Kreuzer must make it through training this week before he’s considered for selection again, having missed a fortnight with an elevated heart rate. Weitering suffered a severely corked quad against the Suns and will also have a fitness test later in the week. The nightmare continues with Scharenberg to undergo a third knee reconstruction, Elliott suffering another injury in the VFL, Howe and Mihocek to be assessed and Mayne having scans for an unspecified issue. De Goey will miss at least another game, while Sier, Appleby and Reid are closing in on returns. Goldsack could be a shock inclusion in the Pies’ VFL side and Treloar also holds out hope of strengthening the Pies’ line-up before the finals, but Dunn, Wells and Broomhead won’t play again this season. The club continues to monitor Kirby’s heart issue. – Ben Collins

The Cats will be sweating on Tom Stewart‘s fitness ahead of a season-defining fortnight against Richmond and Hawthorn. Better than first feared, Stewart has escaped structural damage. Harry Taylor said last week he will look to ramp up the recovery on his torn tendon in coming weeks but looks a long shot to play this week, having not trained for three weeks. Stewart Crameri and Lincoln McCarthy will be hoping to return after last week’s VFL bye. Esava Ratugolea was spotted running last week away from the main group. – Mitch Cleary

Prestia played out the win over Collingwood with sore ribs and will miss Friday night’s clash with Geelong after scans confirmed a fracture. He’s only expected to miss the one game following a bruising bump from Travis Varcoe. Ellis also finished the game after corking his thigh and will need to see how he pulls up before Friday night. Butler and Graham are getting close with the Tigers to know more about their potential return dates this week; it appears Graham is a chance to come back against Gold Coast in round 21 and Butler in the following weeks. Conca is ramping up his training and moving closer to a return before finals that could include VFL time as soon as the week after next, while Houli is expected to play in the VFL on Saturday against the Cats. Menadue came out of the team last week because of a minor hamstring complaint but is a chance to be available this week. – Jennifer Phelan
