  1. Might be time to move off of Caleb Daniel, if he’s not finding the pill then he scores POORLY, plus he offers absolutely nothing if he’s not distributing out of half back for North so he may get a spell in the two’s (don’t think he will but it’s a possibility). I may have more pressing issues but with cash gen seemingly drying up my hand may be forced if I’m trying to upgrade. He was always a stepping stone/expensive rookie in my eyes and in that context he’s done his job and then some.

Bice can probably go too, he’s been a brilliant cow but if Cox is insistent on playing 40 HBF every week his scoring is going to dry up (hey, similar problem to what Caleb’s having!)

But all that being said, Clarry is being relegated to tagging roles he’s playing that poor, do I need to move off of him? Jayden Short has been awful and then when he plays against the team that gives up points to half backs for fun, he’s a late out! Do I need to move off of him? Ned Long has been a good cow but threw up a stinker, cooking his cash gen, and Tom Mitchell is knocking down the door in the VFL, do I need to move him on?

I have too many problems and only 2, potentially 3 trades to fix them. Desicions desicions…

    • Yeah all facing similar problems. Im personally chopping Daniel now, have 7 round 12 bye premos so this helps, plus have Warner and JHF in mids so will swing one fwd. Personally id be chopping clarry and Short before Bice. Bice still has the role and could make his BE. Clarrys role is shot if doing run with roles and Short is not a great sc pick with low contested posessions and ability to butcher it

    • Nope – there are 3 premo defenders who are primed right now to pick up – Clark, Sinclair, Holmes. If you don’t have any of them I’d go for them over Luke Ryan.

      • Yep. Spot on, Marcus.

        It’s weird though.

Holmes, Clark and Sinc all fire. Price, fixture, form. The works.

But, at least for me, I’m not getting punished OF down back. Reid become a god and Bice is stable enough. So don’t particular need DEFs at the minute.

With Hustwaite and Boxshall falling through and Daniel being horrendous, M8 and F6 are likely the pain points for most rn – not D5-6.

Major crossroads fortnight of trading coming up.

    • All this rage over Sinclair, he’s been bailed out by some late goals recently. Have a look at his most recent Heat Map on DFS Australia. I’ll be passing another week, still has BE of 106.

    Brayshaw, Neale, Rowell, Dawson, Oliver

I’m hoping to get Bont at the bye for a discount, and also have eyes on Butters. But this week:

TU: Naicos and hope he doesn’t keep underperforming
TD: Go for a POD in Dunkley and save money

    Oliver

    Out Bice, Daniel, SPP

    In: Xerri, Sinclair, Boxshall/whichever rookie

I have too many inconsistent premos. I don’t wanna pay up that much for Xerri but seems like I may have to, missing so many big scores atm. My other initial thought is Long to Rozee instead of Meek to Xerri. TU/TD?

  10. This is where I’m at for now, probably not burning a boost and sideways trading 3 players by the end of the week but see how we go:

    OUT: Short, Clarry, Daniel

IN: El-Hawli, Clark, Libba, 130k ITB.

Leaves me with one boost left.

My rationale is that Short is not a premos and I trust Bice to score more than him, so out he goes. Clarry is in awful form and I trust Long to score more than him, so out he goes. Daniel was always a stepping stone and I have Chad in the midfield waiting to be swung forward, so out he goes. Clark to me is the best of the budget DEF this week, but I could easily see him being NWM or Sinclair by the end of the week. Libba is a proven performer now and to be able to pick up someone averaging 115 for 560k is a bargain, but he could easily be Rozee ready to be swung back or even Richards. And then El-Hawli is the only downgrade option this week really.

Take 130k in the bank and then use Bice/Long in a week or two’s time to get a fallen premo like Daicos or Merrett etc.

Let me know what you think! Am I crazy for using a boost?

