  1. At my final mid upgrade and I’ve been holding out for Serong all season… but LDU is looking like a nice POD:

    TU: Serong
    TD: LDU

    • Definitely Serong, not even close imo. He is on a different tier this season.

Ldu got major charity scaling today late due to the tight contest.. find it hard to believe how he scored that many points late even when they lost the game!

  2. This week was brutal…1610 and beaten by 18th place in one league!

Rubbish scores from Neale, Butters , Warner, Brayshaw, Steele, plus Meek who I held over the byes through his injury (wanting to wait for one of English/Marshall/De Koning)

Thankfully Whitfield came through as I was planning to trade him out.

  3. 2 trades this week.
    Out – Sanders and Sullivan
In – Salem and possibly Laurie
Don’t need any more backmen so Schoenmaker is a no for me.
Surely Salem gets more midfield time with Petracca done.
Hopefully then Laurie can avoid the subs vest.
Life would also be much simpler if Simpkin and McKercher play round 15.

    • As a Dees fan, it’s hard to suggest Laurie for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he’s shown absolutely nothing in the opportunities he’s been given. Was drafted with Bowey and unlike some other first rounders who show glimpses of talent to persevere with – say Fin Macrae – Laurie offers very little.

Secondly, Goodwin seems to have a ‘preferred sub’ week-in, week-out. Woewodin, Melksham and Jordon have all filled this role.

As a guess, Pickett will move into the mids and Tholstrup or McAdam given an opportunity for game time ahead of Laurie.

    • As another dees fan, petracca being out doesn’t help Salem in SC. He has been prolific as a pure HB, loves to kick the ball and sets us up.

Now he’ll likely be moved around to join mids, and as a mid earlier in the year he struggled. I would wait and see what his role is this week before jumping on.

  4. Not a trade question, but I genuinely can’t remember a season where so many midfield premos had so many bad scores throughout the season. Could it be because of the return of the tag?

It’s round 15 and I genuinely have no idea who the top 8 will be.

    • Still worry about Ldu when north get a battering. They won’t be competitive every week and todays score was largely scaled due to the close contest.

      I would go Gulden.

    • Agree, but I think you can pay up slightly and get someone who will provide cover, like Schoemaker or Dowling. Even though they have a bye coming up, they look to have good JS, and it fine to get them during a bye round if you can field 20 or so, especially if its generating cash….looking at you Steele !!

Reason I’m leaning towards Salem is his break even is 50ish compared to Rozee 130 so I’m thinking I can wait a week on Rozee.

Although almost 50/50 from the community on Salem or Rozee. Therefore, leaning towards both if no rookies become available, can sideway Steele to Rozee and bank the cash saving for rookie to premo upgrade

Ryan, Daicos, sheezel, j Clark, Houston, j Draper (w. Dawson, x Reid)
Bont, serong, butters, gulden, Merrett, Rowell, Steele, green (reville, Dowling, jye clark)

    • I think your greatest need is to upgrade D6 as Draper simply doesn’t cut it (and will most likely be dropped once Brennan Cox returns). To do this you will need to downgrade Richards & Jones to perhaps Kreuger & Schoenmaker (via Wil Dawson to FWD bench) as they are probably the most likely rookies to retain their spots. This should then give you enough funds to upgrade to a mid-priced DEF (eg. Stewart, Salem) or a mid-priced FWD (eg. Curnow, Caldwell) via moving Sexton to your D6.

Then in a few weeks time you’ll need to consider upgrading your F6 once Freijah, Reville & Clark max out in price.

Hope this is of some help to your decision-making and best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

TU – Libba. Seems to be back and Treloar or Bont surely the first to be tagged?
TD – Laird. Dawson no.1 tag target and Laird was playing off half back on the weekend, clocking up plenty of cheap kicks, leading to a monster score. Could finish the season strong if kept there.

