Target is to upgrade the rucks at a later point as i have noticed in previous years it can be very hard to get onto that golden combo at the start.

Good plan of attack Maverick. I never put too much money on my Ruck bench. I usually like to go for at least 1 star in the Ruck, this year it will be Sandi ….. as it was last year.

Agree with Duck. Rucks can be notoriously fickle. Set Sandi, and forget. Otherwise, Cox looks like he might get back his mojo. Personally, I’ve slotted both in.

Pretty unique team – I quite like it – main queries would be on Leuenberger, Yarran and Watts but this could be their break out year so worth a punt

Thanks Davo, I am really trying for a good balance. Risks with Cover, Solid Contibutors, and benchies who will play 80% of games (hopefully). The only exception that i can see is Ayce Cordy, but one smokey ain’t too bad.

Good looking squad. My ?s would be over JR, PD, CY and JW in the fwd line. I would prefer to only have 2 of them, 3 at a squeeze. Maybe ditch Knights (too exp to sit on the pine) and upgrade one. You could even downgrade Boak (maybe) and put Heppell on the field (another possible waste of $ on the pine) and upgrade another.

R – Sandilands, Tippett (Z Smith, T Derickx)

F – N Riewoldt, Franklin, Rioli, O’Keefe, Petrie, A Krakouer, Mzungu (Prestia, Michie, I Smith)

Gees, like the look of this team Davo. Up to about 13 100+ players there. I like your strategy in having a couple of cashcows on the park. You should see some big scores from that group.

Nice team, can’t see it having trouble throughout the year. the only question mark for me is Savage. He is good but which Hawk is he going to replace? Also, what made you go with Derickx if you don’t mind me asking?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Reply

Davo February 15, 2011 at 6:08 pm

Savage is no certainty I must say for my team – I may look to Gaff or Conca instead but Savage at this stage represents better value – he was impressive in the NAB Cup so he may squeeze in to the side, but i understand the hawks few injuries so that makes it tough – it will come down to how the round 1 teams shape up I guess.

I thought Derickx looked quite good for the Tiges on the weekend and given their ruck stocks are pretty ordinary, he should play a bit.

Rickaby February 15, 2011 at 6:19 pm

It would seem to be a mix of heavy scorers and cheapies with only a few middle-of-the-roaders. This is not a criticism as I have gone much the same way. My main ?s would be over the number of starting rookies and my old mate Tippett (burnt me last year). I’m imagining you picked him for his DPP status (and of course his undoubted potential) but I just couldn’t do it. Derickx could be an inspired choice after his efforts on the weekend.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

Reply

Davo February 15, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Yeah, Tippett is definitely in there for the DPP status and look I think he will have a better year this season – and a lot of ppl have gone off him, so he could be unique.

I would like to hope that the cheapies will raise enough in value so I can upgrade/downgrade to build my number of premiums by season end – no doubt injuries will play a role but I have chosen my premiums based on timing of byes – particularly finals byes

Good, solid logic with the associated risk of which there is no avoiding. Good luck with Tippett – I’m an Adelaide man and would love to see him carve it up.

He’s underpriced in my view given his previous years performances – he was injured most of last year too – will be watching him closely during the NAB cup and if he plays well (against sides other than GWS and GC) then I will keep him – if not i’ll go with Goodesy

Pretty nice team this – only issue is you will have a number of premiums out in the finals – ie Selwood, Gibbs, Bartel, Enright

I would maybe sell Yarran and Knights to get another fwd premium and look at someone like Krakouer

Overall its a nice balance

Thanks Davo. I hadn’t considered finals. Altho, just had a quick look and the Cats players should be ok. After I finish top of the ladder and win the 1st game, I’ll have that week off anyway… right?

I see your point about Yarran. Probably will ditch to upgrade somewhere else. 3 players in the 300k zone is no good.

But if I can’t nut it out, then I’ll just copy your team!

Pie supporter?

Question on Tarrant at that annoying mid-price. To be honest, don’t think he will score huge. Probably better off bringing in a rookie and upgrading else where. Dids is injured, isn’t he? And Bock too?

You could also be in trouble with the pies have their byes. That’s a lot to cover, Swan and Dids in the middle, O’Brien and Tazz in the back. Same with the Saints. There’s plenty of healthy SC scorers in other teams – try to diversify a bit.

3 of your 4 rucks are from the same team, that has a bye in R1. How is that good? You can MPP Petrie into the RUC, but that will leave 2 rookies on your FWD line. Very risk stuff, I think you should rethink.

Goddard VCAPT, gibbs, enright, gilbee, drummond, otten, heppell (talia, duigan, poupolo)
Ablett CAPT, swan, judd, deledio, J corey, D swallow (gaff, conca, harris)
sandilands, jolly (bailey, campbell)
chapman, N riewoldt, Knights, petrie, A krakouer, mzungu, I smith (panos, darling, I callinan)
I realise my forward line is a bit risky and is likely to change before rnd 1 but had trouble finding consistant forwards last year so this time i’m trying to load up on cash cows and make the points in the midfield and defence.
Oh, and i just have a feeling that Ableet will come out firing in rnd 2 so i put him as captain (even though i realise he has a bye the first week)

Bit surprised you have the coin. Best 2 players from every line. 3 600k+ players… gees. Nicely done.

