Teams are being rated thick and fast……we simply need a new thread ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  It’s great to see Coaches not only entering their own teams but also giving their two cents worth to their fellow Coaches.ย  Only three weeks to go…….how does your team look?

  1. DEF- Doch, Laird, Touhy, Hampton, Otten, EVW ( Hibberd, Stewart )

Mid- Danger, Pendles, JPK, Priddis, O’meara, McCluggage, Brofie ( SPP, Mountford, Jarman )

    Ruck- Gawn, Grundy

FWD- Dahlhaus, Macrae, Heeney, Hoskin-elliott, Bowes, Begely ( Butler, Eddy )

Rookies obviously subject to change, any discussion would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Whilst it looks likely that Tuohy has been handed Enright’s role as the general and go to man out of defence it does not necessarily correlate to a spike in points and 95+ averages. His highest career avg is 81.5 so to justify his selection he would need to provide a career best year bettering his avg by 15 points. Whilst it could be attainable, the likely scenario is that he will need to be traded as he will not be able to match the likes of Docherty, Simpson, Shaw, Montagna, Laird, Burgoyne, Rance, Johannisen, Boyd, Vince and so on. Therefore the remaining funds could be used to bring in one of Montagna, Burgoyne, etc.

      1. I think he is a nice option, had him in my team before his JLT game.

        2013, 22 games avg 65
        2014, 22 games avg 61
        2015, 22 games avg 79
        2016 22 games avg 81

Look at that durability! Increasing his average every year (except 13-14) so much to like for mine. May not be in the highest tier defenders scoring 110+ but at 443k I think he’s a bargain, and you won’t get that durability from the majority of the backline options, option to upgrade later once the money has been made.

        1. B Vince missed 21 games in the past 9 seasons
L Montagna missed 13 games in the past 11 seasons
S Burgoyne missed 27 games in the past 11 seasons
K Simpson missed 5 games in the past 11 seasons
H Shaw missed 30 games in the past 10 seasons
A Rance missed 10 games in the past 6 seasons
M Boyd missed 20 games in the past 10 seasons

All are very durable and will easily average higher than Tuohy.

            1. Enright did average 101 last season so there is scope in their game plans for the another 100 average coming from a rebound defender.

Tuohy also appears to fit the build:
              Enright: 187cm, 90kg, 351m gained average
              Tuohy: 187cm, 91kg, 382m gained average

Howe showed last season it is possible as he increasd his average of 75 at Melb in 2015 to 92 at Coll.

100 might be pushing it but there is certainly room for him to push his average from 82 to 95.

If he looks good in his last 2 JLT games, I’m willing to give him a shot.

          1. Touhy scored 90+ 8 times last season, 80+ 4 times, this hsows how he does have some good scoring capability, in the games where he scored fairly bad, simpson and doch often were on par, now he has no-one to contest with. Just my opinion.

      1. I’m not trying to be a smart ass or rude. But it really hurts my brain that people are seriously considering Touhy. Honestly I see zero upside he won’t finished as one of the top 15 defenders. He will be a stop gap in your side. Even when you take a risk in your side it should be calculated. Look at say Murphy, Beams, Swallow or O Meara. Some may start with 2, 1 or 3 of these guys (or none) but the risk you take is obviously injury based but if it comes off these blokes can potentially be keepers in the midfield anywhere from M4-M8. Touhy on the other hand will not be anywhere close, not even a different role. Don’t assume just because Enright is gone that he will slide into his possessions or out put. His name is still Zac Touhy, he still goes missing in games and he is still someone who has never averaged anywhere near 90. It’s a risk and not a very well calculated one. Trust me and thank me later do not pick Zac Touhy. Thurlow even at his awkward price is a better option than him.

        9
        1. Look.. anyone suggesting that Tuohy will push a 100ave is being extremely hopeful, but I have little doubt that he’ll increase his average, probably to around 90SC, so he is under priced imo, 90 as an eventual D6 starting at 443K is not bad business assuming you use that 60K-140K saved somewhere where it’ll score you more points than an extra 10 a week in defence.

Not in my team as only running 2 premo defenders at this stage but he’s on the watchlist.

    1. An option could be to take out McGrath for J Pickett freeing up 90,000 allowing T Liberatore to J Selwood. Grundy to A Sandilands freeing up around 210,000 and 280,000 overall. Petracca to N Riewoldt leaving around 130,000 left allowing Brodie to be taken out for D Swallow.

