Team Reveal – allsaints

Written by on March 9 2020

Hey all

Usual disclaimers apply on rookies but … here is my pre-Marsh 2 team.  Please tear it to shreds.  Thanks!

DEFs

RYAN and SICILY are my premo picks and have been in my top4 since the end of last season.  Zac WILLIAMS was my D1 but not now.  Hawks off-season trades have served to cement my thoughts on Sicily and feel that Ryan’s intensity fell away post-injury at the end of last season, which to me makes them both slightly ‘underpriced’ going into 2020.  My only concern on Ryan is FRE’s injuries to key lock-down defenders, so am hoping to gain confidence from his showing/role this weekend.  WELLER also features heavily in my thoughts and could become D3 with a bit of tweaking on other lines.

Had HOUSTON for a long while at D3 but with PTA’s Rd11 bye and us having to field a full 22 in SC that week, I’ve ruled him (and Rozee) out.  Roberton should have served his purpose by then SuperCoach-wise, just hope for his sake he stays healthy.  Love him.

MIDs

DUNKLEY and OLIVER are both underpriced in my book.  KELLY is a risky pick but could do anything this year.  If he goes down, he will be BONT in a flash.  CRIPPS or NEALE was my hardest decision and this may yet change before Rd1.  MACRAE is well … MACRAE.

RUCs

R2 was MARSHALL (or LYCETT) until that Rd11 bye reared its ugly head.  Can’t start either now.  So, it’s ROB for me having spoken to his mother-in-law at length the other night.  More determined than ever and with Sauce gone will grasp his opportunity fully in 2020.  Expecting some improvement.  Any, and I’ll be happy.  Can’t trust GAWN at this point, but will be watching for sure.  Again, this could change.  Am hoping Xerri or Cameron are named Rd1 for the R3 spot.

FWDs

What a headache!  WHITFIELD is similar to Kelly and will score massive while fit so figure we can’t afford to start without him.  He is also significantly underpriced if you take out his injury-effected scores from 2019.  If he goes down, he will become Martin, end of.

DAWSON and GREENWOOD could easily become PETRACCA and MACPHERSON.  Not sure yet.  LYNCH is also still in my thoughts.  Not wholly convinced on Devon yet either and the vandenBERG pick scares the bejaysus out of me, but if he can stay fit for just six weeks I think he’ll be a great pick.

I don’t want any forward rookies on the field this year.  While there may be a few who start this year, they just don’t score well enough to be at F6 or higher.

Looking forward to thoughts and feedback community … thanks.

  1. I like it AS. But I would like to now see it post Marsh 2 feel like it could have changed with the news of hill, doch playing so well, ROB being very underwhelming & brayshaw putting a fantastic second performance up with petrappa being quiet…
Like you I’m trying to avoid all forward rooks but easier said than done unfortunately! Greaves & Gould being nice shows hurts also

    1. Thanks for the feedback MAV.

I will do another reveal before Rd1 as it is already unrecognisable from the above.
Definite INs are Doch, Noble and Long
Definite OUTs are ROB, Ash, vandenBerg and Hill.
V likely to go GG now and with other rookies now not playing this week, things are likely to change drastically, to the extent that the above is no longer really worth discussing!
      God help us!

I’ll be picking more ‘underpricers’ than ever before. That much, I am now certain of.

  2. Hey AS, obviously a bit of tinkering to do after this weekend, and rookie selections rd 1 will dictate all of our structures. I guess you’re decision at R2 will factor heavily in the seasons strategy. I was expecting to see Lynch in that fwd line, for me Hill and Vandenberg are red flags, Noble down back must be in for Ash, I’m currently running Dawson and Macpherson at F2/F3 so similar thinking there. I’d like to fit Lipinski in too, is he in you’re calculations at all. Anyway good luck, today could change things up as well. And appreciate all the content you’ve pumped out this yr, you’re passion for the game is why you’re so good at it!!

