Round 11 Review

Written by Dane on May 30 2022

Sydney (16.10.106) defeated Richmond (15.10.100)

1. Toby Nankervis (134). In very rich form right now with five tons in his last 6 games, this latest one courtesy of 21 touches (11 contested), 6 clearances, 9 tackles and 24 hitouts, which outweighed his 11 clangers.

2. Jack Graham (130). Season high score from Graham who found his way to this score on the back of 18 touches, 9 tackles and 2 goals.

3. Callum Mills (117). Sat as the deepest defender at times but still produced a solid score from 20 touches, 7 marks and 7 tackles, although it probably wasn’t enough to take a VC loophole.

4. Luke Parker (116). The same for Parker probably applies here, a solid score but not enough to take as VC. Had 26 touches, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 7 clearances and 1 goal, plus a team best 559 metres gained.

5. Dion Prestia (114). Another good game from Dion who has 5 tons from 8 games in 2022. Rounded out the top five thanks to 25 touches, 5 tackles and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Peter Ladhams (113), Shane Edwards (104), James Rowbottom/Jake Lloyd/Hugo Ralphsmith (101)

Disappointment: Couple of 50’s here from Heeney (53) and Vlastuin (54) got the round off to a rough start, as they had 5 and 7 clangers each.

Rookies: The Swans had a debutant on Friday evening, with pick 34 from last years draft Matthew Roberts not having the most outstanding debut ever, only gathering 2 touches from 49% game time for just 8 points, but don’t count him out as next week could be a whole different story. For the Tigers, it was just Gibcus (55) and Rioli (36) who didn’t really get involved a crazy amount. With their bye next week, and neither of them making their breakeven in this game, it’s an ideal time to move them on.

Injuries: No injuries from Friday evening!

Brisbane (16.14.110) defeated GWS (15.6.96)

1. Lachie Neale (164). Monster game from Neale who found a huge 39 touches (19 contested) to pair with 5 marks, 6 tackles, 9 clearances and 2 goals, all while overcoming an early tag.

2. Josh Kelly (131). Continues his red hot form with another elite game in the midfield, finding 31 touches (11 contested) with 6 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals as well.

3. Jarrod Berry (127). First ton of the year for Berry who hasn’t got above 400K after being a super popular pick in the pre-season. Massive 33 disposals, 10 marks, 1 goal and a team-high 674 metres gained.

4. Harry Himmelberg (126). Performing really well in a new role down back, this week collecting 21 touches at 85% DE to pair with 7 marks and a game high 735 metres gained.

5. Isaac Cumming (117). Rounding out the top five with his fifth ton of the season thanks to 704 metres gained from his 29 touches (25 kicks) that ran at a solid 75% DE.

Other 100+ scores: Oscar McInerney (112)

Disappointment: Worst score of the year for rebounding defender Daniel Rich (55) who copped a tag. Zorko (37) struggled too.

Rookies: Second game all done and dusted for Jacob Wehr who played a solid outside game to collect 12 touches and 5 tackles for 60 points, and he looks the most set of current downgrade options after his bye next week. Thats pretty much it from this game.

Injuries: Just the one casualty from this one with Callan Ward being subbed out due to concussion.

Geelong (15.7.97) defeated Adelaide (7.13.55)

1. Reilly O’Brien (175). After being banished from the seniors for the week and then producing one of the more ridiculous statlines in the SANFL, ROB brought that form with him to collect 28 touches (24 contested), 5 marks, 7 tackles, 47 hitouts and 9 clearances in a huge statement game.

2. Tom Stewart (174). Talking about massive games, Stewart found 40 touches of the ball (34 kicks) to pair with 16 marks at 85% DE and 874 metres gained, nearly 300 metres more than anyone else in the game

3. Cameron Guthrie (126). Has a been a big disappointment scoring wise from pre-season expectations, losing over 100K. Might be one to consider as a budget M8 if he can continue to produce 34 touch (20 contested) games with 8 tackles and 7 clearances.

