Took the decision for Ned Long as starting loop, but also in the knowledge that he might get a game somewhere. Depending on circumstances, he can also be moved forward to be an e loop. To have the Macrae/Steele loop every round bar 1 of the first 9 is just about set and forget. As mentioned above, one of the starting rookies at least will also likely be available to loop at some stage if Long gets a run.
As regards this round….why risk fate with a 133 ??? If Steele or whoever go 150 its only an extra 17 pts…risk 133 to make 17 ??? No thanks.
If macrae hit a 170, I might select a floating donut to take that. From experience and personal opinion I want the cash gen, and I think touk vs West coast WAFL team will deliver
An extra 10-20 points or weeks’ worth of rookie cash gen. That’s the question.

Oh how many things could I reply to this one …. *wink*
Instead, “great call boss man!!!!” … and yes, spot on, a lot more involved in the decision
Given me an idea. Another Mott’s manoeuvre could be Kruger from Col 198k Def. Looking serious at it… In place of Hinge
That’s my big question. Do I deliberately take an unnamed rookie instead of Baldwin or MacDonald.
If it was a 150+ then definitely.
But honestly you’d think Touk could go close or match that against a depleted WCE.
I Touk the risk
For me this decision relies completely on Hayes playing or not, if Hayes plays ill have to throw on the C on somebody else.

I hear ya. My same dilemma but poll seems to be going the way of no loophole.
If that’s the case, whose the best C of these options?
TU – Steele
TD – Neale
Comment – Grundy
The original poll is going the way of loophole, because the winning option is to take the VC score of Macrae.
Yes, this poll has become a proxy for: do you play a non-playing rookie in Round 1 or not?

And without bringing any bad juju to any player, what happens if your player that you choose to go for gets a HIA in his game?
Might be worth another poll Q
Who is the best non-playing player to use as a loop for this week?

Only 17 points Jeannot.
Macrae = 416
Touk = 433
Thanks Jimmy