MID: pendles, Bont, Fyfe, Heppell, beams, omeara, swallow, SPP, (wigg, hibberd, freeman)

    1. Hard to see Greene’s average rising, given AA last year in position and not likely to move to mid (plus addition of Deledio)

Danger will be hard to bring in later.

    Thoughts?

May downgrade Simmo to Silk and use cash to get Heppell up to Congilio

  5. An option could be to downgrade Grundy to Sandilands allowing Heppell to be upgraded to one of Kennedy/Hannebery/Selwood and Adams to be upgraded to H Shaw/S Docherty.

    3

    10
    1. Why get rid of Adams? has potential to be the top defender? injury risk i guess. Docherty is at top price too mmuch money spent on full priced playes if starting with Danger and Gawn too IMO.

    W. Hoskin-Elliott COL $213,300

    A. Black GEE $137,100
    D. Cameron SYD RUC $117,300

A lot of risks – all of which have been calculated. Team will continue to change. Mills and Heeney are breakout potential. Expect at least one to go and will have to make a correctional on the other to a fallen premium.

Beams, Sandilands, Wingard & Roughead are returning premiums. Beams & Sandilands still subject to a fitness test this weekend.

O’Meara and Swallow as stepping stones, I have them >40 points underpriced, and are required on back of lack of midfield rookie options, and don’t want to go deeper than three onfield rookies in backline.

    11

    3
    1. One potential change is Heeney down to Eddy, (still on 2 rookies on field in fwd), and Swallow up to Hanners. Feels a bit more balanced, and drops the mid pricers by 2.

Now have 6: 4 returning premiums (beams, sandilands, wingard, roughead), 1 breakout contender (mills) and 1 stepping stone (o’meara).

      Better?

      12

      0
      1. Heeney to Eddy sounds great but maybe take out Beams for Hannebery, keep swallow and the 150,000 can be used to upgrade Mills to K Simpson.

        8

        0
        1. Beams is possible keeper – Swallow is not. Decided to go with O’Meara up to Hanners, saved some money on some other rookies (R3 to Strnadica), and have been able to go Mills to Vince. Very happy now:

Shaw, Adams, Vince, Hampton, Vickers-Willis, Newman; Otten, Stewart

Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Hannebery, Bontempelli, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, Powell-Pepper; Wigg, Hibberd, Maynard

          Goldstein, Sandilands; Strnadica

Dahlhaus, Macrae, Wingard, Roughead, Hoskin-Elliott, Black; Cameron, Eddy

Now only 5 mid pricers, 4 returning premiums and 1 stepping stone (could almost be considered ultra high priced rookie).

Very, very happy with the structure now.

15 keepers, 6 in mids and Fyfe at M5. Only 6 rookies plus swallow to upgrade, plus possibly 1 of 4 returning premiums.

          3

          1. Personal opinion I think Vince and Wingard both look traps but completely understand their selections in your team.

Just keep in mind Hoskin-Elliott will have to average 80 odd to make you 200k by the byes, not saying he can’t do that & has been in my team at times but its a worry.

            Other wise loving your team.

  7. nervously, ‘cos I assume this is pretty much a ‘cookie-cutter’ side, I present to you the following:

Docherty, Laird, Burgoyne, McGrath, Logue, Vickers-Willis
    (Newman, Ryan)

Danger, Pendles, Hanners, Fyfe, Heppel, Swallow, Powell-Pepper, Freeman
    (Galluci, Bolton, Jarman)

    Gawn, Grundy (Strndajktzdkdrki)

Kennedy, Dahlhaus, Caddy, Taranto, McCluggage, Bowes
    (Pickett, Eddy)

Not much left in the bank, but considering dumping McGrath for Hampton to free up $50k. Not 100% on Swallow just yet either.

    1. Downgrade McGrath/Logue/Taranto and McCluggage to other rookies. Will allow you to upgrade Heppell to Jelwood.

My only worry is Sandilands. Is there somewhere I should downgrade to a better option and upgrade Sandi to Grundy?

    1

    0
    1. I don’t mind the Sandi pick although you haven’t given yourself any cover if he gets injured or rested.
The only way I can see you upgrading to Grundy without changing your structure which seems quite solid is to downgrade Hoskin-Elliot and one of your more expensive rookies.

