  1. Lloyd, Dawson, Short, Kemp, O’Driscoll, Gould (Boyd, Dean)
Macrae, Steele, Petracca, Brayshaw, Neale, Caldwell, Horne-Francis, Daicos (MacDonald, Clark, Tsitas)
    Grundy, Marshall (Combden)
Dunkley, Butters, Coleman, Coniglio, Curnow, Williams (Hollands, Skinner)

    $68k bank

Most likely end up culling Coleman, Williams and Caldwell for rookies and end up taking an extra premium defender, but prefer having the mid prices sit their for now until rookies appear as locked.

    1. Unfortunately- a lot of the time we really don’t get the choice- think Clark from WC has hurt an arm so might be out for a while- so one favourite rookie down already- he was cheap too!

  2. Ok, based of the answers I got from the last RMT. This is current team, but obviously still deciding which premo formula will work best and not set in stone. Just fiddling around with things. Currently got 4-4-2-2 at the moment.

DEF: Lloyd, Ridley, Short, Whitfield, Kemp, Dean (De Koning, McDonagh)
MID: Macrae, Titch, Petracca, Neale, Thomas, JHF, Daicos, Clark (O’Driscoll, MacDonald, Tsitas)
    RUC: Darcy, Naitanui (Comben)
FWD: Dunkley, De Goey, Rayner, Coniglio, Rachele, Hollands (Skinner, Parker)

  3. With currently 41% ownership is Whitfield someone with high enough ownership to be a must have?

TU Yes Gotta have that shield
TD. Nah your good reliability is more important.

    1. His pre-season apparently has been solid so far. He is a guy who’s known to average over 100 (111 in 2019, 104 in 2020). So for the price he is, I think that’s a bit of a bargain.

      9

  4. DEF – Lloyd, Hall, Crisp, Whitfield, Skinner, Odriscoll (Kelly, Dean)

MID – Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Neale, Caldwell, JHF, Daicos, Stephens (Clarke, Roberts, Tsitzas)

RUC – Nic Nat, Grundy (Comben)

FWD – Dunkley, Heeney, Coleman, Coniglio, Curnow, Hollands (Dekoning, Parker)

    Any feedback appreciated

    1. Looks great so far.

Caldwell has been attracting my interest for the last few days, but will be wanting to see more from his pre-season to really consider him.

Also, I’m not sure if Skinner will start Rd.1 or not (he will get game time this year for sure). But I know Sinn was a standout in their intra club match today and is likely to get the call up first round. So out of the Port defender rookies, Sinn is your best pick out of them I reckon at this point.
With your remaining cap though, that might be a struggle to put him for a straight swap with Skinner. But if you really want him in there, I’d probably turn one of Crisp or Hall into a Ridley or Short. Up to you though ^.^ Good luck!

      1. Thanks Widdle, will try and squeeze in Sinn somehow. Possibly through bringing in Butters for Heeney as I’ve heard butters lined up with the mids today

      2. Sinn was very impressive today. You would think that he only has to retain that form to be a lock for Rd 1.
Aaron Hall needs to be monitored after leaving the ground with hamstring tightness in their match sim.
Keep an eye on the coaches box for an update asap.

  5. FT this pre-season performance of Serong, on the back of what he did late last year is becoming a compelling body of evidence- can he be realistically entertained at M5 or M6?

    1. I have just removed Sicily in def to afford him in the mids but I think it makes the team look a little weak down back.
I guess the? Is will he be a keeper…
      Cheers

      2

      2
    2. Maybe ?

The extra trades have opened up some possibilities.
If you think he’s going to start on fire, he could be someone you flip at his late bye to a “Proper ” mid.

I just can’t see him as a true Midfield Keeper at this stage . I would love him to prove me wrong !

I also think the best Rookies look to be in the midfield this year, so he’s taking one of their spots.

      For the pure $$

      I would rather have a Heeney , Butters, De Goose , T Thomas ?
Even Sicily if it suits your structure. They are all much more likely to finish top 6-8 on their line and get a forward / defender rookie off field as well.

I do hope I’m wrong and he goes huge !

Best of luck and happy planning.

  6. Latest iteration, keen to hear your thoughts…

DEF: Lloyd, Ridley, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Sinn (O’ Driscoll, Dean)

MID: Macrae, Steele, Titch, Neale, Caldwell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (G. Clark, Uwland, Tsitas)

    RUCK: Darcy, Grundy (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Rayner, Coniglio, C. Curnow, W.Kelly, Hollands (Maginness, Comben)

$37,700 ITB (would like to squeeze Hobbs in).

  7. I haven’t done this for years and years when I played this game full on. I am involved in a few Collingwood fb groups and started with a few Magpie lads in my team. If anyone can help point me in the right direction so I can get bragging rights in my groups. Thank you and all that.

    1. I would advise that you downgrade Gawn to Darcy Cameron.

That will give you $$ to get in Sidebum and De Goey.

Round 14 is going to be rough though 😉

      1. Thanks HH.

I am actually considering all 4 but that would mean not taking Lloyd.

        Lloyd is the safest pick.
Whitfield underpriced historically alway misses games
Short seems a safe pick with potential to lift further without Houli
Dawson has the potential to be top 3 depending on role
Sicily is underpriced but a fun roller coaster ride
        Ridley/Ryan/Crisp other safe options

        Unfortunately can’t start 6 premo defenders 🙂

  8. Please don’t spare my feeling pick and punch I can take it

Lloyd Crips Dawson Sinn De Koning Archer (Angwin Burgoyne)
Macrae Steele Oliver Neale Mitchell N Daicos Rachele JHF(Clark O’Driscoll Tsitas)
    Grundy Gawn (Comben)
Dusty Curnow Coniglio Hollands Rioli Skinner (Pedlar Kelly)

Leaves 466.4 in the bank rookies not set and some may turn into mid price players
any thoughts welcome I’m a big boy and can take it.

    1. For me, that’s way too much bank balance left. I would use that to find another pricey defender (Short, Ridley, or consider Whitfield or Sicily) , or forward (Dunkley, Duncan, Butters).
I would also move Rachele into the forward line, he is needed there more & there’s plenty of other expensive mid rookies to take his spot – D Stephens, Ward, Hobbs or Chester.
Your premium mids look great and like most teams – R14 is going to hurt.

      3

      1. Thanks Lisa had Duncan but was told may not get up for round 1 and dont plan to start round one with such a healthy bank and have saved the players you have mentioned

        1. You have quite a few options.

          1. Guns and Rookies.
          – Ditch one of your mids (not Neale) for a Premium rookie (or a midpricer if you are that way inclined. Use the cash to get 1 500K + Defender and 1 450k+ MID/FWD (Trealor, Bailey, Butters, Thomas ect)

          2. Midprice Madness.
          – Use your 460K to upgrade 2 of your FWD rookies into the 200k range and 1 Def into the midprice bracket.

That at keeps your current structure/cash gen in tact but reduces the risk that comes with 123k rookies potentially not being best 22

  9. Going backwards & forwards on this one, who would you rather have-

TU :Caldwell & Rayner = 7 on field rookies
TD : cheap rookie mid and Butters = 8 on field rookies

    1. I’m actually shocked at the amount of people writing De Goey off here.

JDG contract year, after a ripper end to the season I can’t see them throwing him back forward full time either.

      10

      1
      1. I hear you Abs..

