Some nice rookie scores again to help cover some poor scores from so called premiums. And just when it seemed the rookies had dried up another crop put their hand up to keep upgrades ticking along. Some of the original rookies are hitting their peaks and can be traded like Sharp and Dempsey. They have been great rookies and could easily have another good score to start their cash gen again but if you can get a premium then it’s the way to go.
The highest priority I’d say is Sweet. As we’ve seen in the past rucks have access to big scores when solo. He is mature aged and has dominated VFL the last couple of years and now shown plenty against Marshall although he was battling a knock. Inflated price tag but well worth it as he could make 200k in a 4 week patch.
Rogers was very good in his 2nd game and worth considering. He did turn it over a bit but he was in everything at times as his goal assists show.

The Good: Burgoyne is continuing his great form on the wing with 27 touches (11 contested), 8 marks, 4 tackles, 5 clearances and 7 score involvements. What a bounce back game from McKercher returning to half back. He had a massive 32 touches and 7 marks. Was boosted by 12 kick ins which he played on 11 times. Turner played his 1st game of the year in a new role up forward. He kicked 3.1 from 13 touches and 8 marks.
The Bad: Draper unfortunately did his hamstring after 3 touches in 16% TOG. Serong was subbed out after 44% game time with just 2 touches.

Sweet played his 2nd game but this time as the main man in the ruck. He had 11 touches at 91% with 3 marks, 6 tackles and 36 hitouts. Looks like a great option while Soldo is out for the next month or so although don’t expect this score each week. Naismith also played his 2nd game but shared duties this time. He had 9 touches, 4 marks and 9 hitouts.

The Good: Rioli had one of his best games with 2.2 from 14 touches, 7 marks, 4 tackles and 5 score involvements. Darcy has been an excellent rookie for us this year. Another good game from him with 13 touches, 7 marks, 4 tackles and kicked 3.1. Wilson played his best game thanks to 21 touches, 6 marks, 3 tackles and over 500 metres gained.
Time To Trade: Campbell, Dempsey

Ive got 2 boosts left, is it worth burning one to bring Rogers in? Im definitely bringing sweet and dawson in but feel like there isnt a lot of reliable rookies on horizon and hardwick talked Rogers up alot post game so am comfortable with his JS.
Also if you had to choose one to hold would it be brown or lohmann?
Probably not Joey, I’d use it to get 2 premiums but not 2 rookies I think. Best to hold onto the last 2. Without knowing who it leaves on field I’d trade Lohmann first, his job security doesn’t seem as safe as Brown
If im using just 2 trades thinking im leaning to sharp and powell as the two i bump for now. Although maybe if i can afford it will go lohman instead of powell.
Thoughts on Leek Aleer’s JS? Or is he an injury replacement?
I think he’s injury cover, Taylor should be back and Cumming played VFL on the weekend so might come straight back in too. If he’s named with Taylor back then he might be a decent option
Is Sweet’s JS really that solid?
Absolutely, Soldo will miss around a month with a knee clean out similar to Darcy’s at the start of the year. If he averages 90 which I’d back him to do he should make over 200k from the next 4 games.
Great article – always really well written, and easy to follow!!
So the “main rookies / downgrades” would probably be ranked:
1. Sweet
2. Rogers
3. Garcia
I am taking the top two this week, but just got a feeling that Garcia might turn out to be a pretty decent cash cow.
Then for next weeks downgrades, see how blokes like Darcy Jones & Cooper Simpson & Hardemann & Daniel Turner go this week (if they get picked).
Selection will be fascinating at GWS and Sydney this week – with some stars returning to both line ups (3 at GWS & 2 at Sydney).
Will be interesting to see who gives way for these returning stars.
Maybe Darcy Jones ends up being the Sub for GWS?
Thanks BMH, appreciate it.
Yeah that’s how I’d rank them. I am worried that Garcia will be the sub for the Dogs though, hopefully just once and then back into the 22 if that is the case. He is a good scorer when given a good crack at it.
Simpson looked good in about 3/4 of a game and Hardeman was decent and with North struggling should keep his spot you’d think.
I do worry about Jones with the sub as you mentioned, if he isn’t the next 2 weeks he will be a great option. Greene and Daniels back into the 22 this week could push him to the sub playing a similar role and with his speed.
For the next month, it is as solid as something that is really, really solid
I’m stuck on which is better between Rogers and Garcia. Both have red flags to me
Rogers scored 28 against Sydney and then 98 against West Coast. 95% of possessions were in the forward half of the ground. If the Suns don’t get the ball forward he struggles to score and now faces Lions, North, Geelong and Carlton. He’s a quick cash grab to me and relies a lot on this week’s score against Brisbane.
Garcia has a JS issue after only being named to play last week since Libba didn’t return. He has Hawthorn, Richmond, GWS and Sydney. Garcia had more midfield time in his match last week and looks like a more consistent scorer.
Tough to see if either choice is safe but I want offload a rookie to stop any leaking cash :/
How about Woewodin instead? Same price as Rogers. Has had a lot of sub games but now seems to be in best 22. Like you I was thinking it was either Rogers or Garcia, but if we look outside those 2, I think Woewodin is a valid third choice.
Decent suggestion there, but does Bowey replace him next week?
Of the three targets, he plays first and I assume most can check to see if he has the sub vest. There should still be enough room to manoeuvre the team around if he does to get Rogers/Garcia.
Same for Garcia and Rogers. Check to see if Garcia is sub first. If he is then gamble on Rogers for the final game of the round to not be sub
Very true. Think I will be tossing this one up all week.
Woewodin is a good option but will probably either be out with Bowey back or out when Salem is back in 3 weeks or so
Dan Curtin for Adelaide to debut!!!! DPP too!!!
Any one else worried about Steele, could stuff up your season ranked 21st
