Danger Signs

Written by MJ on July 18 2013

Patrick Dangerfield is as tough as nails. I don’t think anyone can disagree with that. However, the latest diagnosis on his shoulder injury is 1-4 weeks. Doesn’t give us a clear indication on what to do with the Dangerman does it? What’s your gut feeling on him? Keep or trade?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I sprained my shoulder in the sc off season playing cricket and I can tell you it took me 4 weeks just to be able to throw without pain so doubt he will be taking any hits on it over the next couple of weeks

  2. With cover such as Mitchell and Hrovat I think its not worth a trade chasing 20-30 more points over these two.

  3. Without stating the obvious, it really comes down to your bench cover and SC focus. I have Tom Mitchell, which is great coverage, and I’m focused on my two cash leagues, where I sit 1st and 2nd, and unlikely to drop out of top 4 unless I lose all three remaining games. As such, I’m willing to hold hoping he only misses 1 or 2 weeks. I want Dangerfield in my team come SC finals, he is clearly in the top 5 midfielders in the competition (and IMO likely to challenge Ablett / Pendlebury in the coming years).

  4. Tough one for those of us with minimal trades remaining (4).
Have cover for the remaining H&A games, however the trade finger is very itchy… Don’t want to head into finals down a prem mid. Barlow for mine is the obvious replacement.

Good luck with the overall standings too MJ, only 349 points from glory… It’s not over yet!

  5. I’m inclined to keep but not with much certainty. Got TMitchell so very good cover and can always trade Danger out later on if it looks like being more than 3 weeks. Issues such as underperforming so-called premium rucks in Maric and Nic Nat occupying more of my thinking time at the moment.

  6. Putting this in perspective, Dangers is ruled out this week at home v Geelong, why would they play him the following week v Fremantle at Patersons Stadium…… After having an AC strain, sitting on a plane to Perth & being tagged by Creepy Crowley isn’t going to be the best antidote for recovery.

Now I know that he smashed out an impressive 187 v Freo last time they met in 2012, but that was at AAMI & Scotty Thompson was playing great footy at that stage so De Boer (tagged) likely ran with Dangers & Creepy Crowley kept Thommo relatively quiet for his standards.
Now Thommo has been a bit quieter this season so if Dangers plays against Freo….he’s in for a nagging game as Creepy Crowley will be given a job by FURL…..that will be to wear Dangers like a glove & nag him all night!

I’m thinking after reading different articles on the internet, hearing different opinions on footy shows & radio feed back…..he’ll return against Port Adelaide at AAMI in R19 at best, that will be 23 days after the incident itself.

For me, he’s gonski……….at $611,900, I can trade him & filter some $$$$ & quality into 2 separate lines on top of what cash I already have currently in the bank. On top of this I still have the luxury of having 7 trades before I pull the trigger this round.

Good luck with your decision making SCT coaches 🙂

  7. If he is out 2 weeks and you trade him out, unless you go to ablett or pendles, you will be wanting him back.

If you are waiting for 4 weeks, you will feel like a fool.

  8. If Tommy Mitchell is your M9 you’d be silly to hit the trade button just yet. Unless you’re a shot at overall and have the trades.

  9. I only have 4 trades left and I am confortably in the top4 in all three of my leagues so I am going to hold fire for now.

If the prognosis doesnt get any better by the time SC finals start, I will trade him to Barlow.

The way I look at it, yes its over $600k on the bench, but he is not going to reduce in value! As long as you can finish top4 (ie have a decent fixture next 3 matches) no point jumping the gun.

If you’re going for the over-all prize, that’s a completely different (and a very tricky) decision.

  10. Under 5 trades, so holding him – Have Mitchell as M9, sitting a top on league tables so not rushing to hit trade button any time soon with Dangerfield!

  12. I’m trading him out for a number of reasons:

1 – I don’t see Adelaide making the finals. Because of this, why do they rush him back? He is now the undisputed star of your side, who plays a highly combative style and you want to get the most out of him for as long as possible. If there is any chance that he injures himself further, it’s not worth the risk and I think that they will take that attitude, regardless of Dangerfield’s personal desire to return as quickly as possible.

2 – By trading him down to an under-priced star (say JPK), that’ll give me enough money to upgrade another player. Instead of one premium on the bench, I get two premiums on the field.

3 – This is a personal, I-have-the-trades-thing, but I can trade him out now with his very high breakeven (172) and if I get another injury later, I can always bring him back in.

4 – It’ll be a PoD. He is in nearly 27% of all SuperCoach sides and I think that a lot will keep him in case it is only a week or they can’t trade him due to dwindling trades.

  13. This question isn’t even remotely universal – it will depend far too much on individual circumstances … obviously the person has to have Danger to care, but beyond that, how many trades do they have, are they already comfortably in the SC Finals – have they pretty much secured the 2nd chance already ? Answer these questions for each individual and you pretty much have each individual’s answer. If you want a simple unified answer, then that would be “It depends”.

  14. I’ll most likely be trading him, I kept faith that Shuey would only miss 1 and he has gone on to burn me with missing 3 weeks and he is still listed as test…

Like DC said I don’t think Adelaide can play finals so I can’t see them rushing him back and if he does return on the hope of finals what are the chances he is 100% and able to produce those massive 120+ scores that we crave. There is a good chance they’ll play him forward and hope that he can snag a few goals with his brilliance.

I can straight swap for him for almost anyone I want, so someone like Barlow who is on fire (124 avg the last 5) and in only 10% of teams is somewhat appealing.

  15. I honestly think that the 1-4 week prognosis is a little propaganda from Adelaide. They have had a poor year and will want to give their fans hope that Danger will be back in two. I could be wrong but I would say it would be closer to four – if they don’t cotton wool him altogether.

  16. He will 100% not play the next 2 weeks. He will also 100% play against the Power the week after. Which gives young Paddy 23 days of recovery. The kids hard as a cats head and would be chomping at the bit to get back for the showdown. Keep for me, no brainer.

  17. 4 trades left and a full premo midfield with Terlich to upgrade in defence to either Hanley or Ibbottson. Had planed on doing that this week

I also have TMitchell and Horvat so can sit on Danger for 2-3 weeks and wait and see if he comes up. If he doesn’t then I don’t lose any money and can pick a form player to go into SC Finals.

  18. With the Dangerfield situation I currently sit in the top 4 of 3 of my leagues, but I don’t exactly have the 2nd chance locked up, many others below are waiting for the opportunity to snatch it from Cliffy FC. Would this be a valid argument for trading out Danger from my team? (T/U) Or not? (T/D) Only 5 trades remaining, really want to save them come finals time.