      1

      0
  14. Messing around with my structure again:

    DEF: K. Simpson, H. Shaw, R. Laird, C. Hampton, E. Vickers-Willis, L. Ryan (T. Stewart, J. Smith)

    MID: P. Dangerfield, S. Pendlebury, D. Hannebery, J. Selwood, A. Treloar, N. Fyfe, H. McCluggage, S. Powell-Pepper (J. Atley, S. Bolton, C. Maynard)

    RUCK: M. Gawn, P. Ryder (L. Strnadica)

    FWD: L. Dahlhaus, C. Wingard, I. Heeney, B. Ainsworth, J. Bowes, B. Eddy (B. Jarman, T. Smith)

There’s no clear “set and forget” ruck this year for me apart from Gawn, so the plan is to get Ryder in as a mid-pricer who can make a bit of cash so I can trade up to whoever emerges as ruck 2 this year when they’re at a lower price.

As always, any and all advice/criticism is welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Can’t really fault much there. The only worry I would have is Ryder. I’m really worried about his output even at a slightly discounted price. I know it’s a risk but if Sandi plays round one you have to pick him I think. Being $100k odd cheaper than Ryder as well I don’t think it’s that big a risk. Otherwise the team is solid. I’m not totally sold on Wingard but could be a big pay off. I’m now worried about Hugh in my side. I think he is struggling with the intensity and the bigger bodies. He will be a star but I don’t see him exploding out of the blocks and at the inflated rookie price I think there are better cheaper options have you considered Wigg from Adelaide.

  15. Yet another structure change… Just $700 remaining (HoskEll will most likely be downgraded).

DEF: Simmo, Laird, Tuohy, Hampton, Vickers-Willis, Newman (Ryan, Stewart)

MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Jelwood, Treloar, Fyfe, Swallow, SPP (Wigg, Pickett, Hibberd)

    RUC: Gawn, Sandi (Preuss)

FWD: NRoo, Dahl, Roughy, Hoskin-Elliott, Bowes, Black (Cameron, Eddy)

    1

    0
    1. This is my other current structure:
      ($6,900 remaining)

DEF: Laird, Tuohy, Keefe, Hampton, Vickers-Willis, Newman (Ryan, Stewart)

MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Jelwood, Treloar, Fyfe, O’Meara, Swallow (SPP, Wigg, Hibberd)

      RUC: Gawn, Sandi (Preuss)

FWD: NRoo, Dahl, Wingard, Roughy, Bowes, Black (Strndica, Eddy)

Essentially dropping a premium (Simpson) and a rookie to pick up two mid pricers (O’Meara and Wingard).

      0

      6
      1. With so much uncertainty in the forward line this year. No standouts like last year – Merrett/ Martin/ Montagna etc being Mid/Fwd options. I think your to top heavy there. I’d put some more cash into your backline. Defiantly would not be going with Thouy I’ve written above as to why. Keefe would also be on the chopping block. I think Roo will probably be a top 6 forward not writing him off but I think there is a great possibility he will drop $50K. His price is to high for me to consider starting with him even in a wingman role.

        2

        0
  16. I’ve been letting my squad stew for awhile, but with injuries and such, I decided it was time to get it up to speed.

With $ 9,400 in the bank, the team stands as follows:

    Defenders:

Shaw, Laird, McDonald, Hampton, Hibberd, Vickers-Willis, (Ryan, Stewart)

    Midfielders:

Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Selwood, Treloar, Bontempelli, Fyfe, Beams, Bowes, (Powell-Pepper, Wigg, Pickett)

    Rucks:

    Grundy, Sandilands, (Strnadica)

    Forwards:

Dahlhaus, Macrae, Acres, McCluggage, Black, Cameron, (Smith, Eddy)

    1

    7
    1. I’d reconsider Mc Donald and Acres at first look. Otherwise solid. Without prices in my head Acres for a Roughead and McDonald needs to be upgraded for sure. To skinny in the backline for mine.

Also something to consider is the fact Adelaide and North play on Sunday first round. I wouldn’t want to be sweating on team selection with 4 potential borderline rookies in your backline.