I agree that forward line lat year was not very consistant, and I think will be even less so this year. Can’t see Pav, Goodes, ROK of yester year continuing to rack up SC points like they used to. Buddy and Didak should be gold this year if they remain injury free. Look to upgrade later in the season.

yea thats exactly why i chose the cash cows in the forward line, buddy let me down last year, and didak will hopefuly be fit enough to be an upgrade target with A krakouer, also tossing up to see J corey in action, he was a supercoach superstar in 2009 and hopefully will return to form this year, if he does, he’s a great buy at that price!

oh and i disagree on PAV, will see how he goes but i will be looking to get him into the team the first chance i can upgrade a rookie, with a stronger team around him and him getting on in age he’ll most liely be given the freedom to play where ever he likes, veteren’s usually score well like that, even if it makes them a bit inconsistant.

Pretty solid side. Could easily put Heppell on the field and downgrade Nicoski (has frustrated many a coach in the past). Is that Kerr of the WC variety? If so, dump and run now – he is an injury magnet and his best is behind him. Not sure about McLean either – could be an inspired choice, though.

You’ve got Goddard and Deledio both in the backs. Maybe switch one to the middle (or bring in Gibbs… altho, you don’t want too many players from 1 team) so you can use the flexibility of the dual position player throughout the season.

Same could be said regarding the forward line, Chappy, Pav and Sylvia.

Kerrrrrrrrrr…. no. I know he’s bargain basement… but has proven time and time again he can’t do it without judd and cous.

My 2 cents:
Some interesting selections, but could come good. Bruce is a bit too much of a risk for mine. Big price, 32 yo and a new club. Having Harvey & Green is in the forwards is risky as both are on in age. I would think that their prices are only going to go down. Maybe a rethink on a rookie for Green, and use the extra to upgrade Harvey to Chappy.
I reckon about 8-9 100+ players.

You don’t need to trade Chappy during finals time for two reason.
1. Sub Chappy for a mid/fwd dpp and put Chappy on the pine.
2. If you have finished in the top 4 of your league and you win the Qualifying final, you wouldn’t need to trade Chappy because you’ll have the bye.

Maybe the mids are a bit short. Corey may come back to his best, but started to play half-back line towards the end of last year. Has always racked up SC points due to working harder than anyone else, but after 5-6 years of this, starting to show wear.
Steele is another one, but for different reasons. In that difficult price band, but if you have faith, could become a premium, but I think it’s a big step up in the premiership team. When you already have Swan, Pendles, Daisy etc taking points can Steel steal enough to make it worth it. Prefer Trengrove and Anthony (melb & roos respectively) due to being in up and coming teams.
Heater was very inconsistant last year, so be ware.

About 8-9 100+ players

Hey jim, welcome to the wonderful world of posting, always happy to hear one more voice in the cacophony.

Its a good looking team, I just think you need to give some more thoughts to DPPs – they’re going to be extremely helpful this year with the byes and if all the rookies on the bench in any one of your positions don’t get a run in any given week.

Here’s what I’d do:
- The backline is bloody good (ie almost the same as mine right now) – but push Gibbs into the middle to DPP with Goddard. Maybe take Murphy out to do that. Bring another rookie onto the field.
- Switch Krakouer and Didak, trade Davey for a cheap midfield rookie that’s going to get game time from week 1, then switch whoever that is with Swallow. Most #1 draft picks are good enough to start on the field for you.
- Rucks are good.
- With the $ you made on the Davey & Murphy trades, upgrade either Prestia or Cam Richardson – 3 rooks on the field in any position other than your midfield is pushing it.

Hope that helps mate – don’t stop posting :-)

Didak is still not 100% from the pectoral muscle he tore before the finlas last year. He will start this year slow and become a premium again by the years end. Perfect upgrade target mid year!!!

Have you considered J Tippett instead of Bailey or Smith so you can swap with Petrie when Jolly has his two byes?

I disagree Sanders, bringing in a dud (at this stage anyway) like j tippet into your team just for the sake of DPP could be disastrous. I believe you’re better off just using Smith (who will play regular games) or even putting Petrie as your R3.

You might be right. If Tippett has forward capabilities he may find himself playing games throughout the season even if not round one. It is along season and God Coast will give opportunity to a wide range of players. I am hoping the tall forward will be on their radar. I guess we will know a little more this weekend.

Bruce may be used as a tagger at the hawks and is in the twilight of his career, a no if u ask me. Just make sure players like Isaac Smith, Dyson Heppell and Andrew Krakouer are named and playing before starting them on the field.

OK I’ve been reading the site for weeks and I’ve followed as much of the advice as I think is possible. Have put more thought into this team than I thought was possible. Can someone please have a look at it and let me know what they think. Personally, I think its perfect.

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Deledio, G. Broughton, J. Grimes, A. Otten, D. Heppell, S. McKernan (J. Toy, N. Duigan, P. Puopolo)

MID: S. Pendlebury, L. Hodge, B. Gibbs, L. Anthony, S. Higgins, D. Swallow (A. Gaff, D. Harris, S. Atley)

Firstly, you shouldn’t hump poultry, fresh or frozen. It doesn’t matter, it’s wrong.

Perfeeeect, hey? Well, let’s take a look. IMO, mids are missing a super, ie. swan, gaj or even selwood or Montag. Pendles is solid, and Hodge might get back to 08-09 form, but for me, just missing that auto captain for when Goddard is having a rest.

But a pretty good team overall with excellent balance. If McKernan gets game early good be great value. I have a feeling he’ll be a downgrade target about Rnd 8. At least that’s what the tarot cards are saying. Only question marks would be on Higgins (will he stay fit?), Dids (fitness) and Dangermouse (consistancy?).

Prob about 11-12 100+ scorers.