    1. Thanks DB C. Have made a couple of those changes already and Lynch may yet make the starting line-up, just now think that there maybe enough FWD eligible picks who will get significant MID minutes. Am nowhere near my final 30, but things are definitely becoming a lot clearer this weekend.
We’ll all just have to work with the crumbs provided. Innit?!?
      Thanks again.

  3. I’ve got the Houston/Weller problem.
You sound like you’re to the point you’d take Weller over Houston given Port’s bye?

    1. Am disappointed with Weller’s output given he’s been playing almost pure MID minutes. Was honestly expecting more. May have been scared off Houston unnecessarily by his bye, but we’ll see.
Still not decided. Can you tell?!? 😉

  4. Logical and impressive as usual AS.

Heard a rumour on the “Goss(ip)” line, so don’t tell anyone yet until it can be confirmed, that it has been recommended due to the increasing wear and bounce on the knees and ankles of “talls” that it has been suggested that they all become “Nick Naits”. – Might explain the extra push to get extra rucks………

  5. Hmm…

    Noble for Ash.

I think it is go Gawn or go cheap. I dislike spending so much on a ruck and not having Gawn. If you can get in ROB then you can scrape up enough for Gawn. If not, go to Naismith. If you hate him maybe English. Someone with growth potential; a cow or cow like object. Also, ROB dodgy pre-season, which could be nothing but is just more reason to go up or down from him.

If you bring is Naismith as a cow, you can use the ROB funds to turn a cow somewhere else into a keeper.

Not that you knew this when you wrote this up, but Hill out injured. Anderson out spud-boy. Green on field or not in the team, cause if he plays for GWS he should play for you and if he does not play for GWS you don’t want him at all.

If you don’t have enough to get someone better, and there is nobody with job security cheaper then Vander-risk is thinkable.

    How much cash left over?

    1. Noble Ash – tick
      Gawn – tick
      Hill and Anderson- both gone
Green or Hately – one of those two please
vanderRisk – asterisk! Bruised foot only, but he could become Sparrow if he goes down as he is likely to fill that similar role.
BEDFORD looked quite good but has he done enough?!
      Thanks FD

  6. Nice looking side as…be interesting to see how it changes pre r1. I’m with you on VDB. Think with the r11/12 bye conundrum there is plenty of time to (hopefully) upgrade Roberton, and Houston can hopefully swing into the mids for the r11 week. He’ll be handy to have for the three main bye weeks.
Mid premos can come form a squad of 10-12 so no point challenging any selections there. The rookies are the worry, as they are for everyone.
Surprised no Gawn…not starting him surely means you think he will fall by a big amount…if not, it will take two trades later…big discussions on GG here at SCT…just like last year. I’m happy with Gawn’s 70 odd from half a game Marsh 2.
Agree on fwds headache. Whit starts cause he can be downgraded to anyone in a disaster. I have switched between Walters, Petracca, and Dusty for f2, finally settling n Dusty…he looks awesome.
Just about to post my latest team…please be kind.

    Cheers.

        1. Early email from a senior citizen who maybe has/is taking up golf but won’t let it interfere with SuperCoach? LOL

    1. Spot on mate. Don’t mind the Dusty pick. He does look in good nick but still can’t justify two FWD premos with so much value on that line. Given the rookie cupboard is so bare, I can only afford one to go deep to F6, and I like Whitfield more. If you can afford both without having any spuds onfield than I say, go for it.
Gawn now back in for me and already feel more relaxed. What was I thinking?!? 😉

  7. Noble for Ash….I too have VDB as F4. No love for Toby the Toole at F2? Buckley has confirmed that Cox will play Rd1 and that CAMERON still has things to work on forward of the ball. At least we get a chance to see him for a couple of weeks when he does eventually get a game. Good luck….M.

  8. What a difference a day makes, in preseason when there are no consequences for trades that you wouldn’t think of during the season.

On the whole the team still stands up as well as any team can until round 1 teams are named.

What we can see is the rookies keep getting thinner and thinner, as coaches signal their real round 1 starters with more normal sized benches.

