Reserves Rookie Review – Round 9

There are still some decent rookies playing reserves currently and we may see a few debut or play this week with some teams hit by injuries, let’s hope they can play well enough to hold their spots.

McPherson was injured early on to be out for a while now. Borlase and Nankervis had 18 touches with over 7 marks and 3 tackles each. Dowling had 17 touches, 7 marks and a goal in a decent game.

PORT ADELAIDE
Port Adelaide 15.12.102 def South Adelaide 11.8.74

Jackson is in great from with another good game of 24 touches, 4 marks and 9 clearances.

BRISBANE
Brisbane 16.13.109 def Essendon 6.5.41

Lohmann played well kicking 3.1 from 14 touches and 5 marks as did Joyce who took 10 marks and had 13 touches. Madden had 21 touches and 3 marks.

Collingwood 17.9.111 def by GWS 17.11.113

Draper played well in his 2nd game with 24 touches, 5 marks and 6 tackles as did Macrae with 24 touches and 6 tackles. Harrison and Murley kicked 3 goals each and Begg had 17 touches, 7 tackles and 6 clearances.

ESSENDON
Brisbane 16.13.109 def Essendon 6.5.41

Bryan continues to play well with 20 touches, 4 marks, 7 clearances and 29 hitouts. Montgomerie is following suit with 23 touches and 9 marks but a bit of a concern as he didn’t debut last week with some defender injuries, will play this year though hopefully just not too late.

GOLD COAST
Southport 10.14.74 def by Gold Coast 12.4.76

Constable had another great game with 28 touches, 5 marks, 6 tackles and 5 clearances as did Uwland with 22 touches and 6 marks. Moyle played well but not as much as usual with 12 touches, 5 clearances and 32 hitouts and Burgess kicked another 3 goals from 11 touches and 5 marks.

GEELONG
Richmond 11.9.75 drew with Geelong 10.15.75

Clohesy is having a nice season after another good game of 14 touches (all kicks), 4 marks, 11 tackles, 4 clearances and a goal. Willis was a bit quieter this week with 14 touches but still had 7 clearances.

GWS
Collingwood 17.9.111 def by GWS 17.11.113

Rowston had his best game by a fair way with 33 touches, 4 tackles, 1 goal and a massive 19 clearances. Fahey played well again with 26 touches and 5 marks as did Derksen who kicked 5.1 from 15 touches and 7 marks. McMullin had 15 touches, 7 marks, 6 tackles and kicked 1.1 in his best game.

NORTH MELBOURNE
North Melbourne 20.11.131 def Frankston 9.2.56

Phillips played well again with 19 touches and 9 tackles as did Wardlaw with 19 touches, 2 goals and 5 tackles with both a good chance to play AFL this week. Free also had a good game with 15 touches, 29 hitouts and 4 clearances. Special mention to non-rookie ruckman Coleman-Jones who kicked 9 goals.

RICHMOND
Richmond 11.9.75 drew with Geelong 10.15.75

Nyuon had a good game in the ruck with 12 touches, 33 hitouts and a goal and Bauer played well also with 18 touches and 7 marks.

ST. KILDA
Sandringham 11.14.80 def Port Melbourne 8.11.59

Heath remains as the only semi relevant player here with 9 touches, 5 tackles and 15 hitouts.

SYDNEY
Sydney 4.10.34 def by Williamstown 9.13.67

Sheldrick returned to VFL action with an excellent game as he had 36 touches, 6 marks, 9 clearances and a goal and probably plays in the AFL this week. Melican in his 2nd game of the year had 19 touches with 6 marks and is also in the mix. Edwards had his best game with 15 touches, 6 marks and 6 tackles and Rankin played well down back with 18 touches and 6 tackles. McAndrew played well again and may make his debut soon if Ladhams doesn’t return.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
Footscray 8.9.57 def by Werribee 13.13.91

Busslinger has played a few good games in a row now with 18 touches and 8 marks this week. McLean was a bit quieter with just 14 touches but he did lay 8 tackles and take 5 marks.

FREMANTLE
Peel 21.15.141 def West Coast 7.10.52

Some great games here with a few season highs as Peel beat the Eagles convincingly. Worner had 36 touches, 11 marks and a goal with Henry kicking 1.2 from 25 touches, 7 marks and 11 tackles. Wagner had 24 touches and 5 marks while Sturt kicked 2.2 from 24 touches and 8 marks. Emmett had 22 touches, 5 marks, 10 tackles and kicked 1.2. Hamling had 15 touches, 8 marks and a goal and Kuek kicked 3 goals from 14 touches with 6 marks.

WEST COAST
Peel 21.15.141 def West Coast 7.10.52

Trew was one of the best for the struggling Eagles with 32 touches and 5 marks and Chesser got through his 1st game back from injury with 16 touches and 4 marks. Chesser may be the sub this week but is one to bring in for those that traded him out early on.
