  3. Hey Guys,
This is my team this year. Its about my fifth year of SuperCoach and i had a ripper year last season, some things im not keen on is the 3 hawk rookies on the bench and the weak foward line. I have been switching and swapping players in the past few weeks so If you lads have any feedback it would be much appicated.

    4.6k Salary

    DEF:
Ridley, J. Short, Whitfield, Hewett, Sinn, P. McCartin. (Gibcus, S de Koning)

    MID:
Macrae, Steele, T. Miller, Neale, Rowell, J. Berry, JHF, N. Daicos. (J. Ward, C. MacDonald, Long)

    RUC:
    Gawn, Grundy. (J. Hayes)

    FWD:
Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Xerri, Rachele, C. Durdin. (N. Martin, H. Dixon)

Of course some rookies i have may not get a game so ill have to wait for the teams to make a final decision. Im happy for any feed back and suggetions.

    1. Hey, Harley.

Nice team, very structurally sound. I’ve pretty much got the exact same thing – not much to add lol.

Honestly, I’d sit on that till teamsheets.

      Best of luck!

  4. Final team

Crisp, Ridley, Short, Whitfield, Hewitt, Chapman (McCartin, Uwland)

Macrae, Touk, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, Berry, Daicos, Ward (MacDonald, Hough, Long)

    Grundy, English (Hayes)

Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Rachele, De Koning (Martin, Dixon)

Love the team but am a bit concerned about forward line as is a bit weak. I think that defence has to be very strong because of lack of rookies. Any idea how to make team better or is this good?
Hewett to rookie and then I can get a 200-300k forward and extra cash to beef rookies?

    1. Naish seems like he will have a pretty good role on the wing for the Eagles, especially with all the injuries they have. Personally, I would pick him, but could go either way

      2

      1. Agree GGG

I think they both have decent job security. Naish has better role security . Hugo could be moved out of defence with Vlastuin back in. Hugo could still work. I just think now with Kelly ( Covid) now missing makes Naish look even better.

  5. The game needs more variance for team creation.
Something along the lines of smaller strategies.
Eg, select two fwd from the same team and they both get 2 goals in a game you get +50pts. Or two mids from the same team get 25+disposals get bonus points, 2 def get 4 intetcep marks bonus points.
3 players or 5-6 players do a similar achievement get bonus points.
Something to make teams a bit different other than 4 or so players.

    1. The only way I could see more variation in team selection is lowering the salary cap. That way you are forced into the mid-pricers in order to field enough consitient scoring players each week.

    2. I have degrees in nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, relativity theorems, and several other phd’s such as mathematical algorithms derived from pi, but I dont think I could develop a scoring model for this !!

  7. Running two teams and I am so split between them! Would absolutely love some feedback here…

    TU:
DEF: crisp short Ridley Whitfield Sinn McCartin (O’Driscoll de koning)

MID: Macrae Miller Neale Rowell Berry JHF Daicos Ward (MacDonald DStephens soligo)

    RUCK: Gawn Grundy (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley heeney Butters Cogs xerri Rachele (Martin Dixon)

    Bank: 72k.

    TD:
DEF: crisp short Whitfield Hewett sinn McCartin (O’Driscoll de koning)

MID: Macrae Steele Miller Neale Rowell JHF Daicos (ward macdonald Soligo)

    RUCK: Gawn English (Hayes)

FWD: Dunkley Butters Cogs xerri McGovern Rachele (Martin Dixon)

    Bank: 35k.

It’s basically Steele, English, McGovern and Hewett VS ward, Grundy, Heeney and Ridley.

I hate losing an uber in the midfield but it really strengthens my side down forward, back and ruck….. English FYI would eventually swing forward he’s not my season R2 just gives me a chance to weigh up Grundy and Darcy

    9

    3
    1. Or I can axe Ridley in TU and go Hewett D4 and Chapman D5 to bat a bit deeper I don’t trust hinge gibcus or Sinn onfield to be reliable week to week. Let us know ya thoughts

  8. Have played around with different structures but have landed here, any quick suggestions would be much appreciated cheers.

