  1. Serious question, what is the difference between an official practice match and an unofficial practice match?

    1. Historical context: the AFL never could get the clubs to agree how many games they actually wanted they varied in opinon from 1-3. So they typically have 2 official preseason games and let the clubs sort out the rest.

If some clubs want 3-4 games before the season starts they can organize extra games.

Also unoffical ones can have whacky rules like 6 quarters (yup 6) and larger benches.

    1. Touting winning an unofficial practice match as revenge for losing a final by 9 goals would be the most Essendon thing ever.
