Round 12 Review

Written by Dane on June 6 2022

Western Bulldogs (10.10.70) defeated by Geelong (12.11.83)

1. Jeremy Cameron (153). Was the difference with a huge return of 6 goals from 18 touches and 7 marks playing a variety of roles, even finding his way to a couple of centre bounces. Fifth ton of the year.

2. Tom Liberatore (123). Seventh ton of the year for Libba who is looking like a lock for our forward lines. Had 30 touches (12 contested), 549 metres gained plus 2 goals to make him the best of the Bulldogs scorers.

3. Mitch Duncan (117). Been very poor compared to pre-season expectations Supercoach wise but theres still another half of the season to go! Had 29 touches for a game best 685 metres gained, plus 1 goal and 8 marks.

4. Bailey Dale (113). Eighth ton of the year for Dale who has a low of 86 and an average of 105. 31 touches off half-back this week to gain 464 metres and snag 1 goal.

5. Marcus Bontempelli (109). Another Dog who will find his way into plenty of forward lines is Bont, who rounded out the top 5 thanks to 23 touches, 5 tackles and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Jack Macrae (107), Tom Hawkins/Rhys Stanley (102), Zach Tuohy/Cam Guthrie (101)

Disappointment: Multiple culprits here from the Bulldogs with all of Treloar (82), English (80), Smith (67) and Dunkley (66) getting the round off to a bad start.

Rookies: Adding to that rough Friday night start were the rookie scores of Stephens (33), West (38), McComb (43) and Khamis (54) in a round when a lot of coaches probably had to field 2-3 of these guys to make up 18. The only shining light was De Koning’s score of 73 which was on the back of 12 touches, 8 marks and 100% DE.

Injuries: Tom Stewart was flying to start the game but was subbed out with what I’m pretty sure was concussion. Silver lining on this one is that he won’t miss a game with Geelong’s bye coming next round, but his 39 made Friday night even worse for many coaches.

Adelaide (13.10.88) defeated West Coast (8.9.57)

1. Taylor Walker (150). Clean all day in wet conditions to finish with 22 touches (13 contested), 8 marks and 3 goals to record his best score of the season.

2. Rory Laird (136). A popular VC choice and he delivered with a great game of 33 touches (17 contested), 8 clearances, 9 tackles and 1 goal.

3. Andrew Gaff (130). By far the best game of Gaff’s season as he collected 30 touches (11 contested) to pair with 4 tackles, 1 goal and a decent 83% DE.

4. Tom Barass (126). Has shown that he can provide big scores in the past when he picks up those intercept marks, which he did in this game. Finished with 18 touches (9 contested) with 10 marks and 88% DE.

5. Ben Keays (117). Rounded out the top 5 with a great game of 29 touches (16 contested) plus a couple of tackles and clearances to pair it with, overcoming signs of a sore hamstring.

Other 100+ scores: Shannon Hurn (111), Jack Redden (109), Jordan Dawson (106), Darcy Fogarty (105).

Disappointment: Rough game for Alex Witherden (66) who had 5 clangers from his 22 touches that held him back.

Rookies: Adelaide midfielder Jackson Hately just continues to rise in cash after another really solid performance of 25 touches that rant at 84% DE with no clangers which resulted in a score of 94, making him the best of the rookies. Hinge (83) and Soligo (77) were also great with 18 touches for the former and 10 touches plus 2 goals for the latter. Jamieson (67) was alright for the Eagles thanks to 11 touches, 4 tackles and 9 hitouts, while Hough (40) had 6 clangers from 11 touches to add to the poor rookie scores this round. Another contributor to that was Greg Clark (54), who copped a pretty rough score considering his statline read 11 touches @ 72% DE as well as a game high 10 tackles.

Injuries: Only injuries in this one went to a couple of rookies in Winder (34), who had a knee injury, and first gamer Parnell (41) who had a corkie.

Gold Coast (15.19.109) defeated North Melbourne (7.5.47)

 1. Touk Miller (167). Just a massive performance from Touk in game 150, as he collected 32 touches (23 contested), 5 marks, 8 tackles, 13 clearances, 799 metres gained and incredibly, no clangers.

2. Matt Rowell (125). Talking about massive games, Rowell had one too as he found 25 touches (17 contested), 1 goal, 11 tackles, 9 clearances and 594 metres gained before he has his bye next week.

3. Will Powell (119). Fourth ton for the year in what has probably been a frustrating season for Powell, who looked like a potential breakout leading in 2022. Best score of the year this one, thanks to 18 touches, 8 tackles, 1 goal and 585 metres gained.

4. Jarrod Witts (117). Came up against the tandem duo of Goldstein and Xerri but overall performed really well, finishing with 10 touches (all contested), 6 clearances and 35 hitouts.

5. Luke Davies-Uniacke (109). Only North player to crack the ton thanks to 25 touches (13 contested) plus 5 clearances, 6 marks, 1 goal and 554 metres gained.

Other 100+ scores: Lachie Weller (108), Izak Rankine (102)

Disappointment: Rough score for those still running with Xerri (54), as he only found 4 touches for the game.

Rookies: Couple of rookie forwards for the Suns in Rosas (83) and Jeffrey (64) provided solid scores on the back of good games up front. Rosas had 9 touches, 7 tackles and 1 goal, while Jeffrey had 11 disposals, 5 marks and 1 goal. Davies (71) had his best return since round 1 but he has overall lost $$$ from his starting price before round 12 price changes. The usual suspects ran around for North but none returned spectacular scores, with Curtis (55) leading the way over Horne-Francis (54), Perez (49) and Hayden (33).