Backs: Ridley, Short, Hewitt, Chapman, Gibcus, Mccartin (de Koning, o’Driscoll)
Mids: McCrae, Miller, Brayshaw, Neale, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos (Ward, D.Stephens, Cmac)
    Rucks: Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)
Forwards: Dunkley, Dusty, Butters, Cogs, Rachele, Baldwin ( Hayes, Hollands)

Obviously back line is my weakest line at this point but I’m backing Hewitt in to score close to premo points early doors and I think my midfield depth will make enough money early to upgrade down back asap. Have toyed with losing dusty to upgrade other spots but my gut feel is that he’s in for a big year and I’m backing him in.

  9. TU: Ridley D2 & Hinge D5

    Defence line as it stands

    RUCK; Gawn & Grundy (Dixon)

FWD; Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Ralphsmith, Rachele (McEntee, Hayes)

Been changing this around a fair bit. Not massively keen on the Sicily pick however I don’t have the funds to go upto Lloyd at this stage. Please don’t suggest hewett as I don’t rate that pick. Need to try and come up with funds to have on hand in case Sinn isn’t named also.
    Currently have $11,900 ITB.

    Thoughts appreciated!!

    1. Would downgrade Grundy to a Primo ruck in the 500k range for extra funds. RoB (Adelaide) or Hickey (Swans) seem a good pickup and have a friendly bye (rd13)

  11. Hey guys, quick question regarding round 1 teams.

When will all the lineups for round 1 come out? because for my team the rookies that are selected drastically change how my structure will look, however, I wont be able to make those changes if the teams come out on thursday night, after the melbourne vs dogs game, So i am hoping all the teams will come out on wednesday night.

      1. damn that sucks for me. I was waiting to see if sinn was playing. If he was I would probably end up taking out English, however, wont be able to do that unless port say he is debuting before the teams are released

        Thanks anyway

      2. Correct CT. With rolling lockout, it shouldn’t be that difficult to manage. Only prob would be going for Sunday rookies named in extended lists only for them not to play. We all start equal in this problem. And you are also right…most teams announce starting rookies early for the pr, especially r1.

  12. Going back and forth with this one.

    T/U Hewett but no Rowell.

    T/D Chapman with Rowell.

Trying to fit in both Berry/Rowell with bench cover across all lines is proving stressful and the season hasn’t even started yet. Cheers

  14. This is a team I am toying with in case the backline rookies I am counting on don’t come up.

I know my midfield is light on, however I see that as the place to get the best cash generation with reliable rookies/midpricers.

DEF: Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Gibcus (DeKoning, Uwland LOOP).

MID: Steele, Petracca, Neale, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward (D.Stephens, C.Stephens, MacDonald).

    1. Remove Dean and Clark their both injured and won’t play for the first half of the season. Recommend going Paddy McCartin/Josh Gibcus and Dylan Stephens.

    1. Nice Team, Super Strong mids and decent def but I’d go Sinn to Gibcus if you can get there

      2

      0
  23. Last bench place. If both named:
    TU: C.Stephens
    TD: Hough

Similar numbers in the preseason game. Encouraged by WCE comments on debuts. Currently have Stephens (If I had the cash I would go D.Stephens but can’t get there)

    3

    4
  24. Is Gibcus a must have?
I have Hinge and considering going to Gibcus (My team can be seen a couple above this one)
TU – Yes must have, get in your team
TD – Hinge is better option

  25. Hey guys need help with this one

    T/U Whitfield (D3), Chapman (D4), Grundy (R2)

    T/D Short (D3), Whitfield (D4), Witts (R2)

    11

    6
  26. Think I am going around in circles here. New team for the VI thread. Gone from having stronger def, then strong mids, then strong fwd back to strong Def. Less guesswork in Def.

Not sold on JHF, Heeney, Whitfield, Xerri. Currently have Xerri which is more a wait and see. If JHF smashes it and Xerri fails can be an easy swap at the same price point sub Maginness to fwds.

Would love to have Touk but don’t want Touk and Rowell in the same starting side. Would love Steele especially for the easy start Saints have but can’t fit him in. Think Cripps can get back to form with an improving Carlton side and will easily be M7 or 8 (more so than Rowell). Fwds are mostly value picks as I can see replacing the whole lot except Dunkley.