I think DeGoey could be a great selection. The main knock is the fact that he joined the group late after having to do most of the early Preseason on his own. He also got a niggle recently that could hold him back a bit.

I have both Butters and Heeney slightly ahead at this stage. Both are also slated for more midfield time and play for potential top 4 sides. I see T Thomas and Degoey a slight tier down mainly due to the fact they have less runs on the board and play for poorer sides.

        4

        0
  10. Lloyd Ridley Sicily Milera wanganeen-Milera o’Driscoll (Kelly, dean)

Steele Oliver Mitchell brayshaw Neale JFH Daicos Constable (Stephens, mead, Clarke)

    Grundy BIG O (Hayes)

Dunkley DeGoey heeney cogs maginness hollands (comben,Parker)

Bugger all cash left over and taking a chance of a few risky premos but 35 trades really opens up the chance to take more risks . Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

  11. Here’s another take on it based on a few more match sims and associated injuries.

Lloyd, Dawson, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Sinn (O’Driscoll, Dean)
Steele, Mitchell, Neale, Cripps, JHF, Daicos, D Stephens, Erasmus (Hollands, Goater, Tsitas)
    Darcy Grundy (Comben)
Thomas, Butters, Rayner, Coleman, Coniglio, Curnow (Maginness, S.De Koning)

Way too tight on the cash front, just $400 left

    3

    2
    1. Actually may shuffle De Koning back, O’Driscoll mid, Hollands fwd.

Not sure which is the best rookie coverage dpp setup?

(Assuming the 102k are unreliable for field time)

Right now dpp cover for mid looks better (Thomas, Cogs, Maginness) but I’m dependent on at least one of Sinn or O’Driscoll getting field time down back. If I shift O’Driscoll mid I can cover Sinn with O’Driscoll, De Koning or Coleman.

But that means minimal cover for midfield where I have 4 onfield rookies, as I lose the fwd/mid dpp link, only having the def/mid.

Of course this gives me a deeper rookie bench to chose from.

T/u Leave it alone you have 5 def premo already
T/d The back rookies are still the big risk

      1

      2
      1. for me my ideal bench cover bench is almost all DPP.
        DEF: D/M, D/F.
MID: M/D, Mid, M/F (That Mid could be replaced with a 2nd M/F, I just like Tsais as a captain loop with potential if he gets playing time, )
        R3: R/F
        FWD: M/F, F/D

For your team… If you want Coleman as a potential D6 Swing cover you need a D/F on your Def Bench. So your switch up option is right. just need to find a way to swap one of your mids for a M/F. Would look at swapping Tsais out for a 102k M/F. There are a few interesting ones that have just as good a chance as Tsais to play this season… Or just do the Ned Long Perma Loop

        3

        0
        1. Agree. If one of Tsitas and Dean doesn’t make it up, but all the rest do, then there will be a dpp shuffle to put Long on the field as a replacement, allowing full dpp def/mid, def/fwd, fwd/mid combinations.

Of course, there’s still a risk of other players getting changed. Such a small cash reserve means that if I need to upgrade for more expensive playing rookies I’ll be forced into changes, but I have contingency plans for that already sussed out.

  12. My final pre-AAMI draft:

Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Sicily, Milera, Sinn (O’Driscoll, Dean)

Macrae, Steele, Mitchell, Neale, JHF, Daicos, Ward, Hobbs (Mead, McDonald, Tsitas)

    Gawn, Grundy (Preuss)

Dunkley, Martin, Coniglio, Curnow, Maginness, Hollands (Kelly, Comben)

Preuss at R3 is a calculated gamble – he’s a bit more expensive and job security is iffy, but I think he’ll get enough game time to be worthwhile. Can always downgrade to a loop option if necessary.

The only premo I’m not convinced on yet is Dusty, could easily go to Butters or Heeney instead.

    12

    1
    1. Hey there Chillo.

      A pretty strong team , but I only count 12 keepers ( this includes Sicily ) .

There are a few things I would consider. By only going the 4 Premo mids this should open the door to try and fit in 13 keepers.Or minimum 12 top end guys. A few ways to free up cash to squeeze another keeper in.
As you mentioned …I’m not a huge fan of Dusty as a starting pick.
He hasn’t started a season strongly since 2017. There is also a few unknowns around Richmond generally, Will they regress or rebound ? I feel theres much more value in Butters / Heeney or even T Thomas ( I just watched the North intraclub and he was very impressive. )
I also can’t see much value in Crisp at his high starting price, ( other than durability ) I think theres much more upside in Dawson, Ridley or even Whitfield if it means another keeper.

I think Pruess is waste of cash at R3. He admitted recently to being behind Flynn in the pecking order at GWS. He has missed most of the Preseason and will need time to gain fitness.Best case he plays second fiddle early . He may eventually get enough games to make some cash, but I’m pretty sure you could get better use of that money on field somewhere else. I would move Comben to R3 and try and get in another Premo Forward. ( this may require downgrading Milera )

Best of luck whatever you decide.

      1. Thanks FT. Some excellent points there!

Milera is really just a placeholder at the moment until another def rookie emerges. Maybe Chesser? We’ll see.

Crisp is a lock for me. Pendlebury going to halfback should mean even more mid minutes, and as you said he just does not miss games. I have various question marks over all three of the alternatives that you mentioned (Dawson at a new club, Ridley inconsistent, Whitfield durability).

  13. How do you guys reckon my team is looking

Def: Lloyd, Crisp, Dawson, Coleman, Sinn, O’Driscoll (Chesser, Sinn)
Mid: Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Neale, Caldwell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (Mead, Tsitas, Clark)
    Ruck: Grundy, Gawn (Comben)
Forward: Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Rachele, Hollands (Kelly, De Koning)

      1. Good choice David. ( btw, I like your team)
        Charlie Dean –

        – assistant coach Justin Leppitsch

  15. For those that have Greg Clark I copied the below from the afl app. Might want to change him to someone else.

Mature-age draftee Greg Clark, who did not take part, also appears out of contention for an early debut after emerging from the rooms at half time with his right arm in a sling.

  16. Here’s a structure that relies on the extra trades and presumes covid disruptions are less of a risk – 11 keepers

Lloyd, Crisp, Dawson, Milera, Sinn, O’Driscoll (mcguinness, dean)

Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Mitchell, Neale, Constable, JHF, Daicos (butler, clark, tsitas)

    Gawn, Grundy (comben)

Dunkley, Gresham, Coniglio, Curnow, Rachelle, Kelly (de koning, hollands)

    15k ITB, projected 1875

Milera, Constable, Gresh, Cogs and Curnow should be able to average 400 points a week between them = good cash gen and they all have solid JS (Constable tbc) plus one can end up a keeper/last upgrade.

Alternatively, keep Cogs (avg 80) and turn the other four into two additional premos (100 avg each at best) and two basement rookies (60 avg each at best) = the same 400 points but with poorer JS and less cash gen and the additional premos would need to be Sicily/Butters/Thomas/DeGoat type starting price with no guarantee they end up top 6-8 in their roles.

TU : your logic makes sense, worth the risk given the extra trades we have
TD : forget it, must start minimum of 12 keepers regardless of the extra trades

    Comments very much welcomed!

    2

    10
    1. I think with the extra trades accepting a slightly reduced cash increase per trade for greater point scoring on ground and greater job security (which may negate that cash growth issue somewhat).

