Round 17 Review (Part 2)

Written by Dane on July 12 2021

West Coast (8.12.60) defeated by North Melbourne (10.10.70)

1. Jaidyn Stephenson (153). If you think all the way back to round 1, this guy scored a ton and was seriously considered by a lot of coaches. He hasn’t broken 90 since but he had an outstanding game tonight with 38 touches, 10 marks, 1 goal and 547 metres gained.

2. Nic Naitanui (134). Pushed the hundred scoring streak to his 10th straight game as he collected 20 touches (17 contested) with 10 clearances and 37 hit outs.

3. Todd Goldstein/Ben Cunnington (126). The old firm. Goldy broke the all time hitout record sometime during his 31 hit outs, but also kicked 2 goals and had 10 touches, while Cunnington had 25 touches (13 contested), 5 tackles and 1 goal.

4. Jy Simpkin (124). Propelled North forward with 504 metres gained from his 32 touches, while he also claimed 8 marks on a slippery night. Sixth ton of the year.

5. Jack Ziebell (120). Ton number 11 for the year for Ziebell as he rounded out the top 5 with a 27 touch game that ran at 85% DE and gained 533 metres.

Other 100+ scores: Aaron Hall (116), Tim Kelly (115), Shannon Hurn (104), Luke Davies-Uniacke (100)

Disappointment: Luke McDonald was super last year, and has fought through some injuries this year, but so far he’s already lost 100K and it’ll be more after this 15 touch, 72  point effort.

Rookies: There was pretty much only Will Phillips in this game, as he scored 67 from 10 touches (8 contested), 4 clearances, 3 tackles and 90% DE.

Injuries: No subs used on Monday night to finish off the round in a nice way.
