Game Chat – Sydney v Carlton

Written by Motts on July 13 2019

Where and when: SCG, Saturday July 13, 1.45pm AEST

What it means for Sydney: The Swans missed an opportunity against Essendon last week and must take care of Carlton to get back in the finals hunt, with four tough games against Fremantle (away), Geelong (home), GWS (away) and Port Adelaide (away) to follow.

What it means for Carlton: The Blues have won two of their past four and those two losses were by less than a kick, so they’ve earned some respect under caretaker coach David Teague. A win over the Swans in Sydney will do wonders for their confidence.

The stat:  Sydney had 64 clangers and its conversion (42.9 per cent) in front of goal was also poor last week but John Longmire’s team lost by just 10 points to Essendon. They’ll need to improve their finishing and decision-making to beat the Blues.

The match-up: Luke Parker v Jack Silvagni

Sydney’s co-captain has been a star over the past couple of months so Silvagni could get the job at the SCG after shutting down some big names recently.

It’s a big week for: Matthew Kruezer

The Swans’ ruck stocks have been decimated so the former No.1 draft pick has a real chance to impose himself on the contest and give his band of onballers plenty of quality ball. Kreuzer had nine clearances himself against Melbourne last week and could be a key player at the SCG.

Big call: The Blues will give up a 30 point lead by 3/4 time and then storm home in the last on the back of a 15 possession quarter by Patrick Cripps to win by less than a kick.

Mottsy’s Tip: Caaaarlton by 5

    1. I traded him out when he got suspended and he is exactly what my team could do with at F7.
      Lesson learnt for next year.

I traded in Jack Silvagni for Hore this week. He is doing pretty good. Not expecting the world but if he can average 70 for the rest of the season I’ll take it.

  2. Got the E on Murphy on 87 at 3QT. Assuming he keeps going in the final quarter, who do I bench?

  3. Setters just got a free kick (4 points), 2 kicks (8 points) and a mark (2 ;points? ) in the last 30 seconds … his score DID NOT MOVE!!! … The scoring system and CD are ab-so-lute — BS!! So sick of this rubbish high scoring early and scaling crap … assign scores for every stat … and pay the effing scores … forget this rubbish 3300 total score crap …

      1. nah – he got 5 extra in scaling – going from 65 to 70 BUT he should have gone to 79 … its crap!

        1. I concur. Watched that one keenly. He was robbed in the last Q. Pts were overs by nearly 150 at the half. It’s no wonder … but also crap.
I agree, scrap the 3300 rubbish, but it will mean that BEs are nothing more than gross estimates. I’m all for it.
We could then pick 6 dogs, 5 giants, 4 pies, 3 powers, 2 saints and a team full of nothing but guns!
          Merry Christmas everybody!

          1. yep – dictating that an entire match can only have a maximum amount of points, shared between two teams is absolute garbage and leaves it open to BS scoring … worse, they over allocate early and dont reward players later … total crap system.

They can easily reset the points awarded for each stat … and just award them as they are earnt … much fairer system …