4. Rory Laird (118). Standard type of Laird game as he found 38 touches (20 contested) with 8 tackles and 14 clearances.

5. Mark Blicavs (116). The ultimate POD currently with 8 tons so far with very minimal ownership. Scored his fifth ton of the season with 23 touches, 6 marks, 9 tackles, 31 hitouts plus 456 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Ben Keays (114), Joel Selwood (111), Jackson Hately (108), Gryan Miers (106), Jordan Dawson (104)

Disappointment: Throwing this score out to Matt Crouch (62) who returned from the reserves to find a solid 26 touches, but did run at 53% DE.

Rookies: The Cats had a debutant here in Shannon Neale (34) who played a rotating role between the ruck and up forward to have 7 touches and 3 hitouts, which was slightly better than Francis Evans (33) who had 9 touches and 3 tackles. Third game here as well for Cooper Stephens (46) who had 15 touches (7 contested) and 6 clearances, while De Koning (75) continues to play outstanding football, this week having 19 touches and 9 marks at 89% DE. Jake Soligo (50) had 11 touches, 7 tackles and 1 goal for another price rise, while for those still running with Hinge (74) had 15 touches, 6 marks and 5 tackles. If you own Hately, well done to you, he’ll continue to make solid cash after another great game of 27 touches, 8 tackles and 108 points.

Injuries: Key defender Jordan Butts copped a knee to the head which saw him subbed out. All of Murphy, Murray and Tuohy also spent time on the bench but played through.

Melbourne (7.14.56) defeated by Fremantle (14.10.94)

1. Luke Ryan/Sean Darcy (141). A tie to start us up in this game. Ryan made it two tons in a row from 29 touches and 14 marks at a remarkable 100% DE, while Darcy was huge for the Dockers with 16 touches (12 contested), 3 tackles, 32 touches and 1 goal.

2. Rory Lobb (126). Best score of the season for Lobb who found 15 touches, 9 marks, 7 hitouts and 3 goals in a mixed role. His fifth ton of the season, averaging 92.

3. Max Gawn (118). Not to be outdone, Gawn returned to the triple figure scores thanks to 20 touches, 8 marks and 20 hitouts in a solid matchup against Darcy.

4. Clayton Oliver (113). Started on fire but slowed down after the Dockers lifted in the second half. Still produced a solid score from 36 touches (19 contested) that gained 512 metres.

5. Jack Viney (109). Rounded out the top 5 thanks to 28 touches (14 contested) with 4 tackles and 6 clearances in his usual inside midfield role.

Other 100+ scores: Will Brodie/Michael Frederick (105), Jordan Clark (102), Angus Brayshaw/Andrew Brayshaw (100)

Disappointment: Very quiet day for Christian Petracca (53) who could only find 10 touches of the footy.

Rookies: Demons rookie Toby Bedford has been solid the last few weeks and this time found 11 touches and 2 goals for 65 points in a role mainly up front. No rookies of note for the Dockers here.

Injuries: The Dockers lost Matt Taberner to a sore back around 3QT, while the Demons lost Steven May to concussion early in the game.

West Coast (9.6.60) defeated by Western Bulldogs (25.11.161)

1. Tim English (160). Any worries about him being underdone after more than a month out of the game were quickly gone as he collected 25 touches (14 contested) to pair with 4 marks, 4 tackles, 1 goal and 28 hitouts while running at 88% DE with no clangers! A must have.

2. Josh Dunkley (143). Another Dog who didn’t have a single clanger and ran at a very good 92% DE from his 25 touches. Also had 12 marks, 7 tackles and 2 goals to be one of the best for the Doggies.

3. Tim Kelly (139). By far the best of the Eagles as he compiled 38 touches (19 contested) along with 544 metres gained, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 11 clearances and 1 major.

4. Bailey Dale (111). Provided his usual run off half-back with a game best 597 metres gained from his 28 touches, while also slotting 1 goal.

5. Adam Treloar (109). Continues his outstanding season with another fine performance that included 35 touches (13 contested) to pair with 9 marks and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Jack Darling (106), Bailey Williams/Caleb Daniel (105), Tom Liberatore/Jack Macrae/Alex Witherden (102), Jack Redden/Taylor Duryea (100)

Disappointment: I usually try to avoid passing this section to rookies but honestly, the most disappointing score from this game SuperCoach wise was Baku Khamis (26).

