  1. So Fyfe now has a knee complaint after having shoulder problems and surgeries over Summer. Must help Brodie get extra mid time. I read that Brodie had quite a few tackles while in the mid last week- so get the feeling he offers a lot to Freos midfield. Didn’t see the game- just after someone’s perspective from watching it last week.
Anybody watch the game last week and got any feedback- I’m picking him at this stage, but can be swayed- as with 90% of my forwards!

    1. There has been a knock on him on this site ever since Freo Tragic’s season preview on the Dockers, where FT explained how slow and unfit Brodie was (the rucks both beat him in the club time trial) and how he’ll struggle to run both ways (i.e., to attack and defend). Then all of a sudden the praccy matches come around, he’s named on ball, and brains it in both games:- 120 SC pts in the first game, then 100 in the AAMI game, where to answer your question, I think he had something like 9 tackles. Sure, they’re not high-impact games, but similar form has already been franked in the first two AFL games.

On the one hand, FT is right on the money about Brodie’s athleticism as it presents to the naked eye, mostly swayed by a postural abnormality. But on the other hand, he seems to be one of those players with genuine footy smarts, who can leverage everything he’s got, to always be in the right places on a footy field. Further, it sounds like the coach loves him and players want him in the guts. Fyfe or no Fyfe, he’s rookie priced with several pre-seasons under his belt at AFL level, the coach is publicly backing him in media statements and I’m 100% running with him in my team…

      1. I agree with these comments.

I have been ultra cautious with Brodie as his fitness and JS have been highly questionable. I’m certainly not the only Freo fan who had doubts on Brodie. His lack of flexibility to play in other spots make him a bit of a one trick pony . Now he is named in the guts ( albeit with out Fyfe ) His high ownership and ability to score make him a much more attractive prospect . The Crows midfield with an underdone Crouch and no laird provide a big chance for Brodie to shine early . This should give him the best chance to solidify his midfield spot . I will still be starting him with the knowledge he may need correcting at some stage. I just want to bet able to cheer him on in his first game in Freo colours and hope he can build his fitness as the year progresses.

Best of luck to all those on the Brodie train.

        1. Iam in freo tragic with the same logic get a score above other rookies then if it doesn’t work downgrade to the best missed rookie Crows then saints looking 4 80. plus or he’s out

  2. Maybe not the place to ask this but, with Baker looking like playing off half forward, at least for the interim, should IL
TU: switch him out for Sicily
TD: Downgrade to a riskier proposition like Hewitt
    Comment: Other ‘solid’ downgrade options?

    1. Put Kelly onto the ground and name Captain. Then name an emergency in Backline who’s going to play.
You’ll get Maccas Captain Score & the emergency backmans score.

  3. Which bomber rookie for my bench (considering both scoring potential and job security)

    TU: N Martin
    TD: K Baldwin

    1. Baldwin will be there most likely just for 4 weeks until Jones gets back. Martin will be in competition with the other SFs and could find a place in AMTs spot until he returns midseason.

possibly longer if Martin plays well and someone else looses their spot

  4. Ok so I have Hayes F8 and Dixon R3
Who has got the best JS to lock at R3
    Tu- Hayes
    Td – Dixon
Comment Yes/No – Then should I trade out the other for Bombers 102k rookie Fwd at F8?

  6. Lloyds out this week and currently have English at R2 with plans of swinging him forward if Preuss is named for GWS next week but I don’t think that’s a certainty.

    Who to field?
    TU: Ridley, Preuss R3
    TD: Stewart, H.Dixon R3

DEF currently consists of Crisp, Short, Whitfield, Hewett and McCartin.

    Cheers.

    1. I’m in the same boat Leo.

      Decided to do the following:

      Darcy to ROB
      Whitfield to Hinge
      Stephens to Z Merrett

A bit sideways I know but couldn’t justify the loss of points on playing Hayes over Darcy.

          1. Decided on Darcy to Preuss instead mate. Gives me the.ability to get a very strong Def and Mid with all of the high priced cows.

What a roller coaster!!! Hayes you Jet!!! Hope you went him over Dixon.

  9. Interesting concept- full playing side Vs a donut?

Saw a few on site preaching importance of getting all players on ground…
But very handle loopholing Long- Hawks mid/for to get Hayes score tonight! Sitting on 120 3/4 time- nice!

  10. Am a cats man- but how good is Daicos going to be as a long term player.
Never saw someone slot into the BACKLINE so smoothly and rack up disposals as easily.
Going to be a long term GUN!

    1. Best on ground in SA grand final and this first AFL game- as Tiny bags suggested- definitely use as loophole- may become a keeper longer term- who knows?
      Great Start!

  11. Def carnage means a couple of last min player swaps for me. Pretty much Butters to Sicily. Hopefully better balances the Def with under performance from Crisp and Ridley and SDK concussion out next week.