But Clark and McGuinness are both injured to my knowledge. We’ve heard basically nothing on Butler and De Koning. You can carry one of Tsitas and Dean but $15k won’t upgrade the other.(Note I also havve this same concern if they don’t play).

Kelly is now to play forward so job security is likely but point scoring, already very very low in 2021 where he went backwards in price is a real worry.

Gresh having “issues” and still only playing half a match sim screams DANGER DANGER to me, and not in a Patrick Dangerfield way.

Rachele looks like being another overpriced small forward unless he gets a lot of mid time as it’s pretty clear Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Walker are all the targets and small forwards do not score well consistently. So you basically have a forward line of Dunks F1 Cogs F2 Curnow F3 with Rachele at F4 and Kelly at F5.

Most have Cogs at F4 at the most.

That’s my reasoning for a big thumbs down.

      3

      3
      1. Thanks HH – hear what you’re saying but bench rookies + rachelle just place holders for now , will review for R1 but given all the thumbs down , might just go back to tried and tested 12 keeper min starting side

        3

        0
        1. Like your side ninja. Similar to mine. Where all the premos are will depend on availability of rookies on each line so changes will be made to all sides when we know more.

          2

          0
        2. I don’t think it’s bad mate, and we all know rookies are just placeholders to round 1. If there are solid lower price rookies who we think can get JS they’re always the best cash generators.

If you did something else with the Gresh/Milera money I’d probably vote differently, as honestly most of the team is solid. $570k for those two I see as a legit keeper and a rookie, or two different midpricers at a similar price but ones we’ve seen a lot more from in the preseason (Coleman, Caldwell, Rayner) and enough cash to give an upgrade to a 102k or 117k rookie if needed.

The problem is that most of the viable rookies seem to be in the midfield, and you can’t run Caldwell in there with your 5 premium mid plus premo rookies combo either.

Hence why so many teams are running Coleman/Caldwell and not running 5 premo mids, or not taking up Constable.

Like the Constable pick btw, can’t make myself do it with the structure but think it’s a winner.

Don’t get me wrong, these are just risk/reward judgements I fall on a different place than you do. Both Milera and Gresham have the talent, but both have been burn men multiple times previously.

          3

          0
    2. With Defensive Rookies starting to show up, are we overthinking this midfield situation due to last year’s mid price success?

Just for the fun of it put together a loaded mid team and i quite like the look of it
      NOT MY MAIN TEAM

DEF: Crisp, Dawson, Coleman, Sinn, Chesser, O’Driscoll, Boyd, Dean
Mid: Mcrae, Steele, titch, Parish, petracca, Neale, JHF, Daicos : Nankervis, Uwnland, Parker.
      Rucks: Gawndy: Comben
FWD; Dunks, Butters, Cogs, Curnow, Mcguinness, Hollands, Winder, Kelly

Cash Remaining 44k Aka enough to upgrade 2x 102k rookies to 123k rookies. or Parish to Lyons and 1x 123k rookie.

Only have 7 onfield rookies. 5 if you count Daicos/JHF as midpricers)

TU: Yes, More Mids might be the way to go
TD: No: 4422 is the way to go.

      1. Jsg, hard to know at this stage.
I know every year I think I have the rookies sorted a few days out from selection- then all of a sudden these all conquering rookies don’t get named. Personally reckon 4 defenders are needed as Rookie defenders not high scorers and often don’t get named/dropped.
        Good luck!

  17. Harbour Heroes,
What is your source that Maginness is injured?

He played a hard attacking game in the latest match sim on Thursday.

Jade Gresham, “He hasn’t really missed a beat this summer. He had a few setbacks here and there, but generally, he’s been very, very good. He’s improved his running and will play a bit forward and midfield, which is exciting.” Brendan Lade

        1. Thanks WW for the clarification.

CT, Maginness from Hawthorn is not a Defender so cannot be picked as such, so I definitely meant the North one.

As far as Gresham goes, that’s an admission from the coach of multiple injury setbacks during the preseason, of which there has been previous news stories about.

He’s still played only a half match sim. Still cautious. He may end up a good pick, but it’s very high risk when there are similar priced players (Caldwell, Coleman, Rayner) blowing the doors off it at training and match sim.

  18. Afternoon, all. Gone through a few drafts, here’s the latest:

DEF: Lloyd, Ryan, Ridley, Sinn, O’Driscoll, De Koning [McDonagh, Dean]

MID: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Parish, Neale, JHF, Daicos, Hobbs [C. Stephens, MacDonald, Goater]

    RUC: Darcy, Grundy [Hayes]

FWD: Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Hollands, Skinner [Parker, loop]

DEF: Going deep down back has been the flavour of the month but thinking we might get away with enough DEF rookies. Sinn, O’Driscoll and Dean have had good match sims and are shaping up nicely for Round 1. De Koning also looks like he’ll have a spot, just probably not the best field option. If I need D4 depth I’ll cut a premo down to Sicily and then get Coleman, Bowey or Milera at D4.

Have temporarily taken out Hall after that hamstring tightness yesterday but will bring him back in if it’s nothing major. Lloyd an obvious pick and thinking the replenishment of key defensive stocks at Freo and the Dons will free up Ryan and Ridley as the interceptors they’re meant to be.

MID: Pretty intuitive here. Replaced Walsh with Parish. Comes in a touch underpriced and love his ceiling and trajectory – still has that good bye. Only worried about how easily decimated he is by tags. Have been trying to rationalize by way out of JHF but per CT’s updates he’s been popping off.

RUC: R3 spot just messing with my head. Hayes managed due to leg soreness the other, so probably a ways off forcing Lycett out. Not really a fan of Comben nor Preuss unless he starts as #1 ruck. Don’t want 200k there just waiting for ruck roulette.

FWD: Really happy with the forward line, hasn’t changed for weeks. De Goey and Thomas also interesting and same breakout MID profile as Butters and Heeney, but I’m liking the 2 of them rn.

    Can’t wait for pre-season games.

    1. Wow you nailed this one Gunboat !

13 Keepers and maintain 3/5/2/3 Structure.

This is a serious Guns and Rookie side with really just Cogs as a Midpricer.

I’m not sure on your bank balance ( Can you get Hobbs to Erasmus ? ) but this team looks superb. I guess if you need cash for better Rookies you can drop a defender to Sicily as you mentioned.

My only slight query is … I love Ryan he’s my boy 🙂 but for the same price I would prefer Dawson with a shot to play midfield. This is all jus nit picking though.

      Fantastic side.

Best one I’ve seen this year.

      7

      0
      1. Aha, thanks FT.

Bank is 6k. If both Ward and Erasmus look the goods, then I’ll have to re-jig things to get them in.

On Dawson, I’m just waiting to see his exact role. Not wrapped about a wing dimension to his game, Crows generate sweet f*ck all outside ball. If he’s got a sufficient MID role, I’m on-board. Would have been one of my first picked if he’d stayed at the Swans.

We’ll all be watching him closely no doubt.

You think Erasmus and O’Driscoll can both line up R1? With Mundy and Fyfe coming back I was thinking maybe just one idk. Would love your take.

        Also, how’s your team looking?

        3

        0
        1. Hey GD.

I’m really hoping both Driscoll and Erasmus get up Round one. They’re both still in my current side

I think its as much to do with the fitness / form of guys like Tucker and Brodie ( *as well as the other guys I mention below. ) as much as Mundy and Fyfe.

