Rookie Review – Rd 17, 2021

Written by Chillo on July 13 2021

A ton from a popular rookie Hawk highlights this week’s review. Hopefully you found a way to get Bramble on the field! The bad news is that if you need a downgrade option this week, then you’ll have to be a bit creative. A lot creative, actually.

By the way, it’s only TWO WEEKS until Supercoach finals start.

Here’s a review of the rookie performances from Round 17. Players “on the bubble” are marked with an asterisk.

Ryan GARTHWAITERIC$188 00048 (48)N/A

Goodbye for now: Briggs.

Another great game from Highmore (94% efficiency, 9 intercepts), and he will provide good cover for Whitfield this week if you have both players. Solid effort from Nick Murray in a fairly abysmal Crows outfit (including 10 one percenters), a nice reward for those who have carried him at D8 for the entire season!

James JORDONMEL$405 400 (-$5.6K)78 (75)95

The star of the week was Bramble, who took a bunch of kick ins down at UTAS and wound up with a massive maiden Supercoach ton. Possibly the best loophole option of the year so far! Solid efforts from Garcia, Byrnes and RCD too, and if you have any of these players you may as well keep them as long as they keep playing.

Pedlar is on the bubble, but only seems to be good for a cash grab and not much else. Maybe next year?

Goodbye for now: Reeves

Treacy was actually staring a ton in the face, but some wicked clangers knocked him down to a still respectable score. Job security seems good and he might be worth keeping as a swingman option for your bench. Amartey was quieter this week, but the Swans won so he should hold his spot.

Goodbye for now: Williams

Perkins has been inconsistent as rookies tend to be, but he gave another exciting glimpse into the future for Bombers fans with 18 touches and three goals on the half forward flank. Jeka, Brockman and Holmes were all solid and might be worth a look if you’re after bench cover for the remainder of the season.

Weightman came crashing back to earth and completely stuffed his potential cash gen. Might have more luck against the Suns this week. Then again, given how the Coasters have been going lately, maybe not…

  1. have only 4 trades left for the season. I was going to upgrade CCJ and Robertson to Walsh this week but have missed that boat unfortunately

I still need to trade these two but I also need to preserve trades. I was thinking of the following:
Robertson to Tim Kelly (1 trade) or
Robertson and CCJ to de Goey (2 trades)

    which is the better option

      1. I was keen on him last week but played it safe with Mitchell. If you can get him in 1 trade then I reckon go for it. I think he’ll average 100 or more from here
