Reserves Rookie Review – Round 8 2022

Some solid performers that keep putting their hands up to come into their AFL sides and give us some more rookie options. A few defenders are playing well so let’s hope they can force their way in.

SANFL

ADELAIDE
West Adelaide 11.5.71 def. by Adelaide 19.11.125

Patrick Parnell $123.9k DEF – 19 disposals (13 kicks), kicked 1.0, 5 marks and laid 4 tackles – 86 (70/6)
Josh Worrell $123.9k DEF – 14 disposals (8 kicks), kicked 2.0, 3 marks, 3 tackles and had 4 rebound 50s – 66 (70/6)
Jake Soligo $117.3k MID – 29 disposals (12 kicks), kicked 1.0, 6 marks, 13 tackles, 7 clearances and had 5 inside 50s – 144 (79/5)

Verdict: Parnell and Worrell both had decent games kicking a goal and having a bit of the ball but Soligo was the standout with 29 touches and a game high 13 tackles to go with 7 clearances.

PORT ADELAIDE
Port Adelaide 7.5.47 def. by Woodville-West Torrens 11.7.73

Jed McEntee $123.9k MID/FWD – 16 disposals (7 kicks) and laid 7 tackles – 64 (76/3)
Taj Schofield $123.9k FWD/MID – 21 disposals (14 kicks), 3 marks and laid 7 tackles – 88 (67/6)
Sam Skinner $123.9k DEF/FWD – 13 disposals (10 kicks) and took 5 marks – 57 (47/5)
Jase Burgoyne $117.3k DEF/MID – 19 disposals (14 kicks), 4 marks and had 7 rebound 50s – 68 (72/6)
Dante Visentini $117.3k RUC/FWD – 10 disposals (4 kicks), 3 marks, 9 tackles, 25 hitouts and had 3 clearances – 89 (68/4)

Verdict: Schofield had a great game with 21 touches and 7 tackles while Burgoyne was solid down k with 19 touches and 4 marks. Visentini has lifted since being the main ruckman with 25 hitouts and laid 9 tackles.

Verdict: Mostly everyone played well in their great win. Wilmot and McFadyen were good down back finding plenty of it and taking a lot of marks. Sharp and Michael were great through the middle with almost 50 touches between them and Tunstill and Cox played well up forward or through the middle with plenty of the ball and great work around the ground.

CARLTON

Alex Mirkov $123.9k RUC – 13 disposals (6 kicks), 3 marks, 4 tackles, 54 hitouts and had 7 clearances – 108 (72/7)
Jesse Motlop $117.3k FWD – 17 disposals (12 kicks), 7 tackles and had 6 inside 50s – 73 (72/5)

Verdict: Mirkov is waiting in the wings as a dominant big man with 54 hitouts and 7 clearances with Motlop playing well with 7 tackles and 17 touches.

COLLINGWOOD

ESSENDON
Essendon 9.8.62 def. by Box Hill 23.18.156

Tom Hird $123.9k FWD/MID – 17 disposals (7 kicks), 4 tackles and had 4 clearances – 65 (72/7)
Garrett McDonagh $117.3k DEF – 15 disposals (13 kicks), 3 tackles and had 8 rebound 50s – 55 (65/7)

Verdict: The Bombers were well beaten and their scores show. Hird had 17 touches and laid 4 tackles with McDonagh had 15 touches but didn’t take his normal amount of marks.

GWS GIANTS

North Melbourne 8.10.58 def. by Geelong 10.17.77

Verdict: Neale was the only rookie that played this game and not that relevant as a key forward and backup ruckman.

Elijah Hollands $123.9k MID/FWD – 27 disposals (16 kicks), 5 marks, 12 clearances and had 8 inside 50s – 87 (84/6)
Jez McLennan $123.9k DEF – 16 disposals (8 kicks) and laid tackles – 61 (81/6)
Ned Moyle $123.9k RUC – 20 disposals (12 kicks), kicked 1.0, 6 marks, 48 hitouts, 7 clearances and had 8 inside 50s – 134 (92/6)

Verdict: Hollands and Tsitas both had great games through the middle with plenty of the ball and winning a lot of clearances. Hollands had a game high 12 clearances while Tsitas had a game high 10 tackles. They can’t be far away after playing well consistently in the VFL. Moyle just keeps getting it done with a massive 48 hitouts.

BOX HILL HAWKS (HAWTHORN)

Verdict: Morris played his best game with 22 touches to go with some great work around the game while Long was a bit quieter although he still had 15 touches and laid 6 tackles.

Verdict: Chandler had a great game with a team high 27 touches with marks and 5 tackles while Moniz-Wakefield had his best game with 18 touches and 2 goals.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Verdict: Decent games here by these players but nothing to force their way into the AFL side.

RICHMOND

Verdict: Dow returned from injury with a great game with 25 touches and 6 clearances while Miller had a new role as backup ruck. Martyn was solid won back taking a team high 10 marks with Banks playing forward and kicking 2 goals from his 23 touches. Sonsie can’t be far away now after another great game with a game high 33 touches as well as 5 clearances.

SANDRINGHAM (ST. KILDA)
Sandringham 12.8.80 def. Northern Bullants 6.14.50

Mitch Owens $117.3k MID – 32 disposals (15 kicks), 3 marks, 3 tackles, 10 clearances and had 8 inside 50s – 95 (83/6)

Verdict: Owens was among the best in this game with a game high in touches and clearances. He has strung some nice games together now so could be in line to return.

SYDNEY

Verdict: Stephens played a great well rounded game again with 27 touches with O’Riordan playing his best game with team high 32 touches. Taylor keeps ticking along with another 29 touches and Roberts also played well with a goal and 23 touches.

  1. hey guys might be a stupid question but what happened to pedler ADL just have him sitting on my bench any chance of him playing or is he injured also what is going on with miles bergman was a medi sub 2 weeks ago seemed to go missing aswell ahaha

    1. Hi James, not sure on Pedlar but he has played SANFL up until the weekend just gone. Maybe he was rested or small injury. Bergman has been sick so has missed the last couple of weeks but should be back this week.
