Essendon vs GWS

A last-gasp win for the Bombers kicked off round 15 on Thursday night, with Cale Hooker being the last term hero. He kicked 2 big goals in the last amongst his 15 touches to boost his score to 93, the same score as Saad and Heppell. Dylan Shiel (112) topped scored for the bombers on the night, courtesy of his 22 touch, 1 goal, 5 tackle game, while big man McKernan also hit the ton due to his 2 goal, 12 touch, 19 hitout game. Other decent scores came from McKenna (92), Langford (99) and Parish (91), while coaches were probably disappointed by the scores of popular midfield picks Merrett (88) and Clarke (63). Bad news from the game came in the form of a calf injury to Bellchambers, while David Zaharakis played game 200.

An unfortunate loss for GWS in their chance for a top 2 spot. Zac Williams (126) topped score for them and the game and is now averaging over 100 on the season after a great game off half-back. 29 touches (21 kicks) with 14 contested touches and 79% DE were the reason he scored so well, while fellow backman Phil Davis also played a great game for 104. On the same score as Davis was gun mid Kelly, while his partner in crime Coniglio had 33 touches (16 contested) for his 102. Scores became spread from there, with only Mumford (99), Tomlinson (98) and Taranto (92) being in the 90’s. Up forward Cameron (77) kicked 3 goals, while Finlayson (82) kicked 2. Jackson Hately (55) finally had his third game which included 13 touches, but who knows what his job security is!

Question from the game: Score review system, what do people think about it?

Supercoach query: How many games will Hateley play?

Geelong vs Adelaide

A battling win for the Cats on Friday night to keep a buffer at the top of the ladder. Tim Kelly once again played a blinder with 33 touches and 2 goals for 128, while fellow midfielder and skipper Joel Selwood (105) had probably his best game of the season with 33 touches. Gryan Miers continued his impressive campaign with a 2 goal, 20 touch game for 110, while Blicavs was solid all night for his 115. Stanley, Clark and Stewart all scored 87, but Stewarts game probably deserved more as he had 26 touches, 11 marks and 88% DE, although his tackle and contested possession count were low. Jed Bews first game back was a huge success, pulling in 8 marks, kicking a goal and having 19 touches for his 96 points. Disappointing scores came from premiums Duncan (86) and Dangerfield (83), although the latter had a significant knock throughout the game. Dahlhaus (88) was good, while up forward Ablett (56) kicked 2 goals.

A valiant effort came from Adelaide but this loss puts their top 4 chances in jeopardy. Rory Sloane topped scored for the game with 129 points, due to his 30 touch (16 contested), 6 tackles and 9 clearances. Reilly O’Brien made it 3 tons on the trot with another huge game of 18 touches, 7 tackles, 39 hitouts and a goal for his 120. Only Matt Crouch (109) also hit the ton for his 30 touch game, while brother Brad (95) also had 27 disposals. Seedsman kicked 2 goals (the latter being an absolute ripper) within his score of 94, but then scores drop. Laird (85), Smith (65) were the Supercoach relevant players who disappointed, while first-gamer Davis (22) didn’t catch the eye too often on debut, but you can’t count him out after just 1 game.

Question from the game: Will this matchup happen come finals time?

Supercoach query: For anyone who has O’Brien at R2, is he now a keeper?

West Coast vs Hawthorn

A last-gasp win for the Eagles on a wet wet day in Melbourne. Luke Shuey was enormous with 39 touches, 9 tackles, 20 contested touches and 11 clearances for his 133, the best score of the day. Fellow mid Redden (128) had 30 touches, while down back Hurn used his 19 touches at 89% for 104. Jack Darling (123) kicked 5 goals on the day to be the dominant forward over fellow big man Kennedy (37), who was blanketed by Frawley. Andrew Gaff racked up 34 touches for his 89, while other good scores went to Sheed (90), Yeo (94), Hickey (93) and hero on the day, Jamie Cripps (94). But the best news for the day for football in general was the successful return of Nic Naitanui (99), who got through the game unscathed and was pivotal in crunch time, finishing with 41 hitouts and 6 touches. An important cog in the West Coast team of Hutchings, finished his day early with a hamstring concern.

Inaccurate kicking (9.17) really cost the Hawks on the day, who had a dominant second half. Jaeger O’Meara did all he could with 37 touches (25 contested), 10 tackles and 12 clearances, which resulted in 115 points. Once Hutchings went down, Jarman Impey  did his thing playing loose across halfback to finish with 21 touches and 117 points, while midfield mates Worpel (92) and Shiels (93) weren’t far off the 100-club. Not too much else Supercoach wise for the Hawks, with Supercoach relevant players in McEvoy (84) and Sicily (83) bringing home “meh” scores. First-gamer Hanrahan (44) kicked a goal and looked good on debut, but wait and see on him.

Question from the game: Do people prefer a slug fest like this, or an open, high scoring game?

Supercoach query: I say this after the return of any player, but Nic Nat for anyone?