Greaves looks out, based on his minimal time, as do Rivers (nil time), Williams and Hill (injury), Anderson (lack of impact).

Georgiades and Buderick are maybes, just maybes. Xerri, Gould haven’t played yet, and all need a decent showing to convice they are a chance for a run from say rounds 1-5. Both have to be bench only options with a certain starting lineup. Getting one week then being shuffled back to the 2’s for a month won’t help.

Ash and Green look likely sorts but the problem is that GWS have slightly higher priced players with more time in the system who completely outperformed them this week in Cumming and Hately. I think Ash will still get a round 1 run, but get your plan B ready, just in case.

Not sold on Jacobs, but looks “safer” than Naismith, but there is that risk of a Return of the Mummy. Deven Roberton and John Noble have to come into serious consideration. Still liking the look of Crocker and Ben Davis, Jack Madgen, yet only got Davis at the moment.

Tobe Watson would be stiff not to get a go with Freo’s injuries,as he’s done nothing wrong in the preseason. Pittonet should be getting a run before De Konig and Darcy Cameron before Cox. Sometimes the coaches are a mystery.

Seriously considering a punt on Charlie Cameron, and Darcy McPherson in the forwards. but Charlie seems to do this every preseason then not live up to the hype.

Dawson, Greenwood, Smith and Vandenberg all look like solid midprice money makers to me. If that’s what we need to do to survive the great rookie drought of 2020 I think you’re on a winner.

    1. Cheers mate. Agreed on the great Rookie Drought of 2020. Really like the MacPherson pick but won’t go near Charlie CAMERON. Excitement machine for sure, but can’t help feeling he’s a trap, whereas MacP gets up the ground a lot more.
Watson surely starts. I now have him, Robertson and Crocker pencilled in. Haven’t really seen Ben Davis and is Madgen best 22?! Hope so.
Cannot believe Cox is ahead of Cameron. Seems crass to me.
Good luck HH and appreciate the thoughts.

  9. I too was big on Vandenberg until Marsh Two, AS. Very fragile, came off with bruising at HT. Don’t think I have the guts to start him anymore.

Also, I like the Anderson pick. Underwhelming in both Marsh games and probably won’t score well, but has good job security. I’ll take it.

  10. Chuck in Cumming(gws)

Looking at Doc, Roberton, Cumming, Noble, bzerk and rookie for my defencive 6
IF the rookies are that bad once teams drop.
But I’m really really trying to push the 8 mids still.

    1. Haha TOF. I’m thinking of reducing MID-premos to only 4 now to fill the vast holes thanks to rookie dearth on all lines.
      Good luck!

      1. Reading your team AS showed me how much has changed over marsh Series with rooks that looked in going missing .
T Green and Ash would get regular games at other clubs but not at GWS
I would still stick with minimum 5 premiums in mids as they generate most points per line besides Rucks and lack of depth of mid rooks.
        Good luck for 2020

  11. Thanks everyone for the extremely helpful feedback. Have made a few significant changes as a result, so much appreciated.

    Good luck all in 2020.

  12. Hi AS. I love the team and the rationale of selection.
You said you may go Gawn and I think you should. Less headache.
Also 4 premium mids does make sense. I am also thinkering with the idea of going one less (4 instead of 5) to beef up the FWD and Def lines with second year cheapies since starting rookies are being problematic.

  13. This team is a great example of why rookies are important in the Guns and Rookies structure.

Two weeks ago, my side was very similar to this, even down to ROB in R2.

    Now…

  14. Hey AS,
Really like the team, just wondering if you could shed more light on this RD11 bye? Heard very little about it and the AFL are yet to update their fixture. Appreciate any clarification.
    Cheers!

    1. St Kilda vs Port will now have their bye in Rd11 meaning there are only 4 teams having their bye in Rd12 now.

Supercoach won’t update the rules for Rd11 and it will still be best 22, unlike 12-14 which are best 18.
