Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Friday, June 14, 7.50pm AEST
What it means for Essendon: It’s the first game of a big three weeks for the Bombers if they’re to make a dash to the finals. They face West Coast (away) and then Greater Western Sydney after the Hawks, so need to bag a win before facing the top-four contenders.
What it means for Hawthorn: The Hawks are similarly middle-road like the Bombers, so if they’re to stay in the race for the top eight, being a win ahead of their rivals would give them a handy position.
The stat: Hawthorn’s had a truly up-and-down season. Alastair Clarkson’s side hasn’t been able to string together back-to-back wins yet, and in the past seven weeks have alternated between wins and losses. If the trend continues, it’s not good news for the Bombers.
The match-up: James Sicily v Jake Stringer
Stringer is expected to return from his hamstring strain to take on the Hawks, and could a match-up against gun defender Sicily await? Sicily is ranked the second best small-medium defender in the game according to the Official AFL Player Ratings.
It’s a big week for: Jack Gunston
After a six-goal haul in the Hawks’ round 10 win over Port Adelaide, Gunston didn’t hit the scoreboard in their loss to Brisbane in round 11 before their bye last week. At his best he’ll pose problems for the Bombers.
Big call: The Worpedo is best afield with 33 disposals and a goal in a damaging midfield performance.
Mottsy’s Tip: Hawthorn by 20 points

NO LATE CHANGES
FINAL INTERCHANGES
Essendon: Darcy Parish, Kyle Langford, Mason Redman, Matt Guelfi
Hawthorn: Conor Glass, Kaiden Brand, Dylan Moore, James Cousins
Like the tip.
Had forgotten about Gunston. If he truly has rediscovered his kicking form then he has to be in the mix for the back half of the season huh?
Can post the scores if you fancy a night off PJ?!
I guess he’s working.
na AS
been off work all week
thx mate
sounds good
had the flu all week
cant get outa 1st gear
As a long time Essendon supporter, this is the match up I love the most … remembering all those clashes back in the 80’s, 90’s etc … bit different these days though … Bombers have been a tad disappointing this year (from where they were expected to be)
Just panicked for a second there as Eddie said its been pouring in Melbourne – thought the match was at the G but see its at Marvel – whew … can you send some rain up here please??
atkins to merrett please?
Will he cop the hutchings and de boer tag the next two rounds?
or bont…
Gee Clarke is tempting to grab in only his second game and being named in the mids again … should stick with the rules (Josh Glenn) though and stay with Bewley yeah??
If you can’t go Bewley this and Clarke next, ie only get one, I’d go Clarke. JS has to be pretty good given he’s held his spot with all your INs this week?!
Just what im in the process of doing. This was my three trade bye week, and as i can now hold off the rob/grundy trade, its clarke next week. He’s a 200 gamer.
PJ, Macca, AS and myself.
Who is getting the scores tonight?
PJ’s crook – GD … AS offered to post them … so if he’s happy to, I’m happy to sit back and just watch THE MIGHTY BOMBERS smash those dastardly HAWKS!! *wink*!!
Alright, np. I can cover over the weekend as well.
Good luck, Macca. Rootin’ for the Dons…and Sicily, brought him in this week lol.
haha – I’m happy if Sicily gets no more than 70 … *wink* … and price drop helps me get him cheaper next week or later!! + it means he hasn’t had too big an impact on the game!!
izzy might be the difference tonight
if he fires , the bombers wont have any one fit enough to go with him
nice to have mcevoy back
Sicily playing forward to start
Sicily starting forward?!
F**k me.
Dodgednone there. If Steele hadn’t gone down, he’d have been an IN for me this week.
Happy to do the scores for this one GD. With PJ sick will offer up when I can on the weekend 🙂
I did tell you Sic would play forward!
Sicily AND Zerrett starting in their respective forward lines :/
The week I bring in sicily… damn
clarko’s just rotating early
he goes fwd & times every game
Yeah the week I bring Sicily in he goes forward! Any news on why he is playing forward ?
To make Hurley accountable.
Stratton still pinching like a bitch. Needs to be decked.
worps looks on for a 120 tomight
He does every week. Always on 80 at 3qtr time and ends up on 90. Frustrating to own!
Jeez, Sicily is a beautiful kick.
hawks got no big target up fwd
hendo’s gotta be leading the hawks B & F @ the minute
Henderson M8?

sorry mate. Will be a little late with HT scores too, but don’t worry if you want the night off. I can post them all and the others on time, with pre- and post-scaling 😉
all good mate
ill post this game
only takes 30 seconds
Sicily playing forward is really really dumb by Clarko … but good for Bombers and for those in SC who dont own him!!
has to play there , hawks got no fwds
I’ll post them at the half gents!!
AS – back to you for the other two quarters mate if you want??
Come on Sicily!
that ref is an effing idiot for that call … FFS same as Anzac day!!
Bombers need to always beat the team we play and the umps
yep – Razor Ray is a banker — you know what I mean … *wink*
Yeah, some stiff ones against Stringer in particular.
*not a Dons supporter btw
looks like clarke is gna add omera’s scalp this week
yep, the kid can sure shut down a player … without cheap little pinching BS that Stratton carries on with
Superb body work from Sicily. Made sure that was a goal.
Sicily come on!!!!!!
he’s playing forward pocket mate – gonna struggle to post a decent score if he stays there …
Bombers blowing a potential decent HT lead …