I honestly can’t see Fyfe there R1 I saw an interview with him recently and he kinda said was hoping for early in the season. He still hasn’t done any contact work on the shoulder.

Mundy will play but probably more a a Mid forward split.

After Brayshaw and Serong ..there’s not huge depth.

They’ve tried *Acres, Switkowski and Crowden as well as Erasmus and ODrizzle in the match sim.

I do think there’s spots there if they’re good enough. O Driscoll can play outside as well, but there is huge completion for wing spots at Freo so I’m not sure he gets one of those. He may rotate inside and out to the wing with someone like Acres.

Erasmus is a better Forward so may rotate with Mundy. I do hope we get them both.

My team is nearly ready for reveal .

I’m just busy stealing your structure, 😉 and shuffling the rookies as they fall. 🙁

          1. Ah, gotcha.

As long as they make the most of their MID minutes blended roles on the wing for O’Driscoll and up FWD for Erasmus could still be okay.

            Thanks, FT.

            1. Gunboat…

              My team atm.

I have tried for 13 keepers with the 3/5/2/3/ structure. with 6-7 rookies on field ( 2-3 midpricers)

Like you and Abs I’m torn about may backline ..
Short and Hinge may become Sicily and Coleman. depending on rookies.

I have bolstered my forward line as their seems to hardly any decent rookies. This required dropping Lloyd ( I actually started Mills over Lloyd last year and it worked alright. ) and getting a couple of cheaper left field Premo’s.

I’m not 100% on this one yet but…

              Dashing Donkeys 20/02/2022..

              $16K-$20K bank. and 3 x $102K rookies 🙁

              Dawson . Short* . Whittfield . Hinge* . Sinn . O Driscoll .
              Dean . De Koning.

              Macrea . Steele . Titch . Petracca . Neale . JHF . Daicos . Erasmus .
              C. Stephens . Mead . Tsitas.

              Darcy . Marshall . Hayes .

              Dunkley . Heeney . Butters . Cogs . Curnow . F Maguiness .
              Comben . Parker.

Petracca could be a bit risky but if he starts ok I think I will be fine. He is the one with the most scope for growth if he keeps up the form from late last year. At just a touch over $600k I’m hoping he can provide some value and finish M7-8 . He could even do a heap better.
Marshall is the hardest choice . This is the one I”m still not sold on.

Basically its Petracca . Marshall and Heeney or..
Touk . Grundy and a mid price Forward like Rayner.

I will be eager to hear your thoughts.

              1. Hey, FT.

Structurally, it’s great and like the built in flexibility to add some D4 & D5 depth.

The picks that stand out are Petracca and Marshall. Huge upside but some asterisks on both.

I had Racca last season. Has the raw stats each week to 120+ but just butchers the sh*t out of it. Multiple clangers, ass disposal efficiency, so frustrating.

The flip side is his CP work, contest presence and scoreboard ability (actually has had more score involvements as a pure MID than his FWD days) give him a massive ceiling and so much fun to watch.

If he tightens up his use, he could easily be Top 8. Apparently it’s been a focus of Mark Williams’.

A month ago RoMo was on a modified load then the other day they said he “hasn’t missed a beat”. Say he is in mint condition I’m still not sure on him. Needs the #1 ruck gig off Ryder, the hand over needs to happen already. He can still score well in that 1-2 rolw but would just be such a juicy option as #1 ruck. Also, how easily plantar fasciitis can be reaggravated worries me.

Will be interesting to watch the both of them in the coming fortnight.

Again, great team FT. Good luck.

                4

                0
                1. Petracca is a risk I hear you, but I’m hoping for more consistency this year.He should score enough to finish top 8-10 midfielders .Worst case folks get him cheaper and I’m left a bit out of pocket.I really can’t see him dropping much under $550K .. Best case he explodes and I’m one step ahead.

I’m still not sold on Marshall myself. Its really about his fitness…

I heard Ryder won’t start the season. If this is the case and Marshall is rucking alone he could close the $ / points gap on Grundy. If he does have another Ruck and plays more Forward then he may get given Forward status, A win either way. The early Bye is great too. If his body is right I may just take the risk.

                  1

                  0
                  1. Ryder/Marshall’s first 6 ruck opponents:
                    – Grundy (H)
                    – Darcy (A)
                    – Tigers (H)
                    – Hawks (H)
                    – Suns (H)
                    – Giants (A)

If Ryder misses the first chunk of the season and Marshall can have free range, once he gets past Grundy and Darcy, he should feast on the rest as #1 ruck.

Just about how strong his pre-season has been. Eyes peeled for how he covers the ground and any strapping.

    2. GD, Thanks for sharing.
Really like your team but then again wouldn’t expect anything less.

I love the Ryan selection, I have had him in and out of my side… at the moment he is out.. a certain upgrade target if I don’t eventually start with him.

JHF wasn’t going to be in my team initially (due to price)but his sim games have really persuaded me. He could be as good as North fans have been saying?

I get your Hayes dilemma, as I too have struggled with r3. His opportunity to replace Lycett is slipping, at least at the start of the season.

Butters really impressed me in the latest match sim and has Thomas in the last two. Butters showed intensity that I wasn’t aware he had. I really want these two.

My team is still going through a metamorphous phase. I will post the latest version if anyone is interested but it is a work in progress, as is every ones!

I have been chasing up a confirmation that Hollands was injured in his match sim today but haven’t be able to verify as yet.
So many injury enforced changes last few days.
      Good luck GD.

      1. Thanks, CT.

A lot of this recent draft has been informed by your updates, brother.

You’ve also got me juiced on Thomas. Going to watch him closely along with JHF and Hall’s body – Roos oddly relevant.

Yep, love the Ryan pick if he can get into full flight (i.e out of an accountable role). Great minds think alike, CT. Shame FT has sold us out lol.

Anyway, thanks again for all your updates. Seriously crazy good work.

Looking forward to seeing your team and excited for these preseason games.

    3. Parish is an interesting pick ahead of Mitchell, thinking Parish overachieved last year and is over priced.

I wasn’t a fan for starting either Daicos or JHF, but with both being over 65% owned, I’m not willing to go without.

Heeney should get a bump with Mills looking likely to miss the early rounds, should get some mid time but not convinced Butters will. Butters is very well priced but would still go Heeney over Butters.

Depending where the rookies appear, I would look at a straight swap between Butters and Sicily

      6

      1. Hey, Derek.

        Thanks for the feedback.

Not quite sure what you mean about Parish “overachieving” though? Not really a technical description of a midfielder. He broke out after finally being unleashed on a full CBA load. All Australian, averaged 30.5 touches, strong CP ratio. Had a capital season.

From the Anzac Day game till getting decimated by a tag v GWS he was averaging something ridiculous like 130 – if anything, he’s a touch underpriced. Clear breakout trajectory last season.

Now, could defintely make the case for other MIDs over him; Bont, Satan, Titch, Laird, etc. He came in as my Walsh replacement. Open to other MIDs, this is just a draft.

On Titch, I’m a touch concerned that he’s in a side about to embark on a proper rebuild. Might have his role dicked around with to spread the CBs around (eg. a stint HF here and there). Still think he’s a solid Top 8 pick and can do 120~ but see more upside elsewhere.