Dids will take awhile to get going so not a great option in your Round 1 team. McKernan had 1 good nab cup game but is a tall forward and they are inconsistent. just make sure he’s named before including him. Patty Dangermouse is an excellent choice IMO. He has been talked up by so many people to be an absolute star but hasn’t quite showed it yet. Entering his 4th season now and will turn 21 in april. Didn’t have his breakout year last year like many thought but show signs of doing that in the 1st week of nab cup with scores of 147 and 129. I just liked the look of him on fri night, seems to be a little more composed and always tackles hard

Goddard, Gibbs and Deledio are all DPP. If you move one to the mids, it’ll allow much more flexibility to your team. Other than that, looks pretty strong. Only question is on Higgins and Bock.

I have tried to use keepers from teams not playing in finals too much and really want to do well in leagues more than site, so the multiple byes are not a bother so much.

Maybe just a couple of quibles. Pav, goodes and Brown are all getting on in age. I think 1-2 of them will be fine (maybe Pav), but all 3 could be a risk.
Gilby was inconsistant at the end of last year, hopefully he finds his consistancy again. Is Drummond injured?

nice team maxy but Ablett prob wont have a great year due to not having the same quality around him as he had at geelong. I might be wrong but i wouldnt chose gary.
Heard rodney eade talking about Wallis and Libretore and he said that they have a pretty settled midfield at the moment but the should get a go sometime during the year (prob if there’s an injury) so i’m thinking he’s a good downgrade target during the year.
Kurt Tippet is risky, burnt me last year.

Roller, I’m intersested to know how much money you have left, as you dont have any the big $ players (Goddard, Swan, Selwood, Gibbs, Delidio, Reiwoldt, Chapman)

A lot of money sitting on your midfield bench. Consider starting swallow on the field and swapping maybe houli for premium like swan or goddard.

J Charman is a thing of the past IMO, i know he’s cheap but ur better off going for Z Smith from GC or for a bit extra and a bit of extra security go D Petrie, Avged 85-90 in the four years before last year

Ok i’ve taken a while to get posting, after reading and reading and reading some more on this site as well as others, ive decided to finally give my opinion about a few teams. I’ve got a pretty good track history at SC having won the premiership in 5 out of the 6 leagues i’ve entered in over the past 2 years. I would love to hear from a few of you guys about my team and just as with everyone this team I’ve chosen about a dozen times, changing it every time but here is my team as it stands now.

TEAM NAME: Bender Rovers
DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, B. Deledio, G. Broughton, J. Grimes, A. Otten, M. Coad (N. Duigan, M. Hibberd, P. Puopolo)
MID: J. Selwood, S. Pendlebury, A. Swallow, K. Jack, D. Swallow, D. Heppell (D. Harris, T. Mzungu, S. Atley)

Few points:
Firstly, with a team name like that, Chevy Chase should be your Captain (out of Fletch) depending on your demographic;
Heppell the only Mid DPP for your 3 Def guns? Would prefer to see one of them start in the mids give you have Hibberd at Def DPP as well for balance;
I like the way there’s alot of Swallowing going on in your midfield – no room for spitting;
Petrie is alot of money sitting at R3, particularly if he kills it early. I acknowledge he is there to cover Gaylands for the byes but if he does kill it you would be better to have him in the Fwds with JT @ R4 for DPP IMO;
You have 3 Crows in your Fwd line with only Mzungai as a Mid DPP available for the Rd 2 bye so you better hope at least 2 of Smith, Prestia or Richardson are playing.
I’m not a fan of having Danger and Knights in the same team as both can be inconsistent and injury prone. I don’t think you really expect them to be keepers?
All in all pretty close to the required starting lineup to have a tilt.
Like all of your rookies which is where I see it won or lost this year overall as the midpricers are a raffle.

Toy, Duigan, Puopolo
Pendles, Joey, Lids, Corey, ROK, Mzungai
Swallow, Harris, Hibberd
Voldt, Buddy, Cyril, Goodes, Petrie, Krakeour, Callinan
Prestia, Smith, Richardson
Salary cap left: $0

My analysis is that gives me a possible 16 keepers best case scenario with 13 WCS.
WCS leaves 18 upgrade trades with 6 left for injuries.

Do your best boys and girls (and PA)

Ok Deano,
Goddard is way too expensive, will be hard to hold his value, good upgrade option (yes he’s in my team but that will prob change).
Gilbee is not the same player he used to be, getting on a bit (almost 30) and on a downward trend.
Duffield cant play away from Subi.
Plus you have $0 left which means you wont be doing a lot of upgrading. Always handy having a bit a dosh in the bank.
But thats all that i can pick out as possible flaws in an otherwise pretty impessive team. Hope my comments helped.

I have grimes at the moment and also greg broughton who i think will be a gun this year. He’s a little more expensive than duffield but well worth it i think. Entering third year in AFL and is expected to move into freo’s midfield this year also. Delidio is another i think is great for your backline. DPP and the tigers should improve, meaning he should also. If not, a 102 avg is pretty handy for a defender.

– Goodes, ROK, Hurn, Duffman and Gilbee, are all too inconsistent IMO.
– Having Petrie, Kark and Callinan starting could cost you league wins early on ( if that’s what your aiming for?)

I think with still some 5 weeks on so, still to go B4 lockout, you’ll have a great team with a bit of tweaking here and there.

My main worry I think is my forwards, ie watts & matera in the starting 22, but hopefully my bench can cover any games they may not play.

What you guys think?
Any glaring problems?

I’d say not quite yet. He is going to be tagged every week, and wont have the support he has had in the last few years. is price will go down, and I reckon he’s a perfect upgrade option after round 9, which is his last bye.