Rookies: Strap in for a big one here. We’ve already covered Khamis, so that leaves McComb (63, 14 touches, 1 goal) and West (82) who had a really solid third up score and will see some quick money coming his way. For the Eagles, there was ruckman Jamieson (41), who had 6 touches, 4 tackles and 11 hitouts as well as forward Winder (26), who had 4 clangers from 12 touches. The solid scores from the Eagles rookies came from Clark (72), as he found 14 touches and 4 tackles, while Hough was really good for 23 touches, 11 marks and 67 points.

Injuries: In this weeks edition of new West Coast injuries, we will cover Jeremy McGovern, who was subbed out due to a back injury.

Gold Coast (18.13.121) defeated Hawthorn (7.12.54)

1. James Sicily (147). Was the only Hawk to hit triple figures and absolutely smashed it out of the park with this score coming from just 21 touches and 8 marks that ran at 90% DE, while also gaining a team best 623 metres.

2. Brandon Ellis (122). A season best score from Ellis who ran on the outside all day to find 24 touches and 8 marks, as well as 6 tackles and 2 goals.

3. Jarrod Witts (119). Don’t think anyone in the pre-season would’ve thought Witts a captaincy candidate 11 rounds in, but here we are. Scored exactly his average from 18 touches (14 contested), 9 clearances and 34 hitouts.

4. Charlie Ballard (117). Career best score from Ballard who found 18 touches, 6 marks and 413 metres gained in his usual role down back.

5. Lachlan Weller (114). Massive game from Weller who has shown this sort of scoring potential in the past. Had a monster 937 metres gained from his 27 touches and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Touk Miller (109), Mabior Chol (105), Nick Holman (101)

Disappointment: Matt Rowell (72) continues to struggle to post big scores, while Dylan Moore (62) now has two under 65 in his past three games.

Rookies: I probably would’ve cautioned against bringing in a tall, developing forward, but Joel Jeffery (93) proved me wrong  with his second score in the 90’s thanks to 13 touches, 4 marks and 1 goal, while fellow forward Rosas (64) snagged 3 goals from 8 touches. If you’re still holding Alex Davies (47) or Conor MacDonald (52), they had 10 and 14 touches respectively. McGinness (16) was subbed on, while Grainger-Barry’s (46) had the same score as third gamer Butler.

Injuries: Unfortunately, concussion saw Jack Scrimshaw subbed out in the third quarter.

St Kilda (16.7.103) defeated North Melbourne (7.8.50)

1. Jed Anderson (144). No stranger to large scores, but its been a while since we’ve seen this sort of performance from Anderson. Had 28 touches (12 contested) with 8 marks, 12 tackles, 7 clearances and 1 goal to lead this games scoring.

2. Jack Sinclair (140). Massive game from Sinclair who had 32 touches (27 kicks) as well as 10 marks that ran at 78% DE and gained 764 metres. Going to finish as a top 6-8 defender in 2022.

3. Luke McDonald (132). Played a stellar game around half-back, finding 26 touches of the ball with 8 marks that ran at 88% DE with no clangers for the day. Fifth ton for the year.

4. Seb Ross (127). Playing brilliant football in 2022, with this being his sixth ton and best score of the year. 28 touches (12 contested), along with 5 tackles and 1 goal propelled him to this score.

5. Todd Goldstein (123). With Xerri dealing with some heavy knocks, Goldy ended up with 30 hitouts, 2 goals, 16 touches (12 contested) and 5 clearances to round out the top 5.

Other 100+ scores: Callum Wilkie (118), Brad Hill (106), Brad Crouch (105), Tim Membrey (100)

Disappointment: Only the one ton this year so far for Hugh Greenwood, with this score of 46 being a season worst.

Rookies: Really good game from Mitch Owens who could make some quick money with Steele still about a month away. He had 14 touches, 10 tackles and 2 goals for 89 points, which was the best of the Saints that may be owned, the others being Wanganeen-Milera (72) and Windhanger (46). Pretty standard scores from the North rookies, with Curtis (38) being out scored by Perez (51), Hayden (57) and Horne-Francis (58).