      6

  17. Am I the only one going without Fyfe? I’m well aware he could potentially have a great season and at his best probably $40k underpriced. But have we ever seen someone come back from a broken leg and set the world on fire the next season and play every game?? I’m taking the risk of going Neale instead. I understand he has had post season clean up surgery but nothing major like Fyfe. I also think with his popularity soaring that of it does go pear shaped for him that you out yourself ahead of the pack going without him. Am I crazy or is this a legitimate tactic? Also anyone else worries about Mc Cluggage’s inflated price vs potential output?? I’ve seen him in a lot of sides he is a local boy from my home town no doubt could be a star and his job security is solid but it might take him a while to get use to playing with the big boys

    9

    1
    1. Fyfe is currently most popular pick, just plenty of upside if he keeps fit. Nice job rating the teams here, Trav. Great in-depth analysis!

      4

      0
    2. Yes, you probably are the only one going without Fyfe. Up and running I think he is the best player in the comp. He is an absolute standout and closer to $140k under priced than $40k. Michael Barlow successfully returned from a similar broken leg and although it takes a little time, Barlow is not even half the player Fyfe is. The risk is not starting him!

      1

      1
      1. Barlow took a couple of years after the broken leg. Not the year after and he has struggled with injuries relating to it since. I don’t care if I’m part of a minority. I was part of a minority last year when I went without him and it worked a lot of people burnt two trades on him. But also you have to upgrade to someone so I figure why not leave out one player you know you want in your side to upgrade to. Rather than trying to pick 5-6 midfield keepers straight up.

        0

        0
        1. You might be right, Trav. Probably the best comparable player would be Michael Voss who broke his leg in 1998.

For the 11 games that he played, he averaged 21.7 disposals a game.
The next year, he returned but only averaged 18.7 disposals, but did play 21 games and scored 23 goals.
In 2000, he averaged 23.9 disposals, but only kicked 14 goals.

So you’re correct in that his disposals dropped by 3 per game from the previous year and increased significantly the year after his return year. However, he may have played more as a forward that year.

So I decided to look up Barlow as well and was surprised to see that he averaged 24 disposals in the year he broke his leg, 2011. Continued to average 24 in his return year and played 24 games and went up to 26.5 disposals the year after.

So that’s made it all as clear as mud!

          2

          0
          1. Other than the year he broke his leg. Barlow Supercoach average the year after his broken leg was the lowest of his career

  18. Thoughts? Should I go deeper in the mids? And thoughts on Goldy at the moment?

Backs: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Scharenberg, Hampton, Vickers-Willis (Ryan, Stewart)

    1. Very solid line up mate. Ones I would consider at changing would be Hoskin-Elliot. Only a personal opinion but I think if Collingwood is even marginally up and running I don’t see where he slots in for 22 games. Also hasn’t showed consistent scoring potential ever. For me he is a burst player. He will have spots in matches that will attract people to pick him but his light frame worries me he gets pushed around quite easy. It’s not good enough to just be quick anymore. Also I tend to believe pending round one selection I think it’s less of a risk to take Sandi in the rucks at $280k cheaper than taking Goldy with an a dodgy pre season. I think Goldy will probably end up being the M2 in most sides but I think of all years you can hold off with him initially.

    2. I’m all for Goldstein to take back, or coming bloody close to, his crown. He was more banged up last year. It also looked like he was enjoying running around in the JLT.

Regarding the mids, I feel you’re one or two mids short. A lot of high priced rookies that could probably be cut back to bring in a premo or two.

    1. I think you’ve picked multiple options with great upside but with that comes great risk. I think it’s silly to go completely against convention. Blokes like Pendlebury and Danger are just ultra consistent and if you don’t start with them your going to be scrambling your first rookie upgrades to get them with no gurantee you can afford them. Shuey, Shiel, Viney, Caddy, Petracca and Heeney all have great upside and potential to up there averages by more than 10 points. I had Shiel last year he was ultra consistent. Relied on him for 95+ every week, but his ceiling is quite low he doesn’t pump out the 120+ scores you need from a premium midfielder. Of these 6 I’d look closely at upgrading Shiel, Petracca and possibly Shuey. Many think because of the addditon of Mitchell to West Coasts midfield that this will help free Shuey. But I still tend to think that opposition will still tag Shuey over a contested clearance player such as Priddis or Mitchell. Mitchell averages 119 at Sub in his 11 games. Wide open spaces suit his game and with a point to prove is very Supercoach relevant as well as being a great POD. Good luck mate.

