Rookie Review Round 7

Written by Big Sexy on May 12 2010

My Top Five Rookies (<$200k) of the week:

1)    D Roberton (Def 94k) Freo have done it again with Roberton racking up two solid games to get an average of 68, particularly if you need another cheap rookie on your back line, or time to cash-in on one of your boyz like Silvanvi who missed last week.

2)    N Fyfe (Fwd 186k)  was my number one pick last week and I drafted him into my side…. and for once one of my rookies didn’t let me down with an awesome 90 in his third game…. Hopefully another (younger) ‘Pod’…. Now averaging 89 after 3 which is about as good as it gets. You may have missed the boat already, but if you wait one more week it will have definitely sailed.

3)    B Howlett (Mid 159k) Just played his third game and has been solid for the Bombers and has an average of 68.  If you need to bring in a cheap Mid to cover some losses…. Or maybe wait a week if you can and grab the next bloke on the list Rohan if he steps up next week.

4)    G Rohan (Mid/Fwd 154k) The last of the top 10 draft picks to get a run actually played ok, but didn’t score well with 34 in his first game….. however, I will cut him some slack given his whole team got smashed with Bradshaw scoring 4, and Goodes 27….. 34 looks ok now, and will only get better, and best of all, he will be a very handy DPP to have in the midfield.

5)    L Stevenson (Mid 100k)  Stevenson came back into the side and played pretty well and racked up 68 points for an average of 61.  He should get plenty of opportunity with Kerr out and WC having plenty of midfield injuries…. But if WC keep losing I expect their side to be unsettled.

Tell what you think?  And what Rooks your looking at trading in this week?

  1. Didn’t know where to put this, but all you Mitch Clark owners this one for you.

Voss ruled Mitch Clark (groin) out of Saturday night’s game.

  2. Thinking of jumping on Rohan one week early to stop the bleeding of Hall.
Hall to Rohan.. then Bastinac to Hayes the do the switcharoo with Rohan and Pav. to sit Rohan on the midfield bench..

Rohan’s job security is my only concern… Any thoughts?

Is it a worth while double trade?

  3. I’m thinking I’ll trade Ladson down to Roberton and use the extra cash to upgrade Barry. I’ve been meaning to get rid of Goodwin but he’s pretty much bottomed out, making Hall the more pressing issue.

I should have about $500,000 to use on a premium forward to backup Brown and ROK, they’ve been dissapointing recently.

    1. I think ROK will come good. Not so sure about the big dog, think he’ll carry injuries till the end of season, trade him in for a Pav, a Didak, a Higgins, a Gia or run the risk of getting a new Varcoe 100+ av, low km’s.

  4. Most likely wouldn’t trade any more rookies. I think I have about 8 altogether that are playing games with their clubs. Hopefully, they’ll rise in price in the next 3-4weeks. So i can trade in the premiums

  5. What are people’s thoughts on Jaensch vs Fyfe in terms of money making? I missed Fyfe last week while I was on holiday so I’ve missed his big jump in price (gutting!)… seems if Jaensch stays in, he’s a chance to make as much money, for a smaller initial outlay, but will he stay in the line-up long enough to make him worthwhile?

      1. Hughes is definitely on the radar… it’s a tough week to be trying to make this decision – I really want to stop the bleed of Hall, but having missed the Fyfe bandwagon, it’s tough to know whether to jump on Fyfe or Jaensch this week or even Hughes or give Hughes one more week to prove himself.

        1. I’m giving Hughes a lot of thought, but take a look at Jack Watts, who will probably get an extended crack at it and is only about 140k.
