    1. Amazingly the premiers and the runners up are not in total rebuild mode.

Seriously though T/u Joel Smith v T/d Mitchell Hinge

  3. Can someone remind me if any team changes can be made after Dees/Dogs or do rookies need to be locked in before teams actually come out?
    Cheers

    1. It’s a rolling lock out.

You will only need to lock in players from the first two games.
On Friday evening we will know Sunday’s final teams.

        1. Young, ha. I guess it’s a relative thing ?

Macrea . Oliver . Gawn and Dunkley Locks for the first game.

Gibcus gets a bench spot. Hewett is set at D3-4 . I pass on Dusty and Cripps. They could both bite me early, but I think its the better long term call.

The major call is to.. Gov or not to Gov ?

Either way he could hurt . He’s the pricier of those other Forward options ( therefore easier to downgrade. ). He probably starts to help bolster my defence. Xerri’s already in, and I just can’t stomach Brodie.

Kemp , Boyd and Durdin are other cow like things, that could bob up .

I hope we all choose wisely, trades are still gold.

          1. I’m banking on The Governator getting 70+ from round 1, like Jones when shifted to the back. That should make near $150 quickly.

            2

            0
    2. Yes BDM – as the lads have responded, rolling lockout across weekend.

This is key for everyone out there if not decided on team structures yet (and awaiting rookies in other matches) … you only need to ensure you have your players you want from the two sides playing Wednesday night locked in!

Do yourself a favour and grab the Bye Planners from the site and save versions of them with different structures you are playing with … to inadvertently lock in something you aren’t sure of on the SC site!! That way, depending on the drop of players … you won’t feel ‘rushed’ in making choices / changes!

  4. Is Gibcus a must have? I would have to rearrange some things to get him.
    TU lock him in
TD there will be other rookies

      1. He’s an elite talent, he maybe a slow burn, but at least he’s playing.

He starts on my bench with the (E)

        19

        1
        1. Tough price for a Key Position rookie defender. I see him as a slow burn to about 300k which makes him far from ideal. Barely justifies the trade.

But as FD says, the rookies pick the team, not the guns.

Honestly I’m seriously tossing up trading out a premo def and a Rookie to go Hewett and Chapman.

We’ll see what the SC gods give us before we start the human sacrifices*.

*Unless you like that kind of thing. Who am I to judge?

          5

          5
          1. Completely agree FT and HH, hopefully like Butts last year, had some up and down scores but ended up a good pick

            1

            0
    1. The teams will be posted before the Richmond game starts on Thursday. The extended bench for the Sunday teams makes them tricky.
The good things most clubs announce early if there is to be a debutante.
I will update those announcements in the Coaches box and on the top of this post.
Hopefully there will be other rookies available.

Gibcus is not cheap but he has won his place in Richmond backline and seems to have a solid position. I don’t think he will go large but he is a warm body and will be a slow burn.

I have brought him in to my team on that basis as the dearth of defender rookies concern me.

      19

      1
    2. yes – as SImon is indicating – he is being played / selected as (to the best of our knowledge) as a key defender – these positions do not generally score as well in SC as other roles …

On the other side, he is an actual body, on the field, that will at least score some points … and potentially allow you to afford other / better players on other lines that may score better … so it is a pure personal choice you need to make on that basis …

and edit – CT beat me to the advice as well!
Great stuff with everything as always CT!!

      1. Two things that strike me as interesting at selection table…
        Dogs left out Crozier.
        Melb left out Tomlinson.
If Boweys form drops you’d imagine Tomlinson would’ve a quick addition.

        1

        6
        1. Apples and oranges, Kota.

Tomlinson a key defender and Bowey an emerging half back.

Bowey firm JS. The revolving door will be between Tomlinson, Smith and Petty as that 3rd key defender.

          4

          0
    1. Bowey’s certainly an option.

Joel Smith started in great touch until injured. Looked a talent from his first game but has always been on the fringes.

Melbourne’s defence is far from decided which is very rare for a Grand Final team.

  5. Our bias in selection is interesting to observe. J Smith is basically the same price as Gibcus.
We don’t really take his selection seriously and I bet next to nobody puts him into their team. Long term Richmond will want to put games into Gibcus. But rookies is all about cash generation. His short term job security is probably no more or less than Gibcus. He is playing in the premiership team, and we know rookies tend to score better in better teams.
He is 26, with more experience. His role is not that much different to Gibcus, maybe marginally better.
So focused have we been on the same names for so long that it is difficult for us right now to switch.
Am I going to take Smith instead of Gibcus? First impression, probably not. But if we consider ourselves to be scholars of this game, I suggest we owe it to ourselves to have a second look and not dismiss it out of hand. That I will do.

      1. Interesting question. My gut says that Hinge is a one game rookie and is out when Dawson gets back. Hey, maybe even Milera pushes him out.
But after last year when I didn’t take Jordon for the exact same reason, who am I say.

        1

        1
  6. English named the starting ruck.. worth getting excited about? Like FD in his team post I believe he’s the value has a decent potential does alot around the ground and would allow me to look for my final R2 before swing Timmy to the forward line.

It just gives me slight anxiety not starting G&G or Darcy.

    Everyone’s thoughts?