I am seriously considering hurely this year too (think i saw motts say the same thing somewhere as well). Another third year player with huge potential. Just depends where hird plays him. If thats up forward he may struggle with a lack quality player to feed it to him. However if he goes back then u’d expect him to get a fair bit of it.

As much as I hate to say it being a collingwood supporter, but choose rioli over didak. Rioli has so much more upside and is expected to move into the hawks midfield according to Lance Franklin. Didak has been on a modified program all summer because of his torn pectoral muscle and did not play in the nab cup games whereas cyril starred in his.

4 D/M in the Def but none in the mids;
6 F/M in the Fwds but only 1 in the mids.
Other than that all the right names are there other than Scully who’s your obvious unique. be careful there with the GWS pressure and getting the main tag this year – could be heading for the notorious second year blues.

Sandi/Cox is probably the best ruck combo IMO for points scoring, but because of Sandis premium pricetag, I think that Cox/Jolly is better value.

Might be worth using some of the moeny on either Dangerfield, LaCras ir Jurrah. Forward line could probably use another premium.

J W February 16, 2011 at 8:00 pm

Have heard good things about Broughton – so a really good suggestion there. And Dangerfield will be in the team for his potential (don’t quote me on this if he does end up spudding it), LeCras is a consistent strong mark, so happy with his 400k pricetag, but yes, Jurrah could also be upgraded. But if I was going to upgrade to another premium who would it be?

Buddy and Rioli in the same forward line is counterproductive, Brown, injuries, yuck. Chappy, ridiculously priced, Nick Rie, solid, Jack Rie, possibly.

Thanks for the advice anyway Nick. :)

See this a lot. Some may be deliberately choosing to do this, but in the whole I think it’s a waste. Goddard, Deledio and Gibbs are all DPP (back/mid). Move one of these to the mids and allow yourself some flexibility throughout the season.

A few question marks over Gilbee and Shaw, both struggled for consistancy last year. I think it’s a bog risk having Harvey, Pav and ROK all in the forward line. They’re all getting on in age and may not be able to give huge scores every week. Maybe limit to 1, 2 max.

About 9-11 100+ players.

Deledio is another good DPP that could go into your midfield. Probably have to leave Boyd or Bartell out though….

I cannot trust Higgins. He needs a ripper of a pre-season to come back into consideration. At the moment I’d rate Dangerfield a better option.

Solid team all over there. 11-12 100+ players. Only question would be on Harvey (too old?) and having both Thomas and Swallow in the midfield. I know Swallow has averaged 100+ for the last 2 seasons, but I think has the ability to drop below that for periods. Thomas is likely to be over 100+ this year. Personally, I think you just want to limit the risk to one of these and throw in a premium. Maybe use your 155k to upgrade Thomas to Selwood?

A few questions:

1) DRUMMOND -v- BOCK
*I realise Drummond isn’t guarenteed for round one, but if he is picked I’m not sure who I will go with. Both have the ability, will either of them (or both of them) get it back?

2) DANGERFIELD -v- PETTERD
*I had a pretty good feeling about Petterd this year but after Dangerfield’s games last week I’m leaning towards him.

3) Daniel KERR??
* I, like most returning Supercoachers, have been burnt by him before but he is damn cheap and there has to be a reasonable chance that he will come out and score at least 80-90 per game. That would make him about as good as a few of the rookies.

Thanks all.

Last time I heard Drummond was out for 6-8 weeks – Plus, the ball will spend most of its time down Gold Coasts defensive half, so surely someone with as much class as Bock will get alot of touches.

Dangerfield for sure on the next one. Pettards hammy causing him issues and, of course, Dangerfields super NAB cup preformance so far.

I’ve had Kerr in and out of my team so many times, I just don’t know anymore.
Right now, I’ve got Houli in instead.
Hope this helps!

Personally, not happy with either Drummond or Bock, despite both being good scorers in the past. I spent a bit more coin and went with Grimes.

Dangermouse has probably got the edge

Kerr might make some coin, but would it be more than a rookie, or Krak? Too much risk with Kerr.

Shanos, not sure this team is going to cut it. I can only see 5-7 100+ players week in week out. Too many middle of the road players. As you said, it has potential… but potential and guaranteed scoring machines are miles apart. You want at least 11 premiums.

Your rucks look very weak, need to get either Sandi or Cox in there.

Overall, too many risky players. better off limiting it to about 3/4 players. That means guys like Waite, Brennan, Menzal, Petrie, Gamble need to go. Choose 1 here that you are super confidant in, and ditch the rest. Put 1 rookie on the field, upgrade to a premium, Chappy or Dids if he’s fit.

This is about the only team I’ve seen without Otten. It’s ok to be different and have unique picks, but you also don’t want to miss the boat. Last year, just about everyone had Connors and Hodge and made lots of coin. If you don’t have them, then you could be starting behind the 8-ball. In effect, if you don’t have him, you’re betting that he won’t be better than his starting price, and/ or that you can choose someone who goes better. Less rick in selecting him.

Hope this helps.

An interesting list. Lots of unique choices. Waters, King and Tarrant could be a lot of risk. All have possible upside, but maybe get rid of Taz, bring in a rookie and upgrade waters to enright.

Personally, I prefer more premiums/ rookie model as to a lot of mid-tier.

