Reserves Rookie Review – Round 4 2022

Written by Alza on April 13 2022

We continue to get rookies each week. That will continue as there are still some stand out performers in the reserves like Stephens, Hayes, Callaghan, Hollands and dare I say it even Gould. Perfect timing as we look to start our upgrades in the coming weeks. I have reduced the number of players in this review so if there is anyone you would like to know about then please let me know in the comments.

Ned Moyle $123.9k RUC – 9 disposals (6 kicks), 5 tackles, 28 hitouts and 3 clearances – 71 (85/3)

Verdict: Andrew had a great game here playing down back I believe with 8 marks as did McLennan with 7 marks. Moyle was good in the ruck again and if they give Witts a rest he will come in. Hollands was great again with 22 touches a goal and 5 clearances, will be a very good downgrade option when he comes in.

BOX HILL HAWKS (HAWTHORN)
Box Hill 15.9.99 def. Sandringham 7.14.56

Verdict: No real stand out games although Long did have a game high 11 tackles as well as team high clearances. Will likely be changes for the Hawks but they have some experienced players in the VFL like Shiels and Phillips.

Toby Bedford $123.9k FWD – 16 disposals (3 kicks) – 38 (67/3)
Kade Chandler $123.9k FWD – 10 disposals (6 kicks), kicked 2.3, 3 marks and laid 5 tackles – 72 (67/3)

Verdict: Not many relevant Demons in the VFL this season as they continue their great form and good run with injuries. Bedford backed up after being the sub in the AFL again but had 13 handballs from his 16 touches. Chandler played well kicking 2.3 from his 10 touches.

Verdict: Rioli had a good game here finding the ball 21 times, Banks had his best game with 19 touches and plenty of work around the ground while Sonsie was pretty good but not quite as good as he was last week.

Verdict: Owens was good in this game with 23 touches as was Allison down back. Allison isn’t that relevant but has been around for a while and 18 touches for him is a fair bit as a key backman.

SYDNEY
Port Melbourne 10.5.65 def. by Sydney 10.12.72

Dylan Stephens $202.3k MID – 22 disposals (13 kicks), 4 marks and laid 4 tackles – 87 (87/1)

  1. Had Wilmot warming the bench in my side since round 1. Alot of hype about him pre season mitch Robinson even had him in his SC side. But after that suspension rubbed him out he just can’t get a look in. Haven’t had any rookies scream pick me to move him onto so I’m still holding waiting for they debut too come. Hopefully the day comes sooner rather than later.