NB there are just 5 pts left to allocate for the half.
take over the other two quarters mate!! Nice layout!
scully gett’n better every game
Macca, PJ and AS. All three of you geniuses just posted the scores lol. I held off posting myself knowing this would happen.
Who’s getting them for the rest of the game?
haha – yeah, I did post up above that I would do em at the half!!
AND I beat PJ by 1 minute!!
anyone know the scores?!?
i’ll leave it to you PJ.
Sicily to back flank for the second half, Frawley/Brand/o’brien to be traded to anyone next year ( hopefully)
probably the worst kicking accuracy from the hawks all year
Where is Sicily? Haven’t seen him this quarter.
playing in defence now mate – scores going up accordingly …
30 points in 21 minutes thus far … wish Worpel would learn to do that each quarter … goes missing too often to be a quality mid …
These umpires furkin sukk
Seeing the Hawks struggle to take F50 marks, seeing Clarko swing the talls around to try and find a target it got me thinking, why on earth is Roughy not back in the team. Surely he’d be a good target and would kick 1-2 goals a game.
roughy’s gone mate , too old
clarko looks fwd not back
gotta see what he’s got over the next premiership window
rough be retired by then
but he’s still got value as a teacher for the up n comers
Looking like the VC on Zerrett would have been a good option tonight …
Asked this before but it got pushed up by scores posts, so I’ll ask again: thoughts on Henderson as M8?
Clearly more than a purple patch now, on track for B&F, looks great.
Parish also going well with DPP too … hmmmm
better every week and plays that lovely SC role just in front of the contest. gonna overtake McGrath in the breakout stakes.
Don’t like the selection as he’s heavily dependent on amassing a large amount of the ball and doesn’t gather sufficient contested possessions or tackles to compensate in those poor games. Devoid of consistency and an insufficient ceiling.
Around 2 dozen players I’d prefer to select in the mids instead.
Monster quarter from Sicily.
yeah – best part of 50 points FFS … not what I wanted (sorry to owners!) I’d like him cheaper in a week or two …
good for me , get’n him cheap , 400k would be nice
Lol, Poppy stepping right up to Bellchambers. Marvelous.
Got nothing else
I wonder what Bellchambers said to him to piss him off

Redman needs to lose those late fists, gotta get those out of his game. Promising defender if he can do that.
Hawthorn come on your kicking……..
70 from clarke would be nice
get a good proffit from him after his bubble
he heard you PJ!!
Begley. He might just save my TECHTeam with only 14 playing this week 😉
Not sure we can criticize umpires these days ……. but IF we could, i’d put it to you that that’s one of the worst decisions I’ve seen.
If the Hawks manage it from here … gulp
If the game was on the line, THAT free to Breust would be a HUGE discussion point with the media the way it is today.
Clarke claims two scalps…. next week Gaff?
Umps trying to keep the Hawks in this wtf.
Normal every week GB…
What a load of frog shit.
hawks never going to win the flag this year
too many kids & 1st , 2nd year imports
@ least the hawks get an easier draw next year finishing lower
birchall , mitchell & mohr will be back fit
another preseason into o’mera , scully &
wingard , who hopefully wont have his hammy niggles
maybe pick up coniglio & a key fwd
who knows what could happen next year
haha timmy mohr
two out of three aint bad..birchall and mohr ???
Worpel 97… dam close to 100
merrrett loves a team that doesn’t tag
that is correct when a team tags he scores shit
Yeah only 13 contested possessions, just cruises !!!
Can you list all the players that score well with a tag pj.

Wish Sicily played backline all game..
What does it take for Hawthorn to be back to their normal premiership form?
a time machine to go back dome years??
*some* … ffs … text correction!!
LOL
Two years?!?
imo , just time , more experience into our players
clarko won’t admit it publicly but the hawks have been in a rebuild since 2016 ,
when yr no 1 & 2 onfield mids have about 40 games experience combined ,
& yr 2 key fwds have about 40 combined also ,
takes a coach time to build the right team around em ,
scully , wingard , mohr , impy & scrimshaw ,
are still learning the hawthorn system ,
they need another pre season under clarkos guidance ,
getting back tommy , brich & mohr next year will be a big step fwd ,
our recruiters & VFL affiliate are excellent ,
they’ll do their jobs well & add good depth for next year ,
the rest of this year will be more about the players & support staff working on the right things for next year
2020 they’ll have a real crack like 2008 ,
then we should have an 8 year window again with our young list
clarko knows its all about silverware ,
more importantly , he knows how to get it
Mitchell is one of the top 5 midfielders in the comp and he’s been out all season. I think his play last year papered over some of the hawks’ issues.
think that’s the first game this year that i haven’t had a single SC player playing. The only other side of no interest currently is NTH.
That may change on all three fronts over the coming weeks.
not sure Ziebell will be worth it mate …
lol
hehehe … yes, the ‘other North Player’ continues to surprise …
oops – forgot to say, Zerrett IS worth it … have held him all year … gets some bad calls by umps at times … and yes, struggles with a hard tag … but most do … but, fingers crossed (do not smite me SC Gods!) i’ve been happy thus far …
with Merrett likely to be tagged the next three weeks (Hutchings, De Boer and Hewett/Clarke), he’ll have to wait for now.
*sad face* @@$$# taggers!!! (he says whilst applauding Clarke!!)
How long would it take in local footy to knock stratten out,
il tell ya 10 seconds
htf do they let that bullshit happen, why because know one wants to get suspended.
Give him two weeks for being a week as piss would be tough guy
Team-mates of fantasia weak as piss as well for not fronting him
as a hawk supporter im a little shocked that stratts used the pinchy tactic
im sure he’s probably just stressed , having the C thrown on him & the team struggling
was a completely inappropriate thing to do & should be fined for it
back in the day i played full back & if someone started well you’d just throw a knee into em in the pack n that was that
old ways are the best
interesting point that his team mated didn’t help him though
Stratton’s actions were amongst the most cowardly you could hope to not see. Picking on a little bloke is bad enough, but doing it when you know you can’t be dealt with in the old fashioned way, is as weak as pi55. I remember Craig Kelly doing this, but never to plugger.