    1. Starting with Florent and Taranto in the forward line is a bit of a risk. Taranto has to break into a side that has impressive depth and Florent doesn’t look like he will play until the mid season due to guys like Dean Towers and Dan Robinson knocking on the door for selection. Id suggest Hoskin Elliot and, or Aaron Black instead.

    1. I think Rampe is a good player, but his average is unlikely to change too much. He might have a great game here and there, but also has to lockdown on other occasions.
JJ has the potential, but you’d need to be pretty confident.
Shuey is a different call, but I’d drop Mcbackpack.
Heeney is another that is a big call. He may eventually be a premo, but truth be told, most players just gradually rise. He’s also at a price where it’s difficult to get rid of him if he doesn’t go well.

    1. I don’t mind Shuey as a POD. Your FWD line worries me mate. IMO Caddy, Heeney and Petracca at F1-3 are speculative pics and could be pretty dangerous. Maybe look for a safe bet such as a Dahl, McRae or Gunston.

Lack of locked in rookies is creating a few issues leaving me to pick a few more midpricers than usual.
My philosophy for backs /forwards is to select players who may play predominantly mid field.
Rucks are set and forget and you can’t go wrong with Gawn & Goldy.
Midfield is where the points are so taking a risk with a few fallen premiums.
In fact to some extent I feel I am standing at the top of a cliff staring into the bottomless abyss of oblivion by picking so many returning stars.
I would have liked to get Barlow or Hanley in but can’t squeeze them in and bye doesn’t help.

I haven’t had Beams until now. Is he a good chance to be a top 10 mid this year? If so I’ll hopefully only need 8 on field upgrades. Or should I go back to swallow, however, I don’t know where the extra $150k would come in helpful? If I get 10+ TU’s I’ll keep Beams.

T.Mitchell seems to be a POD but I can’t help feel he’s going to have a big year, especially with contested possessions.

    1. Reckon you could comfortably downgrade Heeney in the forward line to bring Mills into the backline if you want to balance things a bit better. The other one I’d consider is downgrading Swallow to upgrade either Beams to a genuine, reliable premium player, or if you want to take a chance, O’Meara to Josh Kelly.

      1

      1
    2. I cant figure out how you have “risk spread across all lines”? Am I missing something? I look in your DEF: 3x Crows – Putting most of your Eggs in one basket there. Big Issue come Bye Week, especially if your hand is forced to trade in DEF in weeks prior (EG Zac Guthrie is a Rookie so is Joel Smith. So they’ll be gone after 6 Games IF they play, there is two trades gone). Andy Otten as we all well know is not a guarantee either. Will always play well in the Pre-Season but then see limited time in the Season proper. Arrival of Curtly Hampton will mean Otten will probably be in the same boat this year, and if so, that could mean 3x trades down the shitter just to ensure you have Cheap Defenders, actually playing let alone scoring.

Your Midfield on the other hand, is off its tits.

So I dont see how its spread evenly.

Having said that, I like the Mid Heavy approach. They are the Point Getters. 15 or 18 of the top 20 scorers last year were Mids. So I think if you are staying with that, you need to go back to the drawing board in DEF.

Getting less confident with rookies as JLT continues so I’ve had to drop the MID premiums down to bolster DEF/FWD and bring in some more expensive rookies. Far from the Fyfe @ M6 I was running a week ago but hopefully Beams/O’Meara can pick up most of the slack to ensure JS across other lines.

  46. OK, fine, I’ll bloody well slot you in Sandi. Prick. Don’t make me regret this…

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Mills, Hampton, Vickers, Newman (Stewart, Guthrie)
MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Selwood, Treloar, Rocky, Fyfe, SPP (Wigg, Barrett, Hibberd)
    RUC: Gawn, Sandi (Strnadica)
FWD: Dahl, Roughead, Nankervis, Bowes, Black, Pickett (Miles, Eddy)

Only need one more mid, probably Hanners or GAJ.

Sandi hopefully a straight swap for Goldy or Grundy if he can get a run of games early on, have Nankervis looking serviceable as coverage if required, and could end up being a reasonable F6 or F7 option at year’s end. Who knows…Sandi could end up playing 18-20 games this year and smashing out a 110+ average.

Defenders tend to drop in price throughout the year, so I’ll grab them as they bottom out.