You must be a Crows fan, having 6 players from the same team is going to cruse you a lot of trouble during their byes rounds. I also think you don’t need that many DPP’s and you don’t have enough keepers/guns to start off with.
My advice is to start all over again, put you’re guns in first then the guys you’ll think are going to have a breakout year and then the rookies that you think have a standout year. Once you’ve done that mix and match players who have the DPP option.
My theory on having the DPP option in each position is.
Backs — 2 D/F, 1 Gun 1 Rookie and 3 D/M 2 Guns and 1 Rookie
Mids — 2 M/D, 1 Gun 1 Rookie and 2/3 M/F, 1/2 Guns and 1 Rookie
Rucks — 1 R/F, either a gun or a rookie
Fwds — 2 F/D 1 Gun 1 Rookie, 2 F/M 1 Gun 1 Rookie and 1 F/R gun/rookie.
All up that’s around 16 players or half your lineup, hope this helps, best of luck, PA.

Cheers PA, any players in particular you think need replacing and ideas on who to replace? I’m a Saints fan but live in Adelaide & Ottens, Knights etc look good value if they both get to 2009 levels. I’m thinking of replacing Carrazzo, Gilbee, Chris Knights & Hale. Any thoughts on Mitch Wallis of the Dogs & Jack Watts from Dees?

Let’s start with Rucks, keep 2 of K. Tippett, Petrie, J.Tippett or Hale. Place one in your ruck divison and the other in your forward line, you’ll still need another ruckman I suggest a chepie i.e Baily, Z. Smith. Look the rest of your team should be up to you mate, not trying to be smart but I think you should pick the guys in your team not me.
As for Wallis, he’s going to be a gun not sure how much game time he’ll see though, that my concern, most likely he’ll play in the second half of the season.
Watts should play every game this year , barring injury of course and I reckon he’ll avg 75-80 points a game and have a breakout year.

Both in the same price range, and neither going to receive the number 1 tagger (unless Goddard dies).

as for conners watch his pre season at 416k might be a bit rich

Great team for 35 days out from lockout Bueller. Best advice is to chill and not get too stressed about the nab and preseason games. All will fall into place during the last week and your Wife/Children/Teacher/Lover/Friends/Pets/Garden/Personal nooks and crannies/Voices in your head will not think less of you/desert you if you maintain this strategy. The addictive alternative is what most of us have experienced in the past and it can get ugly!
What did you say? Who’s that? God I’m itchy. Where’s my dinner? We’ll go to cricket training in a minute. Jeez they hurt when I walk!

Paul Puopolo – he’s a mature age recruit at pick 66 in last years draft. 23 years old and scored 72 points & 119 points against WC & Freo respectively. Should fill the void left by Campbell Brown.

Hi Guys,

First time to this website. Been chopping and changing for ages. Gone for the all or nothing approach. Bit risky i know. Hopefully it works out to some big scores.

DEF: Goddard, Enright, Grimes, Hurley, Adcock, Ottens, Heppell
(Coad, Duigan, Puopolo)

MID: G Ablett, Swan (C), J Selwood, Gibbs, Anthony, Gaff
(Swallow, Wallis, Callinan)

(Z Smith, Derickx)

FWD: Riewoldt, Franklin, Brown, Petrie, Knights, Krakouer, Mzungu

$10,100 in the bank

Any thoughts would be great :)

just a quick look but might be worth looking at j.Tippett in the ruck for Derickx to allow for Petrie to move into the rucks during the bye rounds, not sure about the game time for Wallis. Also with the wealth of rookie talent available in the midfield, I’d suggest downgrading Ablett (who IMO will take a little while to find his feet at gold coast and pick him up after round 9) and use the cash to upgrade Hurley and Adcock, or a forward.

Will be very interested to see how Wallis and Liberatore go on Sunday. They were both potential top 10ers but Doggies got them under the odds due to the father-son rule.

If they’re going to get games they could be good bargain basement rookies both at a titch over 100K

touch light on in forwards. also you have 5 rucks with petrie in the forward. maybe ditch fraser and hale for tippett and a cheapy. that should give you some cash to upgrade say veszpremi. also id avoid having 3 GC players in your mid. maybe ditch bennell for a wallis or atley. then you could upgrade rohan. i like your backline and your first 4 mids

ok so heres my team. got a few cash cows such as higgins who i suspect will get back to around the 100av he once achieved. as well as dangerfield, petrie, anthony and hurley. didn’t go for 1 high scoring mid as i think abltett and swan will drop. thats when i’ll upgrade deledo or boyd. so here it is!
backs: goddard, gibbs, grimes, hurn, hurley, otten, heppell
em: toy, duigin, puopolo
mids: pendlebury, watson, boyd, deledio, anthony, swallow
em mzugnu, d harris, atley
rucks: sandilands, petrie
em: fraser, cordy
forwards: riewoltd, rioli, lecras, higgins, dangerfield, wilson, krak
em: smith, talia, callinan
$51’000 left over for any changes at this stage

hey guys here is my team, any and all advice is welcome.

backs: goddard, gibbs, deledio, broughton, drummond, a otten, heppell
emg: toy or coad, duigan, puopolo

mids: swan, montagna, m murphy, d swallow, gaff, harris
emg mzungu, hibberd, callinan

rucks: sandilands, petrie
emg: baily, derickx

forwards: reiwoldt, didak, harvey, pavlich, higgins, knights, krakouer
emg: prestia or matera, tapscott, I smith

$127,700
Reasons:
murphy had a shit preseason last year and didnt really get going till 3/4 through the season so with a good preseason this year he will fire from the start

im keeping drummond in for now as i hear he is on track for round one if he isnt in the team i will upgrade to someone else

first upgrade will be for chapman into the middle

Not sure about Drummond, a little too injury prone for my liking. Bock could be a better pick up. Around the same price and the ball likely to spend most of its time in GC backline he could rack up a few possies. Able to be a 90-100+ scorer IMO.

Harvey is a renowned high SC scorer but is getting on in age. I reckon he could be on the decline.

