Rookie Review – Opening Round 2024

Written by Alza on March 12 2024

Welcome to the unofficial 1st rookie review of 2024, this week will just be a slightly different look at the rookie scores from opening round as we get set for SuperCoach to start this week.

The issue with rookies this year isn’t the availability of them but which ones to start.

Matt Roberts $156.6k MID

76 – A new halfback role has seen Roberts become a real rookie target, 19 touches at 95% with 8 marks. Even had 5 kick ins which is a great show of faith.

Caleb Windsor $180.3k MID/FWD

58 – Windsor had his role on the wing as expected, he was decent with 13 touches and 4 marks.

Bailey Laurie $125.2k FWD

20 – Had 8 touches and was subbed out after 42% TOG, better options available.

Blake Howes $123.9k DEF

91 – Excellent game down back with 17 touches, half contested with 7 marks and 12 intercepts. Should be enough to hold a spot long term.

Josh Schache $123.9k FWD

27 – Just the 4 touches with 2 behinds playing forward and ruck.

Darcy Gardiner $187.8k DEF

57 – Playing up forward this year. He had 11 touches at 100% with 8 score involvements.

Kai Lohmann $150.9k FWD

33 – Was the sub and had 6 touches and 4 marks on the wing in just 36% TOG.

Orazio Fantasia $175.9k FWD

35 – 11 touches at 46% with no shots on goal.

Jack Carroll $123.9k MID

65 – Great game as the sub by Carroll who was at 10 centre bounces in less than a half. 10 touches, 1 goal and 4 clearances all from just 35% game time.

Thomas Berry $163.5k FWD

62 – His 6 touches must’ve been influential to reach this score. Also had 3 marks and 3 tackles in just 60% TOG.

Bodhi Uwland $137.1k DEF

41 – Plays mostly a lock down role which can limit his scoring. 8 touches, 3 marks and 5 one percenters.

Alex Sexton $133.4K FWD

73 – Role confirmed once again! Poor use cost him with 5 clangers from his 21 touches and 8 marks. An absolute steal in our forward lines this year.

Maurice Rioli $175.5k FWD

46 – 7 touches and 2 score involvements in his pressure forward role.

Josh Gibcus $150.7k DEF

76 – Very nice game as a key back with 9 touches, 8 contested, 8 intercepts and 7 one percenters. Job security is as good as it gets.

Seth Campbell $123.9k FWD

70 – 9 touches, 4 tackles and 2 goals on debut. Seemingly unnoticed in preseason but played well.

Sam Naismith $123.9k RUC

93 – Excellent game as the fill in #1 ruck for the Tigers. 11 touches, 9 contested, 25 hit outs, 7 clearances and 6 one percenters. Great bench option if he can squeeze a few weeks in before Nankervis is back, although unlikely.

Aaron Cadman $127.6k FWD

55 – Will be a big improver this season. Kicked 2.1 from 10 touches also attending a few ruck contests.

Jacob Wehr $123.9k MID

48 – Not the score owners were looking for but still positive signs with his role. 11 touches, 4 clearances and 5 score involvements.

Toby McMullin $123.9k FWD

32 – Only 38% TOG as the sub but managed 11 touches at 54% and 3 marks.

Harvey Thomas $117.3k MID/FWD

40 – 9 touches, 3 goal assists and 4 clangers on debut playing as a small forward.

Charlie Dean $123.9k DEF

55 – Nice to see him debut and play well. 9 touches and 6 one percenters but he might only be covering for Howe short term.

  2. Great work. Keeping a close eye on Lohman this week.

When do Opening Round rookies get their price change? End of R1? Or R2 with everyone else?