  11. I feel like I’m going pretty aggressive here just so I can bring two underpriced guys.
I’m trading out: Flynn, Bice and Daniel
In trading in: Sinclair, Dunkley and Simpson/rookie (I can’t afford el hawli)
This then sets me up for Lindsay/Hewett for Phillipou. This leaves me with 3 rookies on field.

  12. Tough call with not many cash generating rookies around. Clark looks to be the more consistent player this year. Higher BE, might be able to pick him up at a similar price over the next few weeks. Sicily has hit form and is SC gun, low BE

    • If you’re looking at D5 or D6, I think Sicily might be enough, but you’ll be in trouble if he’s your D1-4. I think most are picking Clark because of the consistency you mentioned. His lowest score (58) is in his 3-round average for one more week, so if you’re not getting him this week, it’ll be next week before his price starts going back up (price rise in two weeks would be about 15-25k).

TU: Bice, Daniel, SPP -> Bews, Petracca, Rozee (in the mid to swing back once DPP)

    • The low BE is a bit of a mirage because of that 35 dropping out of his 3-round average after his next game. He will make about 75k more if he scores his average (88), so you’d be banking him on putting up at least one more crazy score to make it worthwhile. Can any Hawks fans comment on why he’s scored so well the past fortnight?

    L Ashcroft -> Holmes
    Hewitt -> El-Hawli

Would have Holmes & Rozee in mids to move to defence when I trade Reid & Bice out which would complete my defence at this stage.

Whitfield, Zorko, Sinclair, Holmes, Rozee & Roberts

Would leave 4 upgrades in the mids to be ‘full premo’

Daicos, Serong, Rozee, Warner, Cerra, Lashcroft, Lindsay, Hustwaite (Gross, Camporeale, Boxshall)

    Gawn, TDK

Petracca, Smith, Daniel, SPP, Macrae, Maria (Cleary, Kako)

    Flynn

Thinking of using the last boost, swing some magnets and going

Daniel, Flynn, SPP > Sinclair, Rankine (or JHF)

Reid swung into the flex, Elhawli back, Sinclair mid and Rankie up forward, with Rozee getting DPP and Sinclair do I have to many defenders? Otherwise if I fade Sinclair I have 622k to get a midfielder which could be Bont, Brayshaw or Butters next week or the week after

Pies don’t instruct for a single, monopolizing distributor. Trust their whole backline to use it.

They’re not a overpossesing defence like Port. Port liked to diffuse pressure at HB, Pies want to win that turnover in D50 and go go go.

      • That makes a lot of sense GD, but it’s weird that his drop in scoring coincided with his suspension. Were they looking for him at the start of the year because he was such a big off-season acquisition? Then realized they didn’t need to do that to win (while he was out)?

        His first three games (rounds 1, 2, and 4), he averaged 105 (132, 81, and 103).
        Since then (rounds 7-9), he’s only averaged 68 (62, 79, and 64).

If Boxshall is named I’d be tempted to trade one of your non-playing rookies (i.e. Camporeale). Your cash gen isn’t looking great on the bench, which you’re going to need. Either way, focus on getting ‘good’ rookies and fallen premos, try and avoid paying top dollar for anyone at this stage.

  43. TU: Bice and Oliver > Ash and Merrett
TD: Bice, Oliver and Flynn > Ash, Merrett and El Hawli (Gives me $263K ITB to upgrade one of Kako, Cleary or Hewett the following week)

    • He doesn’t go to well when tagged, that is when the other Lions midfielders take over. You have to plan ahead if the opponent has a know tagger he is normally crap.

  44. PLEASE HELP
I need a fwd rookie bench option due to downgrading Daniel and upgrading a rookie in midfield, meaning I will put Max hall on my field, deciding between Archer day-wicks, Thomas Sims, Cooper Simpson and Finnbar Marley.

Leaning towards Archer day-wicks and Thomas Sims
    Tu: Day-wicks
    Td: Sims

Or comment another option please !!!