Forward line is anybody’s guess this season, so I’ll start with close to a blank canvas.

  47. Defenders: Shaw, Adams, Vince, Tuohy, Hampton, Vickers-Willis (Ryan, Stewart)

Midfielders: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Fyfe, Steven, Beams, O’meara, Bowes, Powell-Pepper (Barrett, Miles, Hibberd)

    Rucks: Gawn, Nankervis (Strnadica)

Fowards: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Caddy, Roughead, Black, Eddy (Pickett, Smith)

Will still want goldy come crunch time so if Nankervis becomes a 90+ player he will slide straight into F6 of my final squad

    P.S thoughts on Gunston?

    1

    1
    1. Like Gunston, but not sure he’s a starting option. Tends to throw in some pretty low scores along the journey (50-70pts) which should see his price take a dive at some point.

Reckon Macrae and Caddy, both of whom you have, are better options around that price point.

  48. Well I would be very interested to get some feedback from my team.

The forward line for me was so surprising and at first glance it appears I might be going against logic, even the back line throw in a few surprises.

There is some strategy behind the selection.

Anyway have a look and see what you think.

Backs: Doherty, Boyd, Howe, Hampton, Stewart, Guthrie (Ryan, Ed Vickers-Willis)

Mids: Danger, Pendles, Hannebery, Treloar, Cripps, O’Meara, Powell Pepper, Pickett (Hibberd, Freeman, Bolton)

    Rucks: Gawn, Sandi (Cameron)

FWDS: This is where the fun begins. N Riewoldt, JJ Kennedy, T Millar, Roughy, T Boyd, A Black (J Begley, B Eddy).

    2
    1. Some interesting picks. Obviously rookies will change when named so I won’t go into that. JJK for me is too up and down. I’d prefer Heeney as he will rack up the possessions more. I don’t mind the Millar POD or even the Boyd as a ruck link. I’d prefer Nankervis over him though. I personally wouldn’t pick Cripps as he’s had injuries this preseason. Solid effort thought

      3

      1. Thanks Mate yep Nankervis might fit the bill over Boyd so watch this space.

Cripps yes interesting one noticed it was injury interrupted this year, he is the got to man for Carlton, hard one if fully fit he can rack up the points.

JJK was such a hard one you take the good with the bad bit like Buddy. He 3 round averages are pretty good but will have a re think.

Rookies yeah they were just filling the spaces.

        Thanks Mate.

        1. Don’t think it’s that bad a tactic with Roo & JJK to be honest. Both are durable players who should avg 95+ up FWD again this year. JJK scored most aggregate pts of any FWD last year. Why not start with him?
Agree that Nankervis is probably the better Swingman option though……

    1. Priddis & Zorko are some handy PODs (and durable!), not bad. Maybe a bit light on up FWD, but you gotta sacrifice something to get a starting MID like that.

      2

      0
    2. Just looking I think you are one premo short in the back line and a little unpredictable.

Laird, Doherty, Shaw all good. Tick Laird.

Tuohy (Who Knows) pre season never a real good indicator. question Mark

Mills ( Second year ) not that proven. question Mark.

Leaving a little to the unknown it could pay off, but it is also a big risk.

  50. Hawker you have forgotten Cyril Rioli in the forward line. No seriously Dahlhaus is a must in the fwd line rather than JJ Kennedy banking 12k.
Also Nankervis looks a better bet than Boyd for the fwd – ruck swingman , but you have to fork out an extra 75k.

    3

    0
    1. Ha ha Death Adder, This was the hardest part for me CYRIL ahhhhh. First year ever I have not picked CYRIL.

The numbers just do not stack up, was soo hard hitting the SAVE MY TEAM button and no RIOLI.

      2

      0
    2. Death Adder there is also some method in my madness.

Dahlhaus just missed out. Roo and JJ are proven stayers Roo 21 games last year and average over 100. JJ 22 games last year and 97 average.

With Merrett and Zorko out of the mix and would be walk up starts you need to see how good these guys really are.

Dahlhaus 17 games 2016 and an average of 95.

Western Bulldogs also won the Flag last Year so have two games against some of the better teams
Syd: Dalhaus last year did not play 97 2015 and 83 2014.
      Nth: 113 and 84 2016 ok
      WCE: 69 2016
      GWS: 84 2016

So he just got pipped in selection from JJ.

