Poll: Trades, Boosts and Rookies

Written by JimmyDee on May 19 2022

Lisa, among others, has been keen for a while to find out how everyone is faring in the trades and boost categories, especially leading into the byes.

Given two weeks till the first of the dreaded byes, it is now a good time to get an idea of all coaches’ spending habits and plans for the byes. Have you used your boosts to get to full premo early, or are you sticking fat and saving some for the bye rounds. The first questions relate to this area.

How many BOOSTS do you have before round 10 trading?

How many BOOSTS are you saving for the byes?

The second section relates to trades used and how you plan to use them moving forward. Given a lot of coaches will need to replace The Man of Steele, and many more are agonising over the likes of Cogs, I feel there will be stronger inclinations to consider using a boost to double upgrade while the cash is there. Will it let you rid yourself of a rookie on field? Let us know.

After round 10 trading, how many trades will you have left?

  1. I currently have 2 boosts left and 18 trades.

Planned trades are Ward and Cogs to Clark, Brayshaw / Trac this leaves $70K-$90K bank.

    I will then have..
    Whitfield at D6
    Clark at M8
    Pruess R2
    Martin, Hamilton F5-6

So at least 4 upgrades with 16 trades.

    1. FT, are you thinking of holding either martin or Whitfield (or Daicos if own him) as M9 DPP/Swinger?

      1. Hey Derek..

I cashed in Daicos a few weeks ago. Whitfield probably goes next week if not named as he has the Bye the week after. Martin is an interesting one. I would love to hold him but I may need his cash to get to a Premo over the Byes.
The other thing with first year players is they tend to drop off later in the season as they tire. Martin also plays more of a outside game that gets harder to produce good numbers as the weather gets worse and theres more stoppage / contested footy.

I guess I will make a call eventually on if I upgrade Pruess or spend S Hayes money on getting a M9/F7 loop type player.

I currently have the E tonight on Paddy Mac, Carroll and Durdin depending on how they go will most likely determine who I trade to this week.

  2. After this week I’ll only have 1 rookie on field with the last upgrade likely being funded with SDK and McCartin so I’m leaning towards holding them through round 12 and then trading them in round 13 to a round 12 premo to finish the side. Other trade will be Sam Hayes down to a non playing ruck/forward before round 12 so I can have Cameron (he’ll get dpp that week), Witts and Preuss each week of byes in the ruck. From there I’m not really planning any trades but will have enough to sideways premos as needed to keep bodies on the park or any rookies that pop up then.

  3. I’m all but full premo just leaving 1 defender – 1 ruck – 1 fwd spot till after byes Rd 15/16 to pick who’s in best form.
I’ll have 16 trades left after this Rd .
Still holding Martin-Daicos -mcCartin- Hamilton -Clarke – Rioli – mcComb – dekoning

  4. I have Luke Ryan as my D6 at the moment. Thinking of using a boost this week to get a Sicily or someone like him.

Have Rowell at M8 and Martin at F6 so not full premo but comfortable.

Will leave me with 16 trades left

    Thoughts?
Hold off or go for it?

      1. Yeah trading MacDonald to Clark as well.

        Thinking of doing:

        Macdonald to Clark
        Gibcus to Sinclair
        Ryan to Sicily

          1. So it would be:
            Def-
Sicily, Short, Hewett, Sinclair, Lloyd, Ridley

            Mid-
Neale, Oliver, Miller, Macrae, Brayshaw, Smith and Rowell

            Ruck-
            Witts, Preuss

            Fwd-
Dunkley, Heeney, Brodie, Coniglio, Butters and Martin

So not quite but not the worst team I’ve ever had

            1. Still may need to upgrade 5-6 of those to win your league though so the extra trades will come in handy

            2. forward line needs a bit of work, but lets see who get DPP round 12, if Smith & Bont will make it easy to move smith forward for you.

Parker & Libba are already close to top 6 forwards