You have 7 DPP in your forward line and 4 DPP in your backline, might be better to spread them out over your midfield as well.

But overall a pretty good team. Word from GC is Matera looks like he will be staring.

Whats the go with puopolo? I know very little of this lad and he seems to be in all the backs benches. Is he likely to get into the team most likely to challenge the premiers?

Do u also go by the name of pablo? Refer an above conversation between pab and myself:

Pablo: Can someone tell what’s with puopolo? I know nothing about him but he seems to be on everyones backline bench. Is he likely to break into what I think will be Collingwood’s biggest rival for 2011?

Me: Paul Puopolo – he’s a mature age recruit at pick 66 in last years draft. 23 years old and scored 72 points & 119 points against WC & Freo respectively. Should fill the void left by Campbell Brown.

Hope that helps Paul, or should I say, Pablo!

Duck can you make a poll about Petrie? I’m unsure as to whether he is worth my second ruck spot or my 5th fwd.

Can you ask where people have him? Ruck or fwd, or not at all.

Definately need at least one premium ruckmen. Petrie is good value and should be a good 2nd pick but Nic Nat is a little too inconsistent. Needs someone like Sandi, Cox or Jolly as no.1 ruckman.

Not sure about McPharlin, IMO his best is past him. Greenwood and Stokes are interesting choices, will be interesting to see how they go in the NAB cup. Both are able to play midfield roles.

How much cash do you have left over?

Thats the team with many changes to come. Not sure about Gaff playing on the field as he wasn’t that brilliant last weekend.
Also, still very unsure on Knights, gets injured a fair bit and hasn’t showed an ability to make 100+ scores.

I agree, a pretty good side. I wouldnt go with Bruce, coming into the twilight of his career, better of going with someone younger like Broughton, Duffield or maybe H Shaw. ANd 1 too many young kids start on the fiel in your backline.Top notch ruckline if you can afford it

a rough draft

DEF; B Goddard, C Enright, H Scotland, H Shaw, R Hargrave, A Otten, D Heppell ( P Faulks, P Puopolo, N Duigan )

MID; D Swan, L Hodge, J Watson, B Gibbs, D Wells, D Swallow ( T Mzungu, S Atley, I Callinan )

RUCK; N Natanui, D Petrie ( Z Smith, T Derrickx )

FWD; B Harvey, M Pavlich, C Rioli, A Goodes, S Higgins, C Knights, A Krakour ( B Matera, J Darling, I Smith )

might be a few changes to come, depends on the rookies, Knights and Higgins are a bit of a risk, both injury prone but both capable of consistent seasons with some big scores along the way. I went with wells for my M5, i think it could be a break-out year for him and its good to have some experience in the middle.
any comments or advice more than welcome.

Right now, I have Chapman, Voldt and Goodes.
Chapman IS worth it because of his DPP statues. He’s always had the ability, but his body has never really held up. If he can play 18-22 games this season, he could realisticly win the brownlow.

R2 is weak. Look at McEvoy. Also look at having a F/R DPP such as J. Tippett on your ruck bench to swap with Petrie.
Is Priddis supposed to be a P.O.D? Grab Murphy who is likely to explode this year.
Pay for that by swapping Bruce into Fisher or Hurn. If Gilbert DOES play more as a F this year he might not be as valuable. Maybe turn him into the other aforementioned D that you don’t swap Bruce for, or look at someone like Duffield.
Krakeour is a lot of bench money, Swallow & Harriss have RD1 bye.
Hurley has a bye in the final round which is your league GF. If you swap him with Danger, you might have enough for Sidebottom or J.Blair @ 410k.

Agree with you on your R2 being weak. It is a big gamble that may not pay off. You could probably downgrade Ablett into someone like Hodge and turn 1 of R3 or 4 into Drew Petrie as your R2. That gives you Smith + 1 to mature on your bench. Hodge will score not much less than Ablett, isn’t injured and doesn’t leave you having to replace 2 of your mids in R1 when GC have the bye.
Who is ‘Davis’ that you have on your mids bench? Not Leon I hope?

Listen to me very carefully, mr name, if you take one piece of advice from this site let it be this: do not pick Daniel Kerr in your team this year.

Sandilands, jolly (J tippet, M bailey)

let me know what you think, and yes i know that my forwards are still risky and weak but looking to make up for it with a strong backline and midfield. Will upgrade when some decent/consistent forwards show themselves this season.

Would appreciate some feedback on my team. Espesh back line. Not sure how many of my defenders will be playing consistently from R1.

BACK: B. Gibbs, B. Deledio, S. Fisher, S. Hurn, R. Murphy, A. Otten, P. Puopolo, (N. Duigan, R.Tarrant, J.Post)

MID: B.Goddard, M.Murphy, L.Anthony, P. Dangerfield, J. Sherman, D. Swallow, (T.Mzungu, T. Liberatore, K. Stevens)

RUCK: A. Sandilands, M. Leuenberger, (T.Vickery, J. Tippett)

FORWARD: P. Chapman, J. Riewoldt, K. Tippett, G. Rohan, T. Banfield, D. Petrie, J. Watts, (D.Hale, R. Gamble, D. Archer)

Does anyone know what chances David Hale has of getting a game at Hawthorn? I think he would compliment their forward line well, but I’m not a selector.

Very good team, I think your rucks may let you down though you need Cox or Sandilands or both also Harris from the GC I think is a must have.
You have No N. Riewoldt, Chapman, S.Johnson or Franklin big call not having any of them.