    This is the situation

    Rucks: Gawn Brody (Preuss)

FWD: Dahlhaus, Macrae, Roughy, McCluggage, Ainsworth, Eddy (Begley, Bolton)

    1. Should I place Nankervis in this set up?
    and if so
    2. Should I replace Brody with Nan and upgrade Roughy?
3.Replace Roughy with Nan and upgrade McCluggage?
    4. Dont make any change

  53. First off keep Roughy @F3.
If you want Nankervis have him @F4 not R2 by upgrading excess baggage or Ainsworrh. You would have to find the extra cash so you could downgrade Grundy to Sandilands or find the funds elsewhere.

    3

    0
  54. Ok – let me have it!!

Backs – Shaw, Adams, Laird, Hampton, Newman, EVW (Mi Hibberd, Stewart)

Mids – Danger, JPK, Jelwood, Fyfe, Heppell, Beams, Swallow, SPP (Wigg, Barrett, Miles)

    Ruck – Gawn, Sandi (Strnadica)

Fwd – Dahlhaus, Macrae, Roughhead, Nankervis, Hoskin-Elliot, Black (Pickett, Eddy)

Previously had Grundy, O’meara and Ainsworth – swapped for Sandi, heppell and nankervis (for the sandilands cover and hopefull F6 keeper)
Figure IF sandi stays out there its a guaranteed win, heppell best at his price point (IMO) and no injury risk with Jager, and Nankervis for back up if / when sandi misses.

    1. Turn Heeney (will miss early with Glandular Fever) and Heartbreak into rookies as you suggested. Way to strong on these lines and your midfield has taken a hit. This should allow you to upgrade Maynard to a 115+ midfielder.

Keep an eye out on Grundy, got taken off the training track early today and was iced up on way to get scans.

Must have some balls starting with Higgins, good luck if you go down this path. Could be a genius move!

  57. Playing around with a midfield heavy structure now that Heeney is down with glandular fever:

    DEF: H. Shaw, R. Laird, Z. Williams, C. Hampton, E. Vickers-Willis, L. Ryan (T. Stewart, O. Junker)

    MID: P. Dangerfield, S. Pendlebury, D. Hannebery, A. Treloar, M Bontempelli, P. Cripps, N. Fyfe, S. Powell-Pepper (S. Bolton, T. Bayok, C. Maynard)

    RUCK: M. Gawn, A. Sandilands (L. Strnadica)

    FWD: L. Dahlhaus, C. Wingard, J. Roughead, J. Bowes, J. Pickett, B. Eddy, (D. Cameron, B. Jarman)

    1. Not sold on Wingard. Port has the early bye, and if he comes out averaging 100, he will still be under 500k after the bye. I’d rather pay $50k and bring him in later than waste a trade if he spuds it up.

Not sure Cameron will line up Rd1 so just have a plan to have back up cover for Sandilands if not named.

No real complaints, I love a strong midfield and had Fyfe @ M7 for ages, just can’t work it in anymore.

  58. If anyone is still looking at these, would appreciate any input.

    THE MOOPS

    T. Adams, R. Laird, C. Mills, C. Hampton, E. Vickers-Willis, T. Stewart (Hibberd, Newman)

Dangerfield, Pendlebury, J. Kennedy, Zorko, Fyfe, T. Mitchell, JOM, SPP (Barrett, Wigg, Miles)

    Gawn, Sandi (Preuss)

Dahlhaus, Caddy, Roughhead, Nankervis, Gallucci, Strndica (Black, Eddy).

Understand that I’m a bit light down back and forward, but I feel like the rookie options aren’t great in midfield so better to load up in mids. Strndica in forward line as floating doughnut for forward loophole, and using Preuss for cash generation.

    2

    1. Same structure I’m running with, just a few different choices in players. Your defence is fine given we should have more rookies on this line and your FWD isn’t light at all. 3 keepers with ruck cover.

      Good job.

    1. Scharenberg yet to really fire a shot in the JLT games, Hampton a better option for a few less dollars.

Petrevski-Seton has been offline for a few weeks with a minor calf issue. May play round one anyway, but plan for an alternative.

Freeman in bubble wrap for the Saints, reckon he’ll be eased in via the VFL.

Gunston very up and down in scores, and therefor price. Can probably pick him up substantially cheaper later in the year. Consider Macrae or Caddy as alternatives, or even Roughead who would save you almost $150k.