    • I would rank them in this order:

Simpson – great role, should score decent, also decent job security, but wait a week if you can

Day-Wicks – medium forward, looked ok, but job security may be an issue

Sims – tall forward, young, looked good, scoring may be very up & down, played against a poor team on the weekend

Maley – bit older & more mature than Sims, great mark, questionable kicking skills, subbed out on weekend – so job security may be an issue

I am hoping that Erasmus gets another run for Fremantle this week – but he is a bit pricier FWD / MID @ around $150k

      • Angove from GWS is worth watching

He had a couple of really good practice games in preseason and he was in my preseason team. He was the ‘standout’ in a practice game against swans where he had 20 touches and 2 goals.

He didn’t get named in opening round, not sure why not. Maybe not quite ready

He played whole game in weekend and did a couple of nice things. He plays on the wing and can run all day.

Has DPP which is great and only $113k.

Ideally we watch him for another week, but if named again it shows GWS think he is ready

Hope he is named and has a good one this week against the purple mob

          • Worth noting a few injured players to return for GWS in the next few weeks may put pressure on him holding his spot. Kelly, Coniglio, Daniels, Jones, Bedford all to return and you would think are in the best 23. I am also a fan of his, but mindful of his job security.

            • It’s nice to dream though! We really are struggling for downgrade options huh.
Not looking good for those who held onto Conor Stone either, unfortunately.

scores of 109 and 117 last 2 games (ave 100 last 6 games)

he was locked into my preason team until i found some cash to get Cerra.

Any Crows fans can explain why he is now good?

    TU: Peatling is now good

    TD: Peatling is not good

    • Hi Derek, fan of your comments this season, hope I can help a little.

Peatling has a great ceiling but his rise comes from him being the big beneficiary of the Matt Crouch injury so far. Plenty of CBAs and time on ball (CBA% up ~50% since Crouch went down). Problem is we still seem to be figuring out the mid rotation, with Berry, Soligo and a whole other number of guys fighting for those premium mid spots. I think our depth is great for us as an AFL team but maybe not so much for consistent Supercoach selections as I don’t think you could confidently say who is getting that third on-ball spot for the rest of this season.

    • The third option completes my defence and leaves me with only six premiums on the round 12 bye

It also means I probably won’t be able to fund any upgrades next week though

    • Daniel in your mids & already a full promo fwd line he can be moved on. Oliver can be moved on also, so if you have boosts left I would consider something like

Out: Daniel, Oliver & FOS (just not going to make money) which gives you roughly 1.15m

In: El-Hawli & 2 500k mids e.g Holmes, Rowell, Anderson, Dunkley, Serong, Tom Green

Just my opinion I’m sure others may have different thoughts.

    • Hi Lolopp,

      Who is your flex?

Your defence is fine, Rozee will likely become a defender. You could consider Bice to El-Hawli to unlock cash if E-H is named. Forwards and Rucks are good too.

Your midfield needs improving. Oliver and Daniel can go (I’ve traded both in the last two weeks, though some people are still holding). Trading them with your current cash leaves you $946,200 (plus $219,600 if you trade Bice to E-H, i.e. $1,165,800 total). This would need a boost, but you can get two good Mids for this money. You’d miss Boxshall, but I don’t think that’ll hurt too much. Or if you don’t want to boost there are still good options (Oliver/Daniel to Sinclair/E-H would leave cash available too).

      Hope this helps!

          • Oliver and Daniel aren’t premos, will lose money and the rookies you have onfield still have money to make (other than Bice potentially), so I’d be fine with dumping them both (I’ve already done this and still have some rookies onfield). Definitely worth keeping cash ready for Bont & Butters once they’ve had their byes. Good luck!

  53. Planning the following already this week:
    Bice, Flynn > Sinclair, El-Hawli

Considering boosting and trading Cerra to Dunkley.
Cerra has a high breakeven now and was always planning to trade him around his bye.

    TU: Do it
TD: Hold Cerra to the byes and reassess.