I have set my team over the byes with DPP swings on all positions due to lack of rookies with JS and low on trades. Jye Clark, Freijah and Dowling* will be my bench cover.
I think, I’m happy with this team for the rest of the year, barring any injury/suspension. Fingers crossed 2 trades will be enough to me get through from Round 17 to the end of the season.

    Ryan, Sheezel, Clark
    Dale, Stewart, Sexton D/F
    (Z. Reid, ®El-Hawli D/M)

    Bont, Daicos D/M, Trealor, LDU
    Serong, Merrett, ®McCluggage, Green
    (Jye Clark, Garcia M/F, McAuliffe)
McAuliffe will become Dowling* next week

    ®Gawn, Grundy (Livingstone R/F)

    Flanders, Heeney, Zorko
    Jackson R/F, Fisher D/F, Lohman
    (Freijah M/F, W Dawson DF)
Looking to upgrade Sexton or Lohman to any uber premo next week.

This Week will have 19 playing
    OUT: Butters, Powell, Moyle
    IN®: Gawn, McCluggage, El-Hawli
Leaves me with 58,700 itb and only 4 trades left this this trade.

    • Don’t trade out Butters, especially now that he is free to play this week!

Instead, perhaps do the McAuliffe to Dowling trade this week to fund your Gawn purchase, then next week consider downgrading Clark to Schoenmaker (via moving El-Hawli to your MID bench) to give you a warm DEF bench cover as well as fund your Lohmann or Sexton upgrade.

In the end, the choice is yours, so best of luck with whatever you decide.

  25. Currently looking at Comben and Howes to Houston and Schoenmaker – this will leave me with 8 trades and 57k for 2 upgrades (both defenders, one of which is Sexton)

Houston can become any defender other than Ryan, Daicos, Sheezel and Fisher, and I am going early on Schoenmaker to facilitate the cash for this trade. It will leave me with two defenders to upgrade. I have all other lines complete (M8 is Green, and F6 is Jackson, and rucks are Gawn and Grundy)

  26. Stuck with what to do about trades this week, my side is:

DEF: Ryan, Daicos, Sheezel, McGovern, Martin, Sexton (Dawson, Z.Reid)

MID: Bontempelli, Serong, Butters, Merrett, Rowell, Steele, Green, Sullivan (Reville, Dowling, H.Garcia)

    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Livingstone)

FWD: Flanders, Heeney, Zorko, Moore, Fisher, L.Jackson (Freijah, Richards)

$76k in bank, 8 trades left

Do I simply do Freijah, Sullivan > Yeo, Hutchinson to complete my team? Or do an extra downgrade to bring in a better mid?

I’m a bit worried about Moore as well so not sure whether he needs to go?

    Any advice welcomed!

    • Hey Simon,

You have a pretty strong looking side on paper there. Like you have already indicated, your M8 will need to be upgraded as a priority.

What I’d suggest is keep Freijah as your FWD bench cover due to his DPP (he can be interchanged with Reville on any given week) and relatively good job security, and instead downgrade a couple of your other non-playing rookies (ie. H Garcia & Richards). I’m wary of Oscar Allen returning for WC this week which may mean Hutchinson gets dropped, but more importantly I think you need some DEF bench coverage so I’d recommend trading out Richards for Schoenmaker (moving Dawson to your FWD bench) as he looks to have a better chance of keeping his spot post-bye. Then perhaps downgrade H Garcia to El-Hawli as, even though he’s injured, his DPP will open up the link between your DEFs & MIDs to provide further coverage if injuries strike later in the season. This will then give you enough funds to upgrade Sullivan to a MID around $550K-$560K (Cripps, Dawson, Walsh & Touk are a few in that ballpark).

As for Dylan Moore, I’d recommend holding him for now as he’s one of the few FWDs capable of hitting a huge score, plus the Hawks play each of the bottom 4 sides again before the end of the season. Worst case is if he doesn’t perform to your expectations later on then you can trade him to someone like Rankine or Curnow, or alternatively you could grab a defender such as Houston, Sinclair or Clark by switching Sexton to your FWDs.

