SCT Leagues & Coaches Update – Round 12

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on June 7 2022

First off: an apology for missing last week’s League & Coaches Update! Copped a seasonal flu or something and was sick as a dog, ruled out on H&S Protocols by Motts and had some real life stuff come up. Really enjoy writing this piece and spotlighting the site’s top performers and want to continue it into future seasons, with a plan to promote the f*ck out of it early in the season to garner the eyeballs and recognition that our SCT Leagues & Coaches deserve!

This week’s Update is big one, with SCT recording it’s largest crop of Top 1k Coaches this season: a whopping 23! We’ve also got 36 leagues in the Top 500!

SCT Coach of the Week

This week’s Coach of the Week is Tyler of Shepp Screamers! The Shepp Screamers put together a handsome 2168 in a very challenging first bye round. Tyler charged into the Top 1000 a few Updates ago and after the 62nd highest score for Round 12 he has jumped up to 95th OA!

10 SCT Coaches featured for hitting 2100+ this week. Tyler obvious topped the group, with recent charger Nathan and all timer Yiorgakis a few points behind. Brad had PODs in Rich and Cameron combine handsomely and fellow Dale owner Brendan had 24 players available with an astutely held Daicos, Lipinski and VC Laird getting it done. Rodney was able to field 21 and escape Darcy’s 59 and mad under the radar picks in Duncan and Keays served him dutifully.

*team name, coach name, OA rank, [SCT Group rank]

As flagged in the intro, this is easily the highpoint of the SCT Group and community in the Top 1000 this year. 23 coaches represented, including 3 in the Top 100, a slew of new entrants into the 1k and plenty on the periphery. You bastards made me type out a lot this week but definitely worth it!

The Spartans David and Ayden continue to kill it at 300~, nice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone trade as well as site regular Amir of SG Ninjas. He hits the trade button as if it pumps oxygen into his lungs but gets tremendous conversion between trades used, points on field and rank increases. It’s panned out brilliantly as he was full premo by Round 12, with strong backend picks in Sinclair, Walsh and English and spicy PODs in Anderson and Pat “The Mad Polack” Lipinski! Not only have the Ninjas been throwing out roundhouses in the rankings, they’re firing off shurikens in Gun’s Regulars #1, Tragics #1 and his own Beat the Ninjas league – all of which are well ranked in part of his accord! Mitch, Adrian, Scott, Christian and Dave continue to forge their paths in the Top 1k, Tony isn’t f*cking around with a 492nd rank and admining a strong SCT favorite league and Shane and Alex have pretty much been deep in the rankings all year and shown formidable consistency. Catta is also having the best joint coach and league admining performance, now entering the Top 1k and continuing to preside over 3 iterations of the famous Catta’s Challenge leagues.

Now to the top of the table. Dale, Ricky and Tyler our are men in Havana, ranking 30th, 78th and 95th. That is simply sensational work and each deserve a spotlight.

Dale, as we know, has been taking names and hauling ass all season and continues to sit ready for a stab at a single digit rank. He managed 2015 in Round 12 and only has M8 left to fill. The strengths of the Dam Dogs are its South Australian backline PODs in Dawson and more so Houston and then, for mine, one of the purest Top 6 FWD lines going around: Tingles, Bont, Brodie, Parker, Libba and Cameron. What’s that? The 30th ranked coach doesn’t have Dunkley? Indeed! With Dunkley’s deeper FWD role, paltry CBA load and deeper FWD role that might not be the worst omission.

Ricky recently floated his rank in one of these updates and after nearly dropping my phone in amazement, we were quick to have him jump into the SCT Group. Took a bit of tumble after an 1807 last week but that’s probably been Sean of the Dead’s only rank regression for the season now sitting at 78 OA. Ricky’s got the must have defense trifecta of Hewett, Stewart and Sicily, two FWD spots cleverly left open and most impressively he’s running Witts and Darcy as rucks and then Preuss as a monster cow, which allows him to grab pretty much whoever he wants to seal his team. He’s also already got Owens and pounced on Jeffrey, so that cash advantage will prime him for a further rank charge.