Injuries: Unfortunately Ben McKay was subbed out again in this game, his fourth time this season, this one due to a heavy collision that was probably a concussion in the end. The Suns faced an injury of their own with important ball-carrier Weller suffering a bad looking knee injury very late in the contest.

Melbourne (9.7.61) defeated by Sydney (10.13.73)

 1. Max Gawn (198). Just monstrous stuff from Max who had hit the ton prior to halftime, but didn’t stop there as he ultimately collected 28 touches (23 contested), 5 clearances, 9 marks, 30 hitouts and 3 goals.

2. Sam Reid (136). With no Buddy in the team Reid was thrown into the forward line and had a great game consisting of 16 touches, 5 marks, 10 tackles and 3 goals.

3. Clayton Oliver (134). Had a harg tag early but that dropped as the game wore on, ultimately finishing with another solid score thanks to a 29 touch (19 contested), 7 clearance, 7 tackle performance.

4. Angus Brayshaw (130). Great game from Brayshaw down back as he found 24 touches that resulted in a team best 546 metres gained, while also running at 91% DE.

5. Errol Gulden (126). Played a massive last quarter when the game was on the line to boost his score, ultimately finishing with 17 touches (10 contested), 5 tackles, 4 marks and 1 goal.

Other 100+ scores: Callum Mills (113), Jack Viney (106), Nick Blakey (102)

Disappointment: Throwing this one out to Christian Petracca (70) who ran at just 52% DE from his 25 touches which resulted in his score being really held back.

Rookies: Just McCartin (95) in this one, who had a ripping game with 15 touches and 6 marks in his usual intercepting role. Ronke (19) I guess counts here as well but his ownership is quite low.

Injuries: Unfortunately Colin O’Riordan (4) could only register the one handball before a heavy clash saw him subbed out with concussion.

Hawthorn (10.8.68) defeated by Collingwood (10.12.72)

1. Darcy Cameron (129). Produced his fourth ton in his past six games on Sunday, playing a great all round game  to finish with 26 touches (15 contested), 9 marks, 1 goal, 3 tackles and 19 hitouts. Pushing 500K now.

2. Pat Linpinski (119). Massive last quarter for Lipinski who eventually finished with 29 touches (16 contested) plus 4 tackles and 1 goal for his first ton since round 3, but is still averaging almost 94.

3. Nick Daicos (113). Looks like he’ll make a little more $$$ before his bye comes up thanks to this score, as he found a game best 36 touches that gained another game best 789 metres.

4. Mitch Lewis (106). Kicked 4 straight for the day to be the most damaging forward in wet conditions. Also had 14 touches and 3 marks.

5. Steele Sidebottom (105). Back-to-back tons for Steele who rounded out the top 5 thanks to 24 touches, 5 marks, 3 tackles and 1 goal while running at a solid 79% DE.

Other 100+ scores: Jack Crisp (100)

Disappointment: Hawthorn midfielder Mitchell (83) got scored pretty harshly here after finding 32 touches and laying 7 tackles, as did Pendlebury (75) who ran at 84% DE from 25 touches. Sicily (98) had 10 clangers which held him back.

Rookies: Daicos has already had his time in the sun here, so that just leaves Ginnivan (56) who had 2 goals from 10 touches and I’m assuming, if you own him, will be moved on after his bye. The Hawks had McDonald (36) who had his usual 10 touches and 1 goal, as well as Butler (46), who had 13 touches and 1 goal.

Injuries: Just the rookie McInnes here who had a dislocated shoulder that saw him subbed out of the game.

Fremantle (15.9.99) defeated Brisbane (13.7.85)

1. Will Brodie (125). Fifth ton in a row for Brodie and eighth overall in what has been one of the more incredible rises that I can ever recall. Had 25 touches this week (16 contested) with 10 clearances and 5 tackles to lead this games scoring.

2. Caleb Serong/Daniel Rich (119). Should I mention breakout again with Serong? Fourth ton out of the past five, this week thanks to 31 touches (13 contested) plus 7 tackles and 1 goal, while Rich kept his streak of tons only in even rounds going to six, this time thanks to 32 touches that gained 906 metres.

3. Zac Bailey (115). Great second half which included all 4 of his goals. Also had 22 touches in a high half-forward role.

4. James Aish (114). One of the better games of Aish’s career here. Had a career best 19 kicks from his 29 touches that ended up gaining 566 metres, while he also grabbed 9 marks and slotted 1 goal.

5. Andrew Brayshaw (113). Got crunched late but came back onto the field to finish up with an incredible 39 touches (16 contested) to pair with 6 tackles and 9 clearances.

Other 100+ scores: Dayne Zorko (103)

Disappointment: He’s the only player to score 100+ each game this year (omitting those who have missed games, Hewett, Pruess etc) and for that reason, his sub-ton of 87 gets the nod here. But I’m sure Lachie Neale will bounce back quickly.

Rookies: No one to cover in this game!

Injuries: Gardner was subbed out for the Lions after a big bump to the ribs.

  1. Great review Dane…
and this week’s a great reminder on how SuperCoach can make all your strategic planning a total farce.
Coaches were jumping off the Gawn bandwagon- and he was gone, and jumping onboard the Darcy ‘Bus’… now, how did that end up?

  2. Gawn probably still has the highest ceiling in the league! Should still be the go to ruckman to finalise teams in my eyes.

Darcy though, could well change that with one of his standard monster scores this week lol