On Butters v Sicily, it comes down to finishing Top 6. Both reportedly training strongly but don’t think Sicily is Top 6 (behind Lloyd, Hall, Dawson, Riddles, etc.) whereas if Butters breaks out and gets those flagged minutes he can press Top 6 up FWD.

Only way I’d start Sicily is for D4 depth. Much like Titch, I’m also concerned about his role. Lotta cooks in the Hawks backline now, so unlikely to have a monopoly on HB distribution or kick outs (although I’d love him to) and could even be experimented with up FWD they’ve said.

Anyway, cheers for the feedback. Lot to think about.

        2. Parish had a lot go his way last year. Bombers lost Caldwell early in season, Shiel didn’t play much, Stringer was half fit, McGrath missed games.

Everything went his way, and he had the talent to capitalise.

Will he have as much midfield time again?

          2

          5
          1. Parish is locked in as Essendon’s M1

Stringer will have the Dusty role. CBA bull but then shift forward

Merrett/Mcgrath are rotating between Halfback and Mid.

Guys like Sheil/Caldwell will be starting forward and rotating into the midfield or Starting on the bench and filling in when its time for Parish to rest.

The real stay away is Hobbs. Unless he breaks out hard he’s unlikely to be in front of Parish, Merrett, Mcgrath, Sheil, Stringer, Caldwell Langford, with Heppell and Cox set to be the starting wings. then you have Durham, Smith, Ham, Perkins,

So thats somewhere in the 10th -12th midfielder range. He will play when they have injuries but could see him being in and out of the side a lot. not something you want from a 150k rookie.

Essendon’s best 22 is going to be very hard to break into

            4

            1
    4. Looking solid. I’ve gone back to Thomas in the Midfield and Heeney on the forward line rather than Cripps. Just liking that breakout mid and dpp potential.

Have you considered say a Hewett/Coleman swap for say Ridley/McDonagh? Both players have got clear upsides, Hewett last 3 all over 100 and has shown good scoring potential when allowed to play as a mid not a tagger. So long as Carlton don’t tag with him he’s still only young (26) and $100k cheaper than Cerra and has dpp. This gives you some extra dpp flex and lets you move De Koning off field.

    Any comments appreciated.

    DEF-

looks the goods. If you want to slightly strengthen your Forwards you could upgrade Rachele to Curnow. Otherwise the team looks great .

      1. Thanks FT.

I had originally had that proposed idea in my side but I think for the duration that Walsh is out might impede on Curnow scoring a bit.

Might look for an avenue into turning Rachele into Rayner instead.

        1. I’m honestly not sure that the Carlton midfield is going to be that weak, at least not early while Walsh is out.

Assuming Cripps is fit, Cerra continues his upward trajectory, Hewett slots in nicely these are all solid improvements.

Sure, Walsh is a HUGE loss but it’s only going to be the first 5 or 6 weeks, and their early fixture is very promising – a possibly very underdone Richmond in round 1, Hawks in R3, Suns in R4, Dockers in R6, North in R7 and Adelaide in R8 make for a pretty good run in the first 8 rounds.

    1. Bolt out of the blue.

      All I know-
Only played 5 games, all last year. By far the best was a 98 against North Melbourne Rd 21. Kicking 1.1.
His debut was Rd 9 -33 points then, rd 10 23 points, rd 11 42 points kicking 2 goals,
Rd 21 98 points then finally rd 22 15 points.

Maybe as you asked, a Tiger supporter could enlighten the community?. Someone who saw the match sim?
      We would be most grateful.

    1. Hey, Gilly.

Cripps, Draper and Brodie definitely no go’s.

Cripps well and truly cooked, Draper just isn’t an SC material ruck man, Brodie not B22 and even if he is it’ll be in an ass role.

Find the funds to get Cripps and Draper up to proper premos. Also, Cogs is pretty much a must have bar a flagged change to his role or a paltry pre-season performance.

Also, if you’re bullish on Serong you have to be backing him in to do 110. That’s a huge increase on last year’s average and can only come on the back of an extraordinary breakout. Not saying it’s impossible but with the strength of MID premos and rookies, you can’t afford a misread on a breakout.

Like the Thomas, Butters and Ridley picks though.

      Good luck.

    2. Lots of Names there.

I’m staying away from Draper because i got burned last year but i see the appeal.

With the Cripps/Serong/Rowell Midfield… Don’t do it. Having too many players in that price point doesn’t give you any room for error.

Serong as M5 is justifiable. But combine Cripps and Rowell for a real Premium and a Gun high priced rookie. That gives you 2 weeks to assess Rowell before any price rise. If he looks the goods You can trade down from either Serong or your M3 to get him (Rowell) and then use the remaining 200-250k to upgrade to a premo on another line

Edit: or a rookie to a now proven 300k player

    2. Solid 13 players, some good premo rookies.

Basically no midpricers so if there’s enough rookies come round 1 you’re laughing.

All the rookies you have look pretty viable too, so it’s not likely you’re going to have to throw in players you don’t know before kick off.

      Great stuff.

  24. Evening everybody.

    Locking in my latest draft.
Will try not too tinker til Pre-Season begins:

Lloyd, Whitfield, Sicily, Coleman, Sinn, Kelly (McDonagh, Dean)

Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Titch, Neale, JHF, Daicos, O’Driscoll (Clark, Parker, Tsitas)

    Grundy, Darcy (Hayes*)

Dunkley, JDG, Heeney, Cogs, Hollands, Skinner (De Koning, Loophole Ned Long)

    Def:
Whitfield I believe to be underpriced, has had a ripper Pre-season and am willing to take a punt with the added trades.
Coleman is a one to watch; could become a Rayner / Caldwell or even be cut to fund Sicily -> to another Defensive Premo.

    Mid:
Went hard grabbing all the Uber Premo’s. Considering turning Clarry -> Miller
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I’m expecting Titch to finish top 5 in total points this season.

    Ruck:
If I could clone Darcy I would.
R3 is a head scratcher atm.

    Fwd:
Choosing Heeney over TT is purely due to North’s overcrowded midfield. Interesting to see how they split his Mid/Fwd time. JDG and Heeney both contract years and am expecting significant Mid time for the two.

    1. As a Hawks fan I want Sicily to return to his best, but while he was away, Scrimshaw, Hardwick, CJ, Impey, Day, Denver and Brambles all have appeared. So many defenders now.

He will still be good, but there are plenty others will take points.

Last Thursday match sim, Brambles, Hardwick and Scrimshaw were taking the kick outs

He is cheap, but I can’t see him being near top 6 defenders

      5

      4
      1. I’m a Hawker too . (That Larps as a Sean Darcy fanboy.)

A lot of reports about Sicily taking a step forward as an overall athlete and so far having quite a solid pre-season.

I know we’re congested down back, but it’s James Sicily. At his best he’s an AA caliber player, you make room for those players wherever they best fit.

Also plays a very different role to a few of the new look defenders we’ve had come through.

