Where and when: Sunday 4th July at 6:10pm (AEST) at Giants Stadium
Last time they met: Rd 21, 2019: Giants 4.5 (29) lost to Hawthorn 13.7 (85)
What it means for the Giants: A winning record and a win against a possible top 8 spot rival! Momentum! A chance to put their two bad games behind them and look forward. They could use a win here, if it isn’t obvious.
What it means for the Hawks: A win means they go from 8th to 3rd! Maybe better but the % would have to be monstrous, but still, 3rd! A loss, and they end up about…where they are in 8th if it is close and back to 9th if they get pounded.
GWS: A list! Kelly, Coniglio, Greene, Green, Haynes, Perryman.
Hawthorn: Titach, and Sicily are the high ownership Hawks, and Wingard and Ceglar are the less high but still relevant ones. Sicily made a bid for FD’s watch this match because of his being named forward, but with Whitield playing, he’s a distant second.
Father Dougal’s Watch: Whitfield. Owned by about half the game, despite his rather inspired potato imitation this season. Non-owners are hoping for yet another round of spudding, and yet more price drops. His owners are hoping he goes past his 186 break even. Both are possible.
Father Dougal’s Tip: Huh, three in a row that I’m not so sure on. Hopes of a good day of games. Or hopes of a boring day saved by this one. In any case, I feel like the Hawks are less discombobulated than the Giants, so with that ringing endorsement; Hawks by 10