Anyway, hope I could be of some help and best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

Can I request an article ASAP on which premo midfielders to look at trading in, taking into account team match ups for the remainder of the season (especially coming up against teams that are using taggers to suppress our SC scores ). Who has the best chance of getting through unhindered? For me, my final trade in decisions are wanting to be made with players who can handle a tag or less likely to be impacted by a tagger, and who plays the most games against teams that don’t use a tagger.

    • Hey JJ,

I think upgrading your FWD line is the most pressing need, and getting Heeney in there is a must. Downgrading Harrison to Kynan Brown should give you enough to upgrade Powell to Heeney with around $30K leftover.

Then, if you’re willing to use 1 of your 2 remaining boosts, you can downgrade Nyuon to Logan Evans (via shifting Sexton to your FWDs) which will give you enough to upgrade Freijah to Simpkin. Or alternatively if Sexton is dropped, you could upgrade him to Jackson instead which will give you decent ruck cover in case of injuries moving forward. But definitely check the final Sunday teams before you make your final decision.

Admittedly your benches will be pretty thin, but at least you will get all your rookies off the field come Round 16. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Salem becomes M9/D7, and trade one of Green, Oliver & Steele to Rankine next week for full premo (6 trades left)

  51. If I was trading in one of these this week, and the other hopefully in a week or two, which one is more important to get first :
    TU : Zorko
    TD: Merrett

  52. Need help what to do with my midfield, do I side trade or leave it as is.

Mid: Serong, Bont, Dunkley, Walsh, Steele, Butters, JHF, Wines, Sullivan, Clarke, Garcia

Do I move on the likes of Steele, Wines or a rookie.
Do I bring in Rozee, Merrett, etc..

Please comment for advice on whether to trade, if so who or just let it ride until really needed.

  53. Was initially saving the last defender premo for Sinclair but given his bye I’m now looking at Ridley or Jordan Clark.

    TU – Ridley
    TD – Clark

  54. With Carlton and Geelong having better draws than most.
Dawson (performing poorly), R Garcia + Macrae (same) to Holmes (probably Geelongs best player), Curnow + S Day (quick grab for cash) leaves 9 trades and
    $179K in the bank..

  55. I have the option of going Sexton -> Serong this week..

My only hesitation is that Serong’s BE is high and he will probably come abit cheaper next week and Sexton will probaby go up $ abit more.

Or do I just do it this week?

    • Hey Jake, if you need a win this week, hit the trade button. With Powell straight back into the backline for the Suns and Sexton on the bench, there is a real risk he’s sent forward, is the sub, or worse, doesn’t make the final team. Serong probably 50 points better this week.

  56. With limited trades left…

Is it worth cashing in Harrison -> Worner?

Is his JS concerning? Ideally don’t want to get a rookie in who won’t be playing.

  57. I have limited funds, so I am thinking Tom Powell to Jeremy Cameron.

TU: Yes, Cameron will outscore Powell for the rest of the season
TD: No, hold and hope Powell turns it around

  58. Keeper for the rest of the season:

    Tu: Clarry
    Td: Josh Kelly

(worried about Kelly’s injury history, but output seems like it’ll be better than Clarry this year)

  59. L. Evan’s $102k rookie to make some cash available and hopefully and fill up a gap for a few weeks, little or no JS any info on him.

    • Logan Evan who is listed as a speedy defender – was taken in the most recent Mid-Season Draft with Pick 12 after staying connected with Port Adelaide through the SANFL Rookie Program.
Despite being overlooked in the 2023 National Draft, Evans impressed with his speed and lead in the draft combine, while also catching recruiters’ eye for his ability to read the ball and compete aerially.

Recruited from Norwood in the SANFL, the 18-year-old is also clean with his hands and ball use and will slot into the backline as a medium-sized defender when the Power take on the Lions.

  60. In bit of a pickle here..
Does Sinclair average more than ridley on the run home? I think so if Ross locks him in at HB

TU: Zorko this week & Sinclair next week
TU: Ridley this week & zorko/rankine next week