Will be monitoring him, but as it stands, he isn’t a bad pick at sub 450k.
Especially if it’s enabling me elsewhere…

        3

        0
            1. Sicily is a ‘fallen premium’, has been there and done it.

he looks over his injury, but they do say it does take a full year to recover, but it was mid last year, so he should be ok.

i watched the footage of the last two match sims for the hawks, didn’t see him take the kick out once, in fact he was up on the wing a few times as a marking option.

i just think there are too many defenders and SMitchell will be trying a few things this year, he has said a number of times the hawks will be agressive, i’m assuming that means playing on quickly, not letting Sicily get angry

as a hawks fan, it was great to see Gunston doing his thing last week, was all over the ground. will be a nice draft pick up

              5

              0
              1. That’s potentially the bigger risk than injury recovery. Hawthorn are a different unit with a lot of back options and a new coach. I see a pretty big threat of Sicily doing a lot of wing and forward roles.

Will still generate cash, he’s too good not to make those breakevens, but it really makes you wonder if he’s potentially going to be outside the top 10 defenders.

At his price a top 10 defender position has to be the goal.

                1

                2
    2. Very nice, Abs.

Basically have the same side, except you’ve split a 550k~ DEF premo into Sicily and Coleman – a maneuver I’m keeping my back pocket if DEF rookies like dire.

I totally get the De Goey pick, got him last season on TrooRoo’s advice after his flagged move to the midfield. Was a lock for me until the pre-season:

      – Hasn’t had a normal, even full, pre-season after the whole NY/hands on saga
      – Returned to training with the club and was training with the FWD group and then in the midfield, would have wanted him to retain that OB role and been training exclusively as a MID
      – Rib knock last week, didn’t play in the match sim a few days ago and apparently “touch and go” for the practice games; definitely battling from everything I’ve read

Not saying don’t start him (might end up doing so myself), just monitor him very closely.

Otherwise a GREAT side, good luck!

      1. Cheers GD.

Have been playing with a few different formats. Initially had 2 more Mid Pricers & Hall in place of Sicily; at the cost of Clarry but changed that up over the last 2 days.

        This current format of:
        3 Premo – 1 Mid
        5 Premo
        2 Premo
        3 Premo – 1 Mid

Leaving me with 13 keepers and only leaving 2 rookies on the D/F lines is what I’m most comfortable with. I think it gives me a lot of coverage and a nice balanced style going into AAMI.

Really liking the looks of Caldwell and do believe there’s good reason the Dons chased him the way they did (struggling with the current setup having Coleman over him…). Oliver could easily become Caldwell (and has been up until 2 days ago) with the rest of the funds spread elsewhere as initially planned. However I’ll be waiting til AAMI to adjust my format and players any further.

JDG will become TT or Butters if he doesn’t inspire confidence before round 1.

Yeah, watching Caldwell closely as well. Think you’re spot on. One of those guys that kinda has to be OB. Can see him in a managed TOG role but in the middle, with Zerrett, McGrath, Shiel and Stringer taking rotations on the wing and at HF (which is how their last match sim looked).

          5

          0
          1. GB would you look at Caldwell instead of either JHF or Dacios if can find the extra $60k? or is going against 65% of coaches who are on the gun rookies too much of a early risk?

            3

            0
            1. I was pondering something myself Derek. I think JHF will spend more time forward than a lot of people are expecting. However @only 200k, good Pre-Season thus far, 65% ownership and clearly rated within North.
I can’t let him sit out atm.

              4

              0
            2. Daicos in a really SC conducive role. Slated to play at HB and then on ball, was taking kick outs at the match sim the other day. He’s a lock.

JHF set for 70:30 FWD/MID but apparently been explosive when on ball. At his ownership percentage, I’ve come around to putting him in my drafts. Still need to see him in the coming fortnight, would only pass if he seems to condemned too a HF role and not getting enough purchase OB. Easier to take him out than to add him in, so I’ve got him for now.

Wouldn’t being going expensive rookies versus midpricers though. Wrong way to look at it imo. If they all look the goods, then start them all. If JHF looks deadly in AAMI and gets solid MID rotations AND Caldwell comes out hot with good minutes and solid CB load, then find a way to start both.

  25. Is it just me, or have the Sun’s over-cooked their conditioning program…again? Fattest head coach in the history of world sport, and year after year they continue to burn their list with too much high intensity training, and insufficient recovery. Unlucky incidental injuries my arse! It’s high time the AFL send some professionals to that disgraceful backyard hick operation. I feel sorry for the top end talent that gets drafted there.

    3

    10
    1. Fair enough, it’s just me then. Sorry if it upset anyone, but coming from a person who is trained & educated in high performance, and has been charged with many of these kinds of jobs at this level of performance (not in Aussie Rules footy), the injury toll at that club, amidst articles on elite kids doing ridiculous running sessions like 25 X 400m on a 2 minute start clock – reads like a senseless mental toughness agenda, at the expense of optimal conditioning. I suspect those elite young bodies aren’t failing from bad luck, but rather because the involuntary reflex components of the neuromuscular system are fried from senseless repeated hammering. You all know SC and how to play it a lot better than me, but I wouldn’t be picking a Suns player as a keeper without a pre-planned contingency.

  26. Got a handful of thumbs down for my last team.
    Changed it up hows this?

Crisp, Ryan, Short, Milera, Gibcus, Sinn
    ( Chesser, Mcdonagh )

Steele, Touk, Satan, Neale, Daicos, Ward, Stephens, Hobbs
    ( Hollands, Mead, Roberts )

    Darcy, Grundy (Hayes)

Dunks, Dusty, Thomas, Gresham, Cogs, Kelly
    ( De Koning, Comben )

    5

    7
  27. Okay, I think this is the team I am going to stick with until AAMI is over. There are many players I want, with the likes of Ryan, Whitfield, Oliver, Touk etc, but I feel confident with this group for now.

    JLloyd Crisp Short
    Sinn Kelly O’Driscoll (McDonagh, Dean)

Crisp is expensive, but as people shared here, he has a prime opportunity with Collingwood and I can’t pass that up. I love Short, but I’m considering Ridley or Whitfield if they have a better series.

    Macrae Steele Titch Parish
Neale Daicos Ward Hobbs (Stephens, Mead, Tsitas)

GD convinced me on Parish and it helped me gain some funds for better rookies. I can upgrade Ward to JHF if I think it’s necessary, but I like Ward for now. Otherwise I’m happy with this line .

    Gawn, Darcy (Comben)

If Hayes is healthy I’ll put Comben to the FWD group and bring in Hayes. Preuss is off the table for me. Too much money sitting on the bench and I can’t see him making enough to justify it. Gawn scares me but even if he averages 118-120, that’s pretty good and Nic Nac/Grundy are the only two I’m considering and I just don’t feel comfortable with the support mids they both have. I could be way off here and I know Gawn will play some FWD and some in the backs but I don’t think that’s the worst thing.

    Dunkley Butters Thomas
Coniglio Hollands De Koning (Butler, Parker)

I love my top 3. Hollands was recently injured, thanks CT for giving us the updates! If he is injured, and it is only a week or 2, I will keep him. Can be a early loophole and then have some cash generation later on. I don’t know anything about Butler or Parker, so they can change at any minute.

Yup that’s it! Tear it apart. Any advice is welcomed. I’m excited for the season to start!

    1. Sam Butler was pick 23 in this last draft for us.
Expectation is he definitely gets games, however may have to wait til later in the season. Also makes for a perfect loophole in this situation. He’s seen as a crafty forward with great defensive work and some blistering acceleration. (Just what we need at the Hawkers)

Charlie Parker is a mature-aged recruit. Doggies usually only bring them in if the intent is to play them. Also priced incredibly cheap @102k.