Finally, the aforementioned Tyler topped the SCT Group for Round 12 and sits pretty at 95th OA. The Shepp Screamers are full premo with the luxury of riding out Fatt Rowell for some more tons or grabbing any MID to in his place and are rocking Cameron and Wines as PODs. Wines, in particular, joins Walsh, Cripps and Parish as the handful of post bye premos and hitting a rich vein of form will deliver serious dividends to Tyler at 4.6% ownership.

A shout out has to also be given to Connor at 145th. I still maintain that NonParishable@SCT is one of the best team names going around and has the rank to boot. NonParishable@SCT has made a sharp and concentrated charge in the ranks, featuring in several consecutive top round scores counts. Connor’s already got Sinclair and Walsh, the two best post-bye options on their respective lines, still has JHF, SDK, McCartin and Rosas’ cash and what looks to be the settled #1 ruck combination of Witts and Gawn. Critically, Connor is also in line to take out the cash from SCT Group Prize given he’s kept it real with the @SCT suffix on team name.

Get around all of these guys as those ranks are particularly sensational in what’s been a tricky season of difficult to navigate midpricers early, fluctuating premo MID scores and the addition of DPP.

Only thing I can hang my hat on this season is the performance of Gun’s Regulars #1. It jumped to 15th in Round 11 and, through no contribution of my own, it now sits 13th OA and I’ve got to give credit to some of its incredible constitutive coaches that many will recognize: Emile, Tony (King Maximus), Macca, Amir, TomsLousyTeam, CT, TrooRoo, Abs, Bearded Burbler, PBuzz, Lisa, FT and Gra Pol.

Just quickly on the Contribs League, which sits at its best rank in the last few years, we had one particularly cut throat battle over the weekend: the big kahuna Motts against the inimitable CT. My, my, this one swung back and forth: Treloar a little under par for CT early, Motts draws blood with Fatt Rowell and Hinge, CT throws a haymaker back with Rosas and Daicos combining for 200, Lloyd and Heeney scramble late to respectability and keep Motts in it. Both astray with the English VC and have to decide between late Cs in Sicily or Neale, Motts pushes all in on Sicily, it’s CT’s until his C Neale sh*ts the bed! Brayshaw looks to be on track to get CT over the edge until…late knock to the ribs! He’s off with 5 minutes to go and has stopped scoring! Motts has it! But no! Brayshaw comes back on with 2 minutes and 31 seconds to go to get CT up by 10 points; 2011 v 2021. Great scores from both our byes and what a rollercoaster!

  1. Solid! As always GD. Amazing effort to put this all together cohesively!.

CT v Motts sounds like a battle for the ages as well. Petition to have a cup created in the honour of the Contribs league winner?!?

    1. Abs omitting the small detail that is currently atop the Contribs League.

How he’s done that having owned De Goey and Zorko is beyond me!

  2. Thanks for the write up GD.
Tossed up gawn vs darcy all week and went with Darcy which cost me 140 points and my 26th rank. Stewart going down also hurt. Week before went petracca over english but still managed to climb ten spots. Would love for petracca and darcy to repay some faith and go well this week. As we know SC is a game of inches and unfortuately I have had two bad weeks of trade ins, in a row. Praying third time is a charm and i can re climb a few spots.

    1. Yeah, tough one on Darcy. I had him as well, such a gross game.

Hopefully he builds into a strong backend of the season.

      Best of luck!

Glad you’re a big fan of the NonParishable name – hoping my team finally lives up to it’s namesake as all roads are leading to me bringing him in this week. All the best!

  5. Awesome write up GD and thanks for the mention.

Have been lucky I reckon at times and burning trades has always been my forte – grabbing Laird and Walsh early obviously helped the ranking but not having Gawn last week was hard to stomach – might have to grab him this week assuming I can field 18 that is!

Good luck for rest of the season and it’s awesome to see Guns Regulars 1 crushing it too 🙂

  8. Late to the party here but great job, GD!! You put in an enormous amount of work on these posts and they’re brilliant! I look forward to the day when you’re broadcasting a win of mine rather than another close loss. Well done and congrats to CT. Well played mate.

    1. Eyyyy. Thanks, Motts.

I swear it must seem to everyone like I’m going after you lol but swear to God you’ve just been on the receiving end of so many close ones.

Sure you’ll hit your stride against me in a few weeks!