Sydney vs Gold Coast

A second boilover at the SCG looked on the cards for the Suns early but they ultimately got overrun. Jarrod Witts (110) did as much as possible with 55 hitouts and 17 touches to dominate the ruck contest, while Anthony Miles (118) reaped the rewards of his ruckman with 21 touches, 10 tackles and 1 goal. Darcy Macpherson had 21 touches and 2 goals for the day to finish on 97, while Will Brodie (90) also had 20 touches to continue his impressive season. No other scores jump off the page and to be honest, not many Suns players are in fantasy teams, but Jake Lukosius (88) had his best game to date with 18 touches and 7 marks.

No Buddy no problem for the Swans as they continue their hot streak. Josh Kennedy led from the front with 27 touches (12 contested), 8 tackles and a goal to lead all scorers for the day on 125. Next best was George Hewett (121) who had 12 tackles to go along with 21 touches, while fellow mid Parker (106) had 31 touches (16 contested) and 11 clearances on the day. Isaac Heeney kicked 2 goals and hauled in 11 marks ( plus 25 touches) for his 117, while Jordan Dawson had 21 kicks in his 28 touches for his 120. Dane Rampe scored 106 to also be in the hundred club, while Mills (97) wasn’t far away. Twin 87’s went to Jones and Reid, while the big Supercoach news on the day was Jake Lloyd (66) receiving a tag and as a result will lose money in the coming weeks. Lastly, ruckman Callum Sinclair had shoulder issues throughout the day and hence, finished up early.

Question from the game: Will Sydney somehow make finals?

Supercoach query: Any takers on Corey Ellis at 233K?

North Melbourne vs Collingwood

North had a massive win in the context of their season and their finals hopes on Saturday night. Ben Cunnington was once again massive in the contest with 37 touches (17 contested), all while using the ball at 86% DE to top score for the night on 146. Ruckman Todd Goldstein was next best with 131, courtesy of using all of his 16 touches to perfection and 30 hitouts, while off halfback Jasper Pittard (125) had his best game of the season with 25 touches and 9 marks. Jack Ziebell could average 115 IMO if he played pure midfield, he had another great game with 25 touches and 3 goals to score 121, while other notable scores went to Simpkin (106), Tarrant (101), Anderson (94) and Polec/Atley (90). First-gamer Kyron Hayden was looking the goods with 5 tackles and 4 touches, but an achilles injury soured his memorable night in the 2nd quarter.

This loss brings the Pies back even with the Eagles on the ladder and an intriguing battle between them looms in Round 17. Despite Goldstein having a great game, Grundy still dominating Supercoach scoring with 133 points, courtesy of 23 touches and 44 hitouts, but he was bettered by Treloar’s (136) 40 touch game. Pendlebury kept his great season going with 33 touches and 111 points, while Darcy Moore (101) had his first hundred of the season for anyone who kept him. Levi Greenwood also hit 100 (106), while Jack Crisp was a solitary point short. Not much else Supercoach wise for the Pies, but worth noting that Reid and Sier had game ending injuries in the first quarter.

Question from the game: Who do people have finishing in the top 4?

Supercoach query: Is Cunnington a must have mid?

Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide

Soaking wet conditions in this game, with the Bulldogs coming out on top for their 6th win of the season. Marcus Bontempelli was a class above, especially in the opening half of the game, finishing with 27 touches (20 kicks), 19 contested touches, 10 tackles and 9 clearances for his 130 points. Fellow midfielders in Macrae (142), Dunkley (111) and Smith (101) all played extraordinary games in the conditions to return great scores for their owners. Scores do drop away rapidly from there though, with only Roarke Smith (99) and Daniel/Crozier (88) finishing over 80 points. Josh Schache kicked 3 goals up forward, while Tory Dickson and Patrick Lipinski kicked 2 apiece.

The loss was a dint in the Powers hopes for the finals, but with 8 games left there’s still plenty of time to solidify a spot. Scott Lycett is thriving in the lead ruck role, once again dominating the game with a huge 42 hitouts, 9 tackles and 21 touches (17 contested) to finish on a huge 165 points. Travis Boak was great again with 32 touches (21 contested) and 10 clearances to score 114, while backline trio Hartlett (130), Byrne-Jones (117) and Jonas (102) all played their part. Tom Clurey (95) is having a great season, but all cash cows in Butters (78), Duursma (57), Drew (51) and Rozee (57) are now not worth having on the field. Third-gamer Garner will make money after his 42, but coaches will be wanting a bit more than that otherwise he’ll only rise 70-80K.

Question from the game: Was Bonts first quarter the best of the season individually?

Supercoach query: Can one justify Lycett as he is equally as likely to score 25 next week as he is another 150+ score?

Richmond vs St Kilda

Richmond came away with a 33 point win in what was a tug of war for two and a half quarters. Dustin Martin continued his form with a big game of 36 touches to score exactly 100, but the highest score of the day went to Mabior Chol and Nick Vlastuin. Both men scored 113, with the former kicking 3 goals, having 16 touches, 9 marks and 7 hitouts in an all around performance, while down back Vlastuin patrolled the halfback line with 11 marks and 26 touches. Sydney Stack kicked 4 goals for his 98, Dion Prestia had 29 touches for his 94, while Astbury used his touches at 90% DE for his 96. Scores drop off from there, but it’s worth noting that Tom Lynch kicked 3 goals in his race for the Coleman medal.