      11

      0
      1. Butler might have a few ahead of him for a small forward role. obviously Bruest & Moore and also Brookman looks like he will get a start round 1.

Sam Mitchell will be looking for forward pressure, will never replicate Cyril or Poppy but good things are being said about both Butler and Seamus Mitchell

Ward doesn’t look certain for round 1 either, Newcombe has been tearing up the match sims and will probably keep him out.

Maginness has been getting plenty of midfield time and will be vying with Macdonald for a round 1 start. macdonald has been the pick of the rookies so far at the hawks.

        2

        0
    2. If you are looking for a more exciting R3, Look no further then R/F J. Williams (Not to be confused with R/F B. Williams) From West Coast. He played well in the Match sim and their tall stocks are so decimated he might have to play.

Priced at 117k so cheaper then Comben if he doesn’t play. Also gives you the option to upgrade Mcdonough to a 123k rookie if one looks like a better option.

Would also consider Chesser over Hobbs. Both similarly priced but West Coast is an easy team to get into and he has that D/M DPP which is always nice

      1. Amazing! Appreciate the support and helping me make some hard decisions. From the bombers write-ups. Hobbs seemed to be “the guy to get”. So next question:

        TU: Hobbs TD: Ward

        1

        7
        1. Hobbs is getting a lot of Preseason love. Especially on the Essendon Footy Club page. (They just posted some highlights of his from the intraclub)

It’s just that their team isn’t overly relevant. and they have too much midpriced young talent and that is going to keep the rookies out until injures hit.

  28. Heya Coaches,
Contemplating a midprice Defender. Expecting both to do well this year but who would you back in?

    TU – Coleman
    TD – Milera

Feel free to comment below with any other midprice Defs you would prefer.
    Cheers,
    B321

    1. Leaning towards Coleman atm myself.

Once he got the HB role towards the end of the year he went 87/90/77

Supposedly having a great pre-season and is expected to continue playing off that HB role.

      9

  29. Still fiddling around with things here. Which of these two defender and midfield combos sound better?

TU – DEF: Lloyd, Ridley, Short, Sinn, Kemp, Kelly (McDonagh, Dean)
MID: Macrae, Mitchell, Parish, Petracca, Neale, JHF, Daicos, Maginness (O’Driscoll, Mead, Tsitas)

TD – DEF: Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Coleman, Sinn, Kemp (McDonagh, Dean)
MID: Macrae, Steele, Miller, Neale, Caldwell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (O’Driscoll, Mead, Tsitas)

    13
  30. My team so far,
D- Crisp,Whitfield, Sicily, Sinn, Chesser, Odriscoll,( Mcdonagh, Dean)
M- Steele, Oliver, Titch, Neale, Rowell, Berry, Caldwell, Daicos, ( Ward,Parker, Tsitas)
    R- Gawn, English, ( Combden)
F- Thomas, Heeney, Butters, Jackson, Rayner,Cogs, ( Maginness , Hollands)
My thinking is: every player is capable of scoring 100 . Except for the genuine premos every player can make money. It’s a bit different from the cookie cutter teams and after the 2nd round I can do a couple of corrective trades. ie toss the two worst performing mid pricers for the best rookie and something else.
If you’ve had a couple of drinks and your squinting real good, how many keepers do you think I have?
    Thanks

      1. Hey mate,
        You’re totally right.
It will either put me ahead of the pack or I’ll be playing catch up.
I keep telling myself 3 things,
        1- fortune favours the bold.
2- high risk , high reward.
        3- you’re a &%&#@! Idiot
        Thanks for the feedback.

        11

        0
        1. If your dead set on going that high risk there’s two things you need to do.

          1. Find an extra 30k to upgrade Oliver to Macrae. He’s the most reliable walk up captain and has an easy start to the season. A good captains score is 123 and he averages 130 and plays early most weeks. Must have.

          2. Go with 1 less mid and an extra premium defender. Just to take some rookies off the field. There are some 200k mids that could get you a ton or close (JHF, McRae, Constable ect) bring in one for Titch and bring in a 500k premium defender.

          3

          0
        2. I’m really unsure on this one aces.

The rucks are a mess and there’s too many midfield midpricers. Thats where all the good rookies are. You only really want one, you can swap to the best one !

I would start with English and Jackson to Darcy / Grundy even Marshall. Then get Curnow forward. Curnow and Grundy should outscore those boys easily and Curnow should actually make $$ . This should also leave you cash to get at least Dunkley ( or another Premo mid. ) for one of Rowell / Caldwell or Berry . JHF looks a must at this stage as well.

Best of luck and happy planning

          3

          0
            1. Aces Theory is about getting as many potential 100 point keeper players as possible. Witts Doesn’t work as a potential R2 keeper. At his best he’ll still be pretty well short of Gawn/Grundy/Darcy/NicNat.

With English in a best case scenario is he Shifts forward after the buys and one of Thomas/Butters/Heeney/Cogs is scoring well enough to be an M8 or better due to more mid time and slides to that line.

If Aces was to follow my suggestions and bring in JHF + a premo Defender (say lloyd since the money works) for Titch. If everything went perfectly va DPP swaps in Rd 6 his 100+ keeper scorers could be

DEF LLoyd, Crisp, Whitfield, Sicily, Daicos
MID: Macrae, Steele, Neale, Rowell, Butters, Heeney, Caldwell, Berry
              Ruck: Gawn
Forwards: Thomas, English, Jackson, Cogs, Rayner, JHF.

you use 2 trades for rookie corrections in rd 2, up to 6 trades in rounds 6 and 7 to get an extra Ruck/Defender. and then you are full Premo in Rd 6. pumping out 2500 scores. having only used up to 8 trades and 1-2 boosts.

It’s far more likely that most of these players won’t average 100 and definitely not the 115+ required to be a top 8 Mid.

Thats why its called midprice madness. The Prospect is tantalizing. but trying to work out that perfect combination of mid pricers is enough to drive you insane. and it ends up costing you more trades then you save when you need to sideswap your whole team

              3

              0
    1. I don’t mind this team. You have had a crack at doing something different and are right about being able to make a couple of corrective trades after rounds two or three.
And who knows a couple of your midpricers might end up being this year’s Impey, Jiath or Walker and everyone will wish they had them.

This is a great site and I get a lot from it but if we followed all the comments we would all end up with roughly the same team.

      9

  31. here it is
Lloyd, Crisp, Ridley, Sinn*, Chesser, De Koning* (O’Driscoll, Dean)
Macrae, Steele, Touk, Laird*, Neale, JHF, Daicos, Erasmus (Maginness, MacDonald, Tsitas)
    Darcy, Grundy (Hayes)
Dunkley, Thomas, Cogs, Curnow, Rachele, Skinner (Hollands, Parker)

    Torn on 4-4 d-m or 3-5 d-m premo ratio
currently at 5 mids, BUT if want to go to 4 DEF than Laird and De Koning will become Short and Coleman (Sinn going into mids)

one to watch for me is if i can hop on the mid pricers who score well at the start who i missed out on last year (Ziebell Imprey CJ) lot of luck but if i keep an eye on CT coaches box updates it cant hurt

    cheers

  32. Got Heeney in my team coz I don’t learn from my mistakes. But Butters had a positive intraclub match with lots of CBA’s what to do?