Like the Priddis selection, and Kennedy as a POD up forward could pay dividends.

    1. I had Wingard in my team for a while but not sold on him. Port has the early bye, and if he comes out averaging 100, he will still be under 500k come Rd10 and you can pick him up then. You are essentially paying $50k he’s going to be a keeper which is worth it for me.

I would consider swapping him for better ruck cover (other than Cameron), and downgrading McGrath (very low cash potential) then this is a team I would be happy to work with come Rd1.

    1. Hibberd injured, Shaw,Doc,Laird tick. Hampton worth a chance.
Like the mid line can accept that, maybe a question on Bont no JLT time.
Rucks tick maybe think about a Nankervis cover in fwd 4.
Wingard risky, feel like Hinkley trying to create something that isn’t there with Winged, injury stuffed him last season and is a better hf than a midfielder, i would suspect he’s going to be very inconsistent but it could be a pod for sure if I’m wrong and Ken is right.
Roo just can’t make it through unscathed again and at such a high output, and i feel that Macrae is a safer punt seen tho you have Wingard and Roughy already. An injury to Roo at 34 is a lot more likely than him averaging over 100 for only the 3rd time in what will be 7 years.
Hope that helps and is seen as good info by most! First time poster!

PS just read your change, go back to JOM, Wing, but offload wingard. Then take Zorko over Bont if you want Zorko

    1. Hi Nick, never fall for the Shaun “you will lose a trade” Higgins.

His good is good but he never stays on the park, unless you are willing to lose a trade forget.

Also not sure J Steele is worth the cash pre season not a good indicator. Roughy is tried and tested would be better off with him in the forward line.

      Other than that looks sound

Thanks mate i think i fixed it up took treloar out put luke d in then took nankirvis into my fwd line higgins out for roughy then stetle out and i put buddy in the fwd line then luk3 d in the mid good move or not

        0

        2
        1. Hmmm mate need to see the team no treloar is a strange move.

There are many that fit the bill I just use the theory Premo or not and just class by position.

E.G. Forwards you would class Dalhaus, Roo, JJK, Buddy, Deledio (although injured) maybe Macrae (I am not sold but my opinion) So as long as you manage two of these in your team it is solid. There is not many this year, but are proven. FWD are the worst to pick as really you would not want Roo, JJK and Buddy in the same team straight up, but based on the overall numbers it would not be a bad option, it just could mean if they do not fire all one week you get a rubbish score, but if they fire all in the same week it could be a huge score.

Same for the Backs: Laird, Shaw, Doherty, Boyd, Rance, Simpson, Montagna, and perhaps Adams, again pretty proven.

As long as you have two of these will also be solid.

It then comes down to luck about picking others and price, whether they have a break out year or not, returning from Injury and so-on.

Mids you want about 5 in your side and Rucks at least one.

You just need to decide who is a premium and who is not.

Then there is GOD status obviously used to be GAZZA, but DANGER has taken over this means an Automatic selection.

Hope this helps, anyway this is my take.

    Gawn, Sandi (Strnadica)

Dahlhaus, Roughead, T.Boyd, Mcluggage, A.Black, J.Pickett (Cameron, Eddy)

Have $132k left over so I can afford a bit of an upgrade or 2, also have some expensive rookies to play with if need be.

    Thoughts if anyone has any.

    0

    1
    1. Downgrade Scharenberg and Thurlow. I would personally be picking up Hampton and Vickers-Willis.

McCluggage will miss Rd1 with an injury (news came out today) so beef him up to a premium of your choice. Not sold on Boyd either so see what you can do with funds left over and it’ll look solid.

    Advice anyone?

    1

    0
    1. Big risk not starting one of Gawn/Goldy but could pay off handsomely. Grundy came off training today injured and has been sent for scans, so keep an eye out on his injury status. I would consider ruck cover for Sandilands other than Cameron, not sure he will line up Rd1 but could be wrong.

McCluggage will miss Rd1 with an injury so I would look at downgrading him. Look to downgrade McGrath as well, looks like Essendon will ease him through the year and he may not earn enough cash, especially playing the position he’s been in over the JLT series.

Those two should net you enough to upgrade Adams in the middle to an elite premium and upgrade Grundy to one of the others.

      Otherwise I like the structure.