St Kilda were strong in this game but ultimately couldn’t come away with the 4 points. Rowan Marshal was huge on the day, leading all comers with 161 points, due to his 19 touch, 9 mark, 33 hitout game. The only other Saint in triple figures was second-year player Hunter Clark (105), who picked up 23 touches at 87%. Not too much else for the Saints in term of Supercoach scoring, with only Battle (92), Ross (94) and Savage (87) worthy of a mention. Dan Hannebery still found plenty of ball in his second game but his DE let him down to the tune of 65 points, while up forward Josh Bruce kicked 3 to be the Saints best forward.

Question from the game: How far can the Tigers go once they have their stars back?

Supercoach query: Will Mabior Chol keep a spot for long enough to be Supercoach relevant?

Brisbane vs Melbourne

A massive 3rd quarter from Brisbane gave them the win in this game and it was led by Eric Hipwood. 4 goals in the 3rd quarter (5 for the day), amongst 13 touches and 9 marks gave him 115 points on the day, but that was beaten by a number of teammates. Dayne Zorko (155) was everywhere with 3 goals, 31 touches (23 kicks), 5 tackles and 16 contested touches, while fellow midfield buddy Lachie Neale had 38 touches (23 contested) and 12 clearances all at 78% for his 137 points. 115 and 116 went to McLuggage and Martin, with the former dominating after Gawn was restricted for the day, while recruit Lyons had 33 touches and a goal for 130. Daniel Rich continued his great season with 98 points, while Darcy Gardiner scored 89, but scores drop steeply from there, with many players being in the 50-70 range. Noah Answerth (63) wasn’t bad but im assuming not many have him anymore, while the Big O (Oscar McInerney), finished his day early due to concussion.

Melbourne weren’t terrible in this game but couldn’t halt the rampaging Lions in the 2nd half. Christian Salem was the best Demon on the day with 32 touches (25 kicks) for his 133, while the only other Demon in triple figures was Oliver on 103, due to his 36 touches. Viney (99), May (94) and Jones (90) weren’t terrible, while Marty Hore was serviceable on 76. But the biggest Supercoach news on the day was the injury to Max Gawn (46). The big demon had a pretty bad ankle role on the second term but did play out the game, keep an eye on the news throughout the week.

Question from the game: Are Brisbane the most watchable team in the comp when they’re on?

Supercoach query: Who else had McLuggage locked into their 2020 team?

Carlton vs Fremantle

The Blues! Absolutely stole this game late with veteran Marc Murphy slotting home the banana with 30 seconds to go to make it the 3rd tight finish of the round. And speaking of Murphy, he had quite the game himself, picking up 34 touches and 7 clearances to lead the Blues scoring on 125 points. Nic Newman (117) patrolled half-back and seems like he’ll be the new Kade Simpson for years to come with a 25 touch, 7 mark game. Sam Petrevski-Seton and Caleb Marchbank both scored 113, while Ed Curnow had 32 touches (20 contested), plus a crazy 16 clearances for his score of 107. No one in the 90’s for Carlton, but Kreuzer (88), Casboult (87), Thomas (82), Plowman (84) and Walsh (80) were the next best Supercoach scoring wise. Will Setterfield (72) defied all odds to actually score above 70, while Charlie Curnows day finished early with a knee injury.

Fremantle finally felt the hurt of a close loss after all their close wins this season, but aren’t out of the finals race by any means. Nat Fyfe was absolutely superman for them, with 29 touches (16 contested), 8 marks, 7 tackles and a goal to score 147 points! Only Connor Blakely (105) hit the ton apart from Fyfe, due to his 31 touch game, but Hughes (95) and Tucker (97) were close. Many popular Supercoach selections in Walters (81), Mundy (88), Ryan (62), Bewley (41) and Logue (67) disappointed their owners. Up forward Cam McCarthy kicked 4 goals to be a focal point in attack.

Question from the game: Best tight win of the weekend? Blues, Eagles or Bombers?

Supercoach query: Surely Murphy deserves 150+, especially with that late goal?

  1. Mabor Chol will be the discussion point this week. Hard to let a 102k player who has already tonned up slip though the fingers. With so many good players coming back , how does he stay in the side? Maybe down back to fill Rances spot and to have as a Reid type swingman?

    1. He should hold his spot until Jack comes back and then who knows. Richmond won’t want Jack or Lynch rucking so Chol might survive until Nank comes back. And then Soldo probably goes out.

  2. Hindsight … don’t pick KPP but DO pick as many starting rucks that you can fit into your round one team.

  3. saw an interview at half time of Power/Doggies game with Rocky, had 57 touches in the Port 2’s but is now likely to need another week to recover from a sore foot and leather poisoning