  39. My “13 keepers” proposed line up:

Crisp, Dawson, Whit, Sicily, Sinn, Chesser (De Koning, Dean)

Steele, Miller, Oliver, Bont, JHF, Daicos, D Stephens, O’Driscoll (Hollands, Mead, Tsitas)

    Gawn, Grundy, Comben

De Goey, Heeney, Butters, Cogs, Curnow, Maginnes (Kelly, Butler)

45-50% of coaches have Lloyd, Macrae, Neale, Dunkley and 20% have Mitchell so not having them will be the make or break of my SC year…..no risk, no reward though and extra trades might allow quick fixes if this line up is total rubbish.

    Some thoughts:

Whit and Sic could become Lloyd and Coleman (+100k) but risk/reward says this is a better choice imo and Lloyd unlikely to go up much in price.

Bont could become Macrae but I started Bont last year and it wasn’t a big deal (got Macrae after the byes) and Bont could get DPP which would make him a must have forward

Neale might stay at 100pt avg but if he’s back to uber premium scoring, the extra trades can fix this quickly

Mitchell I want but there’s more downside here with the coach change and rebuild at Hawthorn

Dunkley averaged 72 after returning from
injury last year and is 120k more expensive, want to see if he goes bang first

Bring on the thumbs down people!

    Comments welcome

  40. Copied from the afl app. Should we be concerned about Neal?

Gun youngsters Cam Rayner and Zac Bailey will be given opportunities to become permanent onballers, a situation which would require positional shifts for established midfield stars Lachie Neale, the 2020 Brownlow medallist, and Jarryd Lyons.

    2

    2
    1. Just saw your comment. Yes it is a concern. I mean he will still probably score ok as he can hit the scoreboard but can’t see him returning to his Brownlow scoring season.

      4

      1
  41. So, Lions have said Neale and Lyons will spend less time in the guts this season. Lyons to spend time forward, Neale forward and on a wing. Rayner and Bailey are the two likely to get more time on ball. Not sure Neale is still a lock.

    7

    1
    1. This Neale role change news has me shitting myself.

      https://www.afl.com.au/news/705619/brownlow-mid-set-for-switch-lions-plotting-new-look-engine-room

Neale slotting back in as a pure MID and #1 CBA attendee was critical to him going back to a 120+ average.

First reaction is Lloyd down to Sicily and Grundy down to Marshall (if fit) to finance:

Neale -> Parish (or another premo MID, Bont, Titch, etc)
      FWD rookie -> Rayner.

Lloyd (110) down to Sicily (95) and Grundy (120) down to Marshall (105) probably costs 30 points but if the Lions midfield shake up materializes Neale in a blended MID/wing/HF role probably does 110 and Rayner properly on ball 85.

So, Neale (110) to Parish (125) and a FWD rookie (50) to Rayner (85) is an additional 50 points, offsetting the changes by 20.

Could be overreacting. Comes down to how much of a role change Neale has. If it’s just wing and HF stints and he’s still on a strong/close to team high CBA load, it should be fine. But if Fagan really robs Peter (Neale & Lyons) to pay Paul (Rayner & Bailey), we’ll have to adjust accordingly.

      4

      1
      1. I am not greatly concerned, Neale played wing in latest match sims but had plenty of CBA’s and was dominate. He has been BOG so I cannot imagine that he will be missing large amount of mid time.

Sure Rayner and Bailey had more CBA’s and mid time but that is too be expected as they develop.
BTW. both have been impressive. Rayner has always been in my team this year and now with this announcement I expect many others too.

The one who could suffer is Lyons but then again he is such a consistently good player, but with a historically low ownership to not matter to most.

It is just an evolution of a midfield. How much of change affecting supercoach scores?
We will see. For me I am starting Neale as his fitness, price and outstanding form in match sims is too hard to ignore.

        2

        0
        1. Yeah. I probably end up starting him as well, CT. Has been in all my drafts, just wanted to tinker around with a side without him and see how it looked.

It’s still an annoying role change though, to whatever extent it materializes.

          1

          0
          1. I’m willing to start Neale regardless.

He is only priced at 100 and with his preseason form, he will average that in his sleep playing pretty much anywhere. In my small mind…Preseason if full of smoke and mirrors. When the whips are cracking you don’t leave a Brownlow medalist on the forward flank. Neale will be in the middle, back to his piggish ways.

            5

            0
      2. IMO……he will be coming off the “wing” as a receiver to protect himself from the crashing and tagging that he will cop starting in the middle…..around the ground business as usual..
……or maybe it will be the other way round…???

  42. Hey everyone,

Would love some thoughts on my current side.

DEF: Dawson, Ridley, Short, Whitfield, Sinn, O’Driscoll (Dean, Uwland)

MID: Macrae, Steele, Oliver, Neale JHF, Daicos, Ward, C.Macdonald (Soligo, Parker, Tsitas)

    RUCK: Darcy, Grundy (Hayes)

FWD: Hawkins, Z. Bailey, Thomas, Rayner, Cogs, Hollands (Comben, Skinner)

I really want T.Mitchell but unsure how to fit him in as I think my Midfield is pretty set in terms of premos. Thinking I might ditch Short and Daicos to fit Mitchell in but still undecided as rate both.

    2

    1. I’d seriously look at turning Clarry -> Titch & Hawkins -> Dunkley.

If Dunkley starts the season firing, you’re gonna be behind the pack.
Too big a risk out of the gate IMO.

      6

      1
  43. Oliver to Titch not that much difference, both have the same bye and both capable of going 120

Hawkins if you can stomach the rollercoaster each week could be ok and a certain POD but players tend to drop off with age plus Cameron has done a full pre season and Danger likely to spend much more time up there.

I don’t mind the no Dunkley selection (I actually think he’ll average 80-90 at best) and there’s safer options than Hawk imo plus 50k ITB if you go for Degoat, Butters, Heeney instead.

    Good luck!

    1

    0
    1. Like the De Goey option – his form late last year is too hard to ignore.

Feel lots of the popular FWD options are injury-prone and with Whitfeild in my side I don’t want to risk anyone else. That’s why I chose Hawkins – he always seems to crack into the top 8 FWDs with all his goals + goal assists but agree the inconsistency is a worry.

Think I will switch out Oliver for Titch and then Hawkins for De Goey for now. See how I go. Butters definitely on my radar.

      4

      0
  44. Re Neale news.
think i’m going to go with the basic 3.5-5-2-3 structure many had and then just flip Neale for a defender going 4.5-4-2-3. possibly start Crisp/Whitfield who were already in my Def at M5. to keep the same rookie structure.

Seems the simplest change to make

    2

  45. Hey everyone,

    Team so far

DEF: Lloyd, Dawson, Ridley, Sinn, O’Driscoll, Gould (Dean, Uwland)

MID: Macrae, Steele, Clarry, Parish, Neale, JHF, N.Daicos, Ward (Roberts, Clark, Tsitas

    RUCK: Gawn, Darcy (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Rayner, Coniglio, Curnow, Hollands (Pedlar, Butler)

Rookies obviously gonna charge with round 1 selections

Don’t know between clarry, parish, bont, titch with that D3 or D4 spot.
Waiting on if Dawson will get enough time in the mid and rucks are subject to charge as well, don’t know if Gawn will be his dominate self with him probably going down forward more or resting more with Jackson, R1 and R2 are between Gawn, Grundy, Darcy and Nic Nat

    Happy for feedback