Def – Lloyd, Crisp, Ridley, Short, Gibcus, Mccartin (De Koning, Akuei)

Mid – Macrae, Oliver, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, Berry, Daicos, Ward (C.Stephens, MacDonald, Maginness)

    Ruc – Gawn, Grundy (Hayes)

Fwd – Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Xerri, Rachele (Martin, Dixon)

    5

    0
  27. Backs – Lloyd, Crisp, Whitfield, Sicily, McCartin, De Koning (O’Driscoll, Dean)

Mids – Steele, Mitchell, Neale, Cripps, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos (Hollands, MacDonald, Butler )

    Rucks – Darcy, Grundy (Dixon)

FWDS – Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Cogs, Rachele,
    McGinness (Kelly, Martin)

After weeks of restarting and changing I think I’m set..

Pick it apart lads . What needs to change

  28. TU: D. Stephens & S. Darcy

  31. This is my final draft before The First Defenestration (copyright Father Dougal):

Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Hewett, McCartin (Gibcus, De Koning)
Macrae, Oliver, Neale, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward (DStephens, MacDonald, Hough)
    Gawn, Marshall (Hayes)
Dunkley, Heeney, Butters, Coniglio, Rachele, Baldwin (Durdin, NMartin)

I remain thoroughly unconvinced in several areas, most notably leaving out Jack Steele after nominating him as my first picked just a few weeks ago! The lack of rookie defenders has forced my hand there unfortunately.

    Rip in

    1. Hello Chillo !

I have had looked at this kind of structure and I just can’t do it. I need at least 3 big mids and Neale. Even if Rowell holds on to M8, recruiting 4 other midfielders is going to be tough. They are all likely $580K+ Thats a heap of cash to find in a rookie dry year. I also want the option of recruiting at least 2 of the Defenders I don’t start. Guys like Lloyd , Dawson , Stewart. There are also guys like Pendles and McGrath that may get Defender status at R6. I really think you limit yourself starting Sicliy and Hewett. I actually prefer Hewett as he can at least swing with Daicos ( hopefully ) after R6 . I’m confident Sinn gets named. If he’s not he’s playing early, I’m temped to start him on my bench anyway as an early loop.

I’m trying to say I think there will be enough rookies in defence to run 2 on field

You may know better than me, you were here when I started ! I’m just not sure that the Defenstration you predict is that dire.I have decided to sacrificed an effigy to the SuperCoach gods, so that Kemp and Hinge may appear healthy and ready to play 😉
Maybe I’m just in denial ?

Actually don’t change it , you’re probably right, and I will eat my words. I haven’t really been helpful have I ?

      Good luck Chillo !

      5

      0
      1. Haha thanks mate! No you are exactly right, and I have been switching between Sicily and Hewett all pre-season. The lack of def rooks forced me to put both in and sacrifice the mid premo you mentioned.

Of course, should Hinge and/or Kemp and/or Sinn beat my expectations and be named for round 1, then I’ll have to do some rearranging. The hard choice then will be Steele or Miller?

        Fun times coming up!

        5

        0
        1. I’ve actually got Miller now ( my team still says Steele oops )

The Saints look like sliders this year and although the stricter interoperation of the holding the ball rule should help his game. I just feel he may lack the support to repeat last year, at least early. I’m clutching at straws really.I will still try to get him in as early as possible . I do like Miller. He does look to have better support from a fit Rowell and resurgent Witts ( he didn’t have a tap ruck man all last year ) Anderson takes Greenwoods role. This is shaping as a competitive midfield.
Miller also has more Sunday games so is great as a fall back Captain.

          Miller for me, just.

          Best of luck in 2022.

  32. My team is pretty basic and I would like to find ways to improve so comment ideas, please.

Def- lloyd, ridley, short, whitfield, gibcus, mccartin (W.Kelly,SDK)
Mid- Macrae, steele, miller, neale, J.Berry, N.Daicos, Ward, Stephens (Macdonald, hough, long)
    Ruc- Gawn, Grundy (Hayes)
Fwd- Dunkley, Duncan, Coniglio, Brodie, Rachele, N.Martin (C.Durdin, Dixon)

Overall this team leaves me with $47,400 to spend

    3

    1. Duncan is struggling to be ready for round 1, even if he is, you don’t want one of your high priced premos with an injury cloud.

other than that is looks like a good team

    1. Might need another cheap defender as backup maybe swap Kelly into the forwards for Holland’s and use the money for Hinge,Gibcus and change Comben too Dixon

      4

    2. Hello AJ .

I like the Premo’s, I just think you need to replace a few rookies .