I think 7/10

Good questions Sammy boy. I’d go with this:
Pendles
Broughton. Enright will fall this year I feel.
Everitt. Although I am a little biast… A huge Swans fan!
To be honest, I wouldn’t have either of these, but, if you have to, Sylvia because he won’t get suspended…
Dunno about this… Ballantyne?
Probably Liam Anthony.

Hope i could help mate.

So far i have:

J Selwood – S Pendlebury – J Bartel – S Bergoyne – D Swollow

B Dalziell V’s B Vince?????

I have Dazliell atm i think he is very under valued and set for a huge year if he can play the whole season. However i think Adelaide will make the 8 and Vince will have more opportunities to carve it up.

i just came up with a wicked team better than the one just posted with a possible 16 keepers at the max if injuries dont hit. A forwad line that possibly doesnt need to be touched, a backine that could need only 2 to more guns in it to be solid and the midfield will need 4 guns to complete it.

The logical option is to wait til the R1 teams come out and find a replacement for Campbell, a chepie i.e Bailey, Moran, Redden, Derickx or a Brissy ruck.

Money remaining: $11,800

Massive question marks as to what to do with the midfield (Priddis). Would have Pendles in there instead, but then when Collingwood have a bye I get a munted midfield.

Anybody got any advice?

my team is looking pretty close to how i want it in rd 1 now:

Goddard, Grimes, Connors, Gibbs, Otten, Puopolo, Lower

Bench: Tape, N Krakouer, Batchelor (rich)

Swan, Cross, Kennedy, Dangerfield, Duncan, Heppell

Bench: Swallow, Harri. M Wallis (maybe)

Sandlilands, Cox

Bench: Derickx, Zac Smith

N Riewoldt, Franklin, Goodes, S Johnson, Higgins, Knights, Richardson

Bench: Prestia, Mzungu, Michie

I have 16 players who i could possibly keep throughout the year,My Keepers are:

Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Connors, Swan, Cross, Sandlilands, Cox, N Riewoldt, Franklin, Goodes, Johnson, Higgins, Dangerfield

and some potential keepers meaning they could score enough pts per a week for me to consider them keepers:

A Otten
N Krakouer
J Kennedy (Syd)
M Duncan
C Knights

other players who will improve a lot in the team:
Heppell, Puopolo, D Swallow, Harris, Mzgunzu, Richardson,

Connors, Higgins and Dangerfield are not keepers yet, Higs and Rod have a lot of upside but I think Sarah is currently overvalued (IMO you can get a better player at the same value).

Greenwood is injured and Shoey is a SC dud. Mids are fine however the Fwds need alot of work unless you have the injury gods on your side.

Pretty solid mate but i reckon the midfield is a little weak. And you are a brave man having Kepler Bradley in the no.1 ruck spot! :)

But FWD and BACK lines are solid. But you may have to downgrade one to get another premium in the middle i reckon…

Pretty strong team that needs a little tweaking.
You haven’t mentioned how much money you have in reserve.
Astbury may not be a high scorer. I hear that he is going to be used in lock down roles. Gamble is too much money on the bench imo. Play him in Astbury’s spot and put Richardson on your bench.
Get rid of Bradley and bring in Sandi.
Swap Gibbs with Laidler, & Schneider with Heppell for D/M DPP.
Use Laidler’s 280k to ugrade Danger into Boyd and use Schneider cah to grab Duigan for your last D spot. (Presuming that you have 10 k in reserve.) Otherwise get Bartel instead of Boyd.

with expectation to:

Petterd – injured
Majak Daw – chuck him out the door
Charman – injured
Houlihan – wil struggle to get regular games
Buckley, Tahlia will lack game this season
Drummond – still injured for at least a fortnight
Enright – not getting any better

the rest of the team is strong

Cam, I’ve gone Penders and will be looking to bring in Swan after the 2nd bye. The extra 80k is well spent bolstering other areas of my team that hopefully will serve me well throughout the year.
Penders should take the next step and to me is the choice to make.

chapman not sure about, he is old has trouble with hamstrings and his groins and is not garunteed to play rd 1 because of these problems has had a lack of pre-season game time likely to drop in price.

Everyone keeps saying “oh Bartel will improve this year”, im a geelong supporter hence my team title “Catblitz” and don’t think he will improve for me he seems to be at his level right now which is 500k so if you want to choose him be aware that he probably will give you his ave and thats about it.

Buckley from collingwood only a good choice if he plays 10+ games at the start of the season. this pick is risky but might pull off.

why Polec when you can choose harris for 30k less and you will get the same points per a week and maybe even more Harris 125.7k will play every game if fit.

Petrie suspended round 1, round 3 kangaroos have a bye so you have to wait til round 5 or 6 for his price to move. He also injury prone, suspension prone and still hasn’t found his feet since returning from injury. Go with Fraser or Warnock instead both are number 1 ruckman for their clubs.

Everything else looks pretty good keep at it.

Sandlilands, Cox

Not sure whether or not to choose Goodes

what do people think about playing Duncan, Knights, Krakouer, Mzgunu in forward line with higgins in the midfield rotation so when GC don’t have a bye the forward line is Franklin.Goodes, Johnson, Higgins, Duncan, Knights, Krakouer

obviously if i wanted to i could sell Duncan and Knights and buy a superstar and rookie

Is my midfield Swan, Pendlebury, Montagna, Gibbs, Kennedy and swallow when GC don’t have a bye a good midfield?

not sure on Kennedy as yet either

Thanks for that. I’m sticking with goodes and sandi. Sandi should stay at roughly the same average he had last year and Goodes is underpriced and has had a good preseason. He will also kick goals.
My advice for your team would firstly be to take out Mzungu as he is injured as of today, secondly i would only choose pendles or swan.
Franklin does seem to go missing i had him last year and he was suspended for about half the time. Get Riewoldt.
You have stacked your midfield way to much. Higgins is way to injury prone, start swallow and downgrade higgins to reece conca or polec.
IMO 4 premi 2 rookie midfields work well.