Injuries: Nothing standing out here as there were no subs, but that doesn’t mean there’s no injuries. Keep an eye on the teams/any news.

Collingwood (11.13.79) defeated Carlton (11.9.75)

1. Sam Walsh (123). Found plenty of it as we’ve become accustomed too, as he finished with 35 touches (13 contested) to gain 588 metres and kick 1 goal.

2. Adam Cerra (122). Hit the ton before halftime and then slowed, but still had a really good game with 30 touches that resulted in 1 goal and a game best 688 metres gained.

3. George Hewett (118). Scored exactly his average from his usual 31 touches and 7 tackles that ran at a very good 83% DE.

4. John Noble/Patrick Cripps (114). Noble led the Pies scoring thanks to 21 touches at 95% DE along with 9 marks and 4 tackles off half-back, while Cripps bounced back after a poor fortnight with 25 touches (15 contested), 8 clearances, 1 goal and 3 tackles.

5. Jordan De Goey (112). First ton since round 5 for De Goey who was very important through the middle of the ground for the Pies, collecting 24 touches, gaining 505 metres and snagging 1 goal for the afternoon.

Other 100+ scores: Adam Saad (108), Sam Docherty (107), Steele Sidebottom (103)

Disappointment: Rough score again for Scott Pendlebury owners, this week only reaching 62 from 18 touches.

Rookies: The Blues small forwards in Durdin (48) and Motlop (36) both had 7 touches and 1 goal in quieter games than previous weeks, while Carroll (15) was subbed on. Nothing to mention for the Pies bar the usual two who have already made their cash in Ginnivan (25) and Daicos (59), who have seen a drop in ownership leading up to their bye.

Injuries: Carlton copped a rough early injury to defender Jacob Weitering who suffered an AC joint concern.

Port Adelaide (9.12.66) defeated Essendon (6.14.50)

1. Darcy Parish (142). In wet conditions, Parish was everywhere, gathering 39 touches (18 contested) and 7 clearances to register his best score of the season

2. Zach Merrett (130). Parish’s midfield mate also registered his best score of the season from 27 touches and 7 tackles and looks the ideal target to bring in post bye.

3. Dan Houston (120). Having a career best season and that continued with this effort that came about thanks to 22 touches and 8 marks that ran at 81% DE.

4. Nick Hind (117). Provided plenty of drive off half-back, registering a game best 673 metres gained from his 26 touches (22 kicks).

5. Ollie Wines (112). Another guy who looks a solid target after his bye next week is Wines, who rounded out the top 5 thanks to 29 touches (17 contested) that helped him gain a a team best 542 metres.

Other 100+ scores: William Drew (107), Connor Rozee (106), Zak Butters (104), Andrew McGrath (102), Travis Boak (101)

Disappointment: Skipper Dyson Heppell was on a hot streak with 4/6 tons but that slowed on Sunday with his 24 touches registering him just 73 points.

Rookies: For those still holding Nick Martin (92), I’m a tad lost as to how he didn’t crack at least triple figures from 25 touches, 576 metres gained, 12 marks, 1 goal and solid DE of 76%, which, even with just 1 tackle and 4 contested touches, reads much better than the score he got. Wanganeen (29) had 7 touches and 3 tackles, while Reid (37) had 6 touches, which combined didn’t even reach Hobbs’s score of 75, which was compiled thanks to 22 touches (11 contested) and 4 marks. Many had to field Sam Hayes again this week, and well, 61 was serviceable to finish the round.

Injuries: Once again nothing to see initially from the game, and hopefully with both these teams having the bye next week, there’s enough time for recovery for anyone who did end up sore.

    1. He’s had some standout games here and there, but it feels like his inconsistency comes hand in hand with how the Eagles have been since he arrived there!

    1. Thanks for the pickup Brad!

Blicavs has been damn good this year, and has finished with 100 point averages in the past, can see it happening again in 2022

    2. The only problem is his role can change anytime. Scott could bring back Stanley this week and all of a sudden his CBA’s and ruck contests decrease.