Wormer, Hollands and your defensive bench won’t play. look at getting in some warm bodies.

You’ve saved 50K so you should be able to make a few work. If you swap Hayes for Comben (not likely )and get Martin ( Ess) Forward. McEntee and Baldwin are other forwards that are likely to play.

In defence we need to spend up . Gibcus or Sinn and McCartin need to come in as warm bodies so you can Bench SDK I’m unsure Kelly plays. This may require re jigging your midfield. Its worth it, you need playing rookies.

      Best of luck in 2022.

    3. I was looking through some of the teams on this site and they all seem to be quite low on mids and have quite a few premo defenders. Can anyone explain to me why that is?

      1

      1
      1. Hi Anonymous Jude,
Because of the expected dearth of defensive rookies. Many have insulated themselves from the chaos of non playing rookies by fortifying their backline by having more premo’s and/or cow like objects.
The midfield seems to have a plethora of potential playing rookies.

After all, having playing cash cows is the goal to enable us to improve our teams.

        Good luck for 2022.

Hopefully have enough cover and have taken into account dual position upgrades
    Any feedback is welcome

    1. G’Dog.

I love Serong as a player but in SC he’s just too awkwardly priced .He still has managed minutes and although a breakout candidate , he’s very unlikely to go 105

Get in Rowell or Berry they should average similar, Rowell maybe more. They are both significantly cheaper, and therefore will make $$. I’m sure you will find a creative solution for the extra cash.

      Maybe upgrade Witts ?

      1. Thinking the same, just not sure yet to do with the extra cash, will probably keep Witts at the moment but not totally sold on him, thanks very much for the feedback , have swapped Serong to Rowell, had( Berry early but concerned Brisbane has so many midfield options,) which makes Witts even more valuable? Leaves me $117,200 mmmmmm what too do with the extra cash

        1. Swing Mccartin Forward and get in my boy Chapman. Curnow is made of glass. 😉

Or you just go Curnow to the Gov.

Just redid my team. 3 spots I am undecided on. With about 600k I can get 2 rookies and a 300k player. Please give ideas.

Am thinking Hinge and McEntee/N Martin, and then a mid range mid

  38. Is 4 players from 1 team too many? or does it not matter, if they are good, shouldn’t matter what team. dont want to name the players either.

would love to hear some thoughts too, dont want to name the players, just want to

  39. posted full team to get an idea of full structure 🙂 but in summary it’s:
TU – Steele, Sinn, gibcus & McGovern
TD- ward, Hewett, chapman & heeney
I have TU probably giving me 310 pts a week and TD giving me 330 but miss jack Steele.

    TU –
Defence – crisp short Whitfield hinge Sinn McCartin (gibcus de koning)
Midfield – Macrae Steele Miller Neale Rowell Berry JHF Daicos (ward Stephens MacDonald)
    Ruck – gawn Grundy (Dixon)
Forwards – dunks butters Cogs McGovern xerri rachele (Martin Hayes)

    TD –
Defence – crisp short Whitfield Hewett chapman hinge (McCartin de koning)
Midfield – Macrae Miller Neale Rowell Berry JHF Daicos ward (soligo Stephens MacDonald)
    Ruck – gawn Grundy (Dixon)
Forwards – dunks heeney butters Cogs xerri rachele (Martin Hayes)

  41. Garryowen Version V

DEF: Lloyd, Short, Whitfield, Sicily, Hewett, McCartin (Sinn / Wilmot)
MID: Macrae, Neale, Cripps, Neale, Rowell, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward (D Stephens / MacDonald / Hough
    RUCK: Darcy & Grundy (Dixon)
FWD: Dunks, Heeney, Buters, Coniglio, Brodie, Rachele (Durdin, Martin)

    $35k in the bank

The big structure change here is going super lean in the mids. No Touk OR Steele. Just feel we have 3 x mid prices that are just too much value to ignore & 3 x rooks that MUST be on field. That only leaves 2 spots for Macrae & Neale.

Absolute best case scenario, I could have 15 keepers here. Clearly relying on Cripps & Rowell to average 100 each but i’d prefer to rely on them, than Chapman, McGovern, Hinge etc that most other s are hoping hit pay dirt (albeit to a lesser extent).