SAM: R. Clarke- J. Blake for saints is a veteran but far more consistant. He is another 18k though and you only have 2.9k…
how about Rick Ladson- Hawthorn ? he’s only going to cost you 1200 more? (also a dual position player?)
leaving you 1700 in kitty…. then maybe

opt 1. Higgins- WB out (379, 200) for Richard Tambling- Adel (294,900)
= 1700 + (379, 200 – 294, 900= 84, 300) gives you 86k to play with

Or if you’re after a fwd type like Higgins maybe
Opt 2. Higgins WB out (379, 200) for Gary Rohan (291, 400)
= 1700 + (379, 200- 291, 400= 87, 800) gives you 89.5k to play with

Was going to suggest Morabito but he’s injured of course.

With either 86k or 89.5 k to play with you COULD upgrade Burgoyne to Hodge in your midfield… much better!
(Burgoyne 484, 300 – Hodge 566, 800= would cost you 82.5k)

Food for thought.

You could go one of two ways, straight swap for a Deledio and fill your midfield gap in or get something cheaper and upgrade ruck. Same could be said for Boomer up forward, i’d opt for Pavlich there.

Nick Riewoldt is an absolute gun, but judging by his preseason, his performances have been really bad. His a premium that’s around $530k, but 50-100 (NAB Cup form) is just not good enough. Average scores just arn’t going to cut it from a premium. On top of that, his preseason has had lots of controversy. What do you guys think, Nick or no Nick?

Do you really think a captain who has narrowly missed out on the last two flags really cares about his pre-season form. He’d just have been running around trying to get a little touch into his game and some extra fitness. He’ll be cherry ripe come round 1. KRAZY with a capital K if you miss the boat with Roo!!!

Matt, Gibbs will be missing in week 3 of SC finals, maybe swap Deledio to the Mids for him, Lake has been injured all preseason and may not start Rd.1, maybe Grimes instead? Leaves you needing 1 more backman, maybe Everitt or Hurn? Rest looks pretty good to me anyway.

Anyone considering L Anthony from the roos for me he is in a 3 way battle with Kennedy and Foley for the M5 position

if you ask me you are nuts if you dont have S Johnson in your team he is up for a big season possibly will be the Cats best player this year.

I have the feeling that there are games he will go missing, or punch someone in the face (and get an injured hand).

By the way have you thought about Duncan?

CB
Have you ever seen the movie “Groundhog Day?”
I think Stevie J could take over from Bill Murray and star in the spoof titled “Groundhog Season!”
Every year he’s “up for a big season” and “playing more through the midfield’ etc. Fact is he’s played only one full season in nine with the next best missing three games last year whilst only once averaging 90+. At 28yo this year its a big call to declaring him a “must!”

Is this midfield worth the risk?

Swan, Montagna, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Foley, Anthony

Bench: Harris, Hibberd, I Smith

My forward line is:

Franklin, Goodes, Johnson, Higgins, Knights, Krakouer, Richardson

Bench: Darling, Gamble, Prestia

Ruck: Sandlilands, Cox

Bench: Zac Smith, Derickx

Def: Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Connors, Otten, Heppell, Duigan

Bench: Puopolo, Tape, Lower

Is this a good team? can i afford to play kennedy, foley and L anthony in the midfield they will give me at least the average i paid for them but could give me a fair bit more. Kennedy Ave of 81 could could score a consistent 90+ pts a week, Foley Ave of 75 but could ave 90+, Anthony Ave of 75 but could Ave 90+ if 2 of the three players can ave 90 my midfield will score big points + i can easily upgraded these players for superstars very quickly.

Swan 130×2=260 Montagna 115, Pendlebury 110, Kennedy 90, Foley/Anthony 90 Foley/Anthony 75 a total of 740pts in the midfield

I personally think that you should look at replacing one of them with a D. Swallow or a Bennell basically a good rookie and then use the cash to inject a bit more quality/balance into the defence starting line.
I also wouldn’t be focusing on upgrading these guys to quickly if they are ave 90 then stick fat with them, focus on upgrading the rookies during the year then maybe these guys later on.
Overall solid looking team.

Generally, this is a very good team with some nice unique picks.
Anthony, Higgins & Knights represent risk, but, if you are happy to accept that and it works, you’ll be in a strong position.
Not sure about Foley though. How will he score in a developing and improving Tiger midfield. If you can afford it, take a look at Travis Boak.
I’m puzzled that you have Richardson on-field and Gamble on your bench.

Very interesting team mate. Would personally keep goddard. See you are going for a light midfield with alot of rookies.

Quite weak rucks…

Gun FWD line. Chapman is injured though at the moment. So maybe swap him out??

Im going with J Kennedy and passing on the Anthony and foley idea. Planning on playing

Swan, Montagna, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Heppell, Krakouer

Bench: Swallow, Harris, I Smith

Forward line:

Franklin, Goodes, Johnson, Higgns, Dangerfield, Duncan, Knights

Bench: Ricardson, Darling, Prestia

Ruck: Cox, ?? not sure about sandlilands freo look to be a team who will struggle early which could mean Sandlilands may drop his price

Freo struggling early might mean Sandi gets more touches not less, but I hear ya, toying with Jamar as a Rnd1 ruck with fingers crossed on a Sandi price drop by Rnd3… not sure.

Dempster and Kerr represent the biggest risks in that side, otherwise pretty interesting.