    9

    1
    1. I’m starting English and anxious about it.

For me he’s the only viable R/F right now, he has a good bye which gives you cover and he’s going to allow a person to rookie correct to Pruess on his bubble (rd 4 thanks to suspension) and potentially save a trade boost.

He counts as a fwd keeper which helps you get your keeper number up and in a year with lots of high price rookies a 480k keeper and the ruck cover is gold.

  7. Any thoughts on VC choice ? Surely there are a few options in this first game. Who would you go? Macrae, Gawn Satan?

    0

    0
    1. Gunboat will have his Captain’s post up tomorrow which he will cover this in great detail and wise words.

I am going to back Macrae as VC.
      He is a dependable choice.

  8. Re to Phil & HH,

Yes Phil, spot on…..and HH, I think we’re on the same waive length.
Are you keeping an eye on the byes as well?…..

    1. Nah. Just as Gunboat mentioned in relation to Bowey / Tomlinson – “apples and oranges.” Gibcus is a key defender. Vlastuin isn’t.

  9. G’day everyone – exciting times!!

TU Chapman or Ed Richards (DEF on field) & Maginness / Durdin / H Dixon / Nick Martin (FWD on bench)

TD Hinge (DEF on field) & T Xerri (FWD – probably on field due to high ceiling, but I can also field Ralphsmith & bench Xerri)

    Thanks!!

  10. Every time I hear people talking about the drama with the defensive rookies (on podcasts) I’m so glad that I chose to skip it and went with 5 premos and Chapman at D6.

  11. Am I reading this correctly that I can make multiple changes on Thursday night? But do they count as trades from our allocated 35?

  12. Weird but serious question:

is there a list somewhere of players *not* playing this week, but expected to play soon? asking for a friend….

  13. I feel like not selecting Paddy Cripps is really going to hurt me. Father D made me re-think it and I decided it would be touch and go whether he’d get back to averaging 115 over the season.

    1. He was supposed to be back to his ‘brilliant best’ last year and if like me, you picked him, then you would never go there again.

    1. The article seems to say they believe in playing three talls, but would only play three talls if one of them was Comben and he plays as a fwd.

It reads like Xerri will miss/be an emergency, which contradicts all previous comms on Xerri, and we know how much these coaches like to play silly buggers with their media announcements…

Definitely a wait and see on that one, but be prepared to slot in a McGovern or Curnow at a moment’s notice.

      1. Sucks that Carlton are playing tonight. Unless we get confirmation on Xerri from North later today, we’re gonna be forced to pull the trigger one way or the other. Mcgovern, Curnow and even a rookie reshuffle to Durdin are all options.

            1. Its tricky .How many do you take ? Ralphsmith disappeared very quickly.

Folks planning for Brodie , Mc Gov and Xerri may need a back up plan.

              Naish ?

  14. G’day everyone!!

Now that Connor McDonald is confirmed as playing, he is in my side – so my MID bench is:

    D Stephens
    McDonald
    Soligo or Hough

Reckon that Soligo will win more contested possessions & tackle more than Hough (who seems more an outside player) – but not sure about their respective job security?

Lots of WCE players to return at some point in the near future you would think – unless COVID plays havoc.

Am leaning towards Soligo for these reasons, but would appreciate your thoughts:

    T/U Soligo (Adelaide) $117,300 MID

    T/D Hough (WCE) $117,300 MID

  15. Hugo Ralphsmith is likely to be the medical sub for tonight’s game after not participating in today’s VFL practice match.

  16. CT WHERE ARE THE TEAMS ALREADY????????

Just kidding, I know there’s half an hour to go, but the suspense is killing me

    1. I can understand your anxiety.

Clubs have been tight lipped today.
Noticeably Port Adelaide, who in past seasons announce their teams very early.

Nervously scanning clock again, again etc.

    1. I don’t think he was ever going to be the main ruck for North, but if he’s the main chop out option and can snag a goal a game, still going to go at 70-80 and make $150k easily

  17. NO LLOYD – what are coaches doing with him if they had him in their teams?

TU – Hold & bench, he will only miss a week
TD – Trade, replace with another premium defender and get him in later

    1. Traded down to Ridley and used the cash elsewhere to help with the more expensive ‘rookies’ we need to get in this year

  18. Ok undecided on this my forward rookies are Martin,Hayes and Rachelle

    Thumbs up Chapman,Sheldrick,Xerri

Thumbs down Chapman, D,Stephens and Baldwin or Durdin

  19. Well went Crisp for Lloyd and Nic Nat for Darcy, will trade that back if by chance Hayes tons up tomorrow night, and can use that score as emergency. Brought in Hinge and put DeKoning back just to plug gaps, missed on Durdin but I have 2 weeks to decide on a corrective trade. With Covid protocols I’m not sure 35 trades will be enough!

  20. Which bomber rookie for my bench (considering both scoring potential and job security)

    TU: N Martin
    TD: K Baldwin

  21. TU: Horne-Francis on field + Mead and Hough on the bench
TD: Ward on field + D Stephens and a 102 k spud on the bench (Probably N Long)

    4
  22. TU: Heeney mead M9 (ward comes onfield durdin benched)

TD: Brayshaw N.Martin F8 (Rachele come onfield ward benched)