Also seeing soooooo many teams out there that have 2 or 3 def rookies selected that are highly unlikely to play. I know having cheap rooks son the bench looks good and frees up cash but rookies don’t generate cash or provide cover if they ain’t playing. I know I have Wilmot but am backing him to find a way into that Brisbane side in the next couple of weeks with Coleman out.

Am I crazy? Keen to hear your thoughts.

    1. You have some real midprice madness here.

If you think Cripps is a fallen keeper premium who will play all season then your midfield is excellent and you got a jump on everyone else (just like the people who got Arron Hall at 400k last year)

Biggest issue is only 10 real keepers. Id only want 2 of of Heeney/Butters/Sicily/Hewett. Turn one into a mid pricer (value is in the forwards) and then turn 1 or 2 of the defenders into real 500k premos.

T/U: Grundy, NMartin (F8), Def loop

    1. 120 50 = 170
      90 75 65 = 230

On paper, you’d go Option #2.

However Option #1 has far less risk, a guaranteed keeper, an occasional C option and loophole flexibility. Option #2 consists of 2x players returning from ACLs and another with a thrice popped shoulder, all have limited ceilings and gives your side a massive injury profile.

      I’d go Option #1.

  44. All – as we have started to see here in the AFL news – players already being left out with catching COVID

I also play NRL SC – after this first week of games, starting to hear news now of players being stood down today catching COVID … after just playing … which is good chance team mates infected and opposition infected …

SO – word of warning – this is the main reason we have the extra 5 trades and the trade boost function. Make sure you select as many DPP players across lines that you can … think it will be key this year to having team on park, saving trades and scoring …

    Something to consider …

  48. Two days out, I’m thinking this will be my side on Wednesday bar a couple of rookies (* indicating that spot won’t be solidified until the teams come out).

DEF: Lloyd, Crisp, Short, Chapman, Gibcus, McCartin (Sinn, *Boyd)
MID: Macrae, Miller, Oliver, Neale, Rowell, JHF, Daicos, Ward (D. Stephens, Hough, Parker
    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (Dixon)
FWD: Dunkley, Butters, Coniglio, Brodie, Ralphsmith, Rachele (De Koning, Martin*)

    $24,400 remaining

In the backline, Chapman is pretty much my only gamble, but I’m set on playing him. If I had someone else at D4, it would probably be Sicily. But I’d have to downgrade Oliver, Brodie, Ralphsmith or one of my premo rucks to do that, and I’m not wanting to part with any of them. Boyd will obviously depend on if he gets selected, or if a cheaper back rookie gets selected for Rd.1.

Mids are completely set to the bench. Parker will be my loophole+DPP option if I need it.

In the rucks for most of the pre-season, I was set on Nic Nat and Darcy until the last week or so. Nic wasn’t at training today, and Darcy has had a thumb issue I believe (plus I think Freo are looking to share some of the ruck duties between him and Meek). So in the end I’ve gone for the Grawndy combo. It’s the safe pick, and they definitely looked to be the best performing rucks over the pre-season (yet again).

Forwards are mostly set. I really do like the look of Brodie, and I don’t think his scores will be heavily affected once Fyfe returns. Either way, he’ll still make quite a bit of cash I think. I’ve decided to stick with Ralphsmith over Xerri too, I think his scoring has a safer bet to be more consistent. I don’t know if Xerri has the main ruck role over Goldstein, and that’s the part that makes me unsure of his consistency potential. Martin’s spot on the bench will be out of him, Hayes or Baldwin. Whichever of those guys gets the nod this week.

    1. I’d look at getting rid of either Xerri / Brodie / McGovern and swinging Rachelle forward. Then swapping one of Bowey / Chapman to Sinn (via dpp) / Hinge / Gibcus and using the funds to try grab Rowell.

Midfield too light as it stands, along with too many midpricers in the DEF / FWD lines IMO.

  54. I’ve flirted with two structures . An English/Steele and a gawn lineup…

TU: Steele English Sinn & McGovern
TD: NLong gawn Hewett & Heeney.

My gut wants TU for Steele to go deeper in the midfield and English to finish forward eventually and get a look at my R2 and get a discount on gawn . But head says TD
